Hi Technopat, I saw you created the Spanish article for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and are a proficient translator, and I was wondering if you’d be willing to help translate the English version for the Spanish Wiki. I’ve been working with MSK on improving and expanding their article, among others. Recently, they’ve expressed interest in translating the expanded English version into other languages, including Spanish, to help ensure there’s the same depth of information available on the Spanish Wiki as there is for English. Would you mind taking a look at the English version to see if there’s room for further improvements for Spanish?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 00:18, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

After reviewing the English article, I think the most important things to get across are the current executives, the context around all the institutional name changes, and the associated facilities. I think Craig Thompson and Joan Massagué should be mentioned alongside José Baselga, as it's the three of them who are currently at the top of the organization. As for the history, without the background of who Sloan and Kettering actually are, and SKI's initial affiliation with Memorial Hospital, it seems a bit more like a history of the different names rather than about the organization itself, especially since SKI was built adjacent to the existing hospital. I think it'd be worth mentioning John Heller as the figure behind the unification. Other than that, if there's room to mention Bendheim, Gerstner, and Weill Cornell (and its involvement with the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD program, I think it'd help give a better picture of what they do today. Thanks again for your help, and let me know if there's anything else I can do to lend a hand.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 01:36, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Technopat, hope you're well. I found someone to help me with the translation in the meantime, and I posted it here. If you've still got time, would you mind reviewing it?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:42, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Clarence Johnston

I would prefer you avoid writing discographies the way you wrote the one for Clarence Johnson, the drummer. Please restrict yourself to the basics and keep it simple: Name of album, label that released the name, and year of release. In that order. Pipe the label on its first occurrence. Co-leaders (one or two) can be added next to the title of the album after the word "with". Please refrain from including all the sidemen the way you have done here.

There are several reasons for this approach. As in all reference books, Wikipedia must maintain consistency of form among articles. Consult other WP articles to see how discographies are usually written and stick to that style. The indiscriminate addition of information leads to infodumps. It looks like graffiti. When reading it, the eyes glaze over, esp. when using that tiny type. It blurs the distinction between what is essential and what is secondary. It means more work. Sometimes there is disagreement on musicians who played. Often, the musicians' names require disambiguating, as the Johnston article still does. It makes the discography seem more important than the article, which is dwarfed by comparison. Above all, keep the audience in mind. Put yourself in the shoes of the common reader. That ought to be enough reasons to persuade you. Thanks.

Nomination of Keith Anderson (saxophonist) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Keith Anderson (saxophonist) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keith Anderson (saxophonist) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion.
