Since you're using a lot of refs and I just cleaned up some of the Baha'i Faith by country article, I want to mention that you should try using the {{harvnb|last|year|p=}} template inside refs whenever possible. It cuts down enormously on the clutter. When you do that, make sure the citation is in the references. There are plenty of examples on the main Baha'i Faith article.

Primary sources

Hello Wiki-uk. Great work on the new article, but be wary of using primary sources such as Abdu'l-Baha's writings as sources. Articles should be based on secondary and tertiary sources. MobileReference publications

While trying to track down who it was who added citations to MobileReference's Travel Goa to various Wikipedia articles, I noticed that you have made a tremendous number of contributions to articles on Asia and the Middle East. Congratulations on all your fine work.

Unfortunately, MobileReference's Travel Goa is a fork of Wikipedia—as are many of its other publications—and hence is disqualified by Wikipedia's policy on verifiability from serving as a reference that can be cited in Wikipedia articles. I am letting you know this because you seem have been responsible for citing it in a few articles. I have now removed all citations to it that I have been able to find. If you know of any others I'd appreciate it if you'd remove those as well (or, alternatively, let me know and Ill do it myself). Thanks.

Mulla Husayn

Allah-u-Abha! I was wondering if I could get some help expanding the Mulla Husayn page. I've worked on it a bit but about half the article was basically just copied and pasted without citation from the glossary of the Iqan. I only really have three books which go into any depth on Mulla Husayn himself (God Passes By, The Dawn-breakers, and Release The Sun, which tend to rely on the same stories anyway) I was wondering if you possibly had access to more diverse sources? Garden of Ridván

I'm thinking of submitting Garden of Ridván, Baghdad to DYK, since it's undergone a five-fold expansion since your first edit on April 21st—from 888 characters to around 4742 characters currently. However, around 790 characters were copied from the Ridván article, so we're missing around 489 characters to make it a true fivefold expansion (DYK rules state that text copied from other articles doesn't count for eligibility). I was thinking of writing a little more about the establishment of the Baghdad Royal Hospital and Baghdad Medical City on the site in the 20th century, but I can't find much in English about that. There seems to be one PDF in Arabic about the history of Iraqi hospitals, but I can't read Arabic and it doesn't copy & paste into Google Translate properly. Just throwing out ideas - a small section on prophetic understanding of the 1863 proclamation - for example:

1,290 Days
In "Some Answered Questions" (Wilmette: Baha'i Publishing Trust, 1984), pages 43-44, Abdu'l-Baha interprets the prophecy concerning the 1,290 days in the following terms:
The beginning of this lunar reckoning is from the day of the proclamation of the prophethood of Muhammad in the country of Hijaz; and that was three years after His mission, because in the beginning the prophethood of Muhammad was kept secret, and no one knew it save Khadijah and Ibn Nawfal. After three years it was announced. And Baha'u'llah, in the year 1290 from the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad, caused His manifestation to be known.
Note that the Master indicates that, in this instance, time is measured by the "lunar" calendar. Since the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad took place ten years prior to the Hegira, i.e., His flight from Mecca to Medina, from which date the Muslim calendar begins, the year 1290 from the proclamation of the mission of Muhammad was the year 1280 of the Hegira, or 1863-64 A.D.
There are references to 1,290 days in "God Passes By", on pages 110 and 151. In these passages, Shoghi Effendi confirms that the Declaration of Baha'u'llah in Baghdad, which occurred in 1863 (1280 A.H.), represents the fulfilment of the 1,290 days.

from [1] but it's probably the letter from the research dept could be used directly. Say something like Baha'i authorities have linked this event with the "1290 days" prophecy from.... Specifically that the dates are calculated, in typical Baha'i fashion, across religions.... something like that. There might also be a line or so about Mormon prophecies - need a better source but consider [2] as a starting point(the bit about wearing red dyed garments.) Hmm, not a bad idea, although that facet of the Ridván festival is probably best covered in Ridván; it doesn't have as much to do with the physical garden itself, but with the events of Ridván. What I've tried to do with the Garden article is to have it focus on the physical garden. I deliberately didn't add much more about the Ridván festival to avoid duplication with the other article. Maybe consider adding a section on the 1290 days to Ridván, perhaps as a subsection to "Significance"? Myself, I've been thinking of adding a section to that one about the festival as it's celebrated in the world today and historically, including references to the election of institutions during the period, and so on.

By the way, the Garden article as it stands has just passed DYK (!! goes so fast nowadays), which means we can take a little breath before continuing if we'd like ;) --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 13:39, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You duplicated an image of mine and made changes including removing all my caption links. Why, please?

On May 30, you duplicated an image of mine - File:Inuksuit in Auyuittuq, Nunavut.jpg - and suggested or made a name change, plus removing all my caption links - the links, of course could be used by Wikipedia readers to get to related pages easily. Well, no, things are not entirely "OK", thanks for hoping... I mentioned 4 things which you haven't yet addressed, all more important than the image's description changes you made, IMO:

1. You duplicated my file, thus complicating things for me... Why, please?

2. You changed and now deleted the image's caption... Why, please?

3. Your initial changes to the caption deleted all links and made it longer... Why, please?

4. Why did you change the image's description, please?

It seems to me that all these changes are at best non-constructive and more likely destructive (as was deleting my initial post on your talk page, which I can no longer refer to, before things were resolved). I can't claim to read your mind and would like to know WHY these changes were made to my image, please. To what benefit, from your perspective? Hi, I have restored your initial post above, and have undone the changes that I made to the image page for File:Inuksuit in Auyuittuq, Nunavut.jpg.

1. I can't find where you see a duplicate image, unless you are referring to File:Inuksuit in Auyuittuq Park.jpg, both files look similar and were uploaded by you on 28 November 2019 around 06:00 a.m. I checked Commons category:Inuksuit in Nunavut and can't find anything else, but maybe I am overlooking something. Please let me know where I can find a link to a duplicate if this is not what you are referring to.

2. There are wikilinks in the image caption, but as far as I understand, the links don't work in that field, readers can't click on them, not in the web version and also not in the mobile app. Please correct me if I am wrong, maybe I never realized that it works, I have actually never seen links in this field.

3 and 4. By changing e.g. W:Akshayak Pass into Akshayak Pass, the link still sends the reader to Wikipedia, but the reader will not see the initial "W:" which refers to Wikipedia. See also Help:Piped link on Meta Wiki. Please let me know if I misinterpret anything here too.

P.S. Re: 2: This is also why I had deleted the image caption. If the links don't work there, but you want the readers to be able to use the links, then in my view it is better not to have use the image caption, but use only the description, which does appear in the mobile app when the image caption is not filled. Another consideration that came to mind: One of the reasons why I add image captions is that many images don't have a description and/or caption, or have a very long description. When these images are used on Wikipedia pages or other projects, and readers click on the image, there is no description what the image represents. When a page has many images and a lot of text, e.g. pages about painters, writers, philosophers etc., but the reader doesn't not have the time or does not take the effort to read the whole text, he/she can swipe through the images on that page and get a more complete view about the subject in a short time (art works, timelines etc.). So I usually start from such a page, where the reader already has got an idea about the context. This is of course different when a reader/viewer finds a picture somewhere through a search engine on Commons or elsewhere, and has no idea about the context. Sorry for the delay @Wiki-uk:, I'd completed this and was about to send it when I lost it all because my 'net went down, so now I'm doing things first in a text editor :-). First, if you'll recall, I didn't ask you to undo everything, I merely asked "What were your reasons, please?". Now you've finally given me those, so thank you. Re the previous Points:

1. You have my apologies - I noticed the duplication of that photo at the same time I discovered your changes and I put 2 and 2 together and got 5 ;-(. I thought it must have been you and I was wrong. So now I'll delete one of them.

2. Thank you for pointing out Commons:File_captions#FAQ and what I find fascinating is that both it and you appear wrong to me. I've been linking text in captions ever since I arrived (and testing them to make sure they work), for 2 reasons:

On the web with my laptop, a simple mouseover on the linked word in a caption yields a pop-up with the infobox photo and the article's opening text up right away. This allows a reader to quickly see the text and a picture of the item, along with the full article's title, which I often avoid to save space in caption text, without spending the extra mouse-click and associated time to bring up the actual article, which may well be enough.
On an iPhone or iPad, the above doesn't work, but on all 3, a mouse-click or a tap on the caption text brings up the article's page.

If you go to 'Canadian Rockies' and check out my infobox photo, you'll find 5 links in the caption text - try them out with mouseover and clicks - if they don't work like I'm saying, please get back to me. They work well for me and my brother. And note that I have about 10 links in the same photo's description - the mouseover works differently there (it shows the article's full title in a box), and the mouse-clicks work.

3. One of my problems was that - if I'm not mistaken - you changed the caption's Baffin Is. to Baffin Island and I like using abbreviations in the caption to try and keep it to 1, 2 or (at most) 3 full lines. And again, a mouseover usually gets you the full article's name.

4. I'm aware of the 'W:' problem and where I had that, you have my apologies once again. I've been meaning to post something related to this at the Teahouse.

Re your P.S., but the links DO work there, in the caption, or please let me know. Re your additional paragraph, I was puzzled why you deleted my caption, so why you add then seems somewhat irrelevant. Anyway, thanks for your responses - I've learned some things. Proposed deletion of List of chapters in Moby-Dick

The article List of chapters in Moby-Dick has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Trivial, unencyclopedic, per WP:LISTN and WP:LISTCRIT. Nearly every notable book has chapters. None need separate articles.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

"Cerealia" painting

Hi, Wiki-uk. Sorry to remove the painting, but it really has nothing to do with the Cerealia festival. More likely, it shows an imagined Floralia, or a May festival (apparently) to judge by the seasonal blossoms in evidence; this is what the Getty foundation experts think. I removed the same picture a couple of months ago; unfortunately we've nothing on Cerialia, though I suppose we could use an image of Ceres instead, to relieve the textual bareness.
