Hello

I was at the English Pegasus talk page, and I could help you if you want. I'm not that great with French (I take it in school) but I could try anyways. suzumebachi٭secret 17:32, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok =) I'm not good in english, I've learn it at school too. The french article is now recognised as a "Good article" and I'm trying to write "Quality article", If you have english books about the Pegasus myth, it could help me, just the name of the books, I will translate it myself ^_^ --Tsaag Valren (talk) 13:38, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good article? Wow. Here in the English Wikipedia, it's a "Start Class"! I had a book, but I forgot its name, but I think I can get back to you once I can visit the library. suzumebachi٭secret 01:16, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trait du Nord

Hi Tsaag! I have a quick question about one of the sources you use in the French Trait du Nord article: Who writes the information at this blog? In general, blogs are not considered to be reliable sources on the English WP. However, if they are written by a noted expert in the field (someone who has written journal articles, books, or is a major player in the breed), exceptions can be made.

I'm working on transferring some of the information from your sandbox to the main page, in preparation for a good article review at some point in the future, and possibly a did you know mention on the front page. So far, I haven't been transferring information that was sourced to the blog, because I didn't want to have to just take it out later. If you would let me know on that, and perhaps keep an eye on the article to make sure I'm not accidentally misrepresenting sources, it would be fantastic. Thanks! Dana boomer (talk) 18:18, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! I've finished transferring the information over into the main article, and have also finished re-writing and expanding the lead. If you have a bit, could you please check through the article to make sure that I haven't misrepresented any sources, or left any information unsourced as I removed references considered unreliable by the English WP? Also, there are a few links that had gone dead in the sandbox - I didn't transfer these references or the information they were supporting over to the main article, but if you could find new links I would love to be able to do that! Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 12:47, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

French breed names

Tsaag, would you want to comment on Template:Horse breeds of France? JLAN is doing some good work putting in some new articles, but he is naming them in French, not English. For example Cheval d'Auvergne, as opposed to Auvergne horse. Per WP:USEENGLISH, I think we need to have the English language version unless there's a really good reason not to. So curious if these are OK to put into English (otherwise, all the breeds begin with "cheval" which is weird in English). There ARE good reasons for some exceptions; I understand a breed like Selle Français has to stay in French, even English speakers call it that, but where "cheval" is in the name, should we not simply say "horse" over here in English wikipedia? Fr. wiki is not consistent on this, but I for one have no problem with, say, the American Saddlebred being called the cheval de selle américain on Fr wiki. Thoughts? Or, if you'd prefer, comment at Template talk:Horse breeds of France. I'd welcome your views, and as JLAN and I are apt to soon be spatting about this, your input may be very helpful. Montanabw(talk) 00:04, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In principle, I agree. The names in the template are taken from two sources, the FAO's DAD-IS database and Mason's directory. Both are English-language sources. Many of these breeds, especially the extinct ones, are likely to have received little attention in English-language works, and thus to be without an accepted "English name". Unless they have such a name, the French one will have to be used per WP:USEENGLISH, as making up an English name would be original research. I will edit the template to reflect the articles you moved; in future, please regard any contemplated move as potentially contentious and list it at Requested Moves in the ordinary way, so that other editors can comment. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:02, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think that it's not OR to say "cheval" instead of "horse" but if you want to take every move to the drama board, I'll respect that and do so. Montanabw(talk) 19:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Carrossier normand

OK, Tsaag, I am confused (not for the first time!). You wrote on the project talk page "Euuuuh... Norman Cob = Carrossier normand", and thank you. But when I look at fr:Cob normand, I read "Le cob normand est issu de l'ancienne race du carrossier normand"; and when I look at the Cob Normand site, I see this quote from Quittet & Richard: "le carrossier normand était peut-être le meilleur cheval d'attelage du monde", and later that the Norman cob "... est issu des mêmes sources génétiques que ce carrossier normand". I'm just wondering if there are reliable sources that consider the carrossier a separate (and lost) breed? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:02, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Castillonnais

Hi Amelie! For the past few days, I've been working on translating Castillonnais, and have pretty much finished with what I can do. If you have time, would you mind taking a look over the article to see if there's anything I missed, or improperly translated? I'm planning to nominate the article for WP:DYK tonight, and then for GAN when you've had a chance to look it over. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 15:21, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My next project has been Charolais horse, which I have now finished translating. Would you mind taking a look to make sure I put all the sources in the right spots and didn't miss anything too important? I plan to put this up for DYK and GAN in the next few days, the latter after you have had a chance to take a look. In other news, Castillonnais has been accepted for WP:DYK and should be appearing on the front page in that spot in the next couple of days. I have also nominated it for Good Article status. Dana boomer (talk) 01:52, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Trait du Nord

Hi Amelie! Just a note that I've put Trait du Nord up for Featured Article status (the review can be found at WP:Featured article candidates/Trait du Nord/archive1). I've added you as a co-nominator on it - you don't have to do anything, it's just my way of thanking you for all of the work that you've done on the article, and it will get you listed on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations. In other news, Boulonnais horse is going to be the next article that I put up for peer review and featured article status, so if you have any further comments at this point, I'd love to see them. Also, do you have time to look through Charolais horse to make sure I translated everything properly? As an update, Castillonnais is now a Good Article!!! Thank you so much for all of your work on these breeds - it's great to see some of the English WP's rather useless stubs being expanded through the translation of your work! Dana boomer (talk) 14:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Laetitia Bataille has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. -- Patchy1 03:49, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Source reliability

Hello again! I've been looking at some more of the French breed articles, and see, in several places, references to a website called Le Saboteur. I can't find information on what makes this site reliable on en.wp, though. Is it a magazine? It looks like one woman wrote most of the articles, such as that referenced in the French version of the Landais pony article. Several other articles use articles from this source, so I would like to verify the reliability with regards to en.wp policies before I bother to translate all the material! Thanks in advance, and for all of your help so far, Dana boomer (talk) 02:39, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, yes, I think you can remove... for my first articles there was mistakes withe reliability of sources ;) --Tsaag Valren (talk) 10:47, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks! I know the feeling - there are definitely some of my earlier efforts at article writing and sourcing that I now look back at and cringe :) Dana boomer (talk) 12:20, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article question

Hi again! I'm hoping you can help me with a vague memory I have of a conversation we held a while ago (a year or two?). You mentioned that there was going to be a new book coming out, I believe on one of the breeds of French draft horses (Auxois? Comtois?), and suggested that I wait to translate the article until the new book had been published and integrated into the French language article. Would you happen to remember which breed we were discussing in this conversation, and whether the publication/integration has happened yet? I'm starting to look at translating those two articles (Auxois and Comtois), and wanted to check with you regarding this new book first. Thanks, Dana boomer (talk) 15:58, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick response! I'll leave Comtois and Auvergne alone for now, to avoid having to translate them twice, and work on the others...thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to try to get the remainder of the French breed articles translated by the end of the year - let's see how close I come! Dana boomer (talk) 23:49, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And...Auxois is now translated! If you have the time, would you mind taking a look and seeing if there's anything I missed/translated wrong? I'm going to put it up for a Good Article review soon. Dana boomer (talk) 22:54, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Poitevin horse

The good article review has been done for Poitevin horse, and the reviewer has a question. The article refers to mule breeding began being concentrated in ateliers (workshops), which were relatively expensive for breeders. Do you have more information on these ateliers? Were they special buildings, or just concentrated areas of breeding? What was special about them? Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 00:46, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merens horse

Hi again :) I've finished my translation of the Merens horse article! If you wouldn't mind taking a look? It's longer than the others I've done, so more opportunity for mistakes :) There are a couple of book/journal articles that don't have page numbers - do you have access to these? If you would like me to, I can post specific references I'm looking for on the talk page. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 02:15, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Norman Cob at FAC

Me again :) Norman Cob is now undergoing a featured article candidacy (which can be seen at WP:Featured article candidates/Norman Cob/archive1). A reviewer has asked if we have any sources that give specific numbers for how many Norman Cobs are used for meat versus other uses. Have you seen anything like this in your research? Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 12:44, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tsaag, that article also has a reviewer asking some questions about French language syntax in the references too, we need you to check that for us, can you?? Montanabw(talk) 23:58, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've managed to address the reference issues, unless you have further comments. At this point, I think the first question (about numbers) is the only outstanding issue, although the reviewer has supported regardless. Thanks, Dana boomer (talk) 00:39, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Poitevin horse

Hi Amelie! I just wanted to let you know that Poitevin horse is now up for a featured article candidacy (which can be found at WP:Featured article candidates/Poitevin horse/archive1. A reviewer has a couple of questions that I haven't been able to find answers for.

  • When population numbers fell to the lowest seen in the early 1990s, do we know what the exact numbers were? How many mares and stallions?
  • Do we know where the stud farms in Sweden and the US are located, specifically?

Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 12:00, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the quick replies! Another question: You say that the stallion Quebec should not have an accent due to registry rules, but in the French Wikipedia version, the name does have an accent? Which is correct for the English Wikipedia? Dana boomer (talk) 11:55, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More translation work...

I've just finished translating Anglo-Norman horse from your wonderful French article. Would you have the time to take a look and see if there is anything I've missed/mis-translated? I need to do a bit more work on cleanup, and then I plan to put it up for a good article nomination. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 19:08, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And now I've finished up translation work on Selle Francais, if you wouldn't mind taking a look. I still need to expand the lead, but all of the translated material is there. Thanks for your check on Anglo-Norman horse, I've finished cleanup and nominated it for good article review. Dana boomer (talk) 21:00, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Source question

Hi Amelie - Can you tell me what the source is for the first two sentences of the Origine section of the fr:Anglo-normand (cheval) article? It's not the Hendricks book, which is the next successive reference, and I need the correct reference for the good article review. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 21:20, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, when was the vote by Norman breeders on the reopening of the Anglo-Norman studbook? Dana boomer (talk) 21:31, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the source. Any ideas on the second question (the date (or even the year?) of the vote on the studbook?) Dana boomer (talk) 18:13, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are doing such excellent work on the French WP that I can't keep up with you :) I think a while ago you told us that you were going to be working on Nonius horse, and I see it is now a good article on the French WP. I've just done some expansion on the English version, and I'm hoping that you could take a look and see if there is anything major missing from the English version that you have in the French version. I'd like to put it up for GA here soon. Also, I don't know if you work on equestrians at all, but Anky van Grunsven and Ulla Salzgeber just became good articles here. Thanks, Dana boomer (talk) 21:28, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just put your links in as you have them in your article, then I'll do a find and replace to fix the parameters so they appear properly in English. I think that's the only logical way to do it because we have to have references and not speaking French, I don't know where to put them and you will... Adding pictures

Hi, I see that you are in WikiProject Equine too and that you make a lot of uploads. ☺ I created and have been working on Black Allan (horse), the article for the first Tennessee Walking Horse, but I don't have any pictures. I found some of him on Google Images by searching "black allan horse", and I know that they are in the public domain and we can use them, because he died in 1910. The problem is I don't know how to get them uploaded to Commons. I know how to upload my own pictures, but not Google pictures. Can you please tell me how to upload from Google images? I'm using a phone, so I think that may be keeping me from seeing the links to follow or something. Also, I don't have email and don't know if you have to have it to upload. (Or if it's not too much to ask, could you please upload them for me?) Thanks! White Arabian mare (Neigh) 01:12, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. For the copyright problem, the important is not the death date of the horse, but the death date of the photographer ( + 70 years...) and for this, I don't have the information... If photoghrapher died more than 70 years ago its PD. --Tsaag Valren (talk) 10:19, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find who took the photo (not written on either of them-all they say is the name of the horse, his owner and where the photo was taken). The only way I know of to see if the image is under copyright is by putting up a request images tag on the talk page, and then searching through its filter. On Google, I keep seeing, "these images may be under copyright"... 😛 ADD: I requested images using the {{reqphoto}} template. I searched for some with the free search tool, and couldn't find anything. Maybe somebody else will have better luck, or I'll see if I can find out when the photographer died. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 14:09, 14 October 2015 (UTC)White Arabian mare[reply]

If the image was "published" (in a book or newspaper, for example) prior to 1923, it's also PD. Ping me with a link to an image if you find one, I might be able to figure it out. Montanabw(talk) 15:44, 15 October 2015 (UTC)3[reply]

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

Non-notable individual, insufficient in-depth, third-party references.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
