Locked article?

Any reason why this unregistered editor can't edit the article? I can't see any "padlock" symbol. All I wanted to do was to replace a dead external link with one from the UK NHS.--217.155.32.221 (talk) 11:40, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia page for Dysarthria is protected. I'd like to ask the editors to add more terms to the list of causes, including Near Drowning, ALS, and Hypoxic Encephalopathy, to name a few. Here is a link to a research paper. Page 282 lists several causes not included on Wikipedia. I'd really like to be included as an editor for this page because I'm always researching about near-drowning symptoms, causes, and treatments. Whisperjunkie: this page is for discussing the workings of the Help Desk, so your question is in the wrong place. But never mind, I'll try to answer it.
The article Dysarthria is semi-protected, meaning that only auto-confirmed users can edit it. This was done in December 2014 by Doc James, to prevent a class of students from adding copyrighted material to it. (I think it ought therefore to have a padlock sybol, but doesn't).
If you have proposed changes to the article, you can list them on its talk page, and leave it to other editors to decide whether to make them. Or you can wait until you are auto-confirmed, which will happen after you have made another eight edits, and then make the changes yourself. Maproom (talk) 07:04, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
