I added some points based on previous contribution to German articles of mine. Great thing this is your article, Yoda said! I left out page numbers in that case repectively, as the comparision is being done in various parts of the book, its better to quote just the title. Correct me if I am wrong. Die moderne Straße: Planung, Bau und Verkehr vom 18. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert Hans-Liudger Dienel, Hans-Ulrich SchiedtCampus Verlag, 13.09.2010 is worth while further reading. I did some enhancements with snippets on the chapter by Kreuzer.
Deleting the new deal section is OK - too much of an essay. I think the competition with the Ostpreußen-Plan stated by Schivelbusch is closer to the topic. BR Polentarion Talk 02:52, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, this topic can easily become several dissertations. I would like to have said more about how the landscaping proved too expensive and was greatly cut back at the end; both that and where the labor came from turn out to have been quite complex and changed over time. (As did the architectural elements; I also did not go into detail on the increasing use of monumental brick as the supply of stone dried up from all the monumental building projects!) But it would have been too much; as it is, a surprising amount is stated briefly somewhere, including the New Deal comparison and the influence of American roads. Schivelbusch was a great find, but the English version is an excellent translation and the scope of the argument obviously goes way beyond this. I'll have a look at Die moderne Straße.
- This is one example of a topic that English Wikipedia editors had apparently not even realized existed, and look at all the red links on people - Seifert is just the most blatant omission that I had hoped to remedy up some day.
- What I believe the article most needs is information on the technical specifications, where I did not have the know-how to make the best use of the sources. Also, a map of the routes that were built and projected would be great; the one we had was deleted on Commons and in any case was from a presentation by Todt, predating the Anschluß. But there may well be other areas where my sources were lacking or where I failed to appreciate the importance of something. Yngvadottir (talk) 03:58, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- Some article (sections) of mine were expanded with links to Seifert in the deWP, de:Deutscher Wald and de:Agrarwirtschaft_und_Agrarpolitik_im_Deutschen_Reich_(1933–1945)#Gesetzgebungsma.C3.9Fnahmen.2C_Forschungs-_und_Bildungspolitik. And we had Gärtnern, Ackern ohne Gift back home. A similar brown-became-green topic from my article range is Wind energy and of cause Renewables, Bionade-Biedermeier-Flak included ;) Youre right as always - one could expand endlessly the article. I once worked an intern in one of the engineering companies derived from OT and think I could be of help, if you tell me where to have a look. E.g. some of the technical specs, like long slopes and curves were done - without CAD construction but using bent special rulers to allow adaptation to different landscapes during planning.
