Disambiguation link notification for September 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Madeline (video game series), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page TLC. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Star Warped

On 23 September 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Star Warped, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that PC Gamer negatively compared video game parody Star Warped to the Star Wars Holiday Special? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Star Warped. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Star Warped), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

An educational trilogy

Hi! I've kept myself busy adding essential elements to some of your newly created articles. Next to the Living Books and Carmen Sandiego series that Brøderbund worked on, there is also a trilogy they developed and published called the "Early Learning Family" Series. This includes the games The Playroom, The Treehouse and The Backyard. These articles may be worth checking out if you'd like to make improvements. Cheers! Deltasim (talk) 15:54, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. Real life has gotten a bit busier recently so I have to pick and choose the articles to invest time into. I've never played these games before and know nothing about them so I'd need to invest more time into research before I could start. I'd rather invest that time into other endeavours. But keep telling me about awesome edutainment games that I can check out when I have free time and maybe improve. I'd love for you to check out all the work I've done to the Carmen Sandiego template. Perhaps there's something you could do there? :D

--Coin945 (talk) 10:56, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for to improve the template, but dividing into subgroups is the only method I can think of:

1. Dividing by theme (World, Region, Time and Space etc.) Failed

2. Dividing by developing company (Brøderbund, The Learning Company, Other) Trying

3. Dividing by decade (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s) Not attempted

4. Dividing by generation (1st generation "Where in the World (1985)" till "Math Detective", 2nd generation "ThinkQuick Challenge" onwards) Not attempted

If any of those don't work out for you, you may wish to divide the games and other media into different subtemplates in the style of Template:Sierra Adventure Games. Deltasim (talk) 06:50, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Deltasim:, oh I see the confusion. I didn't mean for you to work on the template itself. I meant for you to check out the individual articles within the template and see if there's anything you can do to improve those individual articles. I'm pretty sure the current arrangement of games is better than your other suggestions.--Coin945 (talk) 07:09, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Could you do another review of the article Rock-Olga and the DYK for her article. It was re-added to the list DYKs since there was some issues that needed to be taken care of. Those issues has now been taken care of.--BabbaQ (talk) 19:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sociopathy

Just so you know — the article you cited, which alleged a link between Myst and sociopathy? It was from a page of parody news, whose other stories included "Hell to Offer Free PCs, Eternal Suffering". Google Books only shows a snippet, which out of context might look somewhat persuasive, but Archive.org has the full thing. So I removed it. DS (talk) 12:25, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh thank you so much @DragonflySixtyseven: for catching that. I did wonder about it when adding it to the article, but at the time, based on the snippet I had access to, I made a judgement call that it was legit. I'm glad that you caught the error.--Coin945 (talk) 15:42, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coin945, I've just nominated this review page for speedy deletion; nominators may not open review pages for their own nominations.

I have added the comment/request you made on that page for the article not to be reviewed to the GA nominee template on the article talk page in the "note" field, which is where such requests properly go. I'm sure you'll remember this the next time you need to make a comment or request on an article you've nominated to be a GA. You'll probably also want to review the Good Article Nominations instructions page when other situations come up in the GA nomination space. When you've received the source and updated the article, please be sure to remove the message from the "note" field so no one thinks the nomination should continue to be off limits. Madeline (video game series)

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Madeline (video game series) has been completed so that fundamental issues have been dealt with.

In my opinion the article is significantly longer than it needs to be for the average reader. Successive contributors have found a reference to a title and simply added it to the article. One or two citations from the most credible sources for any topic is really sufficient; an article's quality is not based on the number of citations. I hope that you, as a major contributor, agree and can find the time to tighten the article's text.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 14:18, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Which made me wonder - wouldn't it be better if we move development info on a separate article, e.g. Development of Madeline (video game series) and provide a summary thereof in the main series article instead? (c.f. Development of Grand Theft Auto V) That way readers won't be presented with a wall of text and are offered a link to said development article in case they are interested. Important Source Question

Did you get the important source for the Madeline (video game series) article? Aoba47 (talk) 02:48, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Aoba47: I ordered it on the 6th and it was supposed to arrive by the 26th but it hasn't yet... I think the supplier screwed up. I just sent them a message and they replied that they'd send me a new one to arrive in about 15 days, but I think we've waited long enough, and its been on the GAN page for enough time for it to be snapped up by a reviewer. :) It's okay, you can go ahead with it. I may still add the info to the article once my book arrives (and after the article becomes GA).--Coin945 (talk) 12:05, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Coin945: No worries, I just wanted to check in and see how things were going with that :-). It may take a while for this article to be picked up by a reviewer since it is rather large. Aoba47 (talk) 17:00, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there

Hey, not sure if you remember me, you helped me find sources for the Titanic: Adventure Out of Time article this year and I said I would help you with other articles, long time ago. This semester's been kinda stressful for me (studying a lot) and I really didn't have time for WP, and I just did some casual edits. I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I really want to; just have to find the time, haha.

Anyway, sorry I never got back to you, I just kinda left but I didn't have much time for editing.

I've been seeing your articles and they're looking great. Awesome job! And thanks for helping me out with Titanic, really appreciate it. I hope I can still work on it more and help you as well later.

Cheers, κατάσταση 05:26, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Education Game Updates

Hi! I've been working on the Carmen Sandiego titles, by finding awards and removing a great deal of game guide and trivial material. I'm thinking about working some more on the Blaster Learning System articles and creating new ones. If there's anything else you think I should turn my attention to, I'm open to suggestions.

Recently I created an article on an educational series based on the Muppet franchise called Muppet Kids. I appreciate any content you can add to the article.

Today's articles for improvement nomination format

Hello, Coin945 -- I just visited the Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement/Nominations page and saw your nominations. I saw they each lacked a section heading and two links were red. I added the section headings and fixed the two links. Next time, if you want to nominate an article, copy the template, which you'll find in a gray-shaded box in Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement/Nominations#Nominating an article, and paste it in the right section, in the edit window (in edit mode). Then fill in the information. You have to write the name of the article twice. Then save. I think it's great you are participating in TAFI.  – Corinne (talk) 19:38, 22 January 2017 (UTC) P.S. If I don't vote "Support" for any of your nominations, don't take it personally. Sometimes I don't know whether an article meets the criteria or not, so I just don't vote. Just be patient. Other editors who know more about this than I do will come to the page. I've nominated a few articles; some were accepted (I think three support votes are needed) and some were not. Northamerica1000 knows more about this than I do.  – Corinne (talk) 19:51, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reader Rabbit teamwork

I'm quite happy with how Reader Rabbit has turned out. It certainly does look nice, professional and ready for DYK. There are still some things that can be added to the article such as music and song composition. Sources I have found so far are the following:

I shall keep an eye out for any alternate titles some of the games might have had. I shall also properly arranged the platforms that the games were released on and look for any other existing compilations. While the article itself is adequate, I can help you with any individual Reader Rabbit game articles you may wish to create. It was fun working with you in the draftspace. I hope the outcome of our efforts is a good one and I look forward to working with you on future articles. Deltasim (talk) 13:40, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's great to hear from you @Deltasim:! Yes I am very impressed with our collaboration. We make a swell team.
Ahh yes, it is nowhere near complete. But it's practically reached a stage where it offers a decent overview. Please add some info about the music if you have it. You managed to dig up some really nice art/chaarcetr design info that I wasn't able to find.
You seem to be much better at putting tables into chronological order. Would you be able to do that for the Award table again?
The alternate titles confused the heck out of me. But I think its more trouble than its worth to investigate the ins and outs of every re-release and name change, so I'm leaving it. There are bigger battles to be won.
I don't think I'll create any more Reader Rabbit game articles (I've already made around 4). But you are more than welcome to, of course! I'm working on a Carmen Sandiego game atm (Where in Europe Is Carmen Sandiego?) to take it to DYK too, so any help you could do there would be fabulous.--Coin945 (talk) 13:48, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have a feeling that once the last few touch ups are made (re: chronologicalising the awards table), we'll gave a very nice DYK nom on our hands. <3 (As part of the DYK nomination we have to do a QPQ - quid pro quo - review. Would you like to do the honours? :D).--Coin945 (talk) 13:48, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the expansion, but you used two sources that copy from Wikipedia. One was removed already and the other is Cram101, which I'm removing. You should watch for unreliable sources anyway (see WP:PUS and WP:CIRCULAR) but especially if you're aiming for DYK and hence the main page. Fences&Windows 22:26, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've finally managed to find the old official Learning Company website or what's left of it. There aren't that many accessible links, but you can make the best of everything at http://web.archive.org/web/19990204013043/http://www.shoptlc.com/newproduct.asp for not only Reader Rabbit but other products too. I'm still browsing the web for interesting information on "Reader Rabbit 3" to ensure it earns its keep. Deltasim (talk) 14:43, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks @Deltasim:! I don't think a whole bunch of info can be gleaned from that site. I didn't find much to do with game behind-the-scenes juicy development stuff or reviews, but it's a neat little site if I ever decide to improve the The Learning Company article. Also, while it would be great to save Reader Rabbit 3, I think it is also important to get that product list out of your sandbox and create a few more articles on Reader Rabbit games. Oh and also adding content to the most popular of them all: [{Reader Rabbit (video game]].--Coin945 (talk) 22:36, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I have all 12 different languages that Reader Rabbit was translated into. Whether they are more languages available, remains to be seen. I am now going to focus on researching the modern games such as the Wii and NDS platforms they were released on. I might also venture to mention some cancelled games such as "Reader Rabbit Math" I came across at http://www.gamerankings.com/ds/631593-reader-rabbit-math/index.html . I do not know if it is based on Math Ages 4-6 or Ages 6-9 or if it's original game not based on either. While I was at it, I stumbled across an interesting page at https://trademarksoncall.com/trademark/reader-rabbit-and-the-fabulous-word-factory/73492389 . The information looks like a relic, but I cannot make it out since accounts are not my forte. If there's anything else you think I can improve I'm open to suggestions. Proposed deletion of Dragonfire: The Well of Souls

The article Dragonfire: The Well of Souls has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (software) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. @Blakegripling ph:, unfortunately I don't have enough time to create the article, but I'ce done some extensive research for you and uncovered just a few sources. Maybe there's something you could pull together from this: Allgame review, Chicago Tribune article, There's always a tonne of reviews in this book but GoogleBooks only shows a snippet so you'd need to ask the Resource Exchange section of Wikipedia to send you the pages, Official Gazette of the United States Patent and Trademark Office entry (only snippet available), small entry in Toward Digital Equity: Bridging the Divide in Education, Entry in A Parent's Guide to Computer Games (no preview available), Media Review Digest, Volume 31, a "favorite" for the 1999 Christmas season, this software that provided entertainment and education "wowed" shoppers, Games 4 Girls review - is this a reliable source? Mobygames (not a reliable source in its own right but useful to find other sources), The Cutting Room Floor (not notable but interesting - deleted bits and pieces), An image of the cover--Coin945 (talk) 23:59, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reader Rabbit versions and dates

Hi! I have been looking through the games and I am finding that a few of the years for the games are not correct. That years are obviously applying to the first release of the corresponding games. It would be nice if every release had a release date to go with it. If you take a look at the table in my sandbox, you'll see how complicated the numerous releases are. I wouldn't apply that sort of table to the article. However it might be possible to include all releases and remakes of one game in a single article such as "Math Rabbit" which would have information on the game itself as well as information on "Math Rabbit Deluxe", "Reader Rabbit's Math 1", "Reader Rabbit Math Ages 4–6" and "Reader Rabbit Personalized Math Ages 4–6". It might even be interest to explain how the game evolved through it's releases and remakes.

On a side note you may wish to look into a series of educational games by FLIX Productions which include "Animated Math", "Animated Alphabet", "Animated Super VGA Memory Game", "Animated Money", "Animated Multiplication and Division" and "Animated Memory Game". Deltasim (talk) 13:39, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Deltasim: To be completely honest, this whole Reader Rabbit versions/dates thing confuses the heck out of me, so I gave up on it and instead focused my time on improving the other sections. The work you've done in your sandbox is fabulous. Would you be willing to finish it off and then add it to the article? Request to slow down again

Hi there. Looks like we're back to that yearly routine, where I ask you slow down and put a little more care into your article creations. They're getting pretty sloppy and bare-bones again. For example:

  • You didn't even manage to write a complete sentence for a WP:LEAD.
  • It appears 4 of the 5 sources used are first party - attributed to the game developer themselves, which is an issue on proving notability grounds, and because articles are generally supposed to be written according to third party accounts anyways, to avoid WP:PROMOTION and WP:NPOV issues.
  • The article is only 6 sentences long, with 4 of the 6 going unsourced.
  • The article is...extremely vague. One could probably rewrite the article in two sentences and cover all the same sentiments.

With both of these articles, you (nor anyone else) have touched them in over a month, making it hard to believe further cleanup/expansion efforts are planned. Look, I know you do a lot of good work for the website, but things like this are dropping below the threshold of what is acceptable for Wikipedia's sourcing and notability guidelines. Please consider slowing down again so we don't have to escalate into blocks again. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 15:31, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Point taken. Thank you for your check on my work. I needed that.--Coin945 (talk) 13:16, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agharta: The Hollow Earth is tough because I know many reviews exist but I can't access them. Even when Mobygames has links, only two worked in WayBackMachine and the rest didn't... *sigh*--Coin945 (talk)
  • Thank you for understanding and taking it into consideration. FYI, if you're unsure if you can come up with the sources to create an article that can meet the WP:GNG, consider making it a WP:DRAFT first. I do it commonly myself, when I'm unsure on the plausibility of an article. User:Sergecross73/Drafts documents ideas I have, in varying degrees of work done on them. Sergecross73 msg me 13:26, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Another approach, which I believe we've discussed before, is to write on the game developer or series with lists/sentences/paragraphs on each game (breaking out into sections if the paragraphs get beefy). It's really easy to stack references this way and create redirect targets without making a mess. But please do not put articles in mainspace without adequate sourcing. I am no longer watching this pageping if you'd like a response czar 17:16, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if you're asking for input on this, or if this is just a little "note to self", but my two cents is that it looks like there's a pretty good claim to notability here: NintendoLife, GamesRadar, MCVUK, PocketGamer, IGN, Kotaku all have consensus for being reliable per WP:VG/S, and BBC is an obviously huge mainstream RS as well. I imagine this article would be in pretty good shape if you chose to implement a lot of sources like this with care. Sergecross73 msg me 18:19, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Working on JumpStart

Hi! I have made a few more updates on the Reader Rabbit series, now I'm moving on to make much needed improvements to the JumpStart articles. Did you know the very first game JumpStart Kindergarten began as a DOS game? I think it should receive more or less the same treatment the Reader Rabbit articles got. Just like Reader Rabbit, JumpStart had many different flavours of topics and a number remakes and re-releases. If you are interested in working with me on those series, I would be glad. I found a few starting webpages for referencing important information:

There will of course be a lot more to research about those edutainment games. I look forward to working with you again. Deltasim (talk) 08:14, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Funnily enough I was actually thinking about taking this on as a project. I never played these games as a kid but I've recently become fascinated by then through my research of 80's/90's educational video games. I've watched various lets plays on youtube and hope to play one one of these days.
  • First thing I would suggest (after moving the article into a sandbox) is - especially for the history section - to turn each sentence into its own seperate bullet point, and check each sentence to make sure it has a reference afterwards. Then fill in the gaps with additional sources. Or, we could just nuke (delete) the entire history section and start afresh.--Coin945 (talk) 18:08, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have copied the entire main article to my sandbox. Feel free to make any edits. Another day I will examine the sources and history and see what else can be added. Happy editing. Deltasim (talk) 20:49, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the head starts you've given me. I suppose if it's not exactly your nostalgia you can take a well deserved break from it. I'll talk to you again, once I've made significantly major progress. If you want, I have created an article on another Interactive Storybook series called The Kidstory Series created by Hewlett Packard of all companies. Deltasim (talk) 19:54, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm starting to make use of the links you provided. I hope to remove the first column from the table and chronologically order the series by next week. During my research I came across this link http://images.knowledgeadventure.com/school/teachermaterials/ which is full of edutainment game manuals by Knowledge Adventure. The hyperlinks may seem inaccessible, but its easily solved by removing the extra "teachermaterials/" in the URL. You may find it useful for a number of Knowledge Adventure articles. Cheers. On to ClueFinders / Humongous Entertainment

Hello. Heard you were interested in doing other projects during our interview. I've paved an opening on the ClueFinders articles, which were previously filled with trivia, so now they can be improved much better. As for the Humongous Entertainment articles, I worked on them a while ago, but I've never found any interesting facts to go with them except one about the music composition in Pajama Sam 4. It may be simple to give them the same treatment as the Reader Rabbit series, so there's no need to copy them in a sandbox. I think JumpStart can wait for a bit until we've both had a break. I'll get researching on those articles when I have some free time. I think we're going to make a difference to them. Deltasim (talk) 21:09, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you clearing the trivia from those articles! Nice work. To be honest I never played Humungus Entertainment games as a kid so again I think it would be a bit harder to edit those articles. I've done a bit of work on the individial articles - e.g. I found some neat behind-the-scenes development stuff for... one of them. I forget which. Still it's a project I was thinking of dabbling in. But what I'd really like to do is get The Cluefinders series article up to snuff. Would you be willing to collaborate on that? (I do think JumpStart should at least be back on the Mianpage which a bunch of potential sources listed on the talk page for later reference... only because I find having things in Draftspace/Sandboxes means you lose interest over time and they start to smell. We can very easily put all the bare links on the talk page, clear up the prose a bit, then get it on the mmainpage. I think that might be a fair option).--Coin945 (talk) 04:12, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This collaboration on Cluefinders is become very fruitful. I have found extremely interesting links:

Use those to expand or cite whatever you think fitting. I'm going to continue finding out how many copies were sold throughout the years. Deltasim (talk) 14:40, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Deltasim: Which of these sources have you already added to the article? --Coin945 (talk) 16:09, 31 March 2017 (UTC) o[reply]

Just the first three sources. The first (LA Times) I used for the "Educational Goals" section, the second (Top 10 Additions) I used to reference that ClueFinders official began in January 1998 and the third (Mattel Interactive) I used to reference a TV Series in the works. The fourth source elaborates a great length about the 4th grade game. I haven't used it yet, but the Systems Requirements paragraph at the bottom notes the subsidiaries, which is a clue about the languages that products may have been translated in. I'll keep note of any other reliable sources I may find. Deltasim (talk) 17:33, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The main ClueFinders article seems almost complete. I'm going to focus on the individual articles, unless you think something else on the main article can added or improved. I stumbled across some PC Mag webpages that seem to link and categorize the games with a program called "netViz 3D". It's possible that the program was used to create some of the graphics, but a quick internet search has revealed nothing. If you'd like to investigate, the webpages are:

I should also like to find out more about the browser games, as there's no information other than their names and existence. We're doing great. Deltasim (talk) 18:25, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Deltasim: to be honest I don't think we should invest our time into the individual game articles; rather we could focus the Cluefinders efforts on the series article. When I worked on Madeline (video game series) we eventually redirected all game articles there, and that focused the improvement toward a single article and ensured no articles would wind up at AFD. I couldn't find a great deal of info/reviews on the individual games (particularly the browser ones) so I think that might be a good option. Thoughts?--Coin945 (talk) 19:39, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Expand on Carmen Sandiego

Hello. I enjoyed working on find information on various articles. Glad I was able to help you on Where in the U.S.A. Is Carmen Sandiego? (1986). I think personally there should be one infobox instead of two (the second one being in the reception section). There are two possibilities to reducing the second infobox. The first is to directly combine the information of the Deluxe version with the Original version, though that does mean likely more clutter, confusion and a longer infobox. The alternative is to attach the infoboxes together in the manner of an example in The Wonderful World of Puss 'n Boots. To make it look nice, the images would have to change to one showing both the Original and Deluxe versions together. Hope this inspires you.

I also would like to know if there are any other Carmen Sandiego articles that you think need particular attention and expansion. I would start with "Carmen Sandiego Returns" or "Where in Space". I also found out some news of a newer game application at https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2015/09/19/boston-book-publisher-houghton-mifflin-writes-new-future-for-itself/2yirwRNbC7QgDnzgxrPTpL/story.html , if it's not referring to Carmen Sandiego Returns. You may learn something from Learning Company's shopping domain at https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20011226214330/http://www.shoptlc.com:80/SubCategory.asp?CID=244 . Deltasim (talk) 10:15, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea! You can fix up those infoboxes if you feel like it. Otherwise I think they're fine how they are now. My life is a little busier now so I don't want to commit to any further projects for a bit. But if I was to work on anything next, it would probably be Where in America's Past Is Carmen Sandiego?. I'm fairly sure that the source you linked to is indeed refering to Carmen Sandiego Returns. There were two different games released, both under that name, and one of them was an app.--Coin945 (talk) 12:41, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Other Learning Company articles

Hi! You've noticed my work on Starflyers. I think it looks ready to create, minus the links. If you have a moment, a final inspection and research would be a good measure. Also I reorganised the Zoombinis article. It was a bit of a mess, but at least someone had added Educational Values to it. I did tidy the Trail series up a bit. I would recommend that The Oregon Trail (video game) be split into two separate articles since the existing one explains more about the series than the first video game. I believe at this point, the next TLC articles that need attention are the Super Solvers series, being full of bad references, lacking in reviews and other junk to deal with. If you can think of any other articles of games by TLC that need attention I'm open to your suggestions. It's nice to see that we're making progress. Deltasim (talk) 21:01, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've just created the Starflyers article, so others can work on it as well. In my Sandbox I have copied and modified some of the contents of The Oregon Trail (video game) to create a main page that covers the entire series. Feel free to adjust it and see what needs to removed or transferred from the first game article. This new main page should be a stepping stone for improving all the other articles. Blaster Learning System

Hello. I just finished editing the original Oregon Trail and created a series article. I may be able to make further changes to some of the later games so that there is as much to write about them as the older ones. I'm also starting to improve the Blaster Learning System articles. Just one opinion from you. Should I combine all math blaster games related to the first game into one article? Or do you think I ought to split them into two articles which is Math Blaster! (Also containing information on "Math Blaster Plus!" and "New Math Blaster Plus") and Math Blaster Episode I: In Search of Spot (Also containing information on "Mega Math Blaster", "Math Blaster: Ages 6–9" and "Math Blaster for 3rd Grade")? I'm attempting to give those articles the same treatment as Reader Rabbit. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Deltasim (talk) 13:55, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh nice work with The Oregon Trail series. I don't really have an opinion on the Master Blaster series. In general, if there's enough information on each of those branches to write an article, and the games in each branch are similar enough to warrant being clumped together, then run with it. Otherwise, I'd suggest redirecting all individual game articles to a series article (unless there are some clearly notable games).--Coin945 (talk) 01:48, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have been browsing around the internet and I have found out about a title that MECC also worked on called "Explore Yellowstone" (Sometimes titled "eXplore Yellowstone") created in 1996. Apparently the game is grouped together with the Trail series at http://www.mrbillsadventureland.com/reference/gametype/kidssoft.htm#T . I'm not sure if it actually is related to the series. MECC labels the game as a Science topic at http://www.mecc.co/mac--pc-products/science/ . What are your thoughts? Deltasim (talk) 09:31, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Deltasim: I don't know if that's an Oregon Trail game. I couldnt find much about it at all, let alone anything in the context of the series. FYI if you want a new project, I'm hoping to expand Microshaft Winblows 98 5* in length so it's eligible for DYK. (Or create The X-Fools). :)--Coin945 (talk) 02:35, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Operation: Eco-Nightmare moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Operation: Eco-Nightmare, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. - TheMagnificentist 11:11, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article New World (Death Note) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

REDIRECT to List of Death Note episodes: no sources, only one review, nothing else except plot

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Multiple AfD nominations

When nominating multiple articles for deletion, please take care to place templates on all the nominated pages and notify all the creators. At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aussie Nibbles, you only did so for the first article nominated. Instructions on how to format multiple nominations can be found at WP:MULTIAFD. Thanks. – Joe (talk) 12:45, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that all those pages, including the first one, were created by the same user (Allied45), and you didn't notify them about any. That strikes me as extremely discourteous – you are proposing that a substantial chunk of a fellow editor's work is deleted without even telling them! Also I'd consider using Twinkle if you're not already. It automates most of the nomination process, so you don't risk forgetting steps like transcluding in the log or notifying the creator. – Joe (talk) 13:02, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information @Joe Roe:. I am now using WP:Twinkle to ensure that every step of the WP:AFD process of completed. :)--Coin945 (talk) 09:01, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Halloween franchise

First, just because other pages are doing it doesn't mean this one should, or that all of them should. Second, here is the problem with a "ratings table" when you're dealing with films like this franchise. Most of the films listed in Rotten Tomatoes for Halloween do not have enough reviews to have a statistical significance. 30 reviews is not a lot of reviews for a film that was released in 2500 theaters, and not when there are hundreds of reviewers out there. That means, when you compare film that has a 6% ratings (Curse of Michael Myers) from 32 reviews, to a film like the first remake which had 111 reviews at 25% you cannot genuinely say that one was better than the other. If 80 more people decided to review Curse of Michael Myers, maybe they would have liked it and scored it higher and thus bringing the percentage up. I'm sure more than 32 people reviews Curse of Michael Myers at the time of release.

Which brings me to my next issue. If you look at the reviews actually listed, you'll see dates like 2000, 2014, 2007....but not too many actually from the critics at the time of release. That's because Rotten Tomatoes didn't exist before 1998, and anything before than would be hard to get an electronic copy of it. It happens, but RT isn't in the business of tracking down old reviews. They just pile into what they already have. So, if someone decides to rewatch it and write a review, it'll likely end up there. So, now you're trying to compare the reception of a film from 1988 to a film from 2005, yet the reviews from 1988 aren't even present, nor do you have enough contemporary reviews to compare it to the 100+ reviews of 2005. To create a table that compares all these films through RT scores would be doing a disservice to readers, because we would be inherently stacking the deck inaccurately in these comparisons. That's why ratings tables for film franchises that are older are not appropriate. It's more appropriate to try to find articles that discuss the historical reception of those films, since it'll be hard to actually find reviews from 1988 (not impossible, but difficult). See Friday the 13th (franchise).  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 13:49, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tajemnica Statuetki. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Tajemnica Statuetki), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

AfD

Nominating a large number of articles for deletion in a short space of time is not helpful. If you continue to nominate articles for deletion in this way, evidently having spent little time looking into them, and purely based on the state of the articles, you should expect to be blocked from editing. --Michig (talk) 09:31, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's not relevant how many articles one proposes for deletion in a given amount of time. Each nomination either stands or falls on its own merits. Proposing a large number of deletions in bad faith, or putting forward a large number of deletions that turn out to be ill-conceived could be grounds for a complaint, but there is nothing wrong with tackling article cleanup on a big scale by rapidly reviewing and proposing deletion of articles that don't meet standards. --Srleffler (talk) 19:02, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
34 AfD discussions started in little over an hour and a half, all with pretty much the same 'no sources' argument, several of which already had sources, several others where sources are trivially easy to find, no consideration apparently given to merging or redirecting before taking to AfD. This has created a hell of a lot of work for other people. --Michig (talk) 19:12, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and he irritated a lot of the Video Games WikiProject by doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I wasn't as bothered, but many were. Coin, you're free to your personal philosophies in a general sense, but that's not going to help you if you're irritating a majority at ANI, or the wrong Admin. I'm not threatening action, I'm just advising you to listen to the complaints before you get blocked by someone else. Sergecross73 msg me 20:03, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you everyone for your opinions. This has been a fruitful discussion, and has given me much to think about. As stated by Srleffler, this constitutes article cleanup rather than bad faith deletions. In fact, the vast majority of nominated articles were created by myself at some point or another, and seeing how little they've been expanded after all this time leads me to believe that they deserve a deletion discussion. I look forward to seeing the outcomes of these interesting AFDs. :D--Coin945 (talk) 05:58, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Operation: Eco-Nightmare

Hello, Coin945. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Operation: Eco-Nightmare".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 06:01, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article G.Nius has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:N. Non-noteable video game lacking significant coverage in reliable secondary sources.

Speedy deletion nomination of Top Secret (magazine)

Hello Coin945,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Top Secret (magazine) for deletion, because it seems to be an article that was previously deleted by a consensus decision.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Deletion discussion about Top Secret (magazine)

Hello, Coin945,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Top Secret (magazine) should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Top Secret (magazine) .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Late Shift requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. >Cæsey 04:08, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Good game app.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Good game app.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:12, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Horrible Science of Submarines has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NEVENT. Was obviously written to promote the exhibition.

Moving Cluedo franchise content to franchise article.

Hi. I see you did this without a discussion. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I seem to recall about a decade ago when I first started working on the Cluedo page, that there had been some nominations to merge such sections into one article. I'm not sure if the community position on this has changed or not, nor what your experience with other game franchises has been as an editor. Monopoly is one such franchise that has been well maintained and regulated from which I have derived my cues for improving the Cluedo article. That said, I'm happy to assist in this direction so long as it's not going to all be undone by committee in the future. --Closettrekker (talk) 19:10, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Closettrekker:, as Cluedo is essentially a franchise than began with a boardgame (encompassing games, video games, a film, a musical, a TV series, a book series etc.), it doesn't make sense to cram all of that into a "Cluedo" article. By having an overview article on the franchise, the Cluedo article can now focus on the board game, creating a more defined and streamlines approach. The franchise article may be rudimentary, but if editing continues with these article boundaries in mind, it's going to be a great way to house all the content on this franchise on Wikipedia. P.S. I was WP:BOLD in my edits, and if there is opposition, it can be discussed. :)--Coin945 (talk) 04:18, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. Like I said, I agree with the premise. I'm happy to pursue this direction with you, as it can always be merged back if the consensus is to do so. At one point I ran into several editors who were opposed to expanding the number of pages within Wikipedia unnecessarily. Perhaps that mentality has changed. I see there's been a lot of vandalism on the page since I last visited, which can make Wikipedia trying as well. That said -- onward and upward.--Closettrekker (talk) 18:51, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cryo Interactive template

Hey! I noticed that you moved the Cryo adventures template to an overall Cryo template. The thing is, Cryo did a lot more than just adventure games, and a full template that covered all of its games would be far too large to be viable. I made the Cryo adventures template specifically to avoid that issue, and I feel like keeping the scope down to adventures will be best for organizational purposes. If you don't have any objections, I'll move the template back to its original title. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 01:14, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JimmyBlackwing: All good. I was confused because the template wording includes the term "Cryo Interactive", when the content is only its adventure games. But your argument makes sense and I'll trust your judgement. :)--Coin945 (talk) 04:35, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Orphaned non-free image File:Carmen Sandiego character depictions.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Carmen Sandiego character depictions.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:28, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests

Just a friendly reminder that "you may have up to two open requests at any one time" so "every request can have a fair chance of being fulfilled within a reasonable period". Currently, you have seven requests open, which is more than the limit of two. Please cut them down to two. You also have one article repeated twice. Aoba47 (talk) 23:03, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. Thanks Aoba47 for getting to this so quickly. So, yes Coin945, you can only have two requests at a time. Please remove any extra requests and leave behind the ones you want the most help on. PopularOutcasttalk2me! 03:47, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I do look forward to reading your articles when they are copy-edited though. Carmen Sandiego's Great Chase Through Time may be one of my favorite games too; I played it so much when I was younger. And it is an easy thing to miss on the request page. I missed it when I first made requests too lol. Aoba47 (talk) 04:10, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up. Just throwing it out there, could I ask another user to make requests to the page on my behalf, or is that a no-no?--Coin945 (talk) 05:47, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is okay, though I would recommend asking at the talk page first just to make sure. I would offer to do some requests on your behalf, but I have already met my two request limit. Aoba47 (talk) 05:54, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Asking an uninvolved editor to make the request on your behalf seems like gaming the system to me. The goal of the limit is to give all editors a fair chance to submit requests and have them edited in a timely manner. If you and some helpers insert a long list of articles, that fairness is decreased. If other editors have been significantly involved in improving an article, it would be reasonable for them to make a request. – Jonesey95 (talk) 08:39, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of What The Fuck France?

Hello Coin945,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged What The Fuck France? for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Wouldn't it make more sense to create an article about Paul Taylor (comedian), if he or his creation is notable? Phil Bridger (talk) 19:00, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Britishfinance: Hi, I'm a little bit confused as to why this was speedy deleted, due to the numerous reliable sources out there talking about the series. If anything, it should be taken to AFD in order to have a more fruitful discussion with the larger community.--Coin945 (talk) 23:10, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Coin945 (and @Phil Bridger:); I don't think the channel, as presented, meets notability; however, perhaps Phil's idea of an article on Paul himself (who much of the channel-article was about) could be a better route, and could incorporate a section on his channel? I was not familiar with Paul so I can't tell whether he would be notable as a BLP, but it seems like a good idea. In a way, it would be hard to argue that his channel was notable but he wasn't, which means that he is the better subject. Britishfinance (talk) 00:45, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Britishfinance: I appreciate your comments but I would disagree. If you would like to write an article on the man behind the series, be my guest. But that's not an argument for speedy deletion.

Here's just a small sample of what's out there (this is from a 5 second Google search): --Coin945 (talk) 01:06, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Piposh (2019 video game), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Israeli (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Where in North Dakota is Carmen Sandiego?

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Where in North Dakota is Carmen Sandiego? has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

You'll notice as you look through the article I have added several [clarification needed] tags where I believe further information, if you have it, is required.

I don't review Good Article candidates but there are several other matters I believe also need to be clarified (again if you can) before you submit it for GA consideration.

1. Individuals who worked on the programme demo'ed it at a major mall when it was published. It's hard to believe copies were not available for sale then. Otherwise, there was not much point in doing the demos. Yet apparently there is no proof any copies were ever sold in retail stores.
2. The public could purchase the programme from Broderbund Software-Direct. Presumably this would have been a retail version, not the one with all the educational materials for teachers? Yet later in the article it says that only "10 prototype retail copies were ever produced, which were all mailed to educators involved in the project". One of them was later given to the Video Game History Foundation. So what was Broderbund selling to the public? If only 5000 copies were produced for schools, and they were all sold, were they all sold to schools (i.e. roughly ten per school as the article says, which seems a lot) or were some of them sold to the public?
3. Broderbund did not produce a version of Carmen for any other state yet in the Contemporary Review section it says that the title was "picked up" by other states. When I tried to check citation ":9" I could only see two paragraphs so could not resolve this apparent contradiction.

I hope this is useful.

Best of luck moving forward,

20:57, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

  • @Twofingered Typist: Thanks for all your help copyediting this article. I greatly appreciate it! I think a recurring challenge with this article is that while many sources do exist, they cover specific part's of the game's history which leave other aspects - such as how many copies were sold and how - a bit vague. Sometimes sources told me conflicting things which is a little frustrating. Thank you for your comments. I'm inspired to keep refining the article. :)--Coin945 (talk) 22:39, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
