Table of examples, please?

I would be ever so grateful for a small table of examples, so one could just quickly see what format to use when without thinking too hard. Grateful copyeditor. Eperotao 18:55, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uppercase

All uppercase letters are only for human genes and proteins, not animals. italics for genes, non-italics for proteins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.235.144.166 (talk) 16:40, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Xenopus nomenclature

The convention is now all lower case for both genes and proteins. Gene names are in italics and protein names non-italics. This was selected as the standard in a community survey held at the 2008 International Xenopus Conference. Segerdell (talk) 15:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bacterial naming scheme?

Why is this article blatantly ignoring bacteria? Could someone incorporate Demerec 1956? http://www.genetics.org/cgi/reprint/54/1/61.pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lskatz (talkcontribs) 22:26, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Databases

There are several formats for the same gene of the same species, it just differs by the database or organization which curates the annotation (RefSeq, Entrez, Pubmed). It would be extremely useful if there was a table of examples of the different formats for the species. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petersoapes (talkcontribs) 20:19, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming certain genes to avoid problems with MS Excel

The article referenced below has information that probably ought to be added.

Lead length issues

I think that the lead length issues that have been flagged here are largely due to style issues; I plan to edit for concision. It would be great to get suggestions on how some sections may be restructured to remove some of this content into the body of the article, but I believe these edits will at least go some way to improving readability.
