WikiProject C-SPAN?

Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -

I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.

If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?

The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):

  • Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
  • Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
  • Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
  • Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
  • What else?

I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...

...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.

Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.

Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.

KConWiki (talk) 02:11, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

From time to time I do enjoy watching C-SPAN, as I can be a policy wonk at times. I have linked to C-SPAN videos in the past for use as reliable sources, but beyond that what else will this Wikiproject seek to achieve?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 02:55, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Jose Antonio Vargas". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 10 April 2013.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Women's history editathon

Hey - Sorry for the late notice, but since you have yourself tagged as living in the Bay Area, I thought you might appreciate notification that we’re having an event Saturday! It’ll be held at Hoyt Hall, an all-women's house of the Berkeley Student Cooperative from 3 to 6 pm tomorrow. The main event page is here. Anyone is welcome to show up, but we’re expecting a significant number of people to come who have literally never edited Wikipedia before. If you’re an experienced Wikipedian who would be able to provide useful help to some of the newbies, your presence would be especially appreciated (and it might be a good idea for you to show up at 2 or 2:30 instead of three. Thanks, Kevin Gorman (talk) 02:06, 6 April 2013 (UTC) I’m AWB’ing this message to all Wikipedians who have tagged themselves in the bay area. I’m sorry if the message isn’t of interest to you; feel free to delete it. I’ll be unlikely to send future messages in a similar way, but if really don’t want to receive future messages of this sort, please let me know.

Request for mediation rejected

The request for formal mediation concerning Jose Antonio Vargas, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. To read an explanation by the Mediation Committee for the rejection of this request, see the mediation request page, which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time. Please direct questions relating to this request to the Chairman of the Committee, or to the mailing list. For more information on forms of dispute resolution, other than formal mediation, that are available, see Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.

not really sure why the concept on an index is so hard to grasp, or why a series of articles cant be linked to an index, I dont understand why everyone is hell bent on de linking everything. but I see a certain communist is bent on furthering his hate america first agenda, by deleting everything he can, on any made up excuse he can. the insidious nature of these deletions has finally proven to me that wikipeda is nothing mor than a communist propagand machine. Thank you for your comments Brian in denver. Have you read the second paragraph of WP:Galleries, which is the Wikipedia rule I am proceeding in accordance with? As I told you some time ago, this material is great, but it is actually supposed to be on *Commons*, not *English Wikipedia*. There, other people who do not read English, amongst others, can access it more easily. Buckshot06 (talk) 22:18, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

WP:PORNBIO

Hi RightCowLeftCoast, per your vote in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mia Smiles‎, my rationale was "She appears to fail WP:PORNBIO as she was never nominated for an individual award" as WP:PORNBIO says (stress mine): "Has won a well-known and significant industry award, or has been nominated for such an award several times. Nominations and awards in scene-related and ensemble categories are excluded from consideration.". If I missed an AVN Award in a non-scene-related/ensamble category please add it to the article, I'll consequently withdraw my nomination for deletion. My best, Cavarrone (talk) 08:38, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, RightCowLeftCoast. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mia Smiles.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Consensus can change, and I for one think that this current restriction in PORNBIO is too restrictive. From what I've read so far on the history of changes to PORNBIO over time, it's apparent to me that those changes were made by some, in part, to overly restrict the number of articles on Wikipedia that dealt with pornography, which isn't a particularly fair thing to do IMHO. Guy1890 (talk) 20:00, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Surely it can change, and in general terms I consider some aspects of PORNBIO too restrictive (even if probably not the same aspects you're referring). What is patently wrong is that Mia Smiles currently meets the current PORNBIO award criterium as said by RightCowLeftCoast in the related AfD, except he's referring to an award not yet added to the article. Hey RightCowLeftCoast, could you clarify your vote? Cavarrone (talk) 21:21, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

I noticed that the section on Bataan had a "expansion needed" tag in it, which is why I didn't assess it as B-class. Otherwise the article looks fine to me. You can ask for help at the assessment request page or the MILHIST talk page if you need additional help. Wild Wolf (talk) 15:25, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

I agree, I put the tag there. I am not saying that the article should have been rated B class, but that B2 should have been marked No, and B1 should have been marked yes; therefore the article would be C class. As all the content that is presently there is well cited, but that the coverage even if what is there is accurate to the reliable sources provided.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:05, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Metaforic article idea for improved Notability - seeking feedback

01:17, 5 June 2013 LFaraone (talk | contribs) deleted page Metaforic (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Metaforic (2nd nomination))

I appreciate the attention LFaraone and yourself gave to deleting the above submission.

I am charged with pursuing the discovery and revelation of sufficient Notability to earn Metaforic inclusion.

It is not my intent to dispute, only to ask if a particular item might work, in addition to the BBC, as independent, reliable citation of notability. Rather than re-open the article, I thought maybe I could get a quick estimation of whether this newly-found source would make it worthwhile to re-open the article and its discussion. Since you are familiar with the article, I am placing the request here. If I have erred, please forgive my intrusion and guide me elsewhere.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

The source below contains several whitepapers to which metaforic contributed, as well as passing profiles and list mentions, etc. Would this be a notable source, and would this, in concert with the BBC, support inclusion? Murder article

Hi, I saw your post at requests for undeletion. I am willing to userfy the article if you want at any time, but to get it restored you'll have to go to DRV since the discussion had a clear consensus. You might find DRV to be amenable to a relist, since there has been a lot of coverage. We sometimes get these odd situations, (like here, for example) when the consensus on the Afd is clear but the community rejects the outcome of the discussion. This might be one of them, you never know. Mark Arsten (talk) 21:44, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

The article I was trying to think of was Racial hoax. Thanks for organizing the SDCC meetup! Jim1138 (talk) 04:50, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thankful that you were able to answer this at the meetup and so well. It was pretty horrifying to realize what I was asking you. And it might take years if I ever recover. I first heard this theory on Through the Wormhole in a segment titled "Is There A Superior Race?": the Linda Gottfredson video is not archived but here are the subtitles. Then it surfaced on Rachel Maddow, at 8:00 to about 9:30, Jason Richwine speaking for the American Enterprise Institute, and working for the Heritage Foundation against immigration reform. Richwine was, more or less precisely, reporting Gottfredson's Mainstream Science on Intelligence. If possible, I would like to know if you have watched the video clip of General Wesley Clark describing a memo shortly after 9/11 on attacking seven middle eastern countries which includes Iraq?

Secondly, I noticed that Richard Clarke's thoughts concerning the Bush administration prior intent to invade Iraq has also been removed from the page - even though it is consistent with General Clark's account. I would appreciate it if you can add Richard Clarke's statement back. The thing is that both of these men have served in some official capacity and their accounts completely contradict the discourse on the Wikipedia page. For this reason, it is worth noting that not a single mainstream media (CNN, ABC, FOX, NBC, CBC, etc) have reported on General Clark's account. I sent them a press release regarding this given his stature as a person who has served as a director on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as the Supreme NATO Commander, surely they must be interested but no response. It seems that if the mainstream media does not report these things, then Wikipedia cannot mention any such thing in the lead section. So Wikipedia basically is an online representation of the mainstream media.

I'm not sure exactly what to do but I hope for your understanding.

Edward Soriano A-class Review

G'day, I've posted a few comments at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Edward Soriano. As you haven't yet responded, I made a few adjustments myself, but I wasn't able to deal with some of the content-related issues. If you are free, can you please return to the review and provide an update of how you are going? Given that the review has been open for two months, it is currently being considered for closing, but if you can demonstrate progress it may be able to remain open. Cheers, AustralianRupert (talk) 23:36, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

More Jim DeMint

Hi again RightCowLeftCoast. Back in June I think it was you who reviewed a draft section I wrote for the Jim DeMint article, and I was wondering if you might be willing to take a look at another new section I've written. I posted this on the talk page about a week ago but haven't had any editors respond. My guess is that there aren't many active editors watching this article.

Anyhow, if you wanted to take a look I have rewritten the Political positions section, which is currently tagged saying that it needs work. I've added my draft to the talk page. If you're not available that's fine too, just let me know and I'll look for other editors to review. Thanks! Thurmant (talk) 20:39, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Meetup in San Diego?

Hi RightCowLeftCoast, I am Sebastian Wallroth from Berlin, Germany, board member of Wikimedia Deutschland. I am visiting San Diego from February 3rd to February 8th, happily invited to a wedding. I would like to meet Wikipedians. Is there a chance for a Wiki Meetup in San Diego during the first week in February? --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 15:27, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

I have been less active recently, but I will see who is interested at the meetup page.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:39, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
