Not a "true sarcoma"?

I thought that it was a true sarcoma, which is defined as any tumor arising from mesodermal tissue - which includes blood vesicles. Can anyone clear this up? 24.248.9.162 16:02, 8 May 2007 (UTC)SmallCB[reply]

Jewish Men

KSHV or HHV-8

I believe that HHV-8 is officially the preferred term and it should be remembered that it also causes Castleman's and Primary Effusion Lymphoma. What do we think about using HHV-8 instead of KSHV?FelixFelix ^talk 17:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Viral cause isolated: not homosexual-specific

In the Viral Cause section, you can find the following sentence "The virus is sexually transmitted among men having sex with men ...". After reading reference 19 [1], I do not agree with that statement. Basically, what I can extract from the research is that HHV-8 is sexually transmitted. In the Discussion section, they specifically mention that "HHV-8 seroprevalence was more common among homosexual or bisexual men", but nowhere do they say it is exclusive to homosexual or bisexual men. I find that it might be misleading to exclude heterosexual intercourse from the means of transmission of the virus. I made the appropriate edit to the page (on November 6th 2010). Hello to all! I am proposing a merge from the following articles into this article:

African cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma
African lymphadenopathic Kaposi sarcoma
AIDS-associated Kaposi sarcoma
Immunosuppression-associated Kaposi sarcoma
Classic Kaposi sarcoma

This is for the following reasons:

The main article already has this information in its entirety.
AIDS-associated KS, Immunosuppression-associated appear to be more relevant in the causes section of KS rather than separate articles.
These articles are very short in length (1-2 sentences) and have not been edited significantly in 3-4 years.
This knowledge shouldn't be obscured from readers of this article by virtue of being isolated in an obscure article of 1-2 lines.
These topics may receive more attention by being mentioned in the main article.
The articles, if needs be, could be re-expanded at a later date.

Endemic versus Africa

Ref says "The latter includes classic KS in elderly men, African (endemic) KS in younger African men, women, and children, iatrogenic KS (mainly in transplant patients, but also can be due to chemotherapy and other immune suppressive therapy), and epidemic HIV/AIDS-associated KS"

Africa is just one (prominent) example of an endemic region; thus, if you want to delete one of them, delete "African". See also PMID 25375883 in which they talk about other endemic regions (Mediterranean region and China). PMID 24521144 is a systematic review that emphasizes the contrast between epidemic and endemic KS, and makes it clear that the latter is not exclusively African. — soupvector (talk) 03:05, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
