Welcome

Hello Rex the first and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. If you want to learn more,

Wikipedia:Bootcamp teaches you the basics quickly,
Wikipedia:Tutorial is more in-depth, and

Five Pillars of Wikipedia

Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.

There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. freetek

I think that's a good idea (re: wikiproject on freetekno) it seems that Free parties are an aspect of the larger free tekno movement, but that could just be semantics. A merger sounds like a good idea, I suggest we use the name freeteknoas it is more specific than the somewhat ambiguous 'free parties'. Someone could think "oh, free party, that means I don't pay" but freetekno always implies some sort of culture or intention, at least in my mind.

youmight also want to check out the canadian freetek scene's mb at freetekno.toronto.on.ca

comm-uni-cat-ion;)

I think the name of the illegalparty template should be changed, as not all freetekno jams are illegal Bennyp 23:14, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would for the template to have a name change but I can't think of anything better. As all types of parties are predominantly illegal (or at least have large illegal elements) I used Template:Illegalparty. If you can think of another feature that unites all the articles then please tell us! Rex the first talk | contribs 18:50, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Free Parties

Hi Rex, I've finally signed up to wikipedia but was me who requested the NPOV on the above article. Have been to a fair few free parties in my time in the UK and Europe so will be adding anything I can think of to improve them. I disagee with the guy above that the two should be merged as the UK and European scene have enough differences that at least the English Wiki should have seperate sections.

Would be happy to discuss any way of improving the articles with you.

Raerth 06:19, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, I really feel like the article is still lacking and would like to put down more on what a free party actually is. I am unsure with the freetekno as the two do seem to be so similar that it would be nice if they could be linked but then maybe the Canadian / European scene deserves separate attention, umm, still not sure but cool and thanks for the NPOV tag, kicked me into action for a bit 8-).Rex the first 00:24, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

more on free parties

hi guys,

i am also interested to sort out the tekno pages a bit ... i have been updating the teknival, freetekno, spiral tribe pages and would also like to look at the czechtek and free tekno pages. suburbass has a page which is very subjective and compared to other artists not listed here (eg crystal distortion) he is minor figure, but then hey, we can only move forward in slow steps!!

for the record i agree with making free party and squat party the same page and leaving freetekno for canada, then i would add that free tekno needs developing as a musical genre page. i may do soemthing towards that, because other genre pages eg gabba and breakcore are much much better. but agin, i dont have so much time at my disposal...

Mujinga 00:38, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I should say nice one for the Teknival page, it looks much better (I had forgot all about the Barking SucmTek)! I am still not sure what (if anything) should be done about Freetekno as I have never really used the word and am not sure what it means but I agree. Anyway looks like Teknival, Freetekno and Free Party are getting sorted, we also need to do something about Sound system (DJ) and I think free festival needs to be merged. Rex the first 00:11, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Rex :] and now i see i should save what i write on my page and ALSO the page of the person im talking to (like you did), it makes things much easier to follow a complete thread than half a conversation...
In response to what you say, i think things are a bit confusing, but getting better. freetekno is kinda an alternative to free party and while they can coexist for me and be linked together, it still does def. need a cleanup. Free Party, the link you used, goes to the old uk free party site, not Free party, but at least they have cross-links. free festival does need expanding it is true ... i would like to add something about the deep tribal human need to dance but i dont want to have to dig up references 0[ ... but i would be against merging it because it is useful hub for ppl who come interested in free festivals of all description, such as tekno, green, hippy and so on. Sound system (DJ) needs a bit of work, but i added some more links and referenced it also to Freetekno soundsystem, which also exists!! blimey!
And i stated elsewhere on (Raerth's talk): i dont have any concrete plans really, except updating the teknival page and changing the free tekno page into a page about the musical genre ... im basically changing things where i feel like they are needed, if you wanna check my changes and add your own then that would be cool! discussion of these things is also great ... i will drop you a line if something occurs to me ... on a moment's reflection i can ask you:
do you know how to add the musical genre boxes as at the bottom of the breakcore page (the breakcore page is really well done actually) and/or how to include free tekno in those boxes? i am thinking to change the link for free tekno just to tekno, then list free tekno alongside the other alternative names such as spiral tekno, french hardcore etc. what do you think? feel like adding producers/labels to the free tekno page?
is free tekno dead? i could list more recent producers but maybe they arent making free tekno any more ... its hard to say what something is when you are in the middle of it and my interest lies more in breakcore and noise nowadays ... i think my dutch dj friends prefer to use the term hardcore again. it kinda covers everything. cheers! Mujinga 12:24, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
A slow response on musical genre boxes, checkout Help:Template, also I have merged Freetekno soundsystem to Sound system (DJ). I am thinking about doing a free party/freetekno template...

hoi rex, im back online after a bit and have unleashed my latest idea...

im not sure if its really necessary or not, but it could be useful. feel free to add more english sisdems if you feel so inclined, at the mo' the list is very london-biased cheers! Mujinga 20:52, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added some things but just though this might get deleted WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files. Just thought I should warn you. Cool idea though, maybe worth asking if a list of external links is a valid article? Rex the first talk | contribs 21:48, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
hoi rex, yep as you suggested if got proposed for deletion, so i have made it a list of sisdems with no external links. i will ask some people to add more and will chase up a network23 list of sisdems from a few years back which might still be kicking around somewhere. cheers Mujinga 10:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dstorm

hi rex, nice one for the dstorm story on teknival, i also remembered it and found a ref. on undercurrents Mujinga 04:52, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gabba

You could change it back but in all honesty those links will just have to be changed manually. It happens all the time. I think it should remain as a disambiguation page. I don't think most Aussies would have a clue what Gabba music is! Dankru 07:21, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hyde Park

Re changes to the bits about the Hyde Park Social - don't have a problem with it, but I think there's a bit more than just the Techno Scene involved and it seems a bit reductionist to keep it surrounding that. When I get time I'm going to get a bit more into the Hyde Park pages.

I'll also have a look at some of the free party stuff - that may be towards the summer now when essays are out of the way. Are there any bits you particularly would like tinkered with? Acidsaturation 10:47, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: The deleted bits to Hyde Park article - Have to admit they made me chuckle!!! Maybe we should put them on Uncyclopedia lol Acidsaturation 20:33, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't sure if they were just taking the piss or not! Well, I pointed them to WP:Style and told them to get an account! Rex the first talk | contribs 19:56, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While we agreed the 2000 as a cutoff point... I think we need to use some common sense and be a bit more flexible. I readded the entry for full moon festival, yes it started in 2001, but its already run for longer than several others like Tunnel Rave, Biology, Energy, etc... perhaps we should make an exception for any series thats run for more than say 5 years as well? That would definately establish them as far as noteworthiness goes... I'm open for a discussion if you have an objection to this.  ALKIVAR 22:23, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Opps, I didn't check at all, just saw a number past 2000 and deleted. Thats fine, if it gets added seems noteworthy (whatever that means) then I will try to over zealously delete them! Rex the first talk | contribs 22:30, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eulerian/Lagrangian reference frame

Would you mind if I merged them? I think they are needed but would be better in one article. Rex the first talk | contribs 20:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's a great idea... It would be nice if the title was changed to reflect both (Lagrangian and Eulerian Coordinates), but I can't figure out how to do that once an article is created.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mooseo (talkcontribs) .

In the top panel next to watch you can click on Move to chnage the page title. Also in you type ~~~~ at the end of you comments on talkpages it puts you name and datestamps it. Sandbox category

Hello Rex the first. I noticed that in your scratchpad / draft / alternative article User:Rex the first/sandbox you have the categories still activated, so it's showing up in Category:Citation templates and in several others. Could I suggest that you deactivate the category links (by putting a colon before 'Category' in the link) until such time as the article is in the mainspace rather than the userspace? (As per WP:CG, "If you copy an article to your user namespace (for example, as a temporary draft or in response to an edit war) you should decategorize it".) illegal party template

Hi Rex, got yr message after a few days without inet .. to me it seems a bit dumb to label 'illegal party' as NPOV, but maybe 'rave' or 'free party' would be better. i like 'free party' meself, but maybe thats also NPOV. er, 'underground party'? I would like the template to stay as i think it performs a useful function. Seeya later! Mujinga 13:04, 2 June 2006 (UTC) [1][reply]

Template:Illegalparty

Hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions here as I seem to have written loads on the template page! I wrote most of the Free party#Law and Police section and have done research into this and I am confused as to the problem with the label 'illegal'. I agree that what is illegal in the UK is not illegal in Czech so maybe that adds a POV but there is no doubt that in many countries these parties are illegal, not just slightly but there are whole laws [2] [3] [4] against them so. I could find no law against them in Canada but there seems to be enough legal basis (I don't have any training in law but from what I can understand) in calling them illegal. Hope you don't mind me asking but nobody else seemed willing to defened their delete vote so if I can understand why then I'll try to make the template less POV. Rex the first talk | contribs 18:15, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is an international Wikipedia, so the title "illegal party" would be incorrect to some visitors. If a CzechTek is illegal in the UK, well that's completely irrelevant, as it's held on the territory of the Czech Republic, where it's (now) legal. Holding the parties in countries where they're illegal would obviously cause them to be an "illegal party", but as they're mostly held in nations where it's legal, they are not illegal parties, if that makes sense. +Hexagon1 (t) 03:29, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I think that makes sense. I would argue that most CzechTek's have been illigeal but then in Italy they aren't so it puts a UK/US bias. I have changed the name from Illegalparty to DIY Parties, hope this means it won't be deleted! Rex the first talk | contribs 09:02, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a mini notice to the top of the vote, an admin passing by will probably close it soon. +Hexagon1 (t) 09:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

#$%^& psytrance,freetekno (hardtek/jungle) rule the nation

AS spiral tribe put it best "the message is n the music" ..although psytrance deos have a seemingly nice message, the apparent scene that has formed from that message has been nothing but a cal to peacfull but conformist gatherings, overpriced and very self indulged parties, even the ones in goa, India, as can be scene in the soundconspiracy video touring to Goa, India.

There is a psytrance scene heere in NYC, and they want nothing to do with freetekno, as similiar as the styles may be, the crowds are yuppified, hedonistic druggies ranging in ages from 21-50... now age is nothing but a number, but to be so close minded as to not accept the combining of fretekno soundsystem forces with psytrance forces, because of the need to "keep psyrance at its purest form" is very biased. This deos not go on just in NYC, this is a world wide phenomenom, its literally as if the alien gods have put psytrance and freetekno on earth to be at war with eatchother, we just cant get along the way an average freeparty person would expect.

Not sure if its psytrance inability to veiw music as "free" since they spend so much money of expensive synths and parties. But there must be a reason, if you put modern hardtek and psytrance side by side, production skills are very similiar, but hardtek experiments with allot more drum patterns, while both styles can be monotonous, in psytrance you can always expect a melodic synth line to bring into another tune, whils't in hardtek the mixes just flow indoubetebly "freely"

I noticed that in canada someone is throwing a "teknival" with no freetekno crews and just psytrance, someone better put this person in his place.

Anyhow, i wanted Rex to not forget about us here in the U.states , there are countless soundsystems nowadays, main ones include.. renegadevirus.org, havocsound, pirateaudio23, Blackkat, Spaz, 5lowershop ,bassbot theese are all active travelling soundsystem collectives, and there are many more.. i will link eventually, you might find them on our site at renegadevirus.org

Atom

Thanks for cleaning up my mistake in atom, I reworded something that didn't make sense and then realised that the whole sentence was wrong but I was too tried! I was wondering what was wrong with the anti matter section, I thought that the change I made had not made it off topic and was a better summary of the main article, could you explain your concerns? Rex the first talk | contribs 19:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The basic problem with your edit was just that the text was about antimatter, not about atoms. There are not many connections between atoms and antimatter. One is that you can make antiatoms; the other is beta-plus decay, which isn't really about atoms but about nuclei. There's no need to include the antimatter section both in the antimatter article and the atom article. It's doing a fine job in the antimatter article where it belongs. -- Xerxes 23:45, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair, I added content on the section to as Titoxd suggested. Rex the first talk | contribs 06:14, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hoi Rex,

The List of free party sound systems is a candidate for deletion. It's a bit annoying since we already discussed it once on the talk page, and to me it is clearly notable, verifiable, useful etc etc. Anyway, your contribution to the debate is of course welcome. Here is the link. Mujinga 00:27, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rex, thanks for your note, yes its nice the list is not up for deletion now, but we are still discussing how best to do it over at Talk:List of free party sound systems if you feel like making any suggestions. Cheers! Mujinga 00:05, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason I ended up at this page and saw that there seems to be no Conservatives and lots of Unionist MPs, was this a temporary name change or is something amiss? (I forgot to sign) Rex the first talk | contribs 23:21, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re Unionist v Conservative. The party designation is as given in the source quoted, a contemporary almanac. This description is probably influenced by the fact that the Conservative organisation in Scotland at the time was the Scottish Unionist Party rather than the Conservative Party as in England. That the Almanac has picked up contemporary Scottish terminology rather than that currently used (see reference at Conservative Party (UK) to the Party's formal title and the common description of it and its allies as "Unionist" during the early part of the 20th century) is simply a reflection of its Scottish origin. There is therefore no problem with the article - references to Unionist can be interpreted as Conservative if you wish.--George Burgess 20:58, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers, I know nothing about it but saw that in both elections either side (1929 and 1923) there was no Unionist. Thanks for your reply! Rex the first talk | contribs 09:37, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Rex the first, now that a bit of time has passed I just wanted to drop you a note and express my appreciation to you for having improved Template:Tnavbar. Your code has made Tnavbar quite a bit more universal and easier to use in general. Cheers for that. (Netscott) 03:47, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I quite enjoyed playing with template code, it's quite picky about spaces though. Have you thought of including Template:Tnavbar-header as an option, or is that too much? I was considering suggesting it but I don't think I have the time to do it at the moment. Rex the first talk | contribs 22:27, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I have thought about doing that. I've been hesitant though because the header aspect of Template:Tnavbar-header sort of makes it a different animal. Of course it could be done... but I'm just not sure if it needs to be done. (Netscott) 22:29, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advection and advection equation merge

What in the devil are you doing?? If these are to be merged, it should be under advection, not advection equation. What you've done is like merging redirecting energy to an article called energy equation. That's backwards. The general topic comes first, the math later. Put the math in a subset of the main article, where everybody expects to find it. As is done for all physics topics where there is only one article. Are you trying to make a joke, here? Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
