Suggestion

Hello! Sorry to disturb you again! I have made some improvements on my article Like a Speeding Youth. Can you check it and give me more suggestions? Best Wishes — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnu-12-22100538 (talkcontribs) 09:05, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

The Lampoon template

Hi Anna, Do you know an easy (automated?) way to change over the bullets to the larger size ones on the template? If not then maybe I can change them all by hand. Invertzoo (talk) 13:55, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Sure. Copy paste the whole thing into Word and search and replace (ctrl-H). If you have trouble, just dump the new bullet on my talk and I'll do it. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:03, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi to you Anna. I changed the bullet points as per your suggestion, and now the whole thing looks much better! Thanks so much and if you have any other ideas for improving it, please let me know. Invertzoo (talk) 21:43, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you!!

Thank you for your encouragement. Yes! I also find that I need eliminate some introductions about preface. I will continue to improve it. Best Wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnu-12-22100538 (talkcontribs) 15:00, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Question!!

One more thing I want to enquire you. When these warnings above my essay can be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnu-12-22100538 (talkcontribs) 15:03, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Question again

I state some opinions by analysing the content. The opinions seem subjective, but actually they are based on the content of the book. I didn't make them up by myself. Does this thought is wrong? I feel confused now. Best — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nnu-12-22100538 (talkcontribs) 15:14, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Messages from NNU-02-05100129

Dear Anna: I'm Tracy from Nanjing Normal University.Recently, you have sent me some messages telling me that the files I had uploaded unqualified. I've had a look at them and added more information to qualify them. Therefore, I'm writing to thank you first for your kind reminding and hope you can check my revised files to see whether they are correct. Thank you to have a friend like you ~~ Merry Christmas! Yours sincerely, Tracy — Preceding unsigned comment added by NNU-02-05100129 (talkcontribs) 10:32, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Tracy. Thank you for checking the files. I hope the additional information helps. The important part is still missing. Where it says "Source", you should add the website that it came from.
Anyway, it's always my pleasure to help. I hope you have a nice Christmas, and a very, very nice and relaxing Spring Festival. I hope you fly, or have a bed on the train, and not a seat if you have to travel far. :) Best wishes and Merry Christmas!!! Your friend, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:38, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Diploria labyrinthiformis

Hello! Your submission of Diploria labyrinthiformis at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!

I used this template though I realise you didn't actually nominate the article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:43, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Helo, Cwmhiraeth. Thanks for working on the article. Sure, the "Relationships with other species" section was a bit crummy, but the rest wasn't too, too bad, considering it was my first coral article. I only wanted to stub it because it was a good picture deserving a home, and I couldn't find a lot of sources to expand it. I tried not to close paraphrase, but I don't know a synonym for "symbiotic dinoflagellate algae", "energy", or " calcification". I meant to come back and give it some distance from the source. Actually, I forgot to proof it too. I got distracted and started doing something else.
Anyway, I don't know that DYK nom is the right place to point out what a lousy job I did. Maybe just fixing it and moving on would have been best. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Plus, you changed the list to prose and pointed out that I copy pasted it from WoRMS. But, it's cc-sa, so I was allowed to do so. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:10, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
I started to review the article and had decided to put a "?" on it, but when I got back to the DYK page I found that "rcej" had already approved it. I didn't think it should be on DYK as it was but, having been approved, it might have gone forward without any further checks. So yes, I was a bit tactless, and I am sorry to have offended you. It wasn't a bad article, just a bit under-checked. And you were not to know that someone else would nominate it for DYK in its unpolished state. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:26, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
No worries at all. And I will try to be more careful in the future. :) Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:51, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for reminding me of the problem

I have read about your question, it's very accurate. The title of my article Faculty of Teachers' Education of Nanjing Normal University was created before I noticed that it is officially called "College of Teacher Educaiton of Nanjing Normal University". I tried to change the title but failed. Can the title of the passage be changed? At the same time, a helper from Wikipedia pointed out that an article about a college/school of tertiary universities is queer. But if it were put on the NNU page, it would seem of disproportionate importance. How can i handle it? I will appropriate it if you are willing to help me out of the dilemma. Nnu-12-22100554 (talk) 08:46, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Well, I see that the page has been moved to College of Teacher Education of Nanjing Normal University, so that takes care of that problem. Now, the second matter: Should it be part of Nanjing Normal University. Nanjing Normal University is small enough to accommodate it. But, College of Teacher Education of Nanjing Normal University would make a very big section, and end up comprising half of the NNU article. I personally think it's okay to stand alone. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:16, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

artikel about myself ( )

Hello Anna,

My name is Hannah Jong and I am a dutch artist. I found a reference on wikipedia about myself ( It's an artikel about the town where I was born) I am listed in that artikel under the heading of "notable people born in Lisse" I would like to write that article ( attach it to that link) but I understand that I am not supposed to write an article about myself. So my question is: can I? Or is this strictly forbidden?

Kind regards, Hannah Fynnagan (talk) 22:31, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Hannah, and welcome. A Dutch artist? I like you already. :) I lived in Amsterdam for 4 years, was connected to the squatting community, and miss brandnetelkaas very much. Yes, you can write an article about yourself. First, you should read WP:COI. Two main things: Find lots and lots of good sources (see: WP:GNG and WP:Identifying reliable sources), and write neutrally - just the facts - no promotion. If you need help, just ask. I'm here. Doei. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:56, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for your kind answer Anna, I would love to share a brandnetelkaas sandwich with you..lol ( with cucumber!)) aaand maybe a touch of bieslook) I will do as you instructed, and keeping it formal and neutral, like it should. I'm thinking that "references" means official and non-personal stuff like awards traceable on the web and publications in books and magazines that are traceable and memberships of official international meaning. I do have another question though. I seem to be much more known outside my own country. ( It's a bitch) It's because of the nature of my art; Wildlife. The genre is not big in the Netherlands but silly enough I am gaining acknowledgment in other countries. ( Hence the notification..lol) So my question is, since I have noticed that my account does not cover the dutch version of wikipedia. ( I did seem to need another username and password) Can I make a dutch version as well? Or do I need someone else to invite me trough a reference in an article such as in the English version?

Thanks again..and DOEI!! lol Hannah Fynnagan (talk) 02:14, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Mmmmmm bieslook. :)
You can use reliable references from any nation, in any language. You can also use your own personal website as a reference. The trick is to have enough reliable third-party sources to pass GNG "General notability guidelines".
Of course you can make a Dutch version. You can log in to all Wikipedias by going to "Preferences" and clicking "Manage your global account". That should work. Let me know if you have trouble. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:07, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Regarding the editing of matter waves page

Hey,

I had earlier edited the matter waves page so that a recent development of this field should get cited in the text. But, I think you have undid the editing. I think that the introduction regarding the inadequacies of matter wave's theory is necessary therefore, pls do not undo that additional written text (in the first para of matter waves page).......

Picture of Waghya

Hello Anna F. and Anna F. talk page watchers! If you would, could someone improve and accomodate the picture of the statue of the Waghya the famous loyal dog here: List_of_dogs#Faithful_dogs? I'm not good at pictures like you. Should it be cropped, repositioned, or sized? Chrisrus (talk) 05:45, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

I think you should copy the image, preserving the original. The second image can be cropped just to show the doggie. That would make a good lead image for the article. Which should be in list of dogs is up to you. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:42, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I wish I could do all that really quickly and easily, but I can't, probably just because I don't know how. I asked you because I have this idea you like manipulating images and are good it and that you would just look at it and it'd be fixed within seconds cuz it'd be easy for you and it'd be a major project for me. Chrisrus (talk) 21:09, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Catesby's Snail-Eater

So, my question is: does it actually eat snails? Invertzoo (talk) 17:27, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Do they? Indeed! They go to town on snails. Each year, they fly by the thousand to Spain for the Aplec del Caragol de Lleida. You can't get a hotel room. They are literally dripping from the rafters over there. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:28, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Hainan again

You come to my talk ask for discussion and then run away. What do you want? Where is the logic in calling Hainan Province Hainan, and calling Taiwan Province, Taiwan Province. Hainan as single word means the island for many many people. If for you this is different - ok, but it shouldn't be used that way in Wikipedia. It is confusing. One has no confusion if always the full names are used. Hainan Island and Hainan Province. Have you seen the funny Category:Islands of Taiwan? Are these all islands located on the Taiwan Island? The article name for the island is Taiwan, so the category could mean that.

plain name island article province article(s) island systematic province systematic
Hainan Hainan (disambiguation) Hainan Island Hainan Island
Taiwan Taiwan (disambiguation) Taiwan Taiwan Island
Fujian Fujian (disambiguation) none none

Strawberry rhubarb pie

Could you explain your revert on Strawberry rhubarb pie? User:LittleRedWriter has complained on my talk page about it. We don't have recipes in Wikipedia articles - those are best kept for Wikibooks' recipe project - but even so, this isn't on. If you are going to revert, please explain the revert. Yes, you are fixing the category link, but you are removing content too, without explanation. —Tom Morris (talk) 16:18, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

The diff provided hides one intermediate. See the history. The first edit I made removed the recipe, and detailed info about the ingredients. I provided the edit summary "revert good faith edit: detailed info about ingredients needn't appear in this article." in the first edit. I hope that sorts things out. I didn't mean to offend the editor. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:29, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
{{ec}(talk page stalker)Actually, not without explanation - you've got two edits in one there. Check the first. What's more, the information she remove isn't unreasonably removed - we already have an article on Rhubarb and one on Strawberries and reverting the addition of the scientific origin of the ingredients and a recipe seems reasonable to me. Having said that, Anna, at the moment, it seems like the only person who can edit the article is you, as you revert everything else that's been said - from the outside, it does look a bit like WP:OWN. Perhaps you could discuss expansion of the stub on the talk page? Or offer some suggestions to LittleRedWriter? WormTT · (talk) 16:32, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Having looked at LittleRedWriter's talk page, I see this has come up before. I'll see if I can expand the article on Friday night, will give me something to do on the release. WormTT · (talk) 16:37, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Honestly, I have no history of showing ownership of articles. I welcome all edits about the pie. Details about the ingredients I'm not so crazy about. But, as you can see from her talk page, I've tried to be gentle and explain things, twice. She didn't respond. I stated at User talk:Tom Morris#Advice please that she is free to restore the content. It's very likely that someone else will eventually remove the content she added. But I won't. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

new pending article

Hi Anna. I am totally new to this. I have a pending article (Defence Intelligence) that it would be great to get some feedback on. I think I have enough references but would like to know if there is more I can do to improve on the page. I'm not sure if you're able to see it yet as it is still pending. I have a copy in my personal sandbox. I also got this warning when I submitted it: "Warning: A page with this title already exists. Please make sure that this proposed article does not already exist or that it does not need to be moved to a different title." This might be because another group is named the same thing or that a previous version of my article written by someone else was once deleted. Should I consider renaming my article to differentiate it somehow? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tana9408 (talkcontribs) 19:36, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Anna might have more input on this but I think when you were told there is already an article they were talking about Military intelligence. Right now if you enter Defence intelligence you get taken (redirected) to the Military intelligence article. Cloveapple (talk) 19:53, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
I think the topic is a company, and not the oxymoronic military discipline "military intelligence". The article actually looks good prima facie. I will check the refs and move it to the mainspace if appropriate. The best name may be Defence Intelligence (company), as conventions prefer that over Defence Intelligence Inc.. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:52, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Aahh, good to see there's an easy solution for the warning message. Cloveapple (talk) 15:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Followup on AfC in quesition (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Defence Intelligence Inc.):
There are 22 refs listed. Apart from the company's own publications, only these discuss the company, and can be used to support the article:

Huayu-Huayu

The editor you quiestioned over Hainan is now persisting on renaming categories and starting articles named "Taiwan Islands". Its not politically correct given than some of them are disputed. Can you watch out for him, I have never heard them referred to as the "Taiwan Islands" and they are hotly disputed between China and Japan so I don't think we should go there.. Look at the source on Taiwan Islands. China.org... Its not right.. Even the name Taiwan of course is argued over... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:20, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

I've been watching this from afar. I try to stay out of such matters. However, I do approve of details in Hainan talking about the island, but do not approve of a separate article. Also, I wish he would just slow down and get consensus before doing things that may take a while to undo, if consensus is not reached. Perhaps a post at Project China would be in order. I don't see a centralized discussion on his edits anywhere. I will check further. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:52, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Howse Williams Bowers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Hello, Whenaxis. I'm replying here in the hope that others at the IRC help channel doing AfC work see this. I am actually happy that those two articles were challenged. One, of course, I approved. I opted for AfD because there are claims of notability. But moreover, I want to subject them to scrutiny. I need the feedback.
Lately, I may have been a bit soft in approving articles. I could be suffering from reverse discrimination, as I don't particularly like polluting the encyclopedia with borderline notable companies. Plus, I may have been following the standard at IRC, which has recently been, frankly, a little low in the bar, if you get my meaning.
Unless those two article come through AfD with flying colours, I will henceforth raise the bar a good deal, and approve only super-rock solid articles.
I respect your judgement call, and may have done the same. Many thanks for your boldness. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:35, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
I appreciate your efforts to improve Wikipedia and I'm happy to see that you reviewed Wikipedia's notability guideline and saw that these articles were indeed not acceptable by the community. I wish you the best of luck to continue adding to Wikipedia and thank you for your dedication to to the AfC program. Whenaxis about | talk 21:10, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Whether or not they are acceptable remains to be determined at the AfD. Personally, I hope they get deleted. I have chatted at IRC with a few others about this. I have stated that I will no longer approve anything less that highly notable articles. One editor told me that German WP allows only huge companies with many employees as articles. I like that. After all, unlike species or towns, who knows if a company will be around in a year. Notability is not temporary, and the last thing we need is zillions of company articles. Plus, these are being pushed on us for promo reasons by PR firms. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:19, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
We just have to wait and see, I guess. Whenaxis about | talk 22:24, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

How do I get the numbers to pull up next to the links and stuff and how do I create a redirect? I would like Jjang to redirect to the page.Merging people in meh Chambah. (talk) 20:19, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

You make references like this:

All bunnies are cute.<ref>http://www.all-about-rabbits.com</ref>

Then add this to the bottom of the article:

{{reflist}}

It will make this:

All bunnies are cute.[1]

I see you have figured out the redirect. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:05, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia next semester

Hi Anna, Student feedback on Wikipedia has been so-so, with many students finding the technical side of it too hard to master, and a number of them finding the deletions, etc. very dispiriting. I can't devote a lot of class time to the Wikipedia nitty-gritty, since it isn't directly writing-related. I had thought that students would be able to figure it out for themselves, but evidently not everyone did. I see the guidelines in your sandbox haven't moved forward so far, so I feel okay about putting the project on ice for the moment. I'll have new students next semester, and I am thinking about whether a wikispaces project might serve them better. All this to say that I very much appreciate all your help and hard work, and that for the moment I am still weighing the options for February. And now I see that I have forgotten to log in. But you know that this is yours sincerely, njnu-ban-xueshenghao — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.194.10.145 (talk) 11:49, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Josh. Well, I never knew that Wikispaces existed. Cool. I'm not quite sure about your plan. Do you want them to create articles that will become part of another project? Pity. :( Well, whatever helps the students. I do understand how daunting Wikipedia can be to newcomers. But, there was absolutely no preparation with the last group. We were all just winging it. Maybe with proper organization, comprehensive instruction, and the use of our acquired experience, a future group could work well. The last group contributed hundreds of new articles to this project. It would be a shame to lose out on another batch. Let me know if/how we can help make it easier for all of us. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:30, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

bamboo species page

hi Anna,

when I was searching for a list of Bamboo species I came across the page 'Bamboo Species'. I have some suggestions to change the way these bamboo species are listed and as you were the last one to update that page and because I'm a novice to wiki updates, I would like to ask you how I should proceed from here, and who I should send my suggestions? The suggestion would be to limit the 'Bamboo Species' page to the species and create pages for each species for the various subspecies and varieties. For some species this has already been done, some species aren't listed and quite a lot of subspecies and varieties are now in the 'Bamboo species' page. Could be quite an amount of work, which is another reason to ask before I try anything. Debugging Naval Squadron

Hi Khazar,

Thanks for debugging "my" article. As you may have noted, English is not my first language and it is impossible for me to get an idea of my English proficiency. I read the article and perfectly understand all of it, but I guess that (more than) sometimes I don't meet the Wikipedia's lowest standards. On the other hand, I choose the theme of the article because it is very simple: ships sailed bound for, sunk or were captured. In order to improve my English, I would like to ask you some questions about form of the article:

  • is it legible?, can you understand the text overall? is it easy to understand?
  • did you find repeated or striking grammatical errors in the text?
  • can you guess which is my first language from the text (and not from the theme)?, sounds it like Spanglish?
  • do the article observes the rules of Wikipedia? neutral? complete? referenced?, at least, does it seem to observe the rules?
  • would you say that the vocabulary is appropiated for the theme?

I would appreciate your answers in your talk page. Thanks in advance, --Best regards, Keysanger (what?) 12:52, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Translation class

I'll also have a different group, probably around 30-35 students, in a Translation course. Do we want to set them to work translating Chinese Wikipedia articles, or not so much? Njnu-ban-xueshenghao (talk) 02:19, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

All are welcome to contribute, of course. Would you like to add them to this group? We could structure it the same way, and section to the topics page. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:39, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

I was thinking of going through these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_needing_translation_from_Chinese_Wikipedia and assigning students a selection of them, working in pairs. But I think those students (who are not supposed to be practicing writing or research, just translation) may need a separate page. Thoughts? Njnu-ban-xueshenghao (talk) 06:42, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

A separate table at Article management may be best. Considering that these will also need to be checked, keeping them in view of the helpers may be the best plan. What do you think? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:03, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Sounds good. Njnu-ban-xueshenghao (talk) 01:26, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Alfred Ernest Ice Shelf

I was just adding coordinates to Alfred Ernest Ice Shelf and notice you added the sentence about ARLISS-II. While the reference is quite clear on the name and date (1955) of the island I was wondering if you knew of any connection between it and Fletcher's Ice Island? The problem is that Fletcher's is supposed to have been know of in 1952 and drifted to Alaska and then back. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 08:18, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm puzzled. I found this, but am still trying to make sense of it all. What do you think? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:25, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Me too. How do you find an ice island and how does it move when it's in multi year ice as it would have been in 1952. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 09:00, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
I have no idea. I cross-linked the two articles with "see also". Hopefully those who know will see the other article and make sense of it. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:24, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science#Ice islands. At least I'll find out how the thing was moving around. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 10:10, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. I look forward to finding out as well. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:11, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Your images

Hi, there are some problems with your photos' usage in several articles. Many of the articles already have a lot of pictures in it, so by keep adding photos to them, especially to sections such as "See also" (examples such as the articles of baozi and jiaozi; please explain why does the "See also" section needs a large sized photo that is unrelated to any of the links and why the "History" section has a photo of a Jiaozi vendor? No relation at all.), does not enhance the article's content or appearance, and make the articles look "congested" even I'm afraid. Photos are visual illustrations, but only if the information requires it. One such example is the wonton article, in that that you added a picture of a woman selling wonton to a section titled "Chinese names". The picture virtually has nothing to do with the content, which is about etymology, thus one wonders why such random picture is even doing there? Honestly, it seems like many of the photos are just showing up in a variety of articles for no apparent reason at all. Best not to over use them. Regards.--Teamjenn (talk) 11:51, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

It is true, I've dumped quite a few images in articles, somewhat carelessly. Perhaps I'm being a bit defensive. This is the first time anyone has systematically gone through my images/contribs in such a way. I will continue to review the appropriateness of my contribs in this regard, and make improvements, as I have been doing since this started. As for the cargo net image swap in those 3 articles, we will see what others say at Talk:Cargo_net#Best lede image. I still like the one that shows the net clearly. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:08, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. I do see your point. I'm sort of split on it. Half of me likes lots of images because they impart so much information. The other half sees them really screwing up the aesthetics of the article.
But, even though I can't find a guideline against it, I agree with you that the image should pertain to the section it's in. It's too bad because the commonscat box is so easily overlooked by visitors, and an image of a lady making baozi is certainly interesting, but without an accompanying section, shouldn't be there. Then again, isn't that what the caption is for?
I don't know. I'm terrible at weighing out pros and cons. Stalkers! Tell me what to do! :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:20, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Did you review Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images? I think you're both right. Personally, I would judge each article and image use on its own merits. For example, I usually use only one image per section, but I had so many images for Lahaina Banyan Court Park that I loaded each section with two images. I tend not to use see also sections unless I have important links that need to be added, and then I use that section only as a temporary pointer. So I can't really comment on whether images are appropriate there, but based on my past experience with Anna, she knows more about images and image layout than most, so I would trust her judgment, not just as an artist and photographer, but also as a Wikipedian who is fairly comfortable and knowledgeable about the guidelines and policies. It's inevitable that two users will take two different approaches, so it's best to judge the situation on an article by article basis rather than making some sweeping generalization about editing behavior as a whole. I can't recall ever seeing any problematic images added by Anna, and after reviewing this issue, perhaps the both of you could come to an agreement, somewhere in the middle. To summarize, Teamjenn offers good advice about not overusing images, but Anna also offers an excellent point about adding relevant images to articles that illustrate the topic. I think that current practice lies somewhere in the middle, but one could argue that house style leans towards Anna's approach. This is because, at the end of the day, Wikipedia has a dearth of articles with images. Viriditas (talk) 08:54, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the very welcome input. I will read up and comment. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:42, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Tricky. Manual of Style says: "...Articles that use more than one image should present a variety of material near relevant text..." In this instance, the image does look out of place, regardless of the caption. I guess a blurb about selling wontons should be present (which I just added) for that image to be there. But as Viriditas says, we should avoid sweeping generalizations, and instead use common sense. Some images should be in articles if they pertain to the topic, regardless of sections and nearby text.
So, Viriditas leans toward my approach. I'm now sort of leaning toward Teamjenn's approach. Now, if Teamjenn leans toward Viriditas' approach, it might actually tear space-time, and we could get sucked into oblivion.
Seriously though, balance. I'll shoot for balance. Many thanks for the input. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:09, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

<g>. Btw, you probably will not have seen it but a recent RfC means that Indic scripts are now not to be used for placenames, people etc. IPA is ok but Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu etc are not. - Sitush (talk) 17:35, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

My finger slipped. Would I rollback you? :) Never! :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:39, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

List of Ror

I have been conversing with DGG and have referred to a talk page thread in which you were involved - Talk:List of Ror - & so think it best to let you know. See User talk:DGG#List of Gouds. - Sitush (talk) 20:40, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you very much. I'm watching. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:17, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

About the artices List of soups and the article on stews

I had not actually seen the article on List of soups, but I shall be quite happy if you wish to refigure it as a table - just what ever you think will be better. The article on stews is probably best left as it is - a lot of it is not a list, but prose commentary on stews. Thank you for your message, ACEOREVIVED (talk) 11:53, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Good advice. Many thanks for the input. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:32, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Re: Flickr2Commons

Hi, I saw your help wanted sign and I tried to apply for the position, but I keep getting "TUSC verification failed". Sorry. Viriditas (talk) 06:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Ahhhhh. Very interesting. I get the same thing. Maybe I'm not blocked after all. The tool must be down. I will get the scoop at IRC Commons. Thanks for trying. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:32, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
The comments on the pigeon pie image are hilarious! "Do you still alive?" Viriditas (talk) 10:42, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Anna, I've seen this TUSC thing popping up on various pages but even now do not understand it. Is there a decent explanation somewhere? Eg: a list of tools that are subject to TUSC? - Sitush (talk) 10:45, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Good question. I don't know. I just know that you need to register with TUSC to use the flickr2commons tool, and that TUSC doesn't work. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:53, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I am uploading them for you now, trusting that the licenses are ok. - Sitush (talk) 11:42, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Done using this. You can see them here. And now I'll get a shedload of warnings about missing categories, descriptions etc! - Sitush (talk) 11:51, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
You're an angel. I'm taking the license posted at flickr on good faith. I don't know if it's truthful. I've checked commons for duplicates also, and the files are needed and unique. Many thanks. I've saved the Bryan's tool and will try it myself next time. Thank you thank you thank you. :)Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:56, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Tool info is here. NB: you are limited to 24 uploads per hour. The key is the third page that is presented when you use the bot, so:
  • fill in the form & ok it
  • fill in the cats, description etc
  • save the next page that appears
  • click on the upload link
If you find that you are blocked from using that one then just give me a yell in future and I'll do it for you. - Sitush (talk) 12:06, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I will give it a whirl. Thank you so much. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:12, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Hannah Glasse wrote a quite famous cookbook, in which she mentioned pigeon pie - see this if you can. I've made it myself, but not to her recipe. - Sitush (talk) 14:52, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

No hurry on this

as if they were flowers with spinning blossoms

Aloha, Anna. I'm curious, have you been making many images these days? I've got a new request for one, and I think you're going to like it! It's a request for an image based on a poem called All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace and it goes like this. Thanks, and let me know. Viriditas (talk) 11:24, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

You can listen to him read the poem, here. Viriditas (talk) 11:49, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Nice poem. Sort of spooky. At first I thought you meant the Curtis bit, which was pretty good. But, not as good as The Power of Nightmares. Hmmmm, so image huh. Okay. I will think about it. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:08, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Something tells me this is going to be your best work yet! :) Viriditas (talk) 08:11, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
You're causing me to panic, and quite enjoying it, me thinks. By the way, there was a major study comparing the causes of the phenomena "panic" and "picnic". The conclusion was that the later is caused by sunny weather and free time. The scientist has since had his funding revoked and was arrested for growing mushrooms in his basement. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:47, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
DON'T PANIC. DO PICNIC. DANS LE NU. :) Viriditas (talk) 01:03, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Prosfiction

Anna,

I am wondering why you could imagine that the article prosfiction is a hoax or should be deleted. It is a method, that is already used more than 10 years for researching after next technology, especially for military purpose or governmental positioning. Perhaps it sounds complex, not easily understandable, however it has a sound base and I personally applied it on several national and international organizations.

Would be interesting to hear your opinion. Thanks

Daniel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Foltigo (talkcontribs) 21:49, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Daniel. I'm so sorry. Maybe you're right. I just can't find any good references. Please find some if you can. Anyway, don't be discouraged if it gets deleted. If you want to make an article that for sure won't ever get deleted, see here: Wikipedia:Requested articles/Images. I'll help if you like. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:25, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thank you so much. Actually, I wasn't very kind just a few minutes ago. I just flicked one of my dwarf hamsters on the head, and sort of knocked him giddy. I'm feeling dreadful about it. He was trying to force another hamster "porkchop" to give up the food he had stored in his cheeks. They do that sometimes when I give them sesame seeds. Oh dear. Just to let you know

This is just a quick message to let you know that I have seen the articles on List of stews and List of soups and how you have converted them to table format - they look good that way, you have done a good job. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 11:37, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, thank you. Actually, List of stews was the model. I only enlarged the images. As for List of soups, I guess it's the same as the others. I like List of sandwiches, etc. being tabled, but soups seems sort of strange, seeing that you can really see the surface of the soup. Too many Ssss, I see. Anyhow, thanks so much for the encouragement. Best wishes and happy bunnies!! But now, a serious question: have you been bunnied?  :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:54, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Help please

Help please! As some who is good at tabulation, you may be able to sort this out. I was trying to tidy the presentation of List of chocolate bar brands, and accidentally lost the table format. Do you think you could inspect the article and get the table back? Any help will be appreciated a thousand times! Many thanks, ACEOREVIVED (talk) 12:11, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm working on it. Been bunnied?? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:13, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Done I will do a bit more formatting. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:19, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Done totally, I think. Some may freak out, but I think it's an improvement. :) Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:29, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Many thanks for your response, and I also contacted people at Wikipedia: Help desk who got helped me with the article List of chocolate bar brands. By the way, what does "Being bunnied" mean? Does it mean have I lost my job - which I have (there have been quite a lot of staff who have been made redundant (in the past eight months) at the university where I used to work)? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 15:24, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh dear! I'm so sorry to freak you out, and terribly sorry you lost your job. :( I hope the bunny at your talk cheers you up, and you find an even better job very soon. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:28, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Nice work

Northamerica1000(talk) 16:53, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

AfD and PROD notifications

Hi Anna. Awhile back you got either an AfD or PROD notification, and it was during one of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at swalling@wikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 00:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, I don't exactly know where I should post the feedback, so I will post here and you can paste it to the right location, if you want. :)

In point form:

  • Love 'em!
  • Achieves the "General principles we are shooting for..."
  • The absence of the amber triangle thingy is good. Those make the user from feel like they've done something wrong, or triggered some sort of software warning.
  • The first person writing conveys a more human tone.
  • In the AFD one, the softening of "Nomination of X for deletion" into "Deletion discussion about", makes the user feel that a few others are discussing, and not some large committee with some overlord nominating. So, that's less embarrassing and more private.
  • In the PROD one, I like the clear bullets. The user will be freaking out, and will want clear step-by-step instructions on what to do.
  • In the PROD one, only 2 blue links is better than the current, and overwhelming, 7.
  • Friendlier, so better user retention.

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:37, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh, right, the "feedback section". I will paste it there. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:38, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the comments Anna! You're the best. If you want, I can keep you updated about any new developments... Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 18:58, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
