typos removed

Hi technopat, sorry for not specifying what I edited. I removed simple typos and that's why I thought it was useless to fill the edit line. I was clearly wrong, therefore I specified what I've done in my next correction.

I definitely need to make an account!! Thank you and please if you can check again my correction

Hi Technopat, Figured this might soften your heart and you could answer two questions: What is template to put on the top of an article equivalent to the {{en obras}}; and, how do I know if I am autopatrolled here and, if not, where do I request it? 27 Club and WP:BLP

Greetings, Technopat. Could you please explain why you think this discussion would violate WP:BLP? I can see that WP:BLP does apply to talk pages, not just articles, but I'm unclear on why you think it needs to be removed from there. Do you consider that material to be negative or questionable? The anonymous editor did provide a source for it, which was an interview with the living person in question, so it seems to me that it should be allowed on the talk page. Whether or not that material fits into the article is a separate question, and as I posted there, I don't think it does. So in my view the talk page discussion is not a critical one anyway. I'm just requesting more of an explanation of why you think that talk page section violated the policy. (If you reply here, I will see what you say.) • Thanks for pointing that out – my mistake. I hadn't noticed the source when reverting that second edit. I've now restored it and apologised to the user. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 23:50, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sokouras in Burkina Faso

Hi. I got a message that you've recently reviewed the articles Sokoura_I,_Mangodara_Department,_Comoé and Sokoura_II,_Mangodara_Department,_Comoé. I've recently done some work on these two articles, and various other villages and towns in Burkina Faso, and wanted to check that everything was OK. I'm not sure exactly what a "review" is, and how I see the results. In my edits I've tried to make clear that there are several villages called Sokoura in Burkina Faso, including two in Mangodara Department. Where there are two identically named villages in the same department, the government distinguishes them in its population and agricultural surveys by numbering them (in Roman numerals). I know that this makes it confusing when looking them up, but I've tried to make it clear on the disambiguation page what is going on. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve these pages. Thanks. RomanSpa (talk) 19:50, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, it's unsurprising that there are several places called Sokoura. In the Bambara language used in the south-west of Burkina Faso the name "Sokoura" can be translated as "New House" or perhaps "New Houses". That is, it's roughly equivalent to the English place name Newton ("new town"). RomanSpa (talk) 20:02, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your kind reply. I agree that the translation of "Sokoura" is interesting, but I probably can't include it in the articles, as it would fall into the category of "original research". That is, I did the translation myself, and there may be other translations that would work just as well. If I find a proper reference then I will certainly put this information in the articles, though. Once again, thank you. RomanSpa (talk) 10:17, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Animal Farm spelling

I agree that the spelling should use British English. It was changed from the "k" spelling here and remained like that until it was changed earlier.

Either way the second usage is a quote from The Cambridge Companion to George Orwell so has to retain the "c" spelling as a quote.

Which is the BE spelling. collinsdictionary.com and thefreedictionary.com both say that the "c" version is archaic and US. However, dictionary.cambridge.org (British sceptical) (also dictionary.cambridge.org (American skeptical), oxforddictionaries.com, merriam-webster.com, sceptical and skeptical all have the "c" spelling as British as does Skepticism#Definition and American and British English spelling differences (look for sceptic). CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 11:53, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologise these things happen. I once changed several spellings of "traveler" to "traveller" because I didn't know that it was a US spelling. At least it's not like Canadian English where you see both US and British spellings used. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 12:42, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mason-Mac

Hello. In August you moved the page Noel Mason-Macfarlane to Nöel Mason-MacFarlane with reason: "Correct name". Can I ask on what grounds? For example, neither the diaeresis nor the camelCase appear here in the London Gazette. ([1]) If he did use a diaeresis would it not be over the -e- e.g. Noël? Nedrutland (talk) 20:27, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response and my apologies for incorrect placing of the comment.
However there remains the question of the camelCase (you altered the title to Mason-MacFarlane but throughout the article, other than the lede, it remains Mason-Macfarlane). Relying on The Gazette, I still favour Mason-Macfarlane; do you have sources for Mason-MacFarlane? With best wishes Nedrutland (talk) 08:48, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I met Mr. Simon at the World Stage in Los Angeles, CA last Thursday night (April 24, 2014) as I was performing at the Thursday Night Jam Session. I was talking with a fellow-minister when he asked me if I knew Cecil Murray to which I replied, "Chip, yes! He is a good friend of mine!" (I used to attend FAME when "Chip" was Senior Pastor around the time I first came back to the Lord a number of decades ago.). I had no idea the this was the famous Maurice Simon, the saxophonist who has performed with such jazz greats (too many to be listed here). He was born the same year as Benny Golson (Benny's son "Reggie" was in my band when we were teenagers) and is a distinguising-looking gentleman walking and speaking as well as he wants to at age 85. I hope and pray the Lord allows me to live that long and be that mobile and well. May God continue to richly bless and keep you Mr. Simon........and please forgive me for not knowing who you were. Harold McNair Legacy and transcription links

Dear Technopat,

On a recent visit to this page on Harold McNair I was rather surprised to find that the link I had included to transcriptions of Harold's playing (painstakingly done by myself, and offered freely to the flute playing world as study material!) had been deleted. Research into the history of the revisions indicates that Technopat is responsible for deleting that info. I'd be very interested to hear your motivation for this action. I'm quoting the deleted text here (The words Jazz Flute Transcriptions were an active link in the original posting): Death and legacy McNair died of lung cancer in March 1971, at the age of 39. Until The Fence was reissued on CD by Hux Records in 2007, none of the recordings made under his own name had been reissued on CD, limiting the awareness of his outstanding musicianship. Nevertheless, he has inspired great admiration among those who have been lucky enough to hear his music, his reputation being especially high among flautists. For transcriptions of his flute solos on "Indecision", "Lord of the Reedy River" and "The Cottage" (from the "Harold McNair" RCA 1968 LP) go to Jazz Flute Transcriptions where these can be downloaded for free.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Communication on Wikipedia

Dear Technopat,

I replied to your message by editing same i.e. writing my reply at the bottom of it and saving this. Have'nt heard from you since so I've decided to try this route again.

If you wish to edit, or indeed delete a contribution of mine, I would greatly appreciate it if you would first contact me with your proposed edit, and the possible alternatives you suggest. I feel that by simply deleting a contribution based on your personal interpretation of Wikipedia guidlines constitutes a violation of what would appear to be the three most fundamental of all guidelines:

1. Communicate 2. If 1. fails, try communication 3. If 2. fails try communication again.

The chances are excellent that in fruitful dialogue we can then come to a mutual agreement as to the relevance and appropriateness of a given contribution, or indeed the lack thereof, and whether or not with suitable edting, and again, mutual agreement we can move forward.

In this case you've chosen the 'shoot first, ask questions later' approach.

I propose you undo your edit/deletion on the Harold McNair page. Thereafter I'll be happy to engage in an open dialogue regarding any changes you consider appropriate.

All the best, JohnBuitendebox (talk) 15:49, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Dear Technopat,

Thanks once again for taking the time to reply.

Of course you are at liberty to do whatever you please. That's the nature of the game here in the 3D arena. I merely pointed out that your course of action (deleting my contribution) without first connecting with me to indicate that you felt this was the right thing to do in the circumstances, was experienced here as "shoot first, ask questions later" behaviour, and as such, nothing less than belligerent. Including the 'ask questions later' is actually going too far. You did not ask questions at any stage, but chose to justify your action with the Wiki book of rules in hand ("It is written"), only on being questioned by me when I discovered your deletion a year after the fact.

I would like to point out that the following text: "Until The Fence was reissued on CD by Hux Records in 2007, none of the recordings made under his own name had been reissued on CD, limiting the awareness of his outstanding musicianship. Nevertheless, he has inspired great admiration among those who have been lucky enough to hear his music, his reputation being especially high among flautists.", is NOT from my hand, though I fully agree with what's written. In the meantime the double album "Flute & Nut" has become available as digital download on various popular music platforms, so in that sense the info is outdated and would need to be edited. My sole contribution was the mention of the transcriptions of three of Harold's flute improvisations, and the inclusion of a link to the location on my site where these can be downloaded free of charge.

However valuable Wikipedia may be, or the rules pertaining to its use for that matter, it has no sanctity of itself (true of every single text, to my mind), but only that with which we choose to imbue it. Indeed, when any of us chooses to act on the basis of "It is written", rather than giving priority to the quality of our connection with each other, we do both ourselves and our fellow humans a disservice at the least, and an incredible injustice at the worst.

I have more than enough faith in both your's and my own humanity, to be able to come to a place where both parties feel heard and in agreement, even if it means agreeing that there are certain things on which we disagree.

I thank you for this exchange, from which I have learned much, and wish you good health and success in your endeavours.

John Devitt

Everfound (band)

Hi Techno. I noticed you reverted my three edits of Everfound (band) which is perfectly alright, except for the reason you reverted them. A lot of pages on Wikipedia, such as Red (American band) or Skillet (band), have their current and former members split up. The Everfound page, however, was not like that. I changed it like that so it would look better, you know, more professional. The background was also a mess. A lot of it had grammar issues and spelling issues, so I fixed that. When I saw the reason that you reverted them, I was confused. I'm not sure what you count as vandalism, but my edits were in good faith and not vandalism. I undid your revision because I don't think you knew what I meant. Hopefully, this helped you understand what I meant. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.162.63.97 (talk) 01:01, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

KFNW-FM

To say that there is a "fire at the tower site" implies that the building itself sustained a fire. The real cause of the outage of the three stations was caused by a lighting strike several weeks before the antenna system caught fire. The previous lightning strike broke part of the safety climb system loose, which then whipped around in the high winds at the top of the 900+ foot tower. The high RF field in the aperature of the antenna with close to 300 KW of RF, caused enough EMF induction in the cable to arc to one of the radomes of the antenna, starting the fire. During the course of which, the antenna was destroyed, and all three stations were forced to use backup facilities. I helped put the stations back on the air following the incident.

I would appreciate if you would return the edit to the way it was. It properly documents the event as it happened.

Proposed deletion of Slipstream – The Best of British Jazz-Funk

The article Slipstream – The Best of British Jazz-Funk has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable compilation album

Hi. Thanks for the message. Cato the Elder's Article

I just noticed the message you'd sent me a few weeks ago regarding the Cato the Elder Wikipedia entry (I'm not even remotely active on Wikipedia - beyond spending hours each day reading various articles on the site, that is.)

With that being the case, in my belief the aforementioned actually emphasizes the magnitude of the Cato the Elder article's problems. As much time as I spend on the site, it is exceedingly rare for me to come across any articles that I feel compelled to edit, but Cato the Elder's was indeed one of those - if not outright the most poorly worded/structured article I've ever encountered, throughout the countless thousands of them I've read over the years.

I can't take issue with the possibility I got some basic facts blatantly wrong in my edit, however, as the article's issues were so great as to make the information conveyed nearly impossible to decipher for someone who had never read a word about him and his life prior to encountering that article. I sought to clarify things as best as I was able given that fact, such that someone else in my shoes wasn't left utterly perplexed when reading the section I edited - just as I myself was.

Therefore, reverting the article to an identical state as it was before those edits of mine... well, I'm not sure that was the most preferable outcome, either.

I have to assume that, quite unlike myself, you're instead knowledgeable on Cato the Elder given your participation in maintaining his article. As such, I might only take to strongly urge you to give a second look at those many issues I'd changed at the time and significantly redo those various areas aided by possessing expertise on the subject - and actually having any idea what they were talking about. To a laymen, the information it contained was written in a way far beyond being just murky or unclear - indeed, it almost has to be that this wasn't written by a native English speaker. As this message to you is long enough already without going into a blow by blow of the issues as they exist right now, I'll close with a single sentence from there to hopefully convince you to spend some time reworking the piece so others can finish it with better insight into his life/historical events than I was able to.

"It was not so much, possibly, taking into account his still confessed disdain for everything Greek."

No matter what the topic at hand, encountering a sentence with "It was not so much, possibly, taking into account..." wouldn't be considered proper English by the poorest of writers/readers. So as I said (and hopefully as you'll agree,) this particular article is simply riddled with horrendous mistakes in both grammar and phrasing - going far, far beyond just the small section I had redone myself at the time. I simply didn't have the time or the knowledge to completely redo the article, but I still strongly believe it would greatly benefit from such an effort; indeed, that a reader encountering the entry would be left largely clueless as to the details/facts regarding Cato the Elder's life as this exists in its present form.

While I'm quite sorry if I ended up altering the article such that my edit ended up containing blatant mistakes in their historical accuracy/meaning, looking at it once again some several weeks later I continue to feel that Cato the Elder's Wikipedia entry is desperately in need of serious revisions... if only by someone. Thank you for your time, and once more, I apologize for the additional work I might have caused you in contributing my own mistakes to the piece.

Question regarding Ethan Kath's biography

Out of sheer curiosity, do you think that blog interview would be acceptable had it been announced in an official/verified band account? As and underground music fan I find that many (semi-)underground bands do provide lots of valuable information to as much media as they can: big, medium, and small. I don't think that it should go to waste, as long as verifiability is enforced.

Of course, I guess I should formalize this proposal sometime. Just randomly mentioning it right now. 201.190.31.128 (talk) 05:25, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
