Scoville scale mentions that chemical compounds like capsaicin trigger thermoreceptors to create the illusion of heat. Menthol, on the other hand, apparently does the opposite. Are they triggering the very same thermoreceptors that are the subject of this article? If so, that should be worth explaining. Algae 08:51, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Merging with Thermoception
I don't think it is a good idea to merge the articles, thermoception is a sense (especialy when it concerns pit vipers), a thermoreceptor is a small organ sensitive to temperature change which links to the neural system. The articles need more splitting instead of merging. Thermoreceptor should be an article about thermoreceptors in the skin, and the brain (hypothalamus), their morfology and how they perform their task. Thermoception should make a split with the specialized sense in snakes and with the way the body deals with the output of the thermoreceptors.Viridiflavus (talk) 13:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
