Richard Massara page deletion

Hi - the page richard massara was deleted back in September due to his apparent lack of interest. I would like to argue that this page would have been of interest. I was never able to see it to give comment on but I am aware of 2 feature films that he has starred in lead roles as well as numerous t.v. commercials in the UK and several modelling roles.

I would be keen to examine the original page to make it up to date. Further, as the son of Rooney Massara and brother of James Massara I believe that even any limited public exposure warrants him eligible for inclusion to this site.

I understand that you have a much greater view/knowledge on the site and would not like to step on any toes. I would just like to raise the question of whether this page may be socially relevant today. However, as I stated, I did not see the initial page so I completely understand if the original article had no sources to back up its importance. If I could see it I might be able to suggest some chances to back it relevant. If this is not possible no bother, I just thought I'd raise the issue. Great work on the site by the way. Upstate NY

Bearian,

Thanks for your rescue work on Upstate NY. Most of it makes sense to me.

I do wish to restore the "Legends and Hoaxes" section, however. The Cardiff Giant and the Fox sisters are certainly notable and part of the history of the area. The Cardiff Giant, which is now at the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, is nationally known from touring the country with PT Barnum. The Fox Sisters were nationally known as well, having achieved notoriety as mediums when their part of NY State was known as the "Burned Over District" for all the religious fervor and spiritualism thereabouts. Champ is an enduring legend given weight by the geology of the Champlain Valley and Lake Champlain's history as an arm of the sea at the end of the last Ice Age. So I'd like to leave them in. Good move reverting the edit taking out the "anything north of the Bronx" definition of upstate.

I'm fascinated by your "Bear Mountain" definition, which corresponds closely to the "anything above Westchester and Orange Counties" definition, and is the closest thing I've seen to a specific geographic boundary. Is there another citation for this other than the "Bear Mountain Compact" article? The article implies a definition of upstate but doesn't explicitly state it.

As an Albanian, do you have any suggestions for the new spinoff article Politics of Upstate New York? The criticisms of the POV are legitimate, in my opinion, but I didn't think the problems with that section should be allowed to sink the entire Upstate article.

Farine has been taking additional paragraphs out of the separate Politics article. Most of them are okay, but I thought that the discussion of last fall's congressional race in NY-23 and gaffes by downstate politicians displaying ignorance of upstate geography were significant and shouldn't have been deleted. Do you have any uggestions for how to reframe that information in a Wiki-appropriate manner?

Can you explain your page protect of David Weigel a bit better? You said it was done because there were recent edits without citations,[2] that is not true, as you can see by the version that was current when you semi-protected the page. [3] Perhaps you inadvertently mis-stated your reason on the article's talk page?

Just one more question - what is your view on people using the article talk page as a forum to say things about the subject that would obviously not be allowed in the BLP? It seems that is being done big time, especially since the page protect, but also before. There is only one sentence in the entire article which does not have a citation at the end of it: He wrote for The Washington Independent from November 2008 until early 2010 That sentence is hardly contentious or likely to be challenged. There is no quote which is not sourced. Looking back over the history, I don't see where there has been a problem with unattributed quotes. Bearian, what do you mean there is not third-party confirmation - - read May 18, 2009 Marine Corps Times article referenced directly in the body specifically on Kane. Have you read this entry or are you only scanning it or scanning titles. Reference the NYTimes author profile on subj, read the Marines Magazine feature describing subj by their editors... shall I go on? None of those are by Kane and they are certainly reliable sources for most of humanity, if not ye. Award from President of the United States, on the public record and summarized by Marine Corps Times article in May 2009. Fine if you are right, but you seem to not what to address these facts and only scan the debate and entry in question rather than show attention to detail. Can you help?

Mike L. Murphy has been returned to AFD.[6] I have some concerns that its author was never notified of either AFD,[7] and have begun cleanup, expansion, and have done work with sourcing. Might you be able to assist in researching his work as visual effects designer and his works winning awards? Also, there was an article written about him in March 22, 2010. I can find evidence of its existance,[8] and of its being quoted elsewhere... but the article itself is no longer available online. Can we AGF in its existance in hardcopy library archive somewhere? Problem child

I was looking at the edit list and messages posted to User 153.29.176.61 and he/she seems to be a chronic vandalism practitioner. I would recommend that this account be blocked as I see very little attempt by this anonymous user to provide any valid content, but seems to periodically insert gibberish, sometimes using profanity. Really?

Is there some "excessive vandalism" that I am not seeing? [9] There appears to have been a troublesome editor who made some questionable edits at the begining of May, but hardly at the level or of substance (like BLP violations) that would suggest protection. Dick Cheney's article was up for AFD and I was trying to be very polite by not voting or pointing out how it meets the GNG policy.

The AFD was closed as a no consensus but then there was a secret campaign to force the administrator to re-open it and a flood of deletes. I was not born yesterday. When there is a re-open and a flood of the same votes, it is often a sign of some sort of campaign.

Even if we ignore the campaign, the idea of re-opening and re-closing is against the rules. Some fo the delete people say it is ok, but they want it deleted. I read the real rules and it says that deletion review is the way to go.

I mentioned it on ANI but the people for delete closed the ANI thread. This is being heavy handed. MVOO (talk) 00:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grieg's music in popular culture

Hello. You recently added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this, see e.g. [10]). I've only removed the reference, not the text it was referencing, and I've replaced the reference with one to the website of the Griegsakademie. I'm removing a lot of similar references as they are circular references; many other editors have also been duped by these sources. Despite giving an appearance of reliability, the name "Webster's" has been public domain since the late 19th century. Please adhere to WP:CIVIL. And please do not fausely accuse me of "vandalising" the page. I'm merely demanding a higher standard. I don't know what "going to Middle School in the United STates" has to do with anything. I believe they teach creationism in some Middle Schools in the US, and racism in some schools in the Arabian peninsula. Google hits? That's how Wikipedia establishes notability? The phrase "Eat shit motherfucker" also comes up with 174,000 results. Until you can find a reputable source establishing the viability of this concept as an important one in political science, then it either deserves to be substantially reduced in scope, or deleted entirely. As it stands now, it's approximately equivalent to an article entitled "The Fighting Irish" that would attempt to describe the inherent martial supremacy of Irish culture. It's silly. And forget Middle School, I have a postgraduate degree in History from one of the world's most prestigious universities.
