Hi i am person who isnt part of the shcool but is knowdlegeable of it and I wanted to write some stuff about the school. A recent incident arised and I wanted to provide some background around it and to prevent the school from taking it down. The stuff i wrote is basic school information that many other schools have. thanks Lpalus (talk) 21:37, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lpalus: The content you added was written in a tone intended to promote SSES' athletics program. It spoke of a "strong athletic program" that supports the "school's mission" and is "highly respected in the local community and beyond". This is all promotional content, not factual content. Colorado Xplosion

Hello WikiDan61. I am editing the Colorado Xplosion webpage and adding links that provide accurate and more detailed information on the team. I was the person who contacted the ABL to have a team selected in Colorado and they hired me as GM once Colorado was selected. I have donated materials to History Colorado that confirm my information. A search in the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain Archives and other valid online sources confirms my information. Can you please let me know how to have the content published? Thank you. Lark Birdsong, lebird66 Lebird66 (talk) 17:29, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lebird66: Lark, I recommend that you read Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest guidelines. As a person involved with this team, you should not edit the page. If there are factual errors or omissions, you may make edit requests at the article's talk page. Further, the material you've added has the tone of a personal recollection about how you, personally, acted during the founding of the team. That's not really how Wikipedia works. If there is material about the founding of the team that is documented in reliable sources (not things you have written, unless they've been published in a fact-checking publication), then please point that out in your talk page edit requests. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:07, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Colorado Xplosion

Thank you for your insights. I provided some edit requests on the talk page with sources that are verifiable. Many of the sources such as the Rocky Mountain News, less available as time goes on. I donated all the material I had remaining in late 2021 and initially in 1998-99 when the league dissolved. Thanks for your time. Lark Lebird66 (talk) 19:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lebird66: You mentioned that you "provided some edit requests on the talk page". You have not. If you tried, it did not take. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:13, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Source for Historical Information

Hello WikiDan61

Would you consider adding this resource in the references for individuals who want to learn more about the Colorado Xplosion?

Lebird66 (talk) 20:16, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lebird66: Again, no. I do not believe that link provides any useful information about the team. When I search for "Xplosion" at that database search engine, I get a list of memorabilia that has been donated to History Colorado. None of the memorabilia really expands the knowledge about the team beyond what is already included in the article. If you feel differently, I suggest you make the request to add that source at Talk:Colorado Xplosion so other users can weigh in on the situation. Further, I've deleted the email sent to you by the curator of that site; my talk page is no place to share personal emails. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:00, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History Colorado

Hello WikiDan61

The collection of History Colorado link provides much more information than one can see through a digital search alone. There is a citation for a video of a game and an advertisement which an interested party could view by having this citation and going in person to request the material to view. As Shayn mentioned this link will provide more material I donated in 1998. They would be able to review financials, see stock for the ABL, advertising strategies, players for all years, media guides for ABL teams and more. This online link provides more information than the Wikipedia page provides. A historian interested in women’s sports would find this link a valuable resource. It is a valid link, from a highly esteemed organization providing in-depth information that is worthy of representation in the reference page. 71.218.110.44 (talk) 21:29, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@71.218.110.44 and Lebird66: I have already given my answer to this. You are free to seek other opinions at Talk:Colorado Xplosion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:41, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Instructor request

I wanted to clarify whether in your message on Jialeijiang's talk page. Are you asking whether it's ok to ask an instructor to review their students' work before they post to mainspace? I think it's a fair request, since these students seem to need more help. I'm not sure how much they actually visit Wikipedia (almost all of their edits are semi-automated edits made via the Dashboard) so I'm going to ask Helaine to chat with them. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:11, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ian (Wiki Ed): Yes, that is what I was asking. I haven't been involved with the WikiEdu project so I'm not sure what the protocols are there, but it seems reasonable to me that if a teacher is taking students through the Wikipedia editing process that they should be reviewing the edits before allowing them to go live. I have, in the past, found that many WikiEdu students require quite a bit of mentoring before they can become truly helpful Wikipedia editors. Mass scale vandalism

A user is doing mass scale unexplained reverting of other editors' edits in the pages: Paite language, Churachandpur, Hmar people, Thadou people. At first, I used to undo some of them but I think I need help from some experienced anti-vandal wiki users. The reverting adds a lot of un-referenced unverified information to the articles. Thanks! Uni of Sheffield controversy

Why don't we add the private investigator section to the previous subheading instead of removal? The decision has been criticised publicly and is noteworthy. ShimmeringShroom (talk) 12:46, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ShimmeringShroom: The sense I got from the sources is that the investigation itself is the controversial issue, having the appearance of retaliation against students exercising their free speech rights.[Notes 1] But as I look more closely at the sources, the use of a private investigator for the investigation has been seen as being especially heavy-handed. I have revised the sentence to include the hiring of a private investigator. I still don't think the matter deserves its own section head, however. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you on the section heading, as I hadn't thought to add it to the previous one. I have a particular interest in this subject as I'm a student at a Sheffield Hallam University and the hiring of a private investigator certainly perpetuates the idea that such institutions are becoming increasingly privatised, and thus, controlling. This is a very prominent issue and Hallam have been guilty of equally invasive acts against students (hiring private security, monitoring student's communications, putting police on campus etc). ShimmeringShroom (talk) 19:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ShimmeringShroom: I recommend for the sake of neutrality that you try to keep your own perspective on the issue out of the article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:27, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is the ideal :) ShimmeringShroom (talk) 23:17, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hypochnella

Hello,

You changed the word "septate" to "septa" on the Hypnella page. This is not a case of wrongly spelling the plural word; septate is an adjactive and the frasing "simple septate" is used in mycology to describe the how the spepta are arranged in the hyphae.

Regards Glyphipterix (talk) 22:13, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Glyphipterix: Apologies. Your sentence structure was complex, and it was unclear that you were using septate as an adjective to modify generative hyphae. Thanks for pointing out my error. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:21, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US Speakers

I think either @Surtsicna: or @Golbez: may remember where the RFC was held. My mind is a blank. It was about removing trivial info from pages of office holder lists. GoodDay (talk) 22:03, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I'd consider the duration of tenure for Speakers of the House to be "trivial". I would not create a whole separate table for it; rather I think the information could be added as a sortable column in the existing table. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 00:14, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GoodDay: I've replied to the discussion at your talk page. I've changed my mind about the duration column, as it already sufficiently represented. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:33, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Light for the World - Wikipedia page

Dear Dan,

My name is Elisa Fourt and I am the current Head of Global Communications for Light for the World. We just updated the entire Wikipedia page of the organisation but I have just seen that you reverted all the changes. I would like to understand why and to know how to switch the content back to what we just updated? Looking forward to hearing from you,

Thanks in advance,

Elisa Fourt E.fourt (talk) 15:13, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@E.fourt: Thank you for identifying your role with Light for the World. I urge you to read Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy. I reverted your edits at Light for the World because they were mostly promotional. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:15, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, 77.72.238.178 (talk) 10:46, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61 - Thanks for the information, I had not seen / read this page before doing the update. I acknowledge that some sources that I added came directly from the organisation's website but I don't really see these as promotional but rather objective (eg: financial figures directly from the annual report). In any case, I did not mean to violate the Wikipedia protocols - just to provide more up-to-date / relevant /accurate information about the organization. Nasrat Khalid

Keepcalmail (talk) 07:04, 26 April 2023 (UTC) Hello, hope you are doing good. Can you please review this page I have published, It is being Nominated for deletion. Nasrat Khalid. I have received an email from one of the Wikipedia Admins, he says that if the article is deleted I will be banned from wikipedia fro 5 years and then he has forwarded the mail to someone from https://www.wikiproficiency.com/ and they are saying that they will assist in getting new articles, I feel this is some kind of scam. They have nominated my article for deletion and now trying to sell their services, so that my article gets published.[reply]

@Keepcalmail: I agree with the assessment that Khalid is notable solely for founding Aseel (website), and will recommend that the article be reduced to a redirect to the Aseel page. However, the email about being banned and the link to the Wikiproficiency site do feel very scammy. In general, Wikipedia contributors are not banned for having written an article that gets deleted. The Khalid article does not feel overly promotional, and even if it were, you would not get blocked for just the one article. You'd have to engage in a pattern of repeated promotion before that happened. Did the Wikipedia administrator identify themselves with a Wikipedia username? This sounds like an incident that should be reported to actual Wikipedia administrators. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:16, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Keepcalmail: I'd urge you to read Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Scam warning. Apparenly, what you've experience is a common scam. Don't fall for it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:25, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

curious why you reversed my edits to the Elwyn page? ElwynEditor (talk) 16:32, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ElwynEditor: I reverted your edit primarily because none of the information you added was verifiable because you didn't cite any sources, and secondarily because of your obvious conflict of interest as indicated by your username. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:18, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for that information. I signed up for an account today, so I haven't had the chance to review all the rules/regulations, obviously! This is a very old nonprofit organization, and I asked a historian to write a more detailed summary of the founding of the organization, which he did. But most of the information he shared with me has been published in journals, etc., as he is a recognized expert on the history of these institutions. So, I think with a little work I can find those published records and have someone - maybe that author - post them and cite the sources. I certainly didn't mean to violate the Wikipedia protocols - and in thinking about it understand why they are in place. I just want you to know that this is objective information, and it a much more accurate reflection of the history of this organization. I'll take the appropriate steps to make sure it is posted correctly. thanks. ElwynEditor (talk) 20:30, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ElwynEditor: I didn't feel the material was non-neutral, just unsourced. Also, given the writing style (which is more reminiscent of what one might find on your organization's own website than from an independent third party) I was not sure that the material had not been copied from somewhere else. Thank you for explaining the source of the material. Since I presume you are paying the historian for this advanced research, if you do ask them to update the Wikipedia page, please be sure to inform them of the requirements for paid editors. W. Russell Neuman

What can we do to update this page with new information. Update was removed. Wrneuman (talk) 20:38, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wrneuman: Given your apparent conflict of interest, you should follow the guidelines available at that link; specifically you should not edit the file directly, but rather make edit requests at the article's talk page. When requesting changes, be prepared to provide reliable sources that verify the updated information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:53, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update

Apologies, I'm a little confused. I tried the COI Wizard but was denied access. My understanding is that because of COI rules I should request an edit rather the direct edit to a BLP if COI is a potential problem. I've done so https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:W._Russell_Neuman. I've added *Reasons for change and *References supporting change. There is clearly nothing controversial or commercial. The edits are mostly bibliographic. Please let me know if additional sourcing is needed. I'm not sure what else needs to be sourced. My hope is to get back to something like the page you removed but with all the necessary rules being addressed. Wrneuman (talk) 14:18, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wrneuman: I reviewed your request and noted the problems, but we can discuss further if needed. First, you state that each of the substantive statements has a <ref> or draws from the cited publication, but you have not added any "<ref>" tags within your request. Second, we can add your bibliography, as the existence of the books is sort of self-verifying, but the biographical information that accompanied the request, including any conclusions drawn from the publications (such as The key to the paradox of mass politics is the activity of this tiny stratum of persons who follow political issues with care and expertise.) would have to rely on third-party coverage (e.g. reviews of the works) rather than your own conclusions. By the way, I don't know what the COI Wizard is. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:52, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Next Step?

I've added <ref>s or multiple <refs> to each of the substantive paragraphs in my proposed update on my editing talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=W._Russell_Neuman&action=edit&editintro=Template:BLP_editintro The OSTP reports were originally classified. Not sure of current status. I've cited one 2005 report which is not currently online but perhaps could be tracked down if a reader was particularly interested. I'm not sure about Wikipolicy in such matters.

Are we ready to publish? Do I do that? Do you do that? Wrneuman (talk) 19:19, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wrneuman: No, you haven't. There are no inline reference tags in the talk page text that you have suggested. Perhaps you need to read WP:Citing sources for help. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:38, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for my limited familiarity with the talk page logistics. I've been editing away at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:W._Russell_Neuman&action=submit#editform Editing Talk:W. Russell Neuman (section) which tells me "This is only a preview; your changes have not yet been saved!" I haven't pressed the publish button on that page, pending your review. Is that why you are not seeing the references? Wrneuman (talk) 22:03, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wrneuman: When you edit a page, you can preview the edits to see what the edited page will look like before committing the changes to the Wikipedia database, but unless you actually publish the changes, your edits will not be available for others to see. As of this time, I still do not see any inline <ref>...</ref> tags in Talk:W. Russell Neuman. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:25, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK I've published the talk page. Wrneuman (talk) 12:38, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wrneuman: I've started to look through your sources, and I've found something that makes me unready to accept your editing suggestions. You've cited your paper "Patterns of Recall among Television News Viewers" (Public Opinion Quarterly, Spring 1976) and noted that Time Magazine could not resist needling their broadcast competitors by characterizing the finding of the study as “In one rabbit ear and out the other.” here implying that Time was responding to your article, but the Time piece you've quoted and cited was published 5 years before your article. I'll edit that piece out before publishing your requested content. Are there any other pitfalls I should be aware of? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:17, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wrneuman: Investigating further, I find several claims of involvement in research, but your name does not appear among the authors of said research, so these citations do not adequately verify your involvement. For the time being, until better verification can be found, I will limit this content in the actual article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:42, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Those are my graduate students. The cite I used is rather obscure. I'll find a better one. There were about a half dozen articles published by the grad students from that Pew Foundation grant. Wrneuman (talk) 14:12, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Replaced with Stromer-Galley, Jennifer (2000). "Online Interaction and Why Candidates Avoid It." Journal of Communication 50(4): 111-132.
Jennifer Stromer-Galley is a doctoral student at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include political communication, rhetorical theory and criticism, and new technology. Part of this research was funded by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts. The author would like to thank Aiyeh Aslan and Carly Salaman for their assistance with the 1998 interviews, as well as Heather Ross and Alana Nappi for their assistance in the 1998 website analysis. She also thanks W. Russell Neuman, Karlyn Kohrs Campbell, Kathleen Hall Jamieson, and the anonymous reviewers for their insights and critical comments on earlier drafts of this essay. Wrneuman (talk) 14:24, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I published that article based on a study I did as a graduate student years before. My supervisor Andy Stern reported on the findings at the time of the study at the National Association of Broadcasters Annual Conference. It was the NAB talk that drew the attention of Time. I'm happy to cite Andy's talk as well.
I appreciate this close attention. It's why Wikipedia has a good rep. Wrneuman (talk) 13:44, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The NAB comment refers to the news audience recall study. Wrneuman (talk) 13:47, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited the Time quote to note that it responds to the NAB report on the study. Wrneuman (talk) 14:25, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wrneuman: Unfortunately, citing your students' papers does not verify your research because your name is not listed among the authors. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:51, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello WikiDan61,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Editing Loso wikipedia

Hello @WikiDan61.

I'm a big fan of Loso, I have read loso wikipedia then I think the wiki should be update, because the information available about Loso is scarce.

And some information I think it should be in seksan sukpimai wiki more. such as "Through the music videos and his appearance as pitchman for the M-150 brand energy drink....the ballad "Teh Yang Thai" ("เท่อย่างไทย"), is another hit.", "Sek, meanwhile, had aspirations beyond the Thai music scene: In Thai music terminology.....auditioning prospects by having them perform the entire Hendrix album, Are You Experienced." mentioned above it's not associated with Loso it's shoud be in seksan sukpimai wiki.

I will update this wiki, for complete information by translating from Loso wiki in Thai language. I spent a long time to translate, you should read this wiki to the end, Please don't delete or revert to the old version. If any part is wrong, Please edit it.

I hope you will understand and if you will retaliat me please answer me here.

Thank you. Khemmarin wannalo (talk) 04:14, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have a doubts

It’s possible to pass revision of a new page, i will compensate you Allucard69 (talk) 21:49, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Allucard69: There are over 6 million articles on the English Wikipedia, so clearly it is possible to get articles published. And thank you, no, I do not wish compensation to help you with this article. I will tell you that your latest sources are better, in that they appear to be more independent and less sources written by Raptoreum itself (although, if this Medium article wasn't written by a Raptoreum employee, they should definitely hire him as marketing staff!). Still, I see no evidence that Raptoreum has received any interest beyond a few hard-core crypto hackers. Until Raptoreum has been noticed and covered by major financial or general news outlets, or event tech news outlets like Techworld, it's unlikely to be considered a notable crypto-currency. Social Media Analytics Page

Hello WikiDan! I am new to wikipedia, and figuring it out. I believe that the "Social Media Analytics" page, almost in its entirety, is duplicative of work found under pages like "Data Analysis" and "Data Science." However, I when I removed these duplicative sections from the article, you reverted that change, without a clear indication as to why. Can you please give an example in which any whole section that I removed from that page is not already covered under "Data Analysis" or "Data Science?" Or otherwise respond to my point about the duplicative nature of the article? I'd like to better understand how wikipedia as a community handles this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OilFresh (talkcontribs) 06:59, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As I mentioned in my edit summary, you removed a large swath of sourced material. That's generally a red flag, especially when it is your first action as a registered user. You also moved the "Role in international politics" section to a much more prominent position in the article. I would recommend that you discuss such large-scale changes on the article's talk page before making such major changes. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:18, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I left a comment in the talk page.

Cameroon Page

What evidence do you need on Cameroon sharing links to both West and Central Africa when there is a raft if narrative on the Cameroon Wikipedia page to confirm this. I think you should actually read the yourself to see why Cameroon is not solely claimed to be Central Africa. Teeyawiki (talk) 12:51, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article lead already includes the sentence Due to its strategic position at the crossroads between West Africa and Central Africa, it has been categorized as being in both camps. What more prominence is needed? Geographically, the country is in Central Africa, so that should be stated plainly, with the "crossroads" information coming later. And, although several of the article's citations group Cameroon into discussions of West Africa, the article makes no other mention of the fact. I think the lead is sufficient as it was prior to your change. Apparently others agree with me. You need to open a discussion at Talk:Cameroon if you feel so strongly about changing things. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:08, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Geographically" it is very subjective. You may view it as central, whilst another may view it as west, and other others may see it in both camps. Central Africa is more of a UN regional designation which is rather focused on the economic and political identity and bears little to no context in so far as history and culture are concerned. Thus, the reason it is imperative that the Central African designation be coined along geopolitics. Just stating it is Central African at face value without relating the country to its strong ties to West Africa is very incorrect and vague. Teeyawiki (talk) 14:51, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello WikiDan61,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

False information for Brother Speed Motorcycle Club

Hello. I responded to a post you left regarding false information on the Brother Speed Motorcycle Club page. I asked a question to a reference you'd made about a statement in an article that was made over 30 years ago and you suggested that the article "...the report is over 30 years old, and unless actual prosecutions followed, we have no way of verifying the truth of these accusations. The text of the article should reflect this." My question is how I (or anyone else) can ammend the page to simply state this reflection? I would appreciate anything you can suggest. Sir about the Banga Caste article

I have Added Official Links of the Websites of Saini Community and the Sikh Community supporting my Claims. I Expanded the dedicated to Saini Banga Personalities. Which was previously redirected to Saini Caste Page. Which doesn't contain anything about Banga Sub-Caste.I myself belong to this Same Sub-Caste and Clan. So Please Look Into it.

Also if i will be Grateful if you look into the saini Page it has been Vandalized by Admantine123 since (14 August 2020) I don't want to accuse anybody about anything but Admantine123 has Mixed up two Clans (Mali Saini's) who actually adopted the Title of Saini in 1930 for Benefits. Previously they were Known as Malis and the Saini's who actually have ShoorSaini lineage. Also the Page Saini Surname has also been Vandalized With the Added Elements of Mali Caste.

The Official Clan websites of Both Communities acknowledge it. •http://www.sainimalisamaj.com/http://www.sainionline.com/neo-saini-groups/post-1930-appropriation-of-saini-identity-by-mali-caste

Also the Mali Saini Caste page has been Redirected to Saini Caste Page after the Edit.

Joseph Mc Ginley wiki page

Hi,

Many thanks for the corrections on the Joseph Mc Ginley Wikipedia page. I would like to know however why the book Dr Mc Ginley and his times is noted as an unreliable source by you? The author gleamed all his information from Dr Mc Ginley's contemporaries and revolutionary comrades who were still alive at the time. The book is available in the Irish library system and to order online, although they copies are hard to get now, if you need check for yourself. Rockypopod (talk) 17:08, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rockypopod: As I noted in the "unreliable source" tag, the reason the source was deemed possibly unreliable is that the book was self-published, by an author of no recognized historical expertise. Being self-published, it is likely that no editorial oversight or fact-checking process was involved, so there is no way to establish that we can trust this source of information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:16, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi wikidan,
My apologies for the thoughtless removal of the unreliable source tag. As I am familiar with the author who is a very capable UCD english graduate, and a son of Joseph Mc Ginley. Many of Dr Mc Ginley's old comrades were still alive at the time and he was able to inview them about their experiences. Personally, to me, a book being published by a known publisher is not mark of honesty and fact. Countless, well known biographies bear testimony to this. All editors have an agenda. I understand Wikipedia's positon though and they can only go by what information they can get online.
Kind regards Rockypopod (talk) 14:27, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Rockypopod: The issue isn't whether the information is available online. The question is whether the information is reliable. Books in print that are accessible at any public library are acceptable as references, if they are reliable sources. Unfortunately, a book about McGinley, self-published by his son, a "capable UCD english [sic] graduate" (but not a trained historian), is not a reliable source. I strongly urge you to read Wikipedia's guidelines on reliable sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:41, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rockypopod: I don't think the RTE appearance is sufficient to establish him as a subject-matter expert on the topic of the Irish War of Independence, and since he was McGinley's son, the matter of his neutrality is questionable. However, to avoid this being a discussion of me vs. you, I'm going to copy this discussion to Talk:Joseph McGinley, and then post a notices at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard to alert other editors of the issue and allow them to weigh in. Jay Mather Wikipedia page

You wrote to me about my page which you are somewhat correct. I did write most of this after someone else wrote the initial page with many errors. I don't know who the initial author is and if there is to be a page about me I want it to be correct. Thanks for letting me know.

Jay Mather Yosemitejaym (talk) 16:28, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yosemitejaym: As noted in the welcome message that I left you, If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page. If you propose changes at Talk:Jay Mather, please be specific about the changes you'd like to see, in the form of "From:... / To:...". And be prepared to provide reliable sources for the changes you propose. Yes, this is ostensibly an article about you, but Wikipedia is less interested in what you'd like the article to say than about what reliable sources have said about you. Also, because Wikipedia accounts are anonymous, we really only have your word on the matter that you are really the person in question, so reliable sources really do matter. Draft rejection

Just a notice. A draft you seem to have rejected on 20 October 2023 (rejection notice here), was moved to the main space on 28 October. (Draft - post move} This article is being used to support notability on another wiki. Pure Evil (talk) 03:41, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

D (also known as dlang) vs V (also known as vlang)

In the list of programming languages, it was undone by you for V (also known as vlang). The change was made after I saw that there was D (also known as dlang) and extra bits of info added to the other languages as well. Are you going to remove the extra info from all the other languages too? Wukuendo (talk) 17:25, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wukuendo: You may restore it if you like. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:15, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Submission Declined

Hello, I saw that you declined my submission on Chris Del Borrello. You said that because he was only a councilman, he is unlikely to meet the standards for notability of a politician. However, he is also the CCO for the DelBorrello group, a banking institution run by his family that does major deals. Couldn’t he been considered notable under these standards? Antny08 (talk) 14:34, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Antny08: You haven't added any indications of significant coverage for Del Borrello's role as CCO, and based on my searches, you're not likely to find any. Del Borrello Group appears to be a small, family-run local business with little to no significant coverage in reliable sources. I would say that, given what coverage I have seen, Del Borrello's involvement with his family business is more of a hindrance then a help to his political aspirations. Del Borrello Submission

Hello, thank you for your feedback. Just wanted to say that I found 5 more significant sources that are unbiased and independent! I submitted it for review, hope it’s good!! Antny08 (talk) 11:47, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Antny08: I'm on the fence about this. I still don't see Del Borrello meeting notability yet: he appears to have been caught up in some larger political shenanigans of which he was just a pawn. But, I have worked to clean up your draft a bit, and I won't decline it again, allowing other reviewers to weigh in. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:42, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, I appreciate your honest responses, and I will continue to improve my draft based off of your input! Antny08 (talk) 12:50, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WikiDan61,

I am concerned that the draft was created by a hospitality marketing agency. Can you scrub the article for advertising and possible promotions? I also am tagging it for UDP. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 22:39, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

From Rockypopod re Joseph McGinley

Hi WikiDan,

I am in the process of getting permission from the estate of the artist Sean O Suilleabhain for copyright permission to use his portrait of Dr Mc Ginley on the Dr Mc Ginley Wikipedia page. Could you tell me in what form the permission should be, who it should be addressed to and whom I should post it to on this site?

Kind regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rockypopod (talkcontribs) 11:06, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rockypopod: First, please place talk page entries at the bottom of the talk page to maintain chronological order. Second, the estate Sean O Suilleabhain will need to contact the Wikimedia Foundation directly to grant permission to use his portrait. But recognize that, in so doing, they will give up any control of the image, and anyone who choses to do so may use the image in any way they see fit, as long as they credit Sean O Suilleabhain as the original artist. His estate needs to understand the rights they are giving over. If they agree to this, I'll refer you to WP:Donating copyrighted material for specific instructions on how to do so. Richard Thompson - Chairman ECB

Hi WikiDan61

Andy McGrath here. Head of Chair's Office for Richard Thompson who is Chairman @ M&C Saatchi Merlin / M&C Saatchi UK Group / England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Some of the info on Richard's page is midleading. The title is listed as Richard Thompson (Cricket Administrator) which is incorrect. Can this be changed please to read as below:

Richard William Thompson - Chairman @ M&C Saatchi Merlin / M&C Saatchi UK Group / England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Richard did not create this page - hence the information being incorrect / misleading

Feel fee to call me to discuss over tel call if easier +44 7740 43 43 07

Thanks

Andy McGrath

Head of Chair's Office RWTHOMP (talk) 13:35, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@RWTHOMP: The title of the page includes a parenthetical phrase "(cricket administrator)" because, presumably, that is what he is most widely known for. His accomplishments as Chair of M&C Saatchi may be more important to him, but to a general encyclopedia reader, the only reason most people have heard of him is because of his role in cricket, so when they type the name "Richard Thompson" in the search bar, it will bring them to the Richard Thompson page that lists multiple people with that name. If they are curious about the guy involved in cricket, they will click on that entry to get to your boss' biography. It is not incorrect that Thompson is a "cricket administrator". The title you suggest is too long for a Wikipedia title, but all of the information you have noted is already included in Thompson's biography. I suggest you read up on Wikipedia's guidance on article titles, specifically the section on precision and disambiguation. I note that this biography was created relatively recently (7 May 2023; after Thompson's appointment to the Cricket Board), so, clearly, this is the thing that made him a known name.
I will note that, since you claim to work for Thompson, you are required to disclose this relationship, especially if you are being paid specifically to correct his Wikipedia page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WikiDan61
Many thanks for your response. For clarity and transparency, I have been employed by Mr. Thompson since Nov 2016 and I manage all his business affairs and also work on personal matters. My title is 'Head of Chair's Office'
Could the title of 'cricket administrator' be changed to read 'Cricket/Advertising'?
Could the below also be added to his page
Chairman (Non-Exec) - Mama Group 2012-2015
Founder and Chairman of – SUAD (Sport United Against Dementia) 2020 to present
Please note that he is a 'Freeman of the City of London' as opposed to Haberdashers Company. Could you please update this so it is reflected correctly on the page
Finally - could you please add Mr. Thompson's LinkedIn to this page
linkedin.com/in/richard-thompson-ba67ba83
Many thanks for all of your help / advice. It's very much appreciated.
Kind regards.
Andy McGrath

@RWTHOMP and 212.161.37.162: If you feel strongly about having the page title changed, I suggest you follow the directions at WP:Requested moves. As for the other requests, I suggest you make an edit request at Talk:Richard Thompson (cricket administrator). You'll need to have reliable sources to verify the changes you'd like to see made. Talk For Battle of Bhupalgarh 1679

Oh idiot why did you remove my article I had also given references in my article why did you remove it Varmakumar200 (talk) 12:55, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Varmakumar200: First, please refrain from making personal attacks against your fellow editors. I removed it because, while it was cited, it appears you just copied the text verbatim from the page you referenced, even to the point of beginning mid-sentence from the source material, and you gave no indication about how the material regarding the fortification of Khanderi was at all related to the Battle of Bhupalgarh. It may well be that this fortification was part of that battle, but there is no text either in the source or in the Wiki article to tie the two events together.
In this subsequent edit, you have again just copied a single page of the source (Shivaji and his times), beginning in the middle of one sentence (dragged some guns to the top...) and ending in the middle of another (...doing great havoc among the enemy with his). If you're going to copy source material (always a bad idea, but at least this source material appears to be out of copyright), at least copy it intact. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have not read the correct reference it is clearly written that Mughal General Diler Khan had defeated Maratha read it again
The name of this book is Shivaji his time page number is 365 Again, don't delete my article Whatever article I write I write it within the context Varmakumar200 (talk) 15:08, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Varmakumar200: I reverted your edit because, once again, you simply copied a page of text from the source that you cited, without regard for the fact that the page begins mid-sentence and ends mid-sentence. You shouldn't be copying the text verbatim in any case, but if you're going to do it, copy all of the text in context (i.e. the beginning of the paragraph on the prior page and the end of the paragraph on the subsequent page). And I will not comply with your "order" not to delete you contributions if I continue to find that they are disruptive or unhelpful. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:15, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I copy paste from books only, not from articles and my article is subject to reference and my article is not wrong and I do not write anything on my own, I copy paste from books and also give references. And from now on you will not delete my articles, understood Varmakumar200 (talk) 16:09, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Varmakumar200: Yes, but you copy incomplete information from books, so it is not helpful. And clearly, you do not understand the cooperative nature of the Wikipedia project. You do not own the articles that you edit at Wikipedia; any other editor is free to change what you have added if it is not useful. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:12, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And the Bhupalgarh war page also does not have complete information that page is also based on only one reference and I have given reference only to the article I had written so I am saying the right thing but you are forcing it Varmakumar200 (talk) 17:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Varmakumar200: You are failing to understand my message, which is not surprising because your grasp of English appears limited. I'll try to explain clearly:

  1. You should not just blindly copy text from other sources. You should instead use those sources to create a narrative in your own words.
  2. If you absolutely must copy blindly from another source, please be sure to copy complete sentences, rather than just starting your copy operation in the middle of a sentence.
  3. Sources written 100 years ago are considered less reliable than more recent sources, because historical scholarship has improved in the past 100 years.
  4. When you do add content to an article, please try to tie it in to the context of the rest of the article rather than just dumping a block of text into an article. If your material doesn't connect to the rest of the material, it does nothing to improve the article.

I saw that you reverted Asmahadad23 on Human genetic enhancement. He made strange edits to Diagnosis of autism and he used false references. He added a whole paragraph about misdiagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with percentages and reasons and it was referenced by an article about misdiagnosis of hernias in children. Nothing at all to do with ASD. Another paragraph on the same subject was referenced to a paper on "Misdiagnosis and mistreatment of uterine myxoid leiomyosarcoma" which, again, has no bearing on ASD. I didn't look at his specific edits to Human genetic enhancement but it is worth keeping an eye on him. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 00:46, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to add, at the same time Asmahadad23 was making his edits, Lenah_aldalati was making creative edits like this adding a whole wall of text in Nervous system diseases all sourced to one article entitled "Wound infections: an overview" that has nothing to do with nervous system diseases. They both claim to be editing on behalf of Uskudar University [3] [4] which means there are probably more people making bad edits like this in science and medicine articles. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 00:53, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ThaddeusSholto: If you think you've noticed a problematic pattern, you should report it at WP:ANI. I'm not an admin, so I can't do anything about it except to revert individual edits. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:31, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK I filed a report at WP:ANI. Thank you. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 16:10, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
