Thank you for fixing links to Macbeth (opera), but hundreds are left. Will you fix those as well soon? I think in case of a move to a new name without a redirect, the links should be fixed first, before the move leads to nonsense in hundreds of cases. I'd like to hope that's all an April Fool's joke, but the pedantic name change seems to be planned to stay, sigh. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like this has been handled by others. And the reason I did things the way I did is that there is a process to ensure links to disambiguation pages get fixed whereas nothing would prevent everyone from just losing interest if that step isn't done. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:06, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Roxbury Mall

Can you restore all deleted revisions of page Roxbury Mall, then add the {{R with history}} tag to the redirect page. (talk) 22:38, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see the point. Take this to WP:REFUND if you really insist, but there's nothing there but a single sentence in the PROD-deleted version and I don't consider myself to have the authority to unilaterally undelete the AfD-deleted version. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:40, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:The Crimean slave trade

Hello, Pppery! I noticed you removed the deletion request from Draft:The Crimean slave trade with the motivation: "Sorry, I don't see any specific speedy deletion criterion this meets. Conduct allegations are not a reason for speedy deletion - take them up in the appropriate venues for them", so I was wondering if I might ask you: what would be the appropriate venues for them? I am concerned about this page that should be deleted for a number of reasons, but since I mainly write articles and rarely do anything else in Wikipedia, I am unaware to which page I should go, or which template to use. Could you be kind enough to help? It would be very much appreciated. My best greetings, --Aciram (talk) 08:39, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want the page deleted you will have to take it to WP:MFD. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:05, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) @Aciram: Besides which, you should never use the {{db-reason}} template directly. Speedy deletion is only permitted for the various criteria that are explicitly described at WP:CSD; each criterion has one or more criterion-specific templates. If a page matches one of the CSD criteria, you should use one of the associated templates; if a page does not match any of the CSD criteria, it's not eligible for speedy deletion. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:29, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Partially disambiguated page names

Thank you for all the good work pouring worms back into the can I opened. For the ambiguous Bhavana (actress), existing redirect Bhavana (Malayalam actress) might work, though Bhavana (Kannada actress) appeared in one Malayalam film Otta. Fossa (animal) I think is correct, or at least acceptable: the alternative meaning is Fossa (genus) and both obey our conventions for disambiguating taxonomy: Mammal genera are often qualified by (genus), though there are a few (mammal)s in there and more specific qualifiers such as (bat) in the subcats. Thanks again, Certes (talk) 08:42, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The problem I was referring to is how to disambiguate Bhavana (Kannada actress) versus the other actress who is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Malayalam and Kannada language films. For the Malayalam actress I prefer Bhavana (actress, born 1980). The only thing I can think of there is to invoke WP:NATURALDIS and move her to the less common but still used Bhavana Ramanna.
For Fossa (animal), I agree Malagasy civet is fine as is but given that there are other scientific names disambiguated as (animal) it would be reasonable to expect Fossa to be the same, which makes it partially disambiguated. Like Praya_(animal), Eunoe (animal), and others. See also User:Estopedist1/Taxons and disambiguation * Pppery * it has begun... 14:18, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I see the problems. Skipping those two still leaves this exercise doing a lot of good, even if it doesn't achieve perfection (and if it did, new errors would soon arise). Draft restorations

Hello, Pppery,

When you restore a draft that has been deleted due to CSD G13, you have to make a minor edit to the page or it is immediately eligible for speedy deletion again. There is a list of draft pages where this needs to be done at User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible.

If you help out at WP:REFUND, you'll find most admins use User:SD0001/RFUD-helper to avoid having to handle this step manually. As far as I know, these "minor edits" after page restoration are just required for CSD G13s. But if you restore PRODs and articles deleted through AFDs, then those deletion tags need to be removed after restoration. Thanks very much. Liz Read! Talk! 01:33, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Monument Mythos Speedy Deletion

Howdy - I'm Dellveloper, the dude who put the speedy deletion request on the MM draft. As per a request from the person who created the series that the draft involves, deletion is requested. That is not a reason for speedy deletion. Salted prods

I'm not sure WP:PROD is the right venue for deleting recreations of previously deleted articles. Do we need a stronger remedy than the WP:SOFTDELETE offered at prod? Have you tried WP:G4? ~Kvng (talk) 16:08, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I did try G4 in may cases. For the ones I PRODed G4 doesn't apply because there was no prior AfD (only prior speedy deletions under criteria that don't seem to apply to the new version), and either the original creator is long-gone or the creation was so long ago that I think it's unlikely there will be new interest in recreating. Hey @Pppery I wanted to apologize for the mistake with the roster templates.

I was trying to update the rosters and just putting those rosters more in line with what other independent teams do which is just put the roster itself into the main team page instead of creating a template for it instead.

I don’t really know how the depletion process works so I figured it would be better for me to get more info on it.

Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria deletions

Hi Pppery! I was wondering if there is some database report and/or quarry which tracks deletions under WP:NFCCE? It currently has a grandfather clause exempting things from before 13 July 2006, which strongly suggests the section is in need of updating. I would normally propose we just eliminate the grandfather clause, but I can't say I have heard of deletions as NFCC enforcement. (I am wondering whether simply directing people to CSD or FfD as appropriate would be more efficient/less CREEPy, and figured talking to people who use NFCCE is probably a good first step.) Thanks, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 22:03, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've always interpreted that policy section as describing deletions under F7, not as an independent basis for deletion. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:36, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is describing something different. The catch-all F7d has a seven-day holding period, but NFCCE says 48 hours (for things uploaded after 13 July 2006, due to the grandfather clause). Replaceable non-free media have a 48-hour holding period, but that bullet point of NFCCE does not limit its applicability to enforcing only replaceable media. HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 22:52, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think it's a bad attempt at describing F7 that has drifted from both the CSD wording and actual practice and I've not seen any deletions that reference that policy rather than citing F7.
To the extent it attempts to prescribe a new deletion process it doesn't have the authority too. Anyway, I would replace that section entirely with "Files that do not meet these criteria may be speedy deleted under criterion F7 after an appropriate waiting period." * Pppery * it has begun... 22:56, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HouseBlaster: I came here after seeing your edit summary. Instead of discussing such changes on Pppery's or any other user's user talk page, it would've been much better to discuss them at WT:NFCC since the talk page that corresponds to that particular policy/guideline. Discussing this here is great for the two of you, but it doesn't really give anyone else a heads up that a change is being proposed or that something relevant to that particular page is being discussed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:15, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: in hindsight, that was probably a better idea. I originally came here because I wanted to understand the current situation before making a proposal, but that probably could've been accomplished with a post at WT:NFCC and a ping. My apologies. HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 16:27, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote, in an edit summary: Restore redirect clobbered by draft. I assume that you mean Draft:C-Infinity, which should now itself be a redirect, because I disambiguated it. (I considered tagging the draft with {{hatredir}} and decided that would be a mistake, because the redirect is for a technical mathematical term, which should have the dignity of being primary.) What clobbered what? What did you do? Robert McClenon (talk) 02:27, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There was a longstanding redirect from C-infinity (lowercase I) to Smoothness. This redirect was overwritten (or "clobbered" in my past self's jargon) by an article on a product, which was later draftified. A smart kitten noticed this and erroneously requested the redirect revision be history split to C-Infinity (capital I), which I complied with, not noticing the error. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:32, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, my apologies that I requested a histsplit to the wrong title/that I didn’t notice that the redirect had already been recreated. I think I erroneously assumed that the capitalization of the draft’s title would have been the same as it was in mainspace - I was wrong. That also explains why I couldn’t find a log entry regarding the draftification when I looked at C-Infinity’s logs after the split — I think I assumed that the previous log entries must have been eaten by the histsplit (somehow), but this makes more sense. Apologies once again. All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 04:55, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding this, do you think it would be worth asking a pagemover to move the redirect at C-Infinity to C-infinity with the delete-redirect flag? The reason I ask is because one of my reasons for requesting the histsplit in the first place, rather than just recreating the redirect (which I didn’t then know had already been done), was so that its history correctly showed the date it had originally been created. At the moment, that creation history is at the wrong title, but (if I understand correctly) this would belatedly move the history back to its original title. I hope you don’t mind the question — I just wanted to get a second opinion before requesting anything, so that there’s less chance of me inadvertently messing anything else up. All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 16:10, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to you both. Just noticed the edits at C-infinity. I moved the original redirect C-infinity to Draft:C-Infinity, then recreated the redirect to Smoothness. Was that the wrong way to handle the overwrite of C-infinity with a spammy article by a new editor? If so, please let me know and I'll do it correctly next time. Thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 16:29, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikishovel: From my perspective, I don’t know if there’s a codified right or wrong way. In general, I personally prefer the WP:HISTSPLIT version of things, as it means that the page history from before a redirect was overwritten doesn’t stay moved to draftspace (where it may be harder to track, and might potentially end up deleted under G13), as well as allowing for a clearer indication of how long a redirect at the title has been around for when someone looks at its history. However, at the same time, that’s my personal view; and I’m unsure if there’s any firm guidance for new page patrollers on the matter (perhaps someone at WT:NPR might know?). All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 19:29, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I tend to be a bit more willing than many other people are to history merge multiple versions of the same article together even without a formal cut and paste. But it was wrong for me to do so over the objections of the author of the version I was history merging to. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:46, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not "particularly angry", simply disappointed. An inexperienced editor created Draft:Bassam Mahfouz at Wikipedia:2024 UK local elections night editathon, where I was in a training capacity. Yes, it took them quite some time, and for sure it was not the greatest draft ever. But now they get no credit whatsoever for their work. It is not easy getting newer editors involved, and is it any wonder that they get discouraged. Edwardx (talk) 18:00, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's unfortunate, it's also unfortunate that you didn't communicate your concerns properly with me - in fact you incorrectly nominated the article for speedy deletion within two minutes of the talkpage message to me, giving me no time to respond. Hu Pppery, I found out that this page was protected from moving. However, the RM is due here. I never found this until I closed for a second time. I do say you unprotect the move prevent and may out back after page move; as a matter of fact, I can't see much moving recently. Or maybe am a bit blind😂 Safari ScribeEdits! Deletion discussion about Yuga Labs

Hello Pppery, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Yuga Labs, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yuga Labs.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|BluePenguin18}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Sorry for the automated ping! You created this page as a redirect to Bored Ape in June 2022, which I agree with. An IP editor recently created a stub article that I feel provides less coverage than the existing Bored Ape article, and I find it difficult to imaging how a stand-alone Yuga Labs article could be written, given that the Bored Ape article already documents so much about the company. Feel free to participate in the discussion! BluePenguin18 🐧 ( 💬 ) 03:56, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pppery, I hope you are doing well. Could you do me a favor and delete these unnecessary pages from my userspace? Elephant population

Unfortunately, I disagree with your assessment. The page was created as a nonsense filled fork of Elephant and should have simply been speedy deleted as such at the time. Instead, it was made into a redirect of a type we simply do not have (i.e. 'redirect to exactly the same name as the target article plus an additional word') and indefinitely protected. THOSE actions were 'out of process'. I'm not going to undelete a redirect which I'm convinced should never have existed in the first place. If you really feel otherwise you can take it to DRV... or simply create a new redirect at that page. Though, I'd urge you to consider that in the 18 years of its existence, that redirect accumulated exactly ZERO links in the article namespace. --CBD 06:11, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Technical Barnstar
Hi Pppery! You took on a task out of your own initiative that restores a tool for new editors to learn and enjoy Wikipedia! For that, I am grateful. Thank you for finding and fixing the problems with WP:TWA, for following through, and for being a stand-up editor, as in someone who sees something wrong and STANDS UP to deal with it! Thanks. I have a much bigger rewrite of The Wikipedia Adventure in progress, using VisualEditor and DicussionTools and other more recent stuff, but that won't be ready to deploy for another few weeks since it depends on some upstream GuidedTour patches. DreamHost update

You added a notation that DreamHost needs to be updated with new information, but I'm not sure what you were referring to. I did search recent news and saw primarily service comparison reviews, which don't merit inclusions. If you would let me know what subtopic needs updating, I'll try to source the information and add it with reference citation. WmLawson (talk) 18:40, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the tag. At the time I added that I was processing m:Talk:Interwiki map/Archives/2023#Dreamhost, and I must have conflated "the DreamHost wiki is dead" with "the DreamHost website is dead, or something like that. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:39, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good work!

Hi, I came across some comments in a talk page a while ago that honestly gave me confidence that finally there would be some positive adminwork, and had meant to drop a line back then but didn't want to be perceived as creating drama - but now that I glanced at your talk page a while later, I see that such a thing is warranted. I can e-mail with more elaborations (don't want to call people out in public, unless I should?), but I actually did mention you (in person) to several wikipedians recently, in a positive way. Coming across you was really refreshing and I'm sure it can be hard. Tduk (talk) 15:02, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So, another question: I responded to a request with this, but now I'm wondering if this is what this noticeboard is supposed to be for. Should I be answering a request with discussion of relevant content policy? I did the same thing at MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist#Kickstarter_Project_Wingman_Update_Post. These discussions are what I would be having if someone brought in a similar source that wasn't blacklisted. But I'm working at this noticeboard as an admin. Does that mean I need to ignore content policy issues with the sources being requested for whitelisting? Valereee (talk) 14:19, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there's a clear answer to this. Requests have been declined for that kind of reasoning before (i.e MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Archives/2024/, MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Archives/2024/03#Roblox Forum, MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Archives/2024/, but in the past Kickstarter requests for closed petitions have generally been approved (i.e MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Archives/2024/04#For the King kickstarter, MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Archives/2024/ I hesitated in doing that myself here because Jursha appears to be here to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS rather than build an encyclopedia, as discussions like Talk:Project Wingman: Frontline 59#PS5-only Category show, and whitelisting the site would be seen, rightly or wrongly, as support for that. * Pppery * it has begun... 14:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've missed whatever led to this, like I missed your RfA while I was on holiday last year. For the record, I would have supported the RfA. I find you highly competent, dedicated, and with sufficient self-knowledge to limit your participation when appropriate. I think you appreciate the positive aspect of WP:DGAF – if on occasion a majority is not persuaded by your arguments, well, at least you put them forward as best you could, and this is a collaborative project where the majority matters; who knows, one day you might see their POV more clearly; so you move on, and concentrate your effort where it's appreciated – or even if it's unnoticed, you can be content that you are doing good stuff.
So I hope you will reconsider, and hang on to the toolbox. I'm certainly glad to be sharing it with you. – Fayenatic London 11:16, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

G5 deleting a very short userpage

You removed a speedy-delete tag from User:WikiWiz31 as there is no obvious mention of it being a sockpuppet. While a page just saying 'hi' is harmless, the block log states that the user is an unnamed LTA (and WP:G5 covers sockpuppetry as well). Due to the contents of the page, are very short userpages created as ban violations, like that one, supposed to be kept, or not? Xeroctic (talk) 18:08, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In order for me to delete something as G5 I have to be able to prove that it was created in violation of a specific block. That can't be done based on just a vague block log like that because I can't read the blocking admin's mind. In this specific case, after a closer look then I normally take when reviewing G5, I think it's Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver, but in any event you're creating makework for others by CSD tagging pages that require nontrivial effort to evaluate and there's no real reason they need to be deleted in the first place. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:11, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Flying radar: any suggestions?

Hi Pppery, I don't know what to do to such user. I am about taking them to WP:AN for a partial block or so (this is something you can do, though I thought of being WP:INVOLVED). Do I revert the move? No! I think I will suggest that at AN. Any opinion/help I can get from you? Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 01:12, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, there's no good solution to this problem I can think of either. And even my original suggestion of reopening the move request probably wouldn't solve whatever the problem is since if it closes as moved again nothing will appear to have changed from Heather Fix's perspective.
I do consider myself INVOLVED as an admin here, and even if I weren't that block would violate a promise I made at my RfA. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:19, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Expert in Bible"

"Expert in Bible" is just not grammatically correct. I was fixing a typo because the Bible is a proper noun and as such it needs a "the". I might be wrong but I still feel my edit was appropriate. CharlieEdited (talk) 21:59, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your version populated Category:Miscellaneous articles needing expert attention (a backlog I try to clear) and linked to the nonexistent WP:WikiProject The Bible. Wasn't planning to nominate any more. I PRODed the cryptography first one when cleaning up links after the closure of the computer science AfD, then realized this was a much bigger issue then I was preprared to tackle so disengaged.
