in-Merger of "Octreotide"

I've taken the "Octreotide" article and brought it into this one. I did this for two reasons. First, as a method for clearing a Template:bio-stub. Second, and more importantly, because it provides an immediate context for the drug; as it mimics somatostatin, having it in the context of somatostatin makes sense to me. If you (other editors) do not agree with this, I would ask that you not separate the two concepts unless you are going to add substantially more information to the "Octreotide" article so that it can stand as a non-stub article. No mention of Lanreotide

Citations

Citations for several of the claims in the article should be pretty easy to find, depending on the nature of the citations desired. I came looking to see what was written about SOM in the hippocampus, and when I saw the "citation needed" tag I did a quick Google search and found the following: Somatostatin-immunoreactivity in the hippocampus of mouse, rat, guinea pig, and rabbit. It isn't the first article to find SOM in the hippocampus, but it pretty clearly covers the issue. Is that sufficient? I further found Electronmicroscopic study of somatostatin-containing neurons in rat arcuate nucleus with special reference to neuronal regulation (1983). It looks like the arcuate nucleus page could also use this and related references. If these finds are worthwhile, let me know and I'm sure with a little time I can find some more. --Tgillet1 (talk) 14:50, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Does anybody know about the effects of somatostatin on cancer therapy. Rename article?

We currently have a growth-hormone-releasing hormone (somatocrinin) article and a somatostatin (growth hormone-inhibiting hormone) article – this should change. It should be either:

• somatocrinin and somatostatin

or

• growth-hormone-releasing hormone and growth-hormone-inhibiting hormone

Invertebrate people

Editing or elaboration

The statement "Somatostatin can also indirectly decrease stomach acid production by preventing the release of other hormones, including gastrin, secretin and histamine..." could require editing or elaboration.
