  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. IPv6

Hi, Tony. I've just seen User:TonyBallioni/Just block the /64. I wonder I it might be worth just adding a note saying that an IPv6 address is one with colons rather than with dots. Possibly by now everybody knows that, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if there are still a few administrators who don't; certainly there were some as recently as just a few years ago. The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.

The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.

This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Attacks after election

I participated in the Arbitration Committee Elections December 2022. For that, I am facing some issues probably. Suppose, my stubbed article Arshiya Das has been nominated for deletion. But the subject is definitely a notable one and she also got recognition Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar from government of India for her outstanding career graph. Ready: whew, an already complex, never-before-attempted endeavor, was made even more difficult with the planned GAR process revamping, so I ended up with more work than envisioned, and seem to have become the coordinator of keeping all the pieces together. Anyway, it's finally launched in a GA subpage, after my attempts to wrangle everyone I could to review. Two things:

Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/February 2023 can now be added to the closing statement.
In the History section of the AN, my original post indicated 233 GAs. My typical typos, the actual number is 223, and that typo could cause some bookkeeping concerns down the road. Is it OK if I go in and add a note below that to correct that typo?

As evidenced by the recent essay by mainstream historians Jan Grabowski and Shira Klein, Wikipedia has allowed severe distortions of history including the insertion of anti-semitic tropes in various articles related to the Holocaust in Poland. Robby.is.on: Wikipedia administrators don't make content decisions. We make conduct decisions. The editor you are discussing is now one of the most prolific sockmasters we have (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/יניב הורון). I wrote a large part of the essay that advocates blocking anti-semites on sight. I certainly agree with you that anything that is anti-semitic should be removed from Wikipedia; the problem with Yaniv is that his approach was and is running around edit warring and attacking anyone who disagreed with him rather than following our established methods for handling such problematic content. While I understand that this has come up again recently, I really don't want to speak about it much more because the topic area has become so toxic that any explanation that strays much beyond 'he had a long history of conduct that fell short of our standards' has the potential to be taken out of context. The edit summary was "rv antisemitic vandalism", clearly referring to the content being reverted. Calling content inserted by another editor who is not an anti-semitic troll “antisemitic vandalism” is a personal attack, He called an established editor a vandal over a content dispute, and no, it was commenting on a contributor, bot content. – I disagree. Adding anti-semitic content or being accused of this does not necessarily mean one is anti-semitic the same way doing a stupid thing does not necessarily make one stupid.
Wikipedia administrators don't make content decisions. If you're judging an editor for their description of another editor's content addition you're making a content decision. Imagine you'd be knowledgeable to enough to judge whether certain content is anti-semitic and content that is clearly anti-semitic were called out as such. Would that still be wrong? Yaniv had and long history of behavior that violated policies and guidelines, and there were many sanctions leading up to his block. If any other editor had acted in this way about any other topic area, they would have been blocked as well.
While I appreciate your concerns, the banned user who appears to be the source of framing these accusations has waged a years-long campaign targeting individuals off-wiki for any action that he disagrees with. The employment and family of those in this topic area have been subject to abuse as well. I do not feel comfortable responding beyond what I have said given that the source of this journal article appears to be Icewhiz, a serial violator of the English Wikipedia's policy on harassment. He has renamed the user page to hide that same user uploaded the image. Is is COI as well ?

User account created on 14 April 2020 similar to Iamfrzu07 and after block of Iamfrzu07, which was Created on 14 March 2020

I see you closed an RFC on race and intelligence that determined that racial hederitarianism is fringe. Specifically I didn't repost the deleted article (I was unaware one had been written, much less deleted). Hi Lfstevens, it was recently deleted at AfD. While there were differences in the article and the AfD had some other concerns, there was an overall consensus at the AfD that a business plan is not notable. I don't think it is within the intent of the policy that we should have two AfDs within a month to determine the same policy point, even if there are differences in the specific wording/sourcing. If you want others to review it, you can contest at WP:DRV. Please just let me know if you decide to go that route. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:44, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
It seems that if two editors independently thought it was worth an article that should count for something. However, I won't contest. My sense is that the original (basically unanimous) decision to delete was a reflection of the Tesla hate going around, and I don't have the army of supporters that it would take to overcome them. Was there any offensive content in the April Fools' AfD that you deleted? I am an apolitical April Fools' participant, but unless there was offensive, potentially G10-worthy content over at the AfD, I believe that "[t]his is just a bad idea" sounds too much like IDONTLIKEIT for a supposedly-"uncontroversial" G6. NotReallySoroka, a tip: when the community turns a blind eye to you vandalising Wikipedia on 1st April, the implicit bargain is that you don't then make life more difficult for those who have to clean up after you. NotReallySoroka, traditionally the way April Fools Day works is that if there's a reasonable objection to a joke, the joke is either rolled back or deleted. Someone nominated that article as G4. It was different than the one deleted a few years ago, obviously, but the underlying concerns are the same: it was created surrounding his indictment and people were already making jokes that could be inflammatory. Not to mention that keeping it would call into question the project's commitment towards neutral point of view toward living people (i.e. if a similar AfD had been made about Biden and had commented on his mental state or his son's legal matters, we would have deleted in a heartbeat.)
But even ignoring all of that - IDONTLIKEIT is a perfectly valid speedy deletion rationale for an prank April Fools Day AfD about arguably the most famous living person on the planet, and arguably any living person. So no, I'm not undeleting it. If you wish to further disrupt the project past April 1st, feel free to take it to DRV. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:54, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Hello, I have read here that you are one of the only administrators willing to block users on demand.

I am an 18 years old student and failed my exams because of a lack of planning, discipline and a rampant Wikipedia addiction. It would significantly improve my odds at becoming happy and disciplined if I was blocked from editing this website for the next few months.

I absolutely love building this encyclopedia and will probably reasonably do so throughout this century if I don't die young, but at this specific point in my life (these few decisive years) it causes me harm. I have tried browser extensions that block a website for a certain period of time, but i didn't work. On the contrary, my addiction has become worse. I am doomed to depressively read Reuters articles and academic papers all day and add all the knowledge they contain to the respective Wikipedia articles with links and citations in the appropriate sections if nothing is done.

I am not even supposed to use English so much where I live, the competences I am exercising here are not required for what I do in real life. My non-English speaking friends are much happier and skilled than me.

Please, block me from editing until September 15, 2023. I have read your conditions. At the end of my block, I would prefer to keep my "extended user" confirmation as I foresee needing it in 10 or 15 years. I sincerely apologize if your talk page was not the appropriate place for this request, and in that case redirect me to the correct talk page.
