Editing others' user pages

Please stop edit-warring over User:Argyriou. A number of editors on AN/I felt the userbox was acceptable; if you disagree, the next step is to take it to WP:TfD or WP:MfD, I would think. Revert-warring on another user's userpage is bad. Argyriou's comments toward you, and his stated intention to annoy you, are childish, but putting the userbox on his own userpage is not vandalism. A word of advice: he's trying to provoke you. Ignore him. Failing that, you can discuss his lack of civility in an appropriate forum, though I'd recommend the former for now. In any case, if you keep reverting his userpage and removing what, at this point, appears to be a legitimate userbox, I would feel compelled to block you. That's not to condone his activity, which has been quite childish, but nonetheless you need to stop revert-warring on his userpage. MastCell Talk 20:09, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Potter

I am happy you agree that speculation about roles is inappropriate in the Harry Potter films. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film) also has such a section.--Chris Griswold () 15:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great if you could join in the discussion at Talk:Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film)#Previous roles and new characters section. Thanks! --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 16:35, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sceptre, please, instead of engaging in a revert war as if the issue has been resolved, let's finish the discussion before taking action. Leave it one way or another, whether included or not, but let's talk before doing anything. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 04:42, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right, well, I've told him to lay off too, it's not hurting anybody to leave it in for the time being, and it's not hurting anyone to leave it out for the time being. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 13:55, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

monetary union

Ok, if you like. But it can close now as a speedy or someone else can do it tomorrow as as WP:SNOW. The topic is a serious matter discussed by serious people in serious venues. The fundamental rationale of the nomination no longer holds and needs re-writing. (As a point of order, you should not overturn an administrative decision in a matter in which you are involved.) Bucketsofg 18:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool! Your Sindarin is sure better than mine--I made a brief attempt to learn Quenya once but kept getting put off by its disconcertingly close resemblance to Finnish.

I don't mean to pry open this can of worms again, but if you want a laugh, take a look at Anonimu's talk page now. :-D (only don't edit it, please, no matter how tempting it may be! I had to restrain myself too!) K. Lásztocska Review me? 15:08, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! :)

Thank you for your beautiful words and warm wishes on my birthday, dear Will! I took a well-deserved one-day wikibreak and spent it with my family and my friends... and actually had a beer after months of forced abstinence! :) Of course, there's no way I'd forget about you, so I saved a great, tasty piece of chocolate cake just for you - but sorry, no beer left! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to wish me well, and have a wonderful day, my friend! Love, Phaedriel - 20:03, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When there's so much to be grateful for, and gestures that hold such an inner beauty like those you dedicated me, it's best not to ruin it with words; but let a fond, virtual smile, and a simple "thank you" be all the testimony of a friendship... Thank you so much! xxx, Sharon

"My attempts to tell him to stop canvassing were rebuffed as a "waste of time"."

I don't canvass, nor do I ever recall talking to you about canvassing. White Cat's "evidence" of me canvassing was me contacting each person involved in the prior MFD regarding a DRV, which is not canvassing. I'm a bit confused here. -- Ned Scott 20:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sceptre, and thanks for your participation in my RfA. I've withdrawn it, and will be writing up an "analysis" of it, which will soon be available at User:Giggy/RfA/Giggy when it's done. my userpage

thanks for clearing up whatever bugs were there, but can I have the Signpost back? I don't really want to get on the spamlist (it'll just clutter up my talk page, the box is so much more efficient) but I don't want to lose my "subscription" either. I'm horrid at HTML, so I'm afraid I don't even know what you've been doing and can't be of any help....K. Lásztocska Review me? 20:52, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tea

My connexion is absolutely, totally, and completely in the bottom of the toilet right now which is why I'm not on Google Talk, but it would be hard to show you these there anyway. :)

So here is how I make tea.

Now you can tell me everything I did wrong. :P —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  04:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...*shudder*...Spring, you're such a bloody Yank! You're supposed to use loose-leaf tea in a teapot (warmed with a slosh of hot water beforehand), a spoonful of tea leaves for as many cups as you want. Also, you put the milk in first (otherwise the hot tea scalds it and it tastes nasty.) Although, milk is only for strong teas--something light like a Darjeeling should probably not have milk...K. Lásztocska 01:36, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was Earl Grey. I did put the milk in before at first, but it made it far too rich for my liking (plus I don't know that many people who like milk and water mixed together, ew). So I personalised it. :D And I made it that way many times in England and nobody fussed at me, so—oh and I never drink enough tea at a time to even warrant owning a pot. :) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  03:48, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, no, I mean you put the milk in the cup before pouring in the already-brewed tea from the TEAPOT!!! ;-) Yes, I'm letting my British-Isles ancestry run wild here, pardon me. K. Lásztocska 04:09, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But what if you're Irish-American (which has nothing to do with it), and don't have a pot? :P —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  04:13, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then you buy a pot... :P K. Lásztocska 16:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Erm...guys, I have a terrible confession to make: I just made myself a nice 'ot cuppa Earl Grey...brewed in a mug, milk added afterwards. Wince. Proper tea-making is like Communism: sounds great in theory but never seems to work out in practice. K. Lásztocska 16:53, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case I'll just make mine when nobody's looking and only drink it properly! :P —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  20:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! If you think that method of tea is crazy, you should see me making "tea." I boil the water, have the teabag in the cup first, and pour in just a teeeeeny bit of water. Then I take out the bag, add two spoons of sugar, and add so much milk that about 90-95% of the "tea" is really just sweet milk. Of course, this is not easy to do in an Indian family without being made fun of mercilessly all the time :-D --Kuaichik 03:37, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nasmith images

I don't think I get you here. The license being claimed for them is fair use, and that would have to be the case whether they were derivative works or not. The salient points are that they're copyrighted, and we don't have an explicit free license for them.

However, I don't see how they'd be derivative anyway. Tolkien wrote words, not images. A painting might be based on an author's description, in which case the artist is expressing the same idea, in a different medium, that can be drawn from the text. But ideas cannot be copyrighted, only a particular expression of an idea. A painting and a novel are inherently different expressions. TCC (talk) (contribs) 05:53, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ARGH! where's my sonic screwdriver?!?!?!

haha, exactly right--just saw the Lazarus episode last Friday. Not my favorite episode (it paled next to the Daleks in Manhattan two-parter...and speaking of that one, WHY couldn't they have fixed poor László's face?!) but still entertaining. Martha is starting to grow on me--I still like Rose better, but Martha has her own endearing qualities.

Yes, I too have noticed that those Wikipedians who prefer to post under an IP are often rather cantankerous and uncompromising--although the German bloke I've been working (and arguing) with on matters relating to Liszt and Thalberg seems to be in a much better mood today than previously. I'm hoping he stays like this. Which other IP issues were you thinking of, the weirdo on the Romani article? K. Lásztocska 01:31, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Silmarillion.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Silmarillion.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
