I won't defend the over-the-top rhetoric, but I will defend the person when other editors treat SPI and ANI like a playground fight for settling scores. There was plenty of blame to go around. I don't know whether he intends to return to editing or not, but the Wikipedia community really has to find better ways to make use of skilled contributors without eating our own (or becoming even more dysfunctional than we already in terms of civility and collaboration). Sorry but you are wrong. Goodreads only publishes reviews on thousands of books, many of them exist on Wikipedia. They got the cover photo from me and the text (reviews) from many readers. Their copyrights cover their logo and format that have nothing to do with what I wrote. Why you are doing that...? Given the extent of the problem, I think an SPI would allow for visibility. As it stands, you appear to be fighting this issue on your own. Hi WikiDan61 (and pinging 220 of Borg). I see your point. However, it is not much of a "fight". The thing is, after encountering such a spam page, we usually do a search to see if there are more. You want the SPI to come up in that search so others get clued in, right? But the search will also find a string of blocked accounts. Clicking one of those will link to the master's page. Everyone is clued in.
So, because this guy isn't devious, but rather just spamming, why not do what is working: regular searches. But, if you wish to file, fine. But why burden SPI with one more case? No CUs needed. Samwalton9 made an edit filter for one persistent case. It detected. I blocked. Then, Sam changed it to prevent pages created with keywords. That was the end of that. :) So yes, if it persists, let's consider and edit filter. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:25, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

The OTRS red tape

Hello Anna, your project prompted me to try and see whether I could gather some pictures for articles by asking the luminaries themselves, so I started with one who is currently the rage among my friends. Their article has been viewed 3785 times in the last 90 days. (While that is below the threshold you set for your initiative, the purpose of that threshold was to give the artist an incentive by showing them that their portraits will be seen by many people.) You certainly will agree that there is considerable benefit for Wikipedia in adding a picture to such an article.

I firmly believe we should respect everybody who freely contributes to Wikipedia. In addition, there is the old proverb "beggars can't be choosers", which encourages to be even more considerate when I cold call someone to get something for free that we can't otherwise afford.

So my expectations were:

  • A smooth process on the Wikipedia side of this business. I thought that there would be some organizational experience available here how to do this in an efficient way that respects the luminary's time and willingness to help out;
  • Some rough edges and disappointments on the luminary's side. They might not answer, or answer too late (after the picture has already been deleted), or some such problems.

To my utter surprise, the experience proved the opposite. The luminary was very kind and open, while I an inordinate amount of problems reared their ugly face on the part of Wikipedia, costing me far more time than I had budgeted for this, and threatening to cost the luminary even more time and legal trouble. Obviously, Wikipedia does not have an appropriate process in place. It is a bait-and-switch tactic to first only ask the questions, only to later come with additional questions that we knew we would have to ask all along. Such a process is inefficient and disrespectful of the people who we are begging from.

I am tempted to get engaged in improving this process. But I already overspent my time budget on this. I'm now in a place where both pushing forward and backpaddling will take time, and I have other more urgent and important things to do. I will prescribe myself a Wikbreak for at least 48 hours now. I may look at this over the weekend, but don't hold your breath for it. I just felt I had to tell you this, because I know you care about this.

Hi Sebastian. I am so pleased you take the time to write to them. It is worth it. And I'm sorry to hear that you had some bad experiences this end. Maybe a process is needed that doesn't bite anyone.
Search "Dear" here. I've used that dozens of times with a really good return ratio. They either send the pics to me, or I tell them how to do it. My latest attempt failed, though. I so wanted badly needed pics of Koko (gorilla) and All Ball from The Gorilla Foundation. My email changed and it cut off communications. I dare not email again...but I might. Maybe fair use? Anyhow, here is a handful of articles that had no image until emails prompted someone on their end to kindly act:

By the way, this fellow has broken all records for unblock requests. I think there are even more in his talk history. I appealed to him asking him to stop. I got him mixed up with a similar case I've been involved with: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Najaf ali bhayo. If I didn't get him mixed up, I wouldn't have appealed to him because he's very IDHT. However,it may be working for now because he's requesting unblocks rather than socking at articles. That suggests that Simpleabd may not be the oldest account. It was created about 12 hours after Trymankind was blocked, and that account was blocked following socking by Idkmankind123. Could you please make it a redirect to Template:Db-spam-notice, per the "merge" consensus established at the TfD discussion, and downgrade its protection to semi, per the instructions at WP:TFD/AI, which state that if one of the pages in a merge becomes a redirect, its protection level should be matched with that of the target? You were probably looking at a relist. If you notice, the shorter version has an older log date and an outcome of "relisted". And yes, I did WP:IAR and WP:BOLD on that one since the outcome was relatively unambiguous, and it's usually bad practice to relist more than three times. Gparyani (talk) 02:03, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Just FYI, there was general agreement here that it's best to avoid closing your own nominations even at TfD. Most discussions are closed fairly late, but if there's a good reason a particular one should jump the queue you can post at WT:TFD to ask people to take a look. Hi there, Ms. Frodesiak. I understand you sent me a message that says you were wondering why I have been removing red links. I have been removing red links because they are pointless because if someone were to click a word with a red link, it would directly lead to a page with no article, and I find that really pointless. 5 millionth article

Hey Anna! I started a table over at WP:RDMA§5 millionth article§§Daily growth rate table that I will keep updated based on my daily observations at 20:42 UTC (and I'll ask Steve not to archive that page until we roll over), but I will be traveling tomorrow and may not be able to make that observation.

Wherever in the world you are, is that a time of day you could make the observation tomorrow (Wednesday)?

You probably know more ways to do this than I do, but one option would be to just check Special:Statistics at that time tomorrow, and then copy the article count here. Another would be to edit this section and check the preview (to overcome any server caching) of

{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} articles @ {{CURRENTDATE}}
6,818,439 articles @ 14:55, Monday, April 29, 2024 (UTC)

at the right time and copy the results. And finally, you could subst those templates

Also, I really thought that your Saturday, 31 November 18:01 UTC bet was a good one when you made it yesterday, what with the 624 & 635 article-per-day rates from the weekend being followed by Monday's 707, but I'm surprised by today's 613. I doubt that we are seeing any activity related to the rollover yet, though I do assume that a good handful of Wikipedian's have written and polished some articles which they will try to submit as the time draws neigh in an attempt to land article number 5,000,000, but I suspect that we won't start seeing them until shortly before the rollover happens, and that we will jump from just under 5,000,000 to over 5,000,100 or more in only a minute's time. -- ToE 02:14, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

If the 5 millionth article is defined as the one which was created when there are 4,999,999 articles already in place, then with your scenario there could be multiple such articles. The significant one could be considered either the first one which rolled us over to 5 million or the last one which rolled us over and kept us there. Wikipedia:Millionth article FAQ#Is Jordanhill railway station really the millionth title ever written in Wikipedia? goes with the former definition: This was the first article to be created at a time when there were already 999,999 articles in the encyclopedia.
What I'd be more concerned about is if the first, and perhaps only, 5 millionth article is crap and is subsequently deleted. We'd still be over 5 million articles, but no existing article would hold the honor of taking us around that bend. Wikipedia:Millionth article FAQ doesn't address that, and its list seems to imply that such a deletion has not happened for the last four n-millionth articles.
If a last minute burst of quality articles really are submitted, as I anticipated above, then that is less likely to be a problem, but it is equally possible that Jeph Jacques and David Willis have a stable of auto-confirmed socks ready to turn out hundreds of articles on a variation of Butts disease when the rollover becomes eminent. -- ToE 01:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

I know about Special:NewPagesFeed, but do you know how to find out what the article count was when any particular article was created. In other words, is there a Special page we can view to determine which the 5,000,000th article is, or will that be reported by the system operators using internal tools? For instance, I can run a script logging the article count once a second and see that it just went from 4997479 to 4997480 at 01:28:46 UTC, and then see Samuel Gomes da Silva on the New Page Feed showing that it was created at the same time, so that makes it a 4,997,480th article (though in this case not the first 4,997,480th article, as there had been a deletion only thirty-some seconds earlier), but is there a way to tell this without that level of monitoring? And even with that monitoring, it could be messy to sort out manually if there is a rush of near-simultaneous article creations & deletions. -- ToE 02:05, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

@Thinking of England: I don't know of any such thing. The only reason I'm afraid is that there is a backlog of articles waiting to be deleted at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and sometimes there is a long delay between my tagging articles for deletion (as a new-page patroller) and their being deleted, such as Ricky Singleton. Anna, I'd left you a ping there but in case you didn't notice or it didn't come through, I'd like your opinion on the situation. This is now getting beyond just standard copyvios as File:Uththaraunnie.png shows -- it goes beyond just claiming own work, it's manipulation of the original image to an extent that reverse image search will not work, I was fortunate to find the original in this case (there were a few others where either Stefan2 or I found the sources too). He doesn't seem to accept the fact that this and others are copyvios and still claiming credit for them. You are very, very kind, SpacemanSpiff. The (unapologetic) block evasion and carrying on doing exactly what the first block was for really pushes toward the indef line. Now, standing firm with obviously fishy and changing stories? The urge to block is there, but maybe we should go preventative and think of the project first by simply prohibiting uploads, period. Put our foot down. I think he thinks we're bargaining and doesn't see the gravity. Then we do a decent text copyvio (I did a cursory one a few days ago and it came up clean.). Another advantage of not blocking is that he remains near, but we could watchlist where necessary and keep our eyes open. If you still wish to block, that would not be unreasonable, though. I agree on the text stuff, I had checked for copyvios there, but didn't find any; there could be translation copyvios (as a lot of sourcing is from Malayalam language resources) but I think it's a low probability. On a different note, could you please take a look at User talk:Aryan hindustan#User page -- a child editor who has been uploading self-images on Commons and placing them here and could use some guidance. There's nothing yet that I'd revdelete or send to oversight (the images are on Commons, and there's a deletion request there), but the possibility of getting to that stage is likely and someone better equipped to deal with children than I am should provide some sort of guidance. —SpacemanSpiff 04:20, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi, SpacemanSpiff. Hmmmm tricky. Most likely the images are of the user. But, the photos do not actually say it is him. The user could be the father taking a pic of his kid. Is there evidence I'm missing? So, if the pics at commons showing the boy are deleted, fine. If not, the pics become a commons problem and we could consider deleting (possibly suppressing) his userpage and restoring a version with no boy images. Am I on the right track in my thinking here? I didn't think of this earlier and connected the dots only after being alerted to the pictures -- the language used is definitely at a pre-teen level. The MySpacey stuff didn't show up earlier and it's sort of gradual progression so I'm guessing he's experimenting with stuff and getting more "comfortable" with all this and we're likely to get to some stage where he's adding oversight worthy material (these images are likely to be deleted on Commons, so it's not an immediate problem). I think some sort of a "don't do this" stuff would help, but I can't seem to find any category or whatever for editors willing to deal with this kind of stuff. Seems to be a kid who is interested in contributing and appears willing to take feedback (see the responses to talk page warnings and notifications), so someone who has the ability and patience to provide such guidance would be helpful (do this, don't do that kind of stuff). cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 04:45, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

IP disruptively editing Tanki Online, then creates and account and vandalises my user and talk pages

Hey Anna, I just had to revert an edit on Tanki Online by an IP which appears to be Vandalism only. The IP had only one edit but tried to change the page to the United States presidential gangrape or something like that. I reverted it as a result, and i gave it a final warning, despite the fact he has made one edit, because of the way he vandalised this page. Should i have given this type of warning? As you are an Admin, can you please look into this and take action if necessary? And as i type this, he/she goes and reverts my edit.. Hello Anna, it's been a couple of years. You probably don't recognize me due to my username, but originally I was known as Keeby101 (I changed that username for a reason lol). Anyway, I just came by to say that I thank you for helping me in the past with my rhetoric and overall way of making contributions on Wikipedia. I later down the line took your advice to the fullest extent and gained major ground in this community. For that I thank you! It is most likely the case with Administrators. You see, from the other side of the spectrum it's rather a different case and what happens on the other side does not have to necessarily happen to me, but with others around here.

Yes, I did have a lot of screw ups and had a few bumps on the road early on as a Wikipedia editor. I later got help from Administrators and Bureaucrat's on here such as you and ·addshore· (who is a Bureaucrat on here) and who helped me become a good Wikipedia editor and allowed me to contribute to this site properly later down the line. :)

However unlike you, ·addshore· and others on this site who tried and still try to help me and others new to Wikipedia, some administrators like Fut.Perf. and Wikipedia editors with heavy nationalist bias when it comes to ancient empires (From Mesopotamia, Persia, India, China, etc) or even ones that are just plain stubborn such as the ones I have come across in the Paleontology section of Wikipedia (Mostly with the Dinosaurs and Megafuana) , they rather try to work with new editors around here or even some that have been around here for a long time such as SimpsonDG, they are openly hostile and have tried and still to an extent try to shut them down.


I have seen this happen with many users on here, I can't mention their usernames because I forgot them (hard to keep track of them all) and these stubborn and hostile editors when it comes to shutting down new ideas or contributions (may they be small or major) have been successful in many cases.

In the case of SimpsonDG case, he has dealt with users and admins such as Fut.Perf. in the past and even got into an argument with Future Perfect and explained his reason for why he left:

With that being said, I have dealt with the same hostility in the past and to some extent in the present, which is why I am leaving. You and the others that I honorably mentioned within the last topic of my talk page are saints in my eyes. :)

Need Help!

Hey Anna I need your help again. Basically, if you haven't seen my user page, i am a bus enthusiast (a person who likes buses). Recently on Talk:List of bus routes in London, someone started a debate on this source(http://www.lots.org.uk) that has been on List of bus routes in London since 2009, claiming that the source is "copyright". I explained to the user that it only covers publications by the company, and if they didn't want us to look at the "News" page, they'd restrict it to members only. Now, you may not understand this part (i'll try and explain as best as i can), but news was published on the "news" area of the web site that the people who run London Buses, Transport for London. had awarded some route contracts to different operators. As i am a member of WikiProject Buses I like to keep the article up to date, and put under the route that the route will change operators in July 2016, for example, but another person said that it is "industry gossip" and he also said that "recentism" is not needed on this page. Other users have also done what I've done and put under the route that it will change operator, but it keeps getting reverted by this person. From my point of view, I consider the source as reliable, because the same thing is announced on Bus Blogs and Forums, and everything that is mentioned on this website actually happens, and i think that someone who works for London Buses puts the info on the news page I have tried to explain my point on the talk page for this page, but what can i do now. Can you please decide if this source is reliable or not, and put the discussion to bed? And if the source was copyright, wouldn't it have been taken out by a bot? Hey again Anna, I just wanted to tell you about this. Just recently. I edited London Buses route 78, and it got reverted by the person who is one of the people discussing this matter on the talk page for being unsourced, which was fair enough because i did forget to add a source, but i left him a warning to tell him that next time, he could just find a source and add it which is co-operating, rather than reverting. i had to add the source. He reverted the warning on the page, called my warning "tendentious" and threatened to take me to the Admins if i left him another warning on the edit summary. The user I'm talking about can be found in my contributions. Sorry I'm leaving so many messages on your page, but because you are a kind and helpful person, whenever i have a problem on WP (be it in General, or with another user), i come to you, because as you are an admin, you can give me advice on things, but i wanted to let you know of this. Should i email you in future in case of any issues

You raise a lot of issues, so my response in point form::
  • I cannot visit http://www.lots.org.uk/. It is blocked here in China. If it is a blog, that is the reason.
  • You are discussing things at the article talk, and at least two others are there engaging you. That is good. My role at my talk page here should be to advise you on policy and guidelines. I cannot takes sides. If there is unfairness or disruption at the article talk, I can take a look.
  • Please read WP:RS.
  • Complete lists of factual data are generally not considered copyrighted. See WP:TOP100 for further information.
  • I am not clear on your meaning here: "...only covers publications by the company..."
  • Matters about "industry gossip" and "recentism" are content disputes. That should be discussed at the article talk.
  • Blogs and forums are not reliable sources.
  • To find out what sources are reliable, you can post at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard
  • I don't think bots remove copyvio content. They can spot it, though, but maybe not lists. I am not sure about that. I think they generally look for blocks of text that appear at other sites, regardless of the copyright status at that site.
  • Please avoid remarks like "...appears to be here to revert stuff..." as that can be seen as offensive or an attack. Try to talk about an editor's edits, not the editor personally.
  • Regarding "tendentious", please read Wikipedia:Tendentious editing.
  • Please, no email, unless it is a very important private matter.
  • The bottom line: Listen to the community. When two people disagree, it is sometimes hard to know who is right. When a handful disagree with a single person, they are likely right. And if most people agree on one point of view, consider that WP:ROUGH CONSENSUS.
  • Be patient, as you are being, which is great.

Don't worry about the attack. It was relatively tiny. You are a patient, civil, and measured editor. That is much respected around here.
Why is LOTS blocked? Because the powers that be here act in strange ways. Recipe sites are often blocked, but not 4chan. Things get blocked then unblocked. It is hard to explain.

Hi Class455fan1. I meant that text or creative writing is copyrighted. We cannot copy paste it. However, a list may be something we can copy paste. Again, see WP:TOP100.
You may be confusing "reliable source" with "copyvighted". Please see WP:RS and WP:COPYVIO.
I suggest you post at the talk page with WP:TOP100. Ask others to evaluate the list and see if it is copyrighted. They may say it is not, and can be copy pasted, but still object to the list being in the article for other reasons. (UK series 15)) needs semi-protection because the lineup for this show hasn't been confirmed officially yet by the TV company ITV, who makes the programme and IP's are continually adding unconfirmed Celebrities without providing any source. Can you please semi-protect this until the show starts on Sunday at 21:00 British time? (Don't know what time that is in China, but i think we are 8 hours behind you) I decided to come to you instead of submitting an protection request otherwise it would've been fully protected so that only admins can edit it, like what happened when i submitted a semi-protection request for Emirates fleet. Hello Class455fan1. The action I took: "...protected I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (UK series 15) [Edit=Allow only autoconfirmed users] (expires 22:00, 15 November 2015) (Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content)..." I hope that is okay. I think UTC is the same as England, although I'm horrible with figuring out time. I set it to 1 hr after the show begins. That way there can be no mistake about who was on it. Let me know if I have the time wrong.
Don't be nervous about filing at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. They evaluate it the same as I do. They probably protected the airline due to a huge editing dispute where it was hard to figure out who is right. In those cases, admins don't want to pick sides. they just revert to the last stable version, and freeze it in place until those involved can come to an agreement. In the celebrity article, is was a garden-variety case of IPs adding unsourced content.

Question

Hi, Anna. Quick question for you: I generally edit from one of two IPs here, one from home and the other from mobile. My long term home provider shutdown on the sixth of November. I'm curious, what if those IPs are assigned in the near future to someone who vandalizes or socks? I don't want to be accused of anything. I had used those IPs for a long time until last week. Viriditas, I wouldn't concern myself with this too much. If your provider changed, there would be a hard date where your home IP changed. Generally a CheckUser isn't run on IPs just for garden variety vandalism, the IP is just blocked. If socking occurred, it may show you as having edited from that IP address, and if it came up in an SPI, you would have a pretty easy time explaining that (as you did here). Having said that, I think the chances of it being assigned to someone who is going to sock prior to the CheckUser data going stale is pretty slim. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:46, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

While a copyvio check with the new version didn't find a match, I am not convinced this isn't just another copyvio (otherwise the creator wrote and formatted the complete article in 20 minutes, according to edit history). I am not sure if this is a speedy or should better go through another formal AfD, but you probably know a little more background details of this article. Could you have a second look at the situation please? Even if it's not a copyvio, it's blatant self-promotion based on self-published information. Best regards. RfA poll

Hi, Anna: to be honest, I'm not yet convinced that the focus on a bare number is a good idea. It seems to encourage a more superficial look at a candidate's qualities, potentially setting them up for a disappointment when actually going through the request for adminship process. That being said, I like seeing new things being tried. I think we should do more of this: try something low-cost, and if it doesn't work out, we can try something else. (Unfortunately, the system already seems to have failed to deter one problematic candidate, but maybe it will draw in some hopeful candidates in the near future.) isaacl (talk) 03:37, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

You may be right, isaacl. A change may be needed. You mention Supdiop, but he does not fit the normal pattern. Also, we cannot tell if this is preventing SNOWs. Long-term stats may reveal this and other effects, like putting the idea into the heads of those who would otherwise not have considered adminship. Supdiop has other problems, not just his/her frequent attempts at RfAs that will never pass. I still firmly believe that users with the right level of maturity will have gotten over any cognitive dissonance and should be able to do some accurate self analysis after reading WP:RFAADVICE. The graph we compiled several months ago showed that SNOWS/NOTNOW have decreased in the exact same proportions as RfA overall and successful passes - meaning that the the three descending lines on the chart have been almost exactly parallel for several years. So nonsense attempts at RfA are not strictly an issue needing a lot of focus, while the waning interest in adminship in general is the greater problem. If you want to get candidates of the right calibre to apply, you need to potty train the voters. I agree the utility of the RfA poll remains to be seen; it may serve to encourage good candidates to run. I also agree at this point, deterring easy non-starter candidacies is not a problem; I only raised it as the flip side of encouraging good candidates. Due to the problems with trying to use consensus decision-making in a large group, a different process for granting administrative privileges would be more effective, but for better or worse, at present there is no appetite amongst those who discuss the matter to move away from the current straw poll process. isaacl (talk) 14:29, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
I generally find these sorts of things unhelpful, as the review that an RfA candidate goes through will not be as thorough, and since there is no consequence in someone getting a passing grade if you will, the piling on of opposes based on trivial, or minor issues just doesn't happen. So someone who may be a sub-par candidate will go in RfA thinking they can walk on water, but quickly sink. There was a WP:VETTING process a while back that I thought had some promise, where one or two people would go through some candidates and grade them/make improvement suggestions. To be honest, I would've been more than open to mentoring him (I certainly know of areas he could've worked with) especially if I had known that's how the story was going happen but c'est la vie. I'm very sensitive to noticing drama and tension here and I've talked with other users offwiki about this and I have certainly been walled by events like Supdop. I think I found the best thing, and several around here will agree, that it helps to stay away and return when you have a better mindset.
I myself occupy myself with fun other things such as chess, media entertainment, nature and puzzles. I myself, along with other users I've noticed, was a different user within the last ten years and my own perspectives have changed since then (I've noticed how many articles including fabricated jokes that should've been deleted long ago, somehow stayed with nobody noticing them earlier). I'm thinking of applying for Pending Changes reviewer. I already applied once about 2-3 months ago, and the administrator told me to go try when I'm a little more experienced. I think I'm pretty experienced right now, when telling vandalism and such... although I still don't put that many edit summaries. Any tips you have for me? (PS - This is FiendYT. A music group’s article might be on PC because of genre-warring, or a BLP because of undue gossip—check the page logs to see what kind of problems you should be looking for. Your request will have the best chance of success if you can demonstrate some content judgement as well as vandalism-recognition. A record of reverting good-faith but poor edits with helpful explanations (either in edit summaries or on user talk) would certainly be an asset.—Odysseus1479 02:24, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes, each of your review-counts is still on the first hand, so to speak. I’ve only done a few dozen myself; I’ve rarely, if ever, gone looking for edits to review, but about half a percent of the articles on my watchlist are under PC and fairly prominent, generating a trickle of alerts. Hi, BOTFIGHTER. Maybe you are referring to this. Timtrent is a nice person. It is sometimes hard to judge the tone when someone writes. That is why I use a lot. :) :) What Timtrent could have pointed out is what Cullen328 did point out: There are different places for different content. You submitted "...Hi I am Botfighter from India, Maharashtra, Mumbai city. Be respectful with everyone!" as content for the mainspace. The mainspace is the actual encyclopedia. That place is for articles like chair, pizza, Mumbai, etc. Content like "Hi I am Botfighter from India, Maharashtra, Mumbai city. Be respectful with everyone!" is not appropriate for the mainspace. It is best displayed at BOTFIGHTER. Please read WP:42 to learn about what goes in the mainspace, and read WP:UPYES and WP:NOT to learn about what goes on your userpage. Hi BOTFIGHTER. A sandbox is a page in your own userspace. It must be used for something related to Wikipedia, like preparing an article for the mainspace, or content for your userpage. You created content there that could be placed at your userpage. But, you added a draft review template asking others to see if it would become an article in the mainspace. The content you added was not a problem, but adding the draft review template was a problem. The content was not appropriate for an encyclopedia article. If you have more questions, just ask. Thank you for uploading an image to the 2015 San Bernardino shooting article. However, I wonder if you would consider uploading a new image with a more neutral center marker that looks less like a bullseye. This would show more sensitivity to those viewing this topic, particularly the surviving victims, their families, and their friends. I also don't think that the people who live there would feel comfortable being "targeted" like this. Since all we want to do is show the location, the already existing customizable pin head markers exist for this neutral purpose. You may remember that a similar controversy arose after the Arizona shootings when Sarah Palin released a map with target-like bullseye's on it.[17] Thanks. Deletion of Vasant Vihar article

Hello, I have read this article Vasant Vihar, it is full (almost whole) writing goes against the rule of NPOV OR Neutral Point Of View. To inform you there are many places in India of name 'Vasant Vihar', at least this article should have written the article name as 'Vasant Vihar, Delhi', I there is one place called Vasant Vihar in Thane city too. PS, mind you, the other 122 articles on Delhi neighbourhoods listed in the template at the bottom of the article aren't much better, on a spot check. Indeed nearly all articles on Indian places I've ever come across (other than the major cities) are promotional and full of trivia. Unfortunately, as anyone who has lived and worked in the Indian subcontinent knows, it's a cultural dichotomy (I led the massive IEP clean up a few years ago). Not much can be done about it. The WMF China block

All of WMF was blocked for a day or two. I know others in China have been affected the same way. But WMF is back, maybe just for a while. That was the way with google and other sites: a block, temporary return, then perma-block. We shall see. I am working on a way around this. It is uncertain. Class455fan1, we do not know. Maybe considering Jimbo will be going to China soon to discuss zhwp, it is a message that they have the power to block everything. Maybe the block is forewarning of a permanent block. That was the case with others sites they blocked. Anyhow, let's just hope it stays unblocked. As for Google, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and lots more, they are blocked because their content cannot be controlled, I guess. An alternative? Actually Smuckola, I'm thinking of a navbox, like this: Template:Disasters. I just don't know how one would organize Template:Wealth based on Category:Wealth. Why are my changes undone?

Hello, I made changes on Mucahit Bilici entry. All of the changes are public information and included in his faculty page: http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/faculty/mucahit-bilici He is now associate professor not assistant professor. The newspaper for which he writes is no longer TARAF but YENI YUZYIL. All this info can be verified because I included links for those sources. It is unfair that my changes are refused. Please help!

I saw your comment at my ORCP nomination. Thanks, and I'm glad you remember my dark history. Yes, obviously it will come up in an RfA, but how can I solve this problem? I thought for a while about this and what came to my mind is, I need a "strong nominator", I need to get the people who were my detractors to nominate me, confirming that I have indeed turned things round. I know my rusty start would still have influence in an RfA but at least the effect would be lesser. I was able to convince some of them, some people who added their comments here. They have assured that they would co-nominate me after two months or so. One of them is Titodutta (He is also mentoring me with regards to RFA) and the other is MelanieN. You remember, both of them were involved in my history, but I feel I need another kind person who was deeply involved in my past and could nominate me. I would love to hear your opinions. First, please understand that I wish you did not have a dark history, especially considering how your editing is now. You are a constructive member of the community.
I struggled with how to handle seeing your name there. I saw the responses by Samtar and Yash! and suddenly thought about proposing better instructions for responders. Something like "Please consider checking the user talk history and block log before responding...". Despite all the cautions written at that page, I fear that potential candidates may see a responder's not noticing and think it is not caring when it comes to skeletons in the closet. The last thing I want to see is an unfit candidate relying on the poll then getting a bad RfA result.
So, I posted, not with my personal feelings, but with a link so others could give their honest views having the facts. I wanted to turn the poll, in your case, from something that could mislead, to something that could give an honest forecast.
About your possible RfA, I am not sure any nomination would do the trick. Why should it? When it comes to deception and lying, for many, no span of time is enough to make people believe a person is no longer that type of person. For many, once a liar, always a liar. Also, people trust the judgment of nominators, but they trust their own too. Nobody will read that early post, make up their mind, then say "Well, MelanieN nominated him so she must think it is not so bad, so I guess I should change my mind and think it is alright too." Also, nominating someone who has such a history is a risk. If the RfA goes badly, that good nominator is a good nominator no more and people will start to question their judgement.
So, we see commonly see RfAs where a candidate has a few issues, and I mean a small few, and they fail and the person is heartbroken and they leave. I don't want you to leave. I am sorry to spell it out here, by it is really important for you to think about this before deciding to run. You may well get many opposes and editors pointing out your block log, lying, lying to cover up a lie, a dozen or more instances of poor judgement, up until recently, displayed throughout your current talk archives and past archives, calling a user "insane", failing to stop and listen so, so many times in your old archives, sockpuppetry, copyright violations, and even claims of hat collecting. Titodutta referred to you back then as someone who seeks to "...reach to the top...", and you certainly have headed in that direction. You are now an Arbcom clerk, autoreviewer, massmessage-sender, reviewer, rollbacker, and of course, autoconfirmed. Some might indeed see that as hat collecting.
So, this is all far from a "rusty start". And this is all within a couple of years. I just do not see how you can solve this problem. My advice would be to see how the poll goes. If it is favourable, seek a good nom or two or more. If Tito and Melanie will nominate you, that is great. You wrote "...need another kind person who was deeply involved in my past and could nominate me...". If you are suggesting I nominate you, I must decline. Once somebody lies to me, I have trust issues with them indefinitely. Plus, I simply could not support someone with that sort of history. But ask yourself about your own chances. Do you think you would pass?
If I could have the future exactly the way I wanted, I would see you be an editor and not an admin indefinitely. My concern is that you run for RfA and it does not go well and you leave, or, you pass, make a bunch of bad calls, and dozens of reading/keystroke hours are spent de-sysopping you. You make tons of good edits (which by far outweigh your occassional bad judgement calls, which are fewer and fewer). I don't want to see anything change that.

Maybe yes, liars are always liars, maybe no. I don't know. But I do know what I did at that time, I was one among many confused newbie, and it was a normal instinct for them to coin up stories. FWIW, The whole thing, everything about my past is already been mentioned at my user page. Those who responded, even in a cursory look most probably have check my user page, I'm trying to hide nothing. Anyhow, thanks for your opinion. I'm certainly not a WP:DIVA and will definitely not leave if I fail in an RfA, I don't consider it a big deal. In fact, unless someone snatches my editing privileges for no reason, I'll definitely not leave. I guess, I will not run for adminship, I and everyone respect your opinion and if I run, by far your opinion will sway my supports to oppose camp. As for lying due to confusion, and it being a "normal instinct", well, we have to disagree there. I don't think it is normal, necessary, or acceptable, at least not among the people I surround myself with. Sure, we all lie from time to time, but to protect the feelings of others or our privacy or some other possibly acceptable reason. Lying to gain advantage or get out of a situation is just not okay. To me, adminship is about trust more than anything, and then competence and other things. Bad behaviour and blocks, well, a few years the other way around and one can say they've really matured and changed. But once somebody has lied even once (let alone several times including lying to cover the lies) they've blown it forever, as far as I'm concerned. But I feel, I'm still far away from being trusted by everyone. Anyhow, I'm an editor and I'm happy being one. And the hatcollect thingy: Autoreviewer flag and reviewer flag was granted without me asking for them. ArbCom trainee: I like that work. Mass-message sender, I now use it for WP:RETENTION.
