Use of Election Buddy to manage election.
My name is Lane, user:bluerasberry, and I am election coordinator. This year I am using ElectionBuddy to manage the election.
Some context: the Wikimedia community has a strong preference for free and open, nonprofit software. Election Buddy is a commercial service which charges US$29 per election. After years of talking with other with other wiki election coordinators and having trouble with free tools, we started exploring commercial options. For the benefit of the voters and others who will set up elections, I think Election Buddy is good to try. The ballots should go out in a few minutes.
Something that I wanted but could not figure out was how to have the option "yes / no / abstain" for individual candidates. Wikimedians are multicultural and like fool-proof ballots. While Election Buddy is nice, I think it could be simplified more.
I am unsure about how free and open Election Buddy's reports are at the end of the election, and unfortunately the demo does not clarify this for me, so I will have to update on that when I get the results. This is my first time using the tool.

- Update: I see in the private dashboard for me as election manager in Election Buddy that several people have successfully cast ballots, and others have opened the email without casting their ballots. This seems good to me. One ballot was undeliverable due to bounce with the email address. I sent a message to this user in another channel asking them to confirm their address. If that fails I will try to identify other options to deliver the ballot. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:15, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
