Hi Temerarius, could you please look over this article and see if you can address any of the issues? Thanks for starting this, looks like an interesting book. Boleyn (talk) 21:34, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'm new to editing. I added some categories. It will be hard to find citations; for obvious reasons people would have been hesitant to cite it. But It's a very important work, I think. Also: the head is a link and it should be in nexus externi, I don't know how I screwed that up and I don't know how to fix it Temerarius (talk) 16:54, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying. Where did you get the information from, the information in the article? It's your sources we need to see; same for Latin interjections. Help:Referencing for beginners and the WP:TEAHOUSE may be helpful for you. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia, Boleyn (talk) 17:22, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you'll understand that the reference for the glossarium is the work itself and it stands on its own merits; while citations I'm sure exist it's hard to find references to what would have been considered pornographic. For latin interjections the reference is Lewis & Short or Smith & Hall. But I'll add a reference to Gellius. Temerarius (talk) 17:31, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Latin interjections

Thanks for creating Latin interjections.

A New Page Patroller Boleyn just tagged the page as having some issues to fix, and wrote this note for you:

Can you please WP:INLINECITE references and if possible put English translations next to them. Thanks for your work on this article.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can reply over here and ping me. Or, for broader editing help, you can talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Osanaetoki Bankokubanashi moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Osanaetoki Bankokubanashi, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. This is a fundamental problem: there are simply not often sources for pornographic material and other marginalized topics. My source for the film is the film itself. The film exists. I'm sure you don't dispute that. Restore the article and allow others to find "appropriate" sources and improve it. It is not a draftspace article. It's an emendata article. Sins of Sodom & Gomorrah

@Temerarius:, you mentioned the punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah was not for sexual sin, what did you mean? Gfigs (talk) 03:47, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gfigs:, here is one essay on the topic. I'll find some more for you shortly. https://isthatinthebible.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/crime-and-punishment-in-sodom-and-gomorrah/ Temerarius (talk) 04:16, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

there seems to be a literary conflict in this explanation..see for example sodomy in relation to the city..or compare Sodomite with sodomite..both above associating sexual practices, with the city of Sodom..appears to be the mainstream interpretation.. Gfigs (talk) 08:32, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gfigs:Sodomy and sodomite are English words that were invented long after the story was written down. As for mainstream, I don't know. The popular theological interpretation is the one you're familiar with. The mainstream scholarly interpretation is closer to what's described in the article. I haven't found other articles for you, not yet anyway. Temerarius (talk) 09:31, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
am interested in the social and political views of the LGBT community in Israel, and how they relate to Orthodox and "secular" communities..have followed a few liberal Haredi people, living in New York, online, that are actually quite conservative. although admittedly do not understand much of it..thanks for this article.. Gfigs (talk) 11:20, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Temerarius: there are possibly issues with translation of the Hebrew scriptures. lost original copies, intermediary languages such as Latin and Greek..and conflict between translations of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures into English..however accounts of Sodom & Gomorrah in modern Bibles as they exist, in my view, seem to indicate that sexual sins were one of the main (yet not only) problems in those cities..see for instance the Greek scriptures (Jude 1:7).. Gfigs (talk) 07:43, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
the only Jewish English Bible have read is the JPS, and the account of Lot offering his daughters to men of the city (Genesis 19:8) in that Bible, in my view seems to support the above..do not know what the other Jewish Bibles say, or what the Jewish scholarly view on this is?.. Gfigs (talk) 07:45, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gfigs: I don't know much about the Jewish view specifically, but you might find help in the Talmud and Midrash, and in current-day essays from Rabbis. The_Bible_and_homosexuality says The Talmudic tradition as written between c. 370 and 500 also interprets the sin of Sodom as lack of charity, with the attempted rape of the angels being a manifestation of the city's violation of the social order of hospitality.[11] With a different interpretation later. (Keep in mind that later theological arguments tend to become more specious, and later academic arguments increase in rigor--time treats different fields differently.) There are problems with translation. The main problem in this case is that modern translators often rely too heavily on a culture which has demonized homosexuality, and rely on this belief rather than the text for what they put on the pages. I didn't have much luck finding other essays on this topic, but the one I linked is worth reading twice I believe, and here's another: https://fccmoline.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/gnuse-seven-gay-texts.pdf Now, I'd encourage you in your study of the Bible and homosexuality to study them both, not only homosexuality through the lens of the Bible. That means talking with queer people or LGBTQ groups. I am a queer person and I believe that if there is a higher power, God loves all people equally and is happy when you have enjoyable consensual sex, regardless of the genders involved. Would you like me to look up some Jewish LGBTQ groups for you to connect with? Temerarius (talk) 23:15, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
hi @Temerarius:, am not LGBT..although, have had a problem with female LGB pornography, that is reason why have been trying to spend less time online. am Atheist, although interested in the Hebrew language and scriptures, LGBT community in Israel. Talmud, and Haredi communities, especially their views on Satan, and sexual sins in the Bible..thanks again for these articles, all the best.. Gfigs (talk) 04:07, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gfigs: Most people who have a "problem with pornography" really have a problem with shame. Did your upbringing and culture have a negative view of porn? Does your porn consumption interfere with your life? Does it stop you from doing the things you want to do, like eating 3 meals a day, going to the store to buy things you need, or making it to doctor's appointments on time? Answering these questions might help you determine whether you have a problem. Temerarius (talk) 17:05, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

there is a lot of porn on the internet..it's an issue even on the Wiki websites.. Reporting of child pornography images on Wikimedia Commons ..doesn't bother me really..just keep away from illegal media, try to spend less time online Gfigs (talk) 03:19, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Æ

Thanks for your reply, which I've only noticed now that my query has already been archived. Yes, I was basically wondering when Æ became effectively a "real" letter, with which I mean when it became reasonably common, as a discernible conventionalised glyph, and not just an occasional space-saver among many other possible ligatures (that might even be arbitrarily created on the fly). That would probably have been in late antiquity, by the sixth century at the latest, as I noted in my query. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 21:03, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Asherah & Judean Pillar Figurines

Hi, @Temerarius! I have noted that you have deleted some of the sourced material that I had added to some articles without presenting any explanation for why you did so. Particularily, in this edit you removed without explanation some content that I had added to the article on Judean pillar figurines in spite of the fact that I had cited a fairly recent WP:RS in support of it. Instead, you added the sentence: For a century, scholarly consensus has categorized the figurines as the Canaanite great goddess Asherah. That may be true, but I think our article should also discuss more recent advances in scholarship which has suggested some other possible identifications for the figurines and not just stick to past views as if they were as normative as they were some decades ago.

Also, I noticed that in this edit you also removed without explanation some content I cited from Park (2010) discussing the etymology of Asherah's name. Personally, I would like to know what was the reason or basis for doing so. Otherwise, this does not look like the kind of constructive editing that as Wikipedia editors we are expected to do.

I look forward to hearing your response, and seeing if we can collaborate to improve the articles and seek consensus when some disagreement arises. Potatín5 (talk) 15:34, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please @Temerarius, I don't want there to be any misunderstanding between us. Per the current WP:RULES, the removal of content that is backed by reliable sources should not be done unless there is a good justification for doing so. I would like to know your reason why you deleted the content cited to Darby (2018) and Park (2010) in the respective articles. That is all. Potatín5 (talk) 18:12, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Temerarius,
Civility with other editors is the Fifth Pillar of Wikipedia and you seem to be resorting to personal attacks. That is not the way to edit Wikipedia, no matter how right you think you are, and more importantly, it isn't a way to persuade other editors to your point of view. In fact, it usually causes resentment, not agreement and decisions on Wikipedia are governed by consensus, not your opinion or mine. If you want to be a successful editor here, you need to find a way to work with editors with whom you disagree. Getting into personal feuds or petty bickering is a quick route to receiving a block and loss of editing privileges. Be smart. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:37, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

KTU category

Hey, I've noticed you recently created Category:KTU texts. Wikipedia already has Category:Ugaritic texts, so I don't think this is necessary. I assume the confusion stems from the fact the article about the term KTU isn't properly categorized itself? I will admit the fact the only other article you placed in it is about a pair of deities, not a specific text or category of texts puzzled me a bit too. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 14:18, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good alert, my goal is to add the KTU numbers to inscriptions as I encounter them. "Ugaritic texts" is geographic, while KTU is one of these books that arranges everything and gives an official number to them. Like KAI numbers for Ugarit; numbers are the main value of the KTU texts category. The Ugaritic epics didn't really bring up this problem on wikipedia because they're found on multiple objects so they're not as tied to their KTU numbers. Thanks for watching out. Temerarius (talk) 14:22, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I think wikipedia generally favors geographic categories in similar cases, since the Hittite category (Category:Hittite texts) doesn't use the CTH or KBo naming system either. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 17:58, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Asherah again

Hello Temerarius. You've added "Stuckey 2001" to Asherah but it's another undefined work. I thought it might be "The Great Goddesses of the Levant" (Stuckey 2001), but the page numbers make that impossible. Could you add the required cite to Bibliography section or let me know what work this refers to? -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 14:28, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, it is indeed supposed to be that "Great Goddesses." Let me check it. :) Temerarius (talk) 14:30, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to double check the page number, the pages at "The Great Goddesses of the Levant" run 28–57, and the ref has page number 25. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 14:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it, it's on pg 35 as you can see here https://imgur.com/a/JtU3lyX thank you! Temerarius (talk) 14:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Temerarius. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 14:37, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again so soon, but while working through the list of new errors I got to Kuntillet Ajrud inscriptions. You've added "Gordon 1998" which is undefined in that article. Same question as the last source. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 15:07, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's done, thanks a lot for your help! Temerarius (talk) 15:37, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I must have gotten something backward, I'll take another look. Thanks again for your diligence. Temerarius (talk) 18:16, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gertrude Bell image

Hello,

You added File:Nhlsqdm.png to the Gertrude Bell article a few weeks ago. Can I ask for some more details here? You just linked the front page of the Gertrude Bell archive for the source in the image, for one - can you offer a more specific link? (There's over 500 1900 photos listed at https://gertrudebell.ncl.ac.uk/gsearch?f%5B0%5D=date%3A1900&f%5B1%5D=format%3Aphotographs&f%5B2%5D=format%3Aphotographs , each with its own specific link.) And what exactly was the significance here? Not trying to be a hardass, just to understand what's going on - as is, it seems like this might just be a picture Bell took. But there's absolutely tons of them, so it's best to pick and choose which ones get in. (Unless there was some deeper significance - was this creek later named after Bell or something?) SnowFire (talk) 03:20, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for messing up the source link. The photo has an Arbus-like self-awareness, plainness, and pluck with Cartier-Bresson's moment-choosing. The foliage looks otherworldly, maybe no IR filter. The person stepping in a creek in a blooming almond grove on a lively day with all those people, the animal, it's heavy with symbolism and abundant with life. It's a fantastic picture of Jerusalem that nobody else could have taken. Temerarius (talk) 03:34, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, no worries then.
I'd argue that even if it's a great photo, it's not ultimately a significant part of Bell's life (her article is already pretty long, and her time in Israel just wasn't that important; I threw in one of her pictures of Ha'il, though, because that was very significant and unusual, by contrast). Buuuut that doesn't mean it can't be used elsewhere. It sounds like it'd be a great fit to an article on the region / history of it if it'd work there. SnowFire (talk) 03:39, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it's nice of you to check with me! No, I just threw that in because I liked it. Temerarius (talk) 03:42, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mitteilungen des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts, Athenische Abteilung 103, 1988

Dr Roellig's excerpt on the same topic is available at the following DOI, but what Kyrieleis says on (probably?) Pages 37-62 is what I'm looking for.

@Temerarius: but the DOI links to Roellig pages 62-75, instead of pages 37-62. Has there been a mistake? – Doc TaxonTalk • 18:20, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me? How about helping with the actual problem that article was having instead? Temerarius (talk) 17:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
on further reflection, the problem that article is having is quite minor. It's the bad faith presentation of nonfacts that bothered me, but that was on principle. It's a minor issue. Calls to civility are hegemony-pushing bullshit in most cases by the way. In my experience. Who are you? If civility's your goal, why don't you introduce yourself and make friends? Friendship is very civilizing. Temerarius (talk) 18:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hierombalus moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Hierombalus. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and There are a few sources cited, but they are incomplete and need to be added in order make this understable. The one cited reference is not from 2023, but from (115–125 CE). It's unlikely that the topic is likely to expand, given the narrow range of sources material available, and I wonder whether it wouldn't be better presented within the context of a broader topic. . I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Klbrain (talk) 12:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Anubis, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. I'm not really sure what you were trying to do with your edits to this article, but you added "sa" a lot, which made no sense to me. Feel free to re-add in a manner that will make your intentions more clear. DonIago (talk) 19:44, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's the name of the symbol. What's the matter? Temerarius (talk) 19:45, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a source for that? I did a quick check on Google and didn't see it. DonIago (talk) 04:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do I have a source? That's a terrifically annoying thing to say. Yeah, it was in those edits. Didn't you read what you deleted? https://ijthsx.journals.ekb.eg/article_267536_58a83b255f5036b4a95f30946be41955.pdf Temerarius (talk) 23:06, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure editing Wikipedia is really for you if you're going to find simply being asked for a source to be "terrifically annoying", but thank you for the link. I think reinserting your information would probably not be an issue, but in the original version, as mentioned, it was unclear to me what a "sa" is, so you should phrase that more clearly. If you find yourself struggling with that, I'd be happy to take a look. DonIago (talk) 02:23, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you intentionally misunderstanding? It's annoying to delete something then ask if there were-- never mind. I think it's an important fact about Anubis, that portrayal is quite common. I don't care enough to do janitoring right now, you can put it back if you want. Temerarius (talk) 02:35, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
