Trying to de-orphan Development Fund of the Swedish Construction Industry

Greetings. I'm trying to create links leading to this article, but I'm not familiar enough with the concepts of Nordic model, Social corporatism and the like to attempt an insertion in those. I think the version in Swedish is also orphaned. If someone could look into that, that would be great. A list of Swedish associations (not just a category) would be a fine addition to wikipedia, of course.Robincantin (talk) 14:05, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm not even sure that passes WP:NCORP. A quick search on the web does not provide anything near "significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject". Sure, there may be offline sources that would provide notability, but I doubt it. – Elisson • T • C • 17:27, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi all. I recently created this stub on Sweden based artist and designer Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss. There is a substantial article in the Swedish wikipedia that uses Swedish language references that could be translated over to the English wiki page. Tetra Pak article updates

Hello, my name is Victor. I'm here on behalf of my employer, Tetra Pak, and as such have a conflict of interest for all pages related to Tetra Laval. I have made an edit request on the Tetra Pak Talk page, where I disclosed my COI. The article hasn't received much attention in the past few years, and my goal is to provide updated and improved sources, and offer content where there are gaps. My first request asks to bring some information up to date, and also evaluate some sources that might not be appropriate. I added my suggestion to the request edit queue, and thought I'd reach out here as well to see if any editors are interested in reviewing my requests and making appropriate edits on my behalf.

If you have any questions, you can reach me here or on my Talk page. Thank you, Victor at TetraPak (talk) 08:42, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Women in Red Europe contest

After successfully completing our Asia and Africa contests over the past six months, we now welcome contributions to our Women in Europe contest which runs for three separate months from April to June 2021. To qualify for the contest, articles have to contain at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text and participants need to be members of Women in Red. We look forward to lots of new biographies of women from Sweden.--Ipigott (talk) 06:35, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Swedish female authors

Hi, having done articles on Marika Stiernstedt and Anna Lenah Elgström based at least initially on the corresponding SE wiki articles, I though it it might be a good idea to see what other female SE-language authors there are SE Wiki articles for but not EN-Wiki articles, and see if more could not be written here on EN-Wiki. I do not propose to do this entirely through machine translation as I think the standards of the two wikis differ in some respects, but it is useful for a first-pass.

The goal is to write articles that are at least viable stubs for each. For this I would be looking at at least 3kb of data in each with three sources, at least two of which are clearly significant coverage of the subject.

I came up with the following list based on the SE Wiki list of SE-language authors with on SE-wiki. I intend to go through this list and mark all the ones that no WP:NAUTHOR or WP:BASIC-passing article can be written about and mark them as  Not done. Anyone who wants to help on this can mark an article they want to work on as  Doing.... Obviously once they are done the link will turn blue, but you can also mark them as  Done. Please feel free to add any that are missing, see if any of the ones marked "not done" can actually pass WP:NAUTHOR/WP:BASIC or point out if we do have an EN-language article but it just isn't trans-wikied properly. If you do use the SE wiki article, don't forget to credit it appropriately.

New Page Patrol

A page I had created is part of this Wikiproject.

Looking for someone here with new page patrol rights to review the page and see if it meets all of the guidelines:

[1]

ThanksWickedwiki2 (talk) 05:58, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Thank-you for your contributions to Wikipedia, Wickedwiki2. Creating a new article is one of the most difficult tasks on Wikipedia, and personally I would have advised you to get some more experience in other areas first. Still, since you have asked, I have some comments on Jasmine Sjöberg Sidibe:
  • All articles published on Wikipedia must be about notable topics. "Notable" has a specific meaning on Wikipedia: namely, that reliable, secondary sources, that are independent of the article subject, have written about the topic. You can find a more comprehensive set of guidelines for notability of people here (see also the section on models). I don't currently see any clearly reliable sources used in the article (more about that later) and so I am not convinced that the subject is clearly notable.
  • All content written about living people on Wikipedia – but particularly content in articles – must follow the Wikipedia policy on biographies of living people. This is one of Wikipedia's most important policies. I have removed some personal content from the article (including a date of birth) that was not supported by a reliable source. This must not be put back unless you can find a suitable source to support it.
  • The sources used in the article currently are mostly not reliable. The first reference is a youtube video: that's a primary source at best. References 3 and 5 are to Wikipedia: that's user-generated content and hence not suitable as a source. References 7 and 8 are to tabloid newspapers: I wouldn't consider them reliable for anything beyond the most basic of facts. I don't know much about the other sources so I won't comment on them, but they don't look particularly compelling to the untrained eye.
I am not a new page reviewer, so I am not going to take any more actions on the article, but I strongly suspect that it will be moved to draft space, moved back to your userspace, or deleted unless you can radically improve the referencing to the point where it's good enough to make a strong case that the subject is notable.
Finally, I notice that you've asked in a number of places (here, at another Wikiproject page, and on a user talk page) for somebody to carry out a new page review on the article. There is (always) a big queue at the new page patrol and attempts to bypass it are generally frowned on as queue-jumping. I'm sure you didn't appreciate this and were asking in good faith, but I would advise you to focus on improving the article and other articles on Wikipedia rather than trying to accelerate the review process.
Best wishes, Wham2001 (talk) 08:09, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Sydsvenskan

According to Sydsvenskan paid subscription was removed but if I would like to read this article (full version of article is archived but I want to add note to reference) it shows:

Läs vidare med Digital!

Läs Sydsvenskan för 8 kr/vecka i 8 veckor – därefter tillsvidare 129 kr/månad. Ingen bindningstid.

So what is the "Digital"? Eurohunter (talk) 10:43, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

"Digital" in this context means online, it is essentially a paid subscription. For 8 SEK per week you get access to the online/webpage version of the newspaper for 8 weeks, but no paper copies delivered to your doorstep. Draken Bowser (talk) 15:37, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
@Draken Bowser: So it is free after you pay subscription (weird definition of something free)? Eurohunter (talk) 19:58, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
"Fri" is a false friend here, sort of. "Fri" in swedish means free only in the general sense (here it specifically means unlimited), for free as in "no cost" the swedish term is "gratis". Draken Bowser (talk) 20:20, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

I think the scope should be "Kal å Ada" [2], discussing either one independent of the other comes across as rather strange. The fictitious duo is well known outside Gothenburg and clearly notable. Draken Bowser (talk) 09:24, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. About "Walk on Water" it would be 6th single from Now You're Gone – The Album because original "Russia Privjet" was released on album than "Russia Privjet (Hardlanger Remix)" so I will edit the table and add note. Location help?

Not knowing any Swedish and having accumulated 2 questions about Swedish locations, I thought I would ask them here. First, in the article Claes Tholin, it identifies his birthplace as "Södra Säm, Älvsborgs län". Is this possibly the ruined parish church that can be found on Google Maps? I'm just a little dubious because a website about it indicates the parish had been merged with another and the church abandoned by 1824, well before Tholin's birth in 1860. Second, I am trying to write an article on Swedish-American botanist Ivar Tidestrom (See my sandbox.) He was born on his family's estate "Lanna" in Närke. I can find an area near Vintrosa on Google Maps that has a resort and other locations with that name - is that where "Lanna" was? Thanks in advance, Brianyoumans (talk) 18:03, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you again! Yes, I found a picture of part of the estate and even of his father and mother, although not of Ivar. There is a link in the article now to a picture and short bio of his father.Brianyoumans (talk) 02:52, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Swedish text

Could anyone transcribe original text of Swedish recording (duration of 4:11 min)? Eurohunter (talk) 18:44, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

I'm uncertain whether that can be posted here, could you activate e-mail in your settings? Draken Bowser (talk) 19:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
@Draken Bowser: You can put it here as quote with reference, so it shouldn't be a problem, but eventually I can request deletion later. Eurohunter (talk) 17:34, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
Nah, I'm not gonna annoy the admins by releasing possibly copyright protected material on wikipedia. Draken Bowser (talk) 18:58, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
@Draken Bowser: Are you sure? You can publish it on Genius.com without any copyright issues. Eurohunter (talk) 07:32, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
@Draken Bowser: Send it to sverigesradiobasshunter10@mailinator.com Eurohunter (talk) 09:53, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
But then I need to create a throwaway mail-account. Why not just send it (completely anonymously) via the built-in wp mail? Draken Bowser (talk) 10:14, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
@Draken Bowser: You can send standard email message for this email address. I can remove message just after I receive it and, we could even make an appointment for an hour if it makes sense. There is no built-in WP mail. Eurohunter (talk) 21:15, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

Deep research on Boten Anna

I'm going to do the great research on "Boten Anna". I'm going to check every website from Category:Newspapers published in Sweden and its subcategories with site: "Boten Anna". It is time-consuming, but is that good strategy? Do you have better idea? Eurohunter (talk) 11:56, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Trying to identify a Swedish military officer

While writing up War College (Finland), I came across a bunch of Swedish officers who were among the initial teaching staff of the college. I've already identified two as sv:Olof Ribbing and sv:Karl Axel Bratt, but a third eludes me. Their name is given in most sources as "Major H. Malmberg" and they would have been hired in late 1924. In 1934, his rank is given as Colonel. One candidate is sv:Harald Malmberg (militär) who appears to have a conventiently sized hole in his CV, but I can't actually verify it's him.

My Swedish is not great, so I'd appreciate any help in finding more about Mr. Malmberg. Ljleppan (talk) 10:49, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Seems like it: [4][5] (active as a teacher there 1924–1927). Draken Bowser (talk) 11:50, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Ghost fliers

Documented "flap" (wave) of UFO sightings across Scandinavia in the 1930s. Not even mentioned at List of reported UFO sightings, but even the NYT covered it briefly (paywalled archive). Finnish WP page at fi:Kummituslentokoneet.

Help finding Swedish-language sources would be extremely helpful. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 07:23, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Mecanum wheel

I would like to update the diagram on the Mecanum wheel in order to make it more accessaible. While the diagram is accurate, it could be significantly better as it does not show the vector components or explain the physics of why the body moves in the directions indicated. I am capable of making my own diagram. However, I'm not sure how to site a source. There are numerous youtube videos on the topic, but I imagine that I need to provide something more substantial. "Boten Anna" at number one in Spotify (Sweden)

According to Göteborgs-Posten "Boten Anna" is a number one on Spotify in Sweden but according to Spotify's list "Boten Anna" is currently at number 27. What do they mean? Eurohunter (talk) 12:36, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Unclear, since she doesn't specify by what metric it is "the biggest hit", other than according to spotify. I wouldn't mull over it, especially if it fails verification. Draken Bowser (talk) 15:41, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Johan Floderus

Hello! I just wanted to mention that I'm working on a draft for an article about Johan Floderus, a Swedish diplomat and EU official who, as recently reported by the NYT, has been detained in Iran since April 2022.

Just looking for proper sources and assembling the text has been quite a time-consuming process (and I haven't even started working on the main section, yet!), so if anyone can help me complete the draft, I'd hugely appreciate it. Oltrepier (talk) 16:53, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello again, I've just finished working on the draft and moved it to the mainspace: now you can find it here.
Like I said before, any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
(Also, I've inserted the "diplomat" specification, in order to distinguish Floderus from an eponymous philologist and priest who is similarly registered on Wikidata). Oltrepier (talk) 15:02, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello WikiProject Sweden:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

The Wiki Sweden project seems a good place to ask for help reviewing a proposal I wrote for this company founded by Oscar Kjellberg. These are minor changes that will bring the page up-to-date and improve the page’s readability. Help request

There is a query re the launch date of HSwMS Thordön (1865) being discussed at WT:MILHIST#HSwMS Thordön (1865). Are there any members of this WikiProject that have access to online historical Swedish newspapers that are able to confirm the actual date of launch? Mjroots (talk) 09:06, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Replied to this at MILHIST. For future reference, pretty much all Swedish newspapers ever published are searchable through tidningar.kb.se. OCR isn't perfect but I had no problem finding articles about Thordön. Peter Isotalo 16:20, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
