Rename?

Seeing as it's official name is Human Herpesvirus 8, and as it doesn't just cause KS, but also Castleman's and PEL, shouldn't we rename this article Human Herpesvirus 8 and have KSHV redirect to it rather than the other way around? FelixFelix talk 16:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Epidemiology?

Is there any data on the prevalence of KS in immunocompetent HHV-8 infected individuals?74.79.161.1 17:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing to eliminate strong bias

I deleted a large section of non-cited material showing heavy bias and misinformation about homosexuality and Africans. As a molecular biologist at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, I must say that what I read was very disturbing, and thus edited it accordingly. The information was also reviewed by a Pharm.D., Ph.D.

PRAGUE, June 1 -- More than half of a group of patients with psoriasis tested positive for human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8), suggesting infection might play a role in the etiology of the disease, according to data reported here.
The prevalence of HHV-8 was more than four times higher in biopsy specimens of patients with psoriasis than in an age-matched control group without psoriasis, Samar Samoud, M.D., of Farhat Hached Hospital in Sousse, Tunisia, and colleagues said in a poster presentation at the International Congress of Dermatology.

...

... [S]pecimens from 22 of 40 patients with psoriasis (55%) were positive for HHV-8 antibodies compared with five of 40 (12.5%) individuals in the control group (P<0.001).

...

However, when the investigators compared HHV-8 status with psoriasis disease activity, they found no correlation.
