- Might be using too much abbreviations, I was talking about when you change the subject of the medicine collaboration of the month. We might consider a separate banner for the current article's talk page, it is barely visible when the template is collapsed with all other wikiproject templates. My second suggestion was also to give the collaboration some more visibility: many more people visit WP:MED on a regular basis than the collaboration's page. --WS (talk) 23:54, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I know MCOTW changed to MCOTM but I thought no one bothered to change the syntex so I kept it the way it already was. I will try to whip up a template that will be separate from that. Also I am well aware of the visibility issue and a lack of members. To counteract this issue I am going to NYC's Wikipedia 10th birthday bash and spam our project which will expose 165'ish highly active users to what we do and why we matter. I also am working on getting a IRC channel for the collaboration so we can collaborate in real time and have a sort of "recruitment center." Thanks! Peter.C • talk 00:09, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Archive box
Would you be able to check this diff - here - to see whether I put in the Archive feature correcly? Much appreciated, Lord Roem (talk) 07:25, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is pretty much correct except for the date, three days is WAY to much, I would change it to seven. Also, I would change the archive to Archive/%(year)d/%(monthnameshort)s to keep it organized. In addition add {{archive box|[[User talk:Lore Roem/Archive/Info|Index of archives]]}} so you can have it nice and organized when you need it. Lastly I would add the warning template to your talk page ({{AutoArchivingNotice|bot=MiszaBot III|small=yes|dounreplied=yes|target=User talk:Lord Roem/Archive/{{CURRENTYEAR}}/{{CURRENTMONTHABBREV}}}}) so people will know that old discussions get archived. Hi Peter, the bot just linked your Abbreviated Injury Scale lemma to my German one de:Abbreviated Injury Scale. There are a couple of points I would like you to take into account:
- Be very careful of what you write, the AAAM is very peculitar about its copyright of the scale.
- Be very careful as to the usage of secondary sources with regard to the AIS: There are AIS Codebooks which state the coding principles. Consider these codebooks the law everybody who thinks AIS coding has to adhere to - no exceptions.
- Earlier than later you will come into contact with 'the coding branch of the AAAM' namely Elaine Wodzin. Be nice to her, it is her coordination work that resulted in the AIS as we know it today. She is most concerned about worng coding standards and people using the AIS without any idea what it is supposed to be.
- Read the German Wikipedia entry (for example by use of the Google translator) and you'll get a better idea of what the AIS really is: A mortality scale for single injuries.
I know why I did not translate my German AIS lemma into English...

Hey Peter this user is the author of some of the best known reviews and textbook on anaerobic infections. Thus you will notice he has extensively referenced his own work which is okay. Referencing his blog of course is not. What he adds may appear like copyright infringement but isn't. Maybe re-factor you comments a bit... Hi Peter.C. I'm sure you'll see what I have done from the page history, and the comments I made on User_talk:Kellystick#Bupenda Meitei. I did indeed reinstate the edit with the 'orphan' tag, here, because the edit included lots of good stuff - and the tag was, really, appropriate (with only 2 incoming links). However, once I started checking refs, etc, I quickly realised that the 'orphan' issue was the very least of the problems - so I tagged, and dealt with, the more pressing concerns of verifiability. Note, I've also posted to BLPN asking for further help. The user did also post this on my talk, and this on the article talk - so I'm guessing you know what this is about. Marking articles students are working on
Howdy, Online Ambassador!
This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students and make sure these things are taken care of (especially for classes that aren't working with mentors):
- Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
- If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
- Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.
And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Ambassador Program: assessment drive
Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.
In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.
Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

Hi Peter.
I have made a number of changes to your new article as there were some inaccurate statements therein:
- stab wounds can be caused by any sharp object, not just knives
- direct pressure on a bleeding wound may be required in addition to the interventions you detailed
- the majority of stab wounds do not require surgical intervention, but can be treated in the emergency department
The need to explore stab wounds in the emergency department is controversial in the UK, but I have left this in the text as it is sourced. I suspect that the articles you have read are biased towards the more serious abdominal injuries, while the reality is that many stab wounds are minor. Hopefully as the article is expanded more references about different types of injury will balance this out.

- The first mistake was my fault, I was using the first definition of "stab" from Taber's, but I decided after your edits to clarify that it is a wound caused by a knife or a similar pointed object. With regards to pressure on the wound, I was going to add that later as I am still refining sources, and they made no mention of that. I also based the statement that most stab wounds require OR intervention based on "Emergency! Stab wound." PMID which in the "how to intervene" section only seems to mention taking the patient to the OR. Kubla Khan and Xandadu
Dear Peter, Can you please explain why you deleted the section about the historical Xanadu that I added to the article on Kubla Khan? A previous version had been deleted, stating that it was original research. I rewrote the section with verifiable references to the UNESCO website, the Marco Polo texts in Wikisource, and a published biography of Kubla Khan, but it was deleted. I think it's important for readers of an article on this poem to know that Xanadu was an historic place; it's very well documented, but nowhere mentioned in the article. - Most of the material you attempted to introduce was either redundant or direclty contradicted already sourced information in the text.Your statements about Marco Polo are wrong according to the background section. Instead, Coleridge used another source. Additionally, your statements about Mongolia, a nation that did not exist at the time, are contradicted by sources on Coleridge as demonstrated in this section on Tartars. As the 19th century knew it, and as we still follow, Tartar was the name for the ethnicity of Kublai Khan and his subjects. Also, the Mongl tribes do not discuss race, just as Germanic tribes only describe loose configuration and are made of multiple nationalities. Furthermore, Kublai Khan created the Chinese Yuan Dynasty and his people were seen as from China, especially with consideration to that being the location of the city. Finally, the material you submitted lacked sourcing from Coleridge related sources and were primarily original source based. Tatar confederation and Tatars explain how the ethnicity is connected to the Mongolian empire and why the term was used by most critics to discuss the ethnicity of Kublai Khan. Have a good day. Hi Peter.C, I am a Wikipedian and researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, working with Professors Robert E. Kraut and Aniket Kittur. We’ve published many scholarly papers on Wikipedia and are partnering with the Wikimedia Foundation on several new projects.
I have been analyzing collaboration in Wikipedia, especially Collaborations of the Week/Month. My analysis of seven years of archival Wikipedia data shows that Collaborations of the Week/Month substantially increase the amount and nature of project members’ contributions, with long lasting effects. We would like to talk to Wikipedians to better understand the processes that that produce this behavior change.
We’ve identified you as a particularly good candidate to speak with because of your involvement with the WikiProject Medicine' Collaborations, which is one of those we’ve been investigating. It would really help us if you would be willing to have a short talk with us, less than 30 minutes of your time. We can talk via skype or instant messenger or other means if you’d prefer. Student assessment
Thanks for taking on some of this work. Please have a look at my notes on the page. It has taken me many hours to just do 50 students so I don't have the strength and time to do them all. The stats so far are not encouraging wrt the cost/benefit of the assignment. Perhaps the later students are better? BTW: I queried one of your copyvio reverts and have restored the text (this). Perhaps you can clarify where the copyvio was from -- beware of WP mirrors and sites that take WP content. I'm off to bed. -- Colin°Talk 23:43, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for adding all those students to the list. I'm afraid I still don't understand your numbering, which ranges from 0 to 11. For my own numbers, I wasn't really using a scale, more just numbers for grouping. 1 and 2 for two grades of good edit, 3 for no edit, 4 and 5 for two grades of bad edit (with 5 being a copyvio). For the articles the students edited, I put the best article's edits into the Best column and similarly for the worst. If they only edited one article then I just repeated the score. This let me allocate the "editors who did bad" as those with a 4 or 5 in the Worst column and "editors who did good" (which overlaps) as those with a 1 or 2 in the Best column. I don't think you need to align your scoring with mine, but I would like to understand it. Perhaps you can also give your thoughts on the students, the assignment, etc. In my latest summary I mentioned that I had seen no students doing X, Y or Z things we might want them to do. - I thought we were supposed to simply write how many "good" edits a student had vs "bad" edits. I guess you can assign a point value of 1 to a good edit and a score of -2 to a bad one and draw your conclusions as to how a student did. With regards to writing thoughts on what I have seen so far, I will I will write up some initial conclusions when I get home from work later and then draw final conclusions later on.
