Disambiguation link notification for May 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Tebufenozide, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ethyl (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:23, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding all pages relating to genetically modified organisms, commercially produced agricultural chemicals and the companies that produce them, broadly construed, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you that sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

This is a formality, because you made a revert there and need to know about the 1RR rule. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:15, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Canada Agricultural Products Act requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Oddly, some user called GiantSnowman deleted the record of the Speedy Deletion notice, after the SD had been discontinued by a fourth party (named Natureium) a scant 11 minutes after the original SD notice. Why GiantSnowman should feel it right to vandalise my talk page is curious. I have now restored the record. Magnoffiq (talk) 23:15, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
GiantSnowman didn't vandalize your talk page, they removed a message that was added by a blocked account. This is standard practice per WP:BANREVERT and there's no issue with you restoring the message if you choose to do so.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:19, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wow!! Thanks Ponyo :) I didn't know that KnowledgeChuck had been banned. Why would he have chosen to pick on me? At random, or does he have an agenda? Where might I discover this information? Magnoffiq (talk) 23:41, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Magnoffiq, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Canadian Beef Grading Agency have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:29, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Canadian Agri-Food Research Council, is unsuitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its present form. It needs a succinct account of the organisation, its activities and why it was notable, not lists of factsheets, publications, bullet points etc. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and is ready for mainspace, please follow the confirms on the Articles for Creation template at the top of the page. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Magnoffiq. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

References

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "templates",
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in the details beside a magnifying glass followed by clicking said button,
  4. If the article is available in Pubmed Central, you have to add the pmc parameter manually -- click on "show additional fields" in the template and you will see the "pmc" field. Please add just the number and don't include "PMC".

We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:13, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war warning

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Cyclophosphamide shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Jytdog (talk) 22:42, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am not engaged in an edit war. I simply reverted the previous editor's change. Don't get your panties in a knot, please. Magnoffiq (talk) 22:55, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you are; if you continue it becomes blockable. You are fairly new here and I suggest that you be less combative. Please be patient and try to learn how this place works, instead of arguing. btw you might find User:Jytdog/How useful, to get better oriented to what we do here, how we do it, and why we do things as we do. Jytdog (talk) 23:03, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No I most definitely am not. You are projecting your own psyche onto something that really isn't there. Magnoffiq (talk) 23:07, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copying licensed material requires attribution

Hi. I see in a recent addition to Animal Health Act 1981 you included material from a webpage that is available under an Open Government Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Cylindrobasidium laeve moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Cylindrobasidium laeve, has no citations as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.

Hi @Diannaa: I knew you'd be around sooner or later. If you care to look at the source of the supposed copyright violation, you will see that it is Canadian government text. As such, it is licensed under the Template:OGL-C. I would be more than happy to fix your faulty software, so that instead of this embarrassing trouble, it would automatically sense the federal website and insert the appropriate text in the references section, like Template:Sect1911 does. I am surprised you haven't already encountered this problem and been able to fix it on your own. -- Magnoffiq (talk) 00:25, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Magnoffiq. I did look for a license, and found a link to the "Terms and conditions" page, which states that commercial use is not permitted. Wikipedia does allow commercial use, so the webpage is not compatibly licensed. I can see no evidence that the content is released under an OGL license. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk)
Hello @Diannaa:. Thank you for the reply. I'm dismayed that the canada.ca site has a more restrictive copyright policy than the open.canada.ca licence. This is not well detailed on the Template:OGL-C wikimedia site, nor for that matter the canada.ca site. I was under the impression that the OGL-C policy was similar to the OGL-UK policy. More's the pity. -- Magnoffiq (talk) 15:47, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Magnoffiq,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Onel5969 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criterion. The particular issue can be located in the notice, that is now-visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click Publish Changes button.

But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 11:56, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"open access journals" and wikipedia

Hello copyright maven @Diannaa:! I wonder if I can copy into wikimedia a figure which is published in an Open Access format, specifically from an article in Sustainability, so that I can explain a concept here on wikipedia. Magnoffiq (talk) 22:51, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel Mietchen: any help you can furnish would be appreciated. Magnoffiq (talk) 22:56, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! What you need to do is find out whether or not the particular article or image is released under a compatible license (not all open access articles are compatibly licensed! it just means you don't have to pay $$ to look at them). I have downloaded the article, and I see on the last page that the article is released under a compatible license (Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0)). (Here is the list of compatible licenses.) If it's one of the images you're looking to use, please upload it to the Commons, and use the same license, and do it like this: {{cc-by-3.0}} or choose "Attribution 3.0" from the drop-down menu. If you copy some prose from the article, you need to provide attribution. You can use {{CC-notice}} or you can do it manually, like I did here. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:26, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination.
