UTRS

I've posted a message to you at UTRS appeal #86970. JBW (talk) 16:27, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

I could use your help

A bot removed an image from an article. I believe I can explain why it was there.

The article is Eris (mythology)

It has this in the section on Discordianism:

"The story of Eris being snubbed and indirectly starting the Trojan War is recorded in the Principia, and is referred to as the Original Snub. The Principia Discordia states that her parents may be as described in Greek legend, or that she may be the daughter of Void. She is the Goddess of Disorder and Being, whereas her sister Aneris (called the equivalent of Harmonia by the Mythics of Harmonia) is the goddess of Order and Non-Being. Their brother is Spirituality."

The image posted of Eris, Aneris, and Spirituality was made by an early Discordian who gave permission for its use. It appears in censored form on Wikia/Fandom at https://discordia.fandom.com/wiki/File:Trigodsbw_censored.jpg It's been used there with permission since 2016, and is used in an article about the image's creator.

I don't know of a public domain image that would show Eris, Aneris, and Spirituality, the deities who represent the three aspects of reality as show by Discordianism.

Here is where the image was removed by a bot https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eris_(mythology)&oldid=1216994643

What can I do so that it can be restored to Eris (mythology)? Thanks for any suggestions you can give me! Vajzë Blu (talk) 16:43, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Non-free BLP image search

Hi JJMC89. Do you know whether it's possible to search for non-free images currently being used in BLP articles? Someone back in the day did set up an external site listing such images that was rather helpful, but that site is currently down and might be gone for good. Do you think this is something that can be done with a bot? -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:11, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I can list all non-free files used in articles in Category:Living people. How often would you want it updated? — JJMC89 22:18, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
If something can be done like that, then that would be a big help. Currently, the only option that I'm aware of is scouring categories like Category:Wikipedia non-free images, Category:Wikipedia non-free historic files and Category:Non-free biographical images, but there's not specific sub-category for non-free BLP images. Perhaps their should be one? As for updating, others might feel differently, but perhaps once or twice a month should be OK. Maybe the images you find can then be added to a new category to make them easier to find if they turn out to be OK to use becuase there categorization seems a bit random and depends entirely the uploader? -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:19, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
I was going to use Category:All non-free media. This would have a lot of false positives for artwork. — JJMC89 17:53, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
That would be fine if it works better. It appears to be a broader in scope than the other two categories. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Notification

Dear @JJMC89I wish to bring to your notice the message on my User page which has your username written twice. It's an honor to be here. I wish you do acknowledge that. Check my user page here Caleb Ndu (talk) 21:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

The copyvio was added back again, for the fourth time, by the same account 2 minutes after you did the revdel, I'm afraid. 2A00:23C5:50E8:EE01:79FB:BC74:BEDF:FF0C (talk) 19:44, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Blocked and RevDel'd again. Thanks for letting me know. — JJMC89 19:52, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Food and drink in England category talk page

The Category:Food and drink in England talk page needs fixing as I accidentally moved it trying to move the main category article. Please could you assist as I have tried to fix it but it hasn’t fixed the talk page. ChefBear01 (talk) 10:14, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

This looks to already be resolved. — JJMC89 17:48, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Somehow the two talk pages have been minced I need you to delete the Draft Wiki Project Food and drink industry of England talk page, this should hopefully untangle them.
I would like to invite you to join the above Draft:WikiProject food and drink industry in England, Many thanks. ChefBear01 (talk) ChefBear01 (talk) 19:11, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't participate in WikiProjects. I encourage you to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink instead of creating a new WikiProject. — JJMC89 20:45, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

CFD bot requests

Hi JJMC89, please could JJMC89 bot III also process category renamings within the following templates:

There will always be manual follow up required for some CFDs, but these seem fair requests for a bot to handle. Thanks in advance for you consideration! – Fayenatic London 11:05, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

This was discussed at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion/Working/Archive 3#Re-categorizing by updating templates. This would be implementing option 3 from my list. Please open a new discussion to get input from the other regulars before I implement. — JJMC89 20:57, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

The page has been stuck on news from 2021 for whatever reason. wikinews:Portal:Politics and conflicts/Wikipedia which the link at the bottom refers to as the source of retrievals is non-existent. That portal on Wikinews has been merged and redirected to wikinews:Category:Politics and conflicts. Latest political news can be retrieved on Wikinews through wikinews:Template:Topic header with parameter the {{Topic header|Politics and conflicts}}. Could this be fixed so the bot updates this Portal:Politics section again? Cheers. –Vipz (talk) 07:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

I decided to stop maintaining that task since I would have needed to rewrite Misza13's old Python 2 code to make it work with Python 3 and newer library versions. The declining use made it seem like it wasn't worth my time. FYI, the source page would now be at n:User:Wikinews Importer Bot/Politics and conflicts. — JJMC89 21:05, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Draft moved from Mainspace still apply?

Hi @JJMC89, I hope you're doing well.

Im currently submitting the draft for Hirohara Shrine, a random user by the name user:WC gudang inspirasi made an unauthorized moved the article from Draftspace to Mainspace without the actual anf necessary review process nor the adequate role for it (see: WP:AFCREVIEW.) Thus from here I revert it back to Draftspace. I then notice your bot adding {{drafts moved from mainspace}}. Well indeed it was, but does it still count? even if it was unauthorized? Cheers. Kaliper1 (talk) 07:45, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

The template is just for tracking, so I wouldn't worry about it. You can remove it if you like though. — JJMC89 21:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Thank you

A beer on me!
I had started to believe the Denosio/Suomi2023 cases may linger forever without being split. Thank you VERY much for your efforts there; it is incredibly helpful. Ponyobons mots 15:49, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

I don't know how the page is supposed to work, but I find it suspicious that user Deskana is listed twice:

but all other users are listed once. Could you please clarify if duplication is intentional or not? —andrybak (talk) 22:45, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Never mind, I figured it out. The wonder of blink comparison on two separate browser tabs has revealed that two listings are for two different criteria. Listing in May is for "Criterion 1" and in July—for "Criterion 2". The first ("pending") notifications are also separate for each criterion: Special:Diff/1216603573 and Special:Diff/1216603620, though they were sent in the same minute – 00:17, 1 April 2024. —andrybak (talk) 22:52, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Appeal of partial block

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. WizardGamer775 (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi @JJMC89:, I recently posted to Administrators Noticeboard- Incidents but I think that's the wrong place. I'd like to discuss the partial block imposed upon me.

I understand Wikipedia is a serious project and I am not here to toy around or disrupt the encyclopedia. I am here to contribute in good faith. I want to contribute effectively and help Wikipedia become a stronger source of information.

I ask that you lift this partial block placed on my account. I acknowledge that I have made mistakes with CopyPatrol and will not repeat them again. I am very willing to learn from the mistakes, and go through further material prior to using it again.

I feel that it would have been better if I were warned prior to being blocked. I was not aware that I was using the tool incorrectly. It was never my intention to make incorrect reviews and for that I apologize. WizardGamer775 (talk) 00:58, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Contributing in good faith is not enough. Non-admins working on copyright cleanup need to be trusted by the administrators who volunteer in copyright cleanup in their knowledge and judgment, and the administrators should not feel that they must continually check over their work. Your high error rate and you not taking appropriate cleanup actions, shows that your judgement/knowledge cannot be trusted. Your reviews would need to be continually checked. We don't have time to do that – doing our own reviews of copyright problems is time consuming enough. — JJMC89 17:47, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
I am leaving Wikipedia permanently. I thought I'd give it a second chance. A website which punishes those who help in good faith is not a place where I would want to be. WizardGamer775 (talk) 17:50, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @WizardGamer775: I understand your frustration but new editors should definitely not start with copyright cleanup. Because of its legal nature there's little room for error, even when assuming good faith. WP:CIR is especially relevant. If you really want to get into copyright cleanup, review our policies (WP:COPYRIGHT, WP:REVDEL, WP:OVERQUOTE to name a few) thoroughly, maybe do some CCI for a bit, but the most important part is quality over quantity. We are going for speed, not accuracy accuracy not speed. Copyright review is extremely tedious and definitely not for everyone. —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 18:18, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
While I appreciate your input here, We are going for speed, not accuracy. is the opposite of what we want. — JJMC89 20:40, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Oops I'm stupid, I got that the wrong way round —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 15:43, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
