Uploading Non-Free Images

I just uploaded a non-free image to Wikipedia for the first time, and was hoping an editor would be willing to make sure all requirements are done correctly? I'm thinking a smaller version of the PNG might be in order. Would greatly appreciate any pointers before adding it into an article. Thanks in advance! TorBel80 (talk) 18:25, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have resized the image to less than 100,000 pixels in total and changed the license tag (it's not a screenshot). Other than that, everything looks good to me. Thanks! Huon (talk) 19:26, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fair-Use vs. Non-Free Rationale

Is a fair-use rationale the same as a non-free use rationale? I uploaded a few non-free images to Wikipedia with copyright tags and filled out what I believe is a non-free use rationale, but I still get a "To the uploader" message telling me to fill out a detailed fair use rationale. Am I missing something? Do I need another rationale template in there? Also, was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on fixing up the text-image formatting of the Able2extract page I'm working on. I've been reading the image uploading tips you have on Wikipedia about file size, upright images and solutions to image stacking, but I can't seem to get things straightened out in a way that best suits the article text. TorBel80 (talk) 20:54, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TorBel80, The fair-use rationale is the same as a non-free use rationale. You might want to look at File:Adobe Acrobat 11 main window in Windows 8.PNG as a guide for properly done a non-free use image. If you don't get it correct at first, on the upload, you can change it immediately afterward. - tucoxn\talk 22:03, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

A page I have been editing and created is under consideration for deletion Able2extract. Would someone be able to help me with a few suggestions on editing the article? I thought I was within the guidelines. Thanks in advance! TorBel80 (talk) 17:50, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

TorBel80 (talk) 17:50, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article is tagged due to concerns about its notability. Able2extract exists, it has some coverage, but is it really notable enough for an encyclopedia article? Personally I tend to believe the reviews do establish notability, but User:Qwertyus disagrees. Right now, to contest the proposed deletion it suffies to remove the {{Proposed deletion/dated}} template from the top of the page. The page does need quite a bit of work, though: Major sections are completely unsourced, and I doubt secondary sources exist that cover, say, the product history in that much detail. Thus we should probably cut the article down to what is actuall supported by secondary sources.
Also, if you remove the deletion tag, Qwertyus (or someone else) may decide to launch a more formal deletion discussion via the WP:Articles for deletion process. That would result in a week-long discussion where editors evaluate whether the topic is appropriate for an article and establish a consensus on whether the article should be kept or deleted. December 2016

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Able2extract. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
