Obituary

There is an obituary for Twofingered Typist in The Picton Gazette. He will be missed. Cabayi (talk) 14:27, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is horrible news and a huge loss for the GOCE, and by extension, for the project as a whole. RIP. Vaticidalprophet 14:29, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Awful news. Twofingered Typist was a talented copyeditor and always cheerfully willing to be helpful even on tough articles. He did a wonderful job on Arthur de Gobineau, which I thought was mostly a hopeless case. He will be missed. Ganesha811 (talk) 14:46, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A terrible shock. May he rest in peace. Miniapolis 15:24, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certain it's too late to write an obit for The Signpost. We're about 3 hours from deadline. But please feel free to organize a jointly written obit for a month from now. Smallbones(smalltalk) 16:55, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Smallbones, what's the deadline for the next Signpost? Miniapolis 00:10, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gosh, what rotten news. My condolences to his family and friends, and all Wikipedians whose lives he touched. Thanks for posting, Cabayl. :( Best regards, Baffle☿gab 17:28, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The pages where I've seen Twofingered Typist in the edit history are well written and have that extra touch of care and passion that makes Wikipedia, well, Wikipedia. He will be missed greatly. Sennecaster (Chat) 18:14, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • For those who would like to contribute to an obituary in The Signpost I'll suggest you start editing at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2021. There are a few lines there already. The next Signpost issue is December 28. Just before Christmas I'll take the text from Deceased Wikipedians, put it in a proposed article, format it in our usual way, and do a bit of fact checking and copy editing. You can continue to work on it through the 26th.
I'll just let everybody know that I consider writing obits the most difficult task in journalism. Everybody is upset, and they have something that they just have to say. So please be kind to each other as you write and edit. Try to stay factual - not too flowery, but of course there may be an emotional side as well. All the best, Smallbones(smalltalk) 01:01, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

() Just a note to say Twofingered Typist's obituary was published in The Signpost in late January. Thanks to all who contributed to it. Best regards, Baffle☿gab 03:28, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tributes and condolences

The WP:GOCE will be much the poorer for your absence, TT. Miniapolis 21:07, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. --TheSandDoctor Talk 02:14, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How did he die? This all feels so very sudden. It was only a few months ago that we were discussing editing a page, and now he's gone. I will miss his insights and understanding feedback, although I have not had the privilege to know him as well as those close to him. He will be missed. Tyrone Madera (talk) 19:13, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What sad news to hear about. He was a prolific and fastidious member of the Guild of Copy Editors, and will be sorely missed. Tdslk (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I learned about this just now. He was by far a cornerstone of this community. I routinely looked to him for guidance on anything copyediting related and was always thrilled when he picked up a GOCE request of mine because I knew it would be top class. My condolences to all who knew him. This is a truly sad day for the project. Rest In Peace, Twofingered Typist. You will be greatly missed. --TheSandDoctor Talk 02:14, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Twofingered Typist was the backbone of the guild of copy-editors. His copy-editing always amazed me. He helped me guide through my first GA and first FA. A huge, huge loss for the entire Wikipedia community. – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 13:33, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I just saw this, and I'm really sorry to see it. I'd seen TT around in some of the copyedit areas, and his work was top notch. This is a huge loss to the project, and he won't be replaced. I offer my condolences and prayers to all his family and friends. We were proud and honored to have his services for all these years. — Ched (talk) 18:16, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Like others, I'm very sorry to hear this. Twofingered Typist was a really good copy editor, and he helped copyedit several of my current FAs before I nominated them. He made all of these articles much better and was one of the best GOCE coordinators out there. It was a pleasure working with him, and I have learned a lot from his edits. • Oh no! Just heard about this :( Twofingered Typist was one of the most dedicated volunteers at GOCE and contributed immensely to clear and readable prose on Wikipedia. (t · c) buidhe 18:50, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have only just learnt of the sad news of TT's passing. His copy-editing of many of the articles I nominated at GOCE helped me greatly when I further nominated them for review. He was a tremendous editor, whom everyone on Wikipedia will miss greatly. MWright96 (talk) 14:51, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Here to give my condolences as TT helped contribute several times throughout the year to achieving my first FA. While this was my only experience with him, his work was nonetheless much appreciated. He will be missed. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 23:22, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Late on this, but this is a huge loss for the project. As someone who has done multiple GA reviews of articles copyedited by him, I can confirm he was a great copyeditor and very proficient at writing. Rest in peace man, Link20XX (talk) 05:22, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • What a greatly positive force he was to Wikipedia and the GOCE he was. As a member of the guild, TT and his work helped me to continue and improve my rookie copy-editing skills (esp. the Milli (rapper) article) — never given up since then. His commitment to his coordination job proved that he was the GOCE to the point that the enwiki CE field just won't be the same now that he's gone. :( Biggest condolences to his family and friends. –beetricks ~ 💬 · ✉️ 18:01, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Profound respect for the many (many (many)) valuable copyedits you have done to articles, small and big, easy or complicated. As I look through my history, I see that you've copyedited my requested articles List of accolades received by Interstellar and List of colonial buildings in Medan, maybe more. Thank you. So much. I'll be putting the former to FLC soon, and it won't be possible without you. RIP. GeraldWL 13:30, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Terrible, just terrible news to hear. He copyedited my first TFA, and I always kept his name in mind after the fact because of his stellar job of doing so. I didn't have too much interaction with him, but seeing his name around always put a smile on my face knowing that whatever project he was up should be glad to have his eyes. His obituary was charming, and may his real-world contributions never be forgotten. You and your legacy will be missed, and forever hunt and peck. Panini!🥪 20:10, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
