I think the common wisdom about qoph, that it's a needle and thread, is well supported. The proto sinaitic q that is claimed to be a monkey, sometimes it looks less like a monkey and more like one of these. https://imgur.com/a/AjoMyNz from https://archive.org/details/ERA42/page/n149/mode/2up?view=theater I know of one inscription where it does look like a monkey, but I'm not sure that's so widespread. If it were inkwell, that'd be like a pared down version of hiero number Y3 𓏞 scribe's gear.
