Fair use rationale for Image:John Edward Anderson 01.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:John Edward Anderson 01.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 01:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have changed the template on Saint Mary's Hospital from {{disambig}}, to a new template {{hospitaldis}}. Is a separate template really necessary? The creation of lots of different disambiguation templates has caused problems in the past as you will see from the advice in the final paragraph here Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)#The disambig notice. CarolGray 11:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what the problems in the past were, the link I checked out just said that it has caused agitation among the many editors. I thought that as long as the disambiguation page was going to be used for only one purpose (locations, people, hospitals, etc.) then it was OK to use a more specific disambiguation template. Since it is unlikely that there are places, ships, people, etc. named "St. Mary's Hospital," I thought it would be nice to have a category and specific disambiguation template for the different same-named hospitals (It is impossible to actually go through [[Category:Disambiguation]] and try to find similar pages). I really liked the idea of the single, modifiable template {{disambig|topic}}, but it hasn't been created yet. All that being said, feel free to delete it. I won't be offended. :) Cmcnicoll 17:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was a time when lots of new templates were being created. This caused confusion and acrimony because there were problems with inconsistency in wording, inconsistency in use, and the use of subcategories of disambiguation without the main category. (I am glad to see {{hospitaldis}} has both). I agree {{disambig|topic}} is a really good idea and I've made a comment there in the hope of getting things moving. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Boston Medical Center logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Boston Medical Center logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 17:31, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:UCI Medical Center logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:UCI Medical Center logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:John Edward Anderson 01.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:John Edward Anderson 01.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 01:08, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Poll function

I can't really speak to that, since I didn't add that function to begin with, and my knowledge on the syntax for such a thing is minimal - it's a friggin' miracle I got as far as I did with it. Most of the pages I observed it on, especially non-team pages, had data that was missing and empty cells that couldn't be rectified so far as I could tell. If you or someone else wanted to try and fix that function, go ahead, but I would consider it a terrible idea to put the function in and leave the errors that it was causing, because in college basketball the polls are really rather meaningless, especially when you consider that one poll comes out before the tournament starts, and the other comes out after the tournament is over and really doesn't show much beyond what is evident from how a team finished in the tournament. --fuzzy510 (talk) 09:13, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note to say that per its documentation, {{talkheader}} normally shouldn't be placed on talk pages that have no comments at all. Perhaps this will save you a bit of typing. Happy editing, WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:40, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Santa Monica – UCLA Medical Center requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 23:30, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I restored the latest version, and emailed you the one I deleted in case there is material there you might want to rescue. Normally I do this sort of rewriting myself if the subject is really notable, but I was feeling exasperated by the extend of the copyvios and spam links from the editor involved. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:36, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Ambassador Program at MSU

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian associated with Michigan State University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at MSU, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in the East Lansing area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:23, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is WikiProject Superfunds still active

Sorry if this is a stupid question but it appears this project is inactive and you seem to be the only active participant. I would like to pull this in as a subproject of WPUS (see WikiProject U.S. Counties or District of Columbia currently). Do you have a problem with this? As the only member who has edited since August of this year your the first person I asked. I think it might be helpful to get some blood pumping into these articles again. Please let me know what you think! --Kumioko (talk) 22:43, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like it could be a good idea to bring more people into the project. Not really sure what it entails however. Do you mean that WPSF would become a task force? Also, it seems like WPSF might better fit into WPUSGovernment than WPUS. Cmcnicoll (talk) 03:07, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't have to be a task force it can still be its own project. I would just replace the Superfunds banner with WPUS and add Superfunds to the list of projects under WPUS. There's only a few hundred so I could do it in less than a day. This would allow the articles to be covered by and active project, would allow more US related articles to be covered under US. It would reduce the number of talk page banners on the articles, etc. If you would rather fall under US government that's ok with me. I'm not sure what the activity level of that project is though and I'm not sure if they would want to do the work. You can ask though. Its possible that project is basically inactive as well. --Kumioko (talk) 06:19, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like WPUS government could also fit in the WPUS banner. I like the idea in general, but I want to make sure that like the template for WPCanada, each project can add their own idiosyncracies, like importance, etc. Cmcnicoll (talk) 18:03, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I replied to your comments on the WikiProject Superfunds talk page. I also reverted your edits to {{WikiProject United States}} for know. Just let me know what you need me to do. --Kumioko (talk) 19:04, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for Wikipedia Ambassadors

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian associated with Boston University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at schools in Boston and Cambridge, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester.

If you live near Boston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.

If you're an experienced and active Wikipedian, you might be interested alternatively in becoming an Online Ambassador. The role of Online Ambassadors is to serve as mentors for students; it doesn't require any in-person outreach. Take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

The article Death Before Dishonor (Boston band) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WuhWuzDat 08:12, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Death Before Dishonor (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Deadbeef (talk) 04:16, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review invitation

Hello Christopher,

I am editor-in-chief of an under-development project in Wikiversity called Wikiversity Journal of Medicine (more information at Wikiversity Journal of Medicine/About).

I'd very much appreciate if you did a peer review of an article that was recently submitted to this journal:

This is essentially a shortened version of the Wikipedia article on that subject, in own words.

The peer review is preferably written in the corresponding talk page, and should include a declaration of any conflicts of interests. Comments should be constructive, include both strengths and areas for improvement, and be referenced whenever possible. Otherwise, the journal has no strict rules regarding the structure and length of a peer review. Still, more guidelines for peer reviewers can be found at: Wikiversity Journal of Medicine/Peer reviewers.

We prefer peer reviews to be returned within 3 weeks, and appreciate in any case a reply regarding whether you are interested or not in this contribution.

Best regards,

Notice

The file File:UNLV School of Dental Medicine logo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Superseded by c:File:UNLV signature SODM horz color.svg

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 12:49, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
