Updates and corrections for the organization

I have created this account to use in my duties as Digital Communications Specialist at ACOM. My intention is to make edits to improve the accuracy and depth of the content on the wikipedia entry for the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. Zccacom (talk) 17:16, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First I'd take a look at WP:COI regarding conflicts-of-interest. Second you need to see WP:USERNAME for the username policy, as it appears your username violates that policy and will need to be changed. I am going to post some useful links on your talk page to look at, but: any content you add needs to be relevant, be noteworthy enough to add, have sources, and otherwise not be promotional. Thank you very much for your thorough reply and all of the helpful information.
On COI: I did read up a bit on the COI policy before making the edit I sent through earlier, but I am glad to have more detailed information in the article you linked. My intention is only to use this account if something needs updating for correctness. In this instance, a board member at our organization noted an incorrect listing (outdated name) under "affilites" in the info box. Are these minor edits / corrections acceptable for me to execute personally? Further, if I ever have a need to ADD additional inforamtion, which would of course be informational rather than promotional, would it be best to submit that information on the COI Noticeboard, which I saw listed as an option on the article you linked?
On Usernames: Is the issue with the "Promotional" or "Implying Shared Use" guidelines? I am happy to change it to anything that would help. Should I request something like "ZCC at ACOM" to avoid the shared use confusion, or should I remove the "ACOM" portion altogether? I assumed the ACOM in the username would be helpful for COI issues, but I'm okay with changing it to an unafiliated username, if you feel that is more appropriate.
Thanks you for the assistance! Zccacom (talk) 18:43, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
COI Noticeboard is for reporting egregious incidents of COI-editing that require (administrator) response. If you want to discuss an edit, you'd do so on the talk page of the article you wish to edit (such as this one). If you're updating something that's false (such as a statistic, faculty position, or the like), you can probably get by with doing that without discussing it first, as long as a source is provided if necessary, and as long as you've disclosed your conflict-of-interest on your user page. For adding new content, you may want to discuss it on the talk page first, or even post it here as a 'coi-edit-request' where another editor can review your requested edit and decide whether or not to apply the edit themself.
As for usernames, I think it depends on what ZCC means. If your name (initials, etc) are ZCC, then your username may be ok; if ZCC is something like a position or role at ACOM, then that would not be acceptable (WP:ISU). I'm still trying to learn the ins-and-outs of how the username policy works in situations like yours, so I can't give you much more definitively, perhaps someone else can help there.

Thank you for the clarification. That process sounds appropriate to me as well. On the username / coi point, yes. I was thinking that using initals and "ACOM" would be best for disclosure, but I may clarify it, if it becomes necessary. Thank you again for your help. Minor Update - Number of Enrolled Students to Reflect Current Stat

From organization employee - I noticed the student number listed is a few years old, as class sizes have grown since then. I have updated to the current number as verified through the college registrar. Zccacom (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
