Diffusely adherent E. coli
Adherence mechanism of DAEC -a)DAEC attaches to the host epithelial cells by Afa/Dr adhesions b)adhesion molecules internalize the DAEC c) DAF cells provide a niche for DAEC replication[1]
SpecialtyInfectious disease

Diffusely adherent Escherichia coli (DAEC) is a diarrheagenic E. coli pathogroup. It harbors genes encoding for Afa/Dr adhesins, which can cause diarrhea illness in individuals.[2]

DAEC strains attach to brush borders of epithelial cells, it then rearranges the cytoskeletal structures of microvilli .In terms of internalization it is mediated via microtubules. After several further cell processes ,PMN crosses epithelium barrier which provokes the creation of TNF-α and IL-1β which in turn regulate DAF, hence energizing bacterial replication.[1][3]
