Vandalism pages

Hi, the vandalism you brought to my attention was dealt with by another admin before I got to it. Here are a couple of pages for your future reference:

Check 'em out. Vsmith 02:01, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

PB dumps

Replying to this: Sure! You should feel free to take over any that are more than a few days old. But we might as well do the ones that nobody has claimed, first. — brighterorange (talk) 17:36, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Cool, it will be good to get through them, and with it being the easter holidays and me being a college student, i've got quite a bit of time, so probably can get through 2 or 3 a day at least. So i could get a long way to getting that september dump finished!

"Period Bot Dump Cleanup"

Are you simply moving all punctuation outside quotation marks? They should go inside when they're part of the quotation (see MoS). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:08, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

No, im adding extra ones.

It just seems that the general way was having it like ". rather than .", as most seem to be like that, but some are both...

Thanks for imforming me, i will bare that in mind for future. I was just going by the way that most were of the ". format....

Your edits to France

You made edits to a vandalized version of the article about France. I have reverted back to the last good version of the article, and reinserted your changes. I just wanted to point out that the article about France is being vandalized constantly, so we must be extra careful when we make changes to it. /Magore 16:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Thankyou for informing me. I wasn't looking for vandalism, just was checking edits by AutoWikiBrowser

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:59, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Afd for your user sub page

You don't need to use the Articles for deletion process for this. Just add: {{db-owner}} to the page User:Reedy Boy/Series Boxes, and an admin will delete it for you soon. Thanks. - Motor (talk) 13:16, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Embraer aircraft

I think Category:Embraer Aircraft should probably be Category:Embraer aircraft, to conform to the usual naming conventions for categories. If so, all the other sub-categories of Category:Aircraft by manufacturer should probably be treated similarly. -- Karada 11:20, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

OOPS, Yeah. Will AWB edit them all to aircraft. Errm, i need to find an admin to rename it then... Reedy Boy 11:26, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#Speedy_renaming is probably the best place to make the request. -- Karada 14:31, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Why did you remove the category living people from his article? Ardenn 17:29, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry. AWB Would have had a reason for it. Not sure why it did tho... Why did you move the stub back up there? Reedy Boy
I moved it back up there because I didn't understand why it had been moved down. Ardenn 01:49, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup Taskforce

I added John of Nepomuk to your desk for formatting. Please look at it and accept or let me know and I'll reassign it. The first thign it needs is checking for formatting. There is a large comment on the taskforce page, take it with a grain of salt. If you do some of the work and want someone else to finish it let me know. Thank you for volunteering for the Cleanup Taskforce. RJFJR 21:47, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

AWB Edits

I don't mean to try to stop your editing, but I just wanted to mention two things to you before you continue using AWB (and Mboverload settings). As some background, I've been using AWB for a month or two, and have received some complaints from other users.

  1. Avoid whitespace moves, like this. They're pointless and waste editors' time and server space/bandwidth.
  2. Fix the title of your mboverload changes to remove the AWB thing at the end. Two AWBs at the end is sort of confusing and distracting.

That being said, keep up the good work. Alphachimp talk 22:23, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Go to SET OPTIONS --> deselect APPLY GENERAL FIXES. Tada: No Whitespace Moves. Alphachimp talk 11:36, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
General fixes are things like Whitespace elimination, and reordering of templates and categories. There really isn't much useful going on there. Alphachimp talk 23:19, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually I was wrong. This is what happens: [1]. Regards, Alphachimp talk 23:46, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Note from mboverload: Set options > Find and replace > Ignore article when no change made --mboverload@ 23:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Cheers Mboverload, i already knew that. Alphachimp: Its a bit too much just to stop, i'll request they reduce it to 1 white line. Reedy Boy 08:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Just click "ignore" rather than "save", it couldn't be more simple. Martin 09:12, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Quick note - feel free to delete when done reading

Note that the replace list is actually updated daily - sometimes many times a day - to fix problems and add new words. These problems can be important.

Please check for a new version each and every time you use AWB. Add a bookmark to the top of your favorites. That will ensure you always have the best, most complete, bug-free version. Or you can get the same exact version I'm using at that second by using Subversion. You get to see how I work, change, and develop the list, edit by edit, since it shows you the differences between versions. All old versions of the list can be shown so you can see the progress the list has made. If you need any help setting this up, it's actually really easy, I'd be glad to help you out.

Download the latest releases all the time from the project page. Please update right now. Several problems have been found and fixed, and many many words have now been added.

Weekly AWB spellcheck changes - 0.0.8 and uberness

You are getting this weekly update because you are signed up on the spamlist for updates about mboverload's magical automatic typofixing settings for AWB

  • Good news, I now have a new, fancy, professional wikipedia project page (READ EVERY LINE ITS A REQUIREMENT!!!) and an easy shortcut: [WP:RETF]. I have added every g word and EVERY variation of each word. No, I'm not kidding. I used the dictionary to look for every possible variation. Took FOREVER. =)
  • I have a cool new logo, too!
  • Bill Gates has offered me $1.3 million in venture capital. I'll be taking him up on that offer.
  • Important notice: It has been brought to my attention that several users were unable to open the zip files because they were "corrupted". They weren't corrupted, just using a compression style different than the crappy extractor built in to XP uses. From now all all releases will be checked against the XP extractor. Sorry guys.
  • Don't worry about the download size - it doesn't mean anything. It's the extracted size that matters.
  • Tell your buddies.
  • 0.0.8 is out - go update now.
  • John Connor thinks RegExTypoFix is the precursor to Skynet. Unfortunately for him, mboverload can dodge bullets...and molecules of tear gas.

Spellchecking archives

Hi, you/the bot had fixed typos at User talk:White Cat/Archive/2006/06. I was wondering if you could do the same for other such archives linked on that very page. :) -- Cat chi? 23:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Been through and AWB has edited most of them. Hope this is what you wanted! Reedy Boy 07:35, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, I only see a correction at User talk:White Cat/Archive/2006/06, I was wondering if you could do the same to User talk:White Cat/Archive/2006/07, User talk:White Cat/Archive/2006/05 User talk:White Cat/Archive/2006/04 ... Do NOT edit signed comments

please do not edit signed comments from other users, unless they indicate you could do so. — Zanaq (?) 11:13, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

It would be helpful if you could please refer to where this edit has been made. Reedy Boy 11:14, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I wanted to say the same, in reply to this edit. Not only are you (semi-)automatically changing the words of other people, but you're also introducing spelling mistakes ("gracefully" is spelt with two ls). -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 11:27, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
(edit conflict) right here. and apparently here as well, though coolcat doesn't seem to mind, but there you even "corrected" a signature yet from another user. — Zanaq (?) 11:28, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I hate saying "me too,", but me too. it is considered extremely bad form to edit another person's signed comments on Wikipedia (such as here), for no matter what reason. Please do not do it again. Grutness...wha? 11:56, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm deeply sorry for this. I didnt realise this was not allowed. As for the spelling mistake, the gracefully has been missplet in WP:RETF. I have requested for this to be corrected.

The only correction of signature i saw, was the unicoding of letters

Again, i apologise for this, and will bare in mind for future reference, and hopefully we won't be crossing paths for this mistake again!

Thanks for alerting me/making me aware about this issue

Reedy Boy 12:09, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

that's the one. best is to alert the user how his/her signature may be improved, and leave it alone unless permission has been obtained. Easiest thing is not to run your scripts, bots and semi-automatic AWB's on talk pages and the like. — Zanaq (?) 12:20, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what ill do from now on! Thanks for being Understanding Reedy Boy 12:33, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

The least you could do now is help repair the damage... -- Ned Scott 12:46, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have sounded so rude there, I know you didn't realize that this was a "taboo" when it happened. -- Ned Scott 13:24, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

I noticed this before too, I thought I might suggest that you refrain from using AWB at all on any of the talk namespaces (Talk, Wikipedia talk, User talk and so on) to avoid these problems altogether. It's helpful to correct spelling mistakes in articles, and even on Wikipedia project pages, so you can continue to do that. --bainer (talk) 13:56, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

It won't let me rollback my own edits unfortunately... Any ideas? And ill go through and correct them Reedy Boy 14:04, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I think most of them are reverted by now. (Also exclude Userpages and handle userspace with extreme prejudice) — Zanaq (?) 14:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[2] - IT would look like there is maybe 20 more.. Would you mind sorting them? Thanks Reedy Boy 14:26, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Looks like way more, you're right. Click the diff link, Click "edit" on the desired version, click "save". Good luck. Maybe I'll check back later and see if there's anything left. — Zanaq (?) 14:33, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Done them all. Thanks for your time, help, understanding and patience! Reedy Boy 15:01, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Similarly at [3] (I'm mentioning because clearly it didn't get reverted). No big deal, I'll deal with it myself, just so you know. - Jmabel | Talk 20:12, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

wtf?

Why is your bot editing my user page?--Frenchman113 on wheels! 16:00, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

As above. If you looked you would notice that i have also reverted these edits Reedy Boy 16:46, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Editing (by bot or by hand) other people's entries on users talk pages is going a bit overboard. I don't mind you contributing to the discussion on the page but please don't edit other users' comments. Dipics 16:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Comment and retraction Sorry, I should have read the above comments. Didn't mean to pile on. Dipics 16:07, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, didnt realised. But as above, it aint gonna happen again. And any edits that hadn't been reverted, i have reverted Reedy Boy 16:46, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Christmas comes early for RegExTypoFix users

Yeah, all you "regular users" not signed up on the mailing list are getting coal. All 200,000 of you.

35 lines added in all

Well it's 2 AM on West Coast USA. California, homies. We all surf (even the 8 billion illegal immigrants). Los Angeles is just like they show it in GTA: San Andreas (but with more hookers). Oh yeah, and we only have one season. We call it "perfect".

Anyway, it is RETF Christmas Secular Celebration Day, and I'm not failing to deliver. I'm saying good bye to converting that whole list over. It's full of misspellings that aren't misspellings and words that aren't ever misspelled. From now on this is my method for finding new words:

  1. Spellcheck a random word from the existing list
  2. Open any article where it corrects more than 1 word
  3. Load it into Microsoft Word and spellcheck
  4. See how many times it shows up in Wikipedia using AWB
  5. If it shows up more than 6 times I'll put it into dictionary.com to make sure it's not a real word
  6. Integrate all versions of a word into regular expressions using dictionary.com as a reference
  7. <datagridFAR find="\b(E|e)nvrionmen(t|ts|tal|tally|talist|talists)\b" replacewith="$1nvironmen$2" />

You can do this too and get thanked in the section below! It really works well!

Shoutouts!

This is a new section dedicated to thanking people who found problems or suggested new word(s). PLEASE do this, even with one false positive. And please suggest new words, that's how it's going to expand.
Removed

  • "eminent" corrected to "imminent" Thanks to Guinnog for finding this.
  • "Calender" corrected to "calendar". calender is a word. Thanks to Alphachimp. Major props.

Added

  • "noteable" now corrects to "notable". Thanks to Mets, keep it up!

Fixed

  • "gracefuly" is the wrong spelling. it's "gracefully" - Thanks to r b-j, who reported this even though he doesn't use RETF!

"But mboverload, you ALREADY sent the weekly newsletter"

Well this is important, so suck it up.

RegExTypoFix is now completely built into AutoWikiBrowser

Yes, that's right. My little project has now been integrated into Wikipedia's most famous utility. This expands my reach to around ~250 active users!

  • But mboverload, what does this mean? - It means that Wikipedia is going to suck less! Yay!
  • What do I do? - Download the latest version of AWB and go to More Options > Enable RegExTypoFix. Then go to then in the Start tab > Summary dropdown box select RegExTypoFix
  • What happened to including your name in it? How am I going to praise you with every edit? You mean "mboverload's RegExTypoFix"? Oh, just stick it in there, and complain on the AWB talkpage if you want my name in there standard =P.
  • How did this come about? Why wasn't I told? - Because it was secret. I have known about this for about a week I think. Putting my typofixing into AWB was suggested in the talk page, however people talking about including spellchecking in AWB has gone back awhile. Martin, the creator and only developer of AWB, informed me and I was absolutely flattered. I now have developer access to AWB so I can update AWB with the latest RETF without having to bother him.
  • What about updates and the newsletter?
    • All updates are just going to be small files with the latest new words and fixes. When AWB updates just throw out the file until I release the next supplemental update.
    • I will be releasing the full RegExTypoFix, however it's going to be in the format that AWB uses it and not in its settings xml format. It's way easier to read, though.
    • You'll still be getting the newsletter, full of keen insights into the wiki hivemind and commentary on mind-body meta relationships.
  • mboverload, how long HAVE you worked on RETF anyway? I estimate 50 hours. Using my most accurate method of finding and verifying typos nets me 20 new lines an hour. This does NOT include the hours I've spent testing it.
  • Where can I find a list of typos to fix? User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/full
  • Whore-much? Silence you republican neo-con communist hippie! --mboverload@ 09:20, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Using AWB

I don't know if you've read the basic rules for using AWB, but your suppose to avoid making tiny insignificant edits such as removing a space[4] and pointlessly moving test edits which need to be deleted anyway[5]. It doesn't appear the rules are strictly enforced but when AWB is misused repeatedly you risk losing the privelage of using, which wouldn't be a good thing! Please put AWB to more good use and check your edits before hitting the Save button, otherwise you might aswell just be a bot ;).--Andeh 15:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

There would be so many more if i clicked OK at everyone! It skips some by itself, and then i click ignore on most... Its just the odd few that get caught. Sorry Reedy Boy 15:56, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Utilitarianism

I'm creating a new Category:Utilitarianism, and I'm moving the categories from the article Utilitarianism there. However, I'm not sure why you included Category:Criminology topics, so I'm leaving this one out for now. Granted, utilitarianism does consider some crimes, but so do most schools of ethics. August 6th, 2006 WP:RETF update

Note you are getting this because you are signed up on the RETF spamlist
Hey guys. Before I do anything, I have to thank all these people who have helped me make RETF more bug-free via my challenge to them on the Language noticeboard. Some were redundant lines, and some were words that probably never appear in Wikipedia, but as I said, I don't want any false positives in RETF.

THANKS GUYS! Now for the fixes and suggestions put on the RETF page:

  • 'behaviour' is a legitimate UK English spelling --Guinnog
  • 'councellor' to 'councillor' when 'counsellor' could be the intended word. --mattbr30
  • "Costal" is a real word, meaning "related to the rib" —Mets501 (talk)
  • 'judgemental' to 'judgmental'. According to my dictionary, both are equally acceptable. mattbr30
  • 'Adaptions' to 'Adaptations'. JoeSmack Talk
  • repond and variants -> respond --Guinnog

RETF development

I don't know what to say really. Something has come up and I might not be able to continue to update RETF after the next week or so.......I have put in countless sleepless nights of just me, my computer, and a case of Rockstar energy drink working on this. It has made me feel that I really am a devoted Wikipedian.

I have developed RegExTypoFix from a little hobby of mine into a full SourceForge project. I told a friend that I’ve worked 50 development hours in all. I have a really bad sense of time, but I’m sure it was more. I won’t lie, I am very proud of my work. Hopefully this will be used long after I leave.

To ensure that, I need a person/people to become admins on the RETF project. I don’t ask that you do anything but fix any errors that people report. There is a bit of a process to doing this, but I can teach you. Please send me a message on my talk page. Please my close friends only please, I hope you understand that I want to 100% trust this person. However, I might just hand it off to User:Bluemoose, as if he didn’t have enough on his plate =D.

Download + more

User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/updateboxTo keep an eye on RETF, you can use {{User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/updatebox}} and it will produce the box you see here =D. When AWB updates, I can turn it green on command =P

Extract Typos.xml from the zip file either using the zip extraction tool provided with XP or use 7zip.

Under the new system that Martin (User:Bluemoose) developed Typos.xml is separate from the settings file. This way it can be easily swapped out and doesn't interfere with your own personal find and replace settings. Put it in the AWB directory. It is loaded automatically when you start AWB.

In addition, each Typos.xml file comes coded with a version number. Perhaps in some future release AWB will be able to check to see if there's an update for you!

The latest version is not built into AWB, you will have to download it here Just updated a few minutes ago. --mboverload@ 01:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

RETF update box

AWB is now going to load RegExTypoFix from the web, so the update box User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/updatebox is no longer needed on your page. Thanks! --mboverload@ 00:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Please do not make trivial edits with AWB such as this, you have made a string of these, despite the edit summary indicating that you were fixing typos. Martin 13:02, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Spelling change

Please note that 'practice', which you changed to 'practise' in Al Parker, is the correct American spelling. As Al Parker was American, your change of this spelling violates the guidelines in Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English. Please refrain from making these kind of contentious spelling changes. -- Donald Albury 14:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Second Corrigan Archive

Would you mind creating a second archive for the Corrigan article? The instructions for how to create a second page in the archive aren't exactly clear and I'd rather not mess up and need to ask for help on a page that is so damn contentious. (Oh, and don't get upset about the guy above. You made an honest mistake, given where you are from.)Jodyw1 17:06, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, no problem jody i'll do that. Im not bothered, its just one of the few mistakes in AWB which is an automated editor, and when checking the edits, i wouldn't know. Lol, but yeah, its fair enough, it is a WP policy :D Reedy Boy 16:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Your AWB edits to the Comparison of SQL syntax article have broken it (at least) twice by changing "COMMIT [TRAN[SACTION]]" to "COMMIT [TRAN[[SACTION]]" [6][7]. It should be quite clear from the context that those instances were not intended to be linked. Please be more careful when performing AWB edits on the article in the future. -- intgr 19:32, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry! Reedy Boy 19:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Please do not replace blindly parlement by parliament. The latter word, in English, designates a legislative assembly in certain countries. However, the word has a rarer meaning (which appears in Webster 1913 but not in WordNet): In France, before the Revolution of 1789, one of the several principal judicial courts. Given that hardly anybody knows this usage and that mistaking a court of justice for a legislative assembly may be highly confusing for understanding the French society of the ancien régime, we have so far kept the original parlement word to avoid ambiguities. David.Monniaux 21:56, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry Reedy Boy 13:17, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Nomination

R, check [out this request] and see if you'd like to second the nomination. It could potentially bring more of a NPOV to the Corrigan article. User:Jodyw1

Usual Suspects

Check out BC page today. It's going to be another revert war. As you aren't me, and as you fee; having a Cobra Response subsection is appropriate (I still don't!), you obviously have a good sense for what you consider to be NPOV. Therefore, if for some reason I'm being blind to Tommy's claims, I'd hope you'd chime in. At this point, I think he's just being an ass.User:Jodyw1

Fair use rationale for Image:Bryan kocis.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bryan kocis.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Problem with bots

In the skinhead article, your bot changed the name of the band Anti-Heros to something else. In the editing field, there is a message before that paragraph pointing out that the band's name is, in fact Anti-Heros, and not the spelling that your bot changed it to.Spylab 14:04, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Spylab

Anti-Heros

The correct spelling for the band name is Anti-Heros, not Anti-Heroes. I've reverted your edit accordingly. Cheers. L0b0t 20:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that! Laïka 20:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Miscorrection

On Lincoln Southwest High School, you changed "allot" to "a lot". The word "allot" was intended. Here's the context:

Due to a requirement for the school to allot 90 minutes to each final, the release of students had to be delayed 15 minutes due to this incident.

--64.89.60.137 22:09, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that! Although used in british english, its not too common, with allocate used more frequently. Reedy Boy 08:46, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
A quick look at your user contributions reveals that there are allot (!) of these "corrections" - are you going to go back and put them right? Gaius Cornelius 22:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Changed the ones that hadn't been corrected Reedy Boy 08:25, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you've also done the same thing on Lords reform! I can't quite see why since allot is in my OED as selection by lot, what's the problem? --Mike 15:58, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

naming ".DS_Store"

Hi, I saw you corrected some linked by removing the "_"s in them. Thanks for that! On the File Allocation Table table, however, you mistakenly changeed ".DS_Store" into ".DS Store" - however the file name in question is really containing an underscore. I'll correct it again, just letting you know so you know not to make this mistake again :) --Tempel 13:47, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Ah sorry about that, its not one that you would notice normally. Thanks for informing me it! Reedy Boy 16:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Your Computer Upgrade

Just a thought, get an E6600 over a E6400 as its got more cache, and it preforms loooads better =P

I know its like £60 more, but it'd probably be worth the investment ;)

Reedy Boy 23:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Reedy Boy: thanks for the suggestion. However, the computer has arrived already, and I couldn't be happier with the E6400 :-). I've got it overclocked to about 2.3 GHz, and it's perfectly stable on stock cooling and super-fast. I'm actually not going to be using this chip for too long, which is why I didn't go for the E6600. I'll be upgrading to quad-core when they hit the market and have dropped to a semi-reasonable price. —Mets501 (talk) 03:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hebrew; Bare in mind -> Bear in mind

Hi there,

  1. I took the liberty to fix a spelling mistake on your user page. Please revert it if you don't like it.
  2. I can't find Hebrew in the list of languages in AWB.

--Amir E. Aharoni 09:21, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Bear - Is an animal, Bare isn't, its a different meaning! Reedy Boy 12:01, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you placed an uncategorized tag on the article Theatre Under the Stars (Vancouver). The tag states that this article should be categorized under one or more categories. I am not sure if you are aware that the article was in three categories on its mainpage namespace, and three categories on its discussion page as part of the WikiProject Vancouver. Categories for articles are not always included in the code as [[category:]]. They can be transposed on to the page in stubs. You can check if the article has categories by looking at the bottom of the mainpage namespace. Your changes have been reverted as a result of my findings. Mkdwtalk 04:19, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Incorrect edit

Please watch your automatic edits. this is the second time you incorrectly capitalized the species epithet. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Likewise, [8] improperly capitalized kw (the ISO 639 code for Cornish) as kW, which is wrong, as such codes are virtually always lowercase.--Prosfilaes 15:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about both, will watch out for similar in the future! Reedy Boy 15:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Need some help

Hi Reedy Boy, I am looking for some helpwith the Kingbotk plugin... Kingboy told me you were available for pestering as he's given you developer access:). Actually we are using the generic plugin for the India wikiproject. Can you develop an India specific plugin for us like there are currently for biography and Australia projects? Thanks — Lost(talk) 15:53, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I will be happy to look at doing this. Im not going to make a start tonight, as ive got some outstanding peices of work to complete, and a few other commitments. Tommorow at college, i've got free time, and after college i can spend some time getting to know the code. I should then be bale to make a start! Reedy Boy 20:12, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Please let me know if any inputs required from me. — Lost(talk) 09:28, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! We've got a few problems with the code gaining random errors, but when this has been sorted out, i'll be able to get onto work with Reedy Boy 10:07, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Steve has sorted most of the bugs/code problems, just a few remaining. I have done most of the groundwork for the India based from the australia project. There are a few things i dont know how they are set up, so steve will need to check it over, and sort the last few bugs Reedy Boy 22:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

From User talk:Lostintherush

(copied from my page) Hi, Been through the bits of code i wasnt sure about with steve to test it. Think we've sorted the few last problems, and we've sorted the code bugs

Just need a small test category to try with the plugin to check its all working. Any ideas?

Reedy Boy 20:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Reedy Boy, You could check with Category:Cities and towns in Himachal Pradesh. This one would be part of the workgroup Indian cities. So we would use cities=Yes. Thanks a lot — Lost(talk) 02:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
On second thoughts, did you want me to do the testing? If so, I'd be glad to! — Lost(talk) 11:59, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Small problem with those AWB changes

Hi! When you're changing things like "december" to "December", you need to avoid changing any of the interwiki language tags. In many foreign languages, the day and month names are not capitalized. For example, everything you changed in this edit was already correct, so you actually introduced some errors. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:54, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Righto, sorry! I thought they would've been, but i suppose thats an English spelling rule... There are a few things like that... I'll request for a change to be put in for it Reedy Boy 22:55, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

I just did a quick scan, and it looks like most, if not all, of the december -> December changes you just made introduced errors in the language tags; can you change them all back? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:58, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, my mistakes, only right if i fix them. Ill just change them all/revert the edits. If you fancied doing some of them, it'd help/be appreciated =) Reedy Boy 22:59, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Blanking of Cream (band)

Not quite certain what happened, but your edit of Cream (band) blanked the article. The diffs in history don't show it as a blanking at your edit, but that version comes up empty. The next edit after yours shows as a full restore. Might want to check what AWB is doing and bring it up in the appropriate tech discussion (at pump or AWB). Thanks. *Spark* 00:13, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Check out WP:VPT#CFD_hiccup and the section after it. Looks like some sort of glitch in the system, doesn't seem to be specific to your actions. *Spark* 00:41, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Cheers for letting me know, i noticed one other article the same, but thought nothing of it, and just reverted the edit Reedy Boy 09:36, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Since you disappeared off MSN... :)

Tested the India plugin and seems to be fine. I spotted and fixed one mistake though. These properties tell the plugin manager what class= argument to use for categories and templates, and should match the actual template. In the case of WPIndia it's not class=NA it's class=Cat and class=Template:

Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property CategoryTalkClassParm() As String
            Get
                Return "Cat"
            End Get
        End Property
Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property TemplateTalkClassParm() As String
            Get
                Return "Template"
            End Get
        End Property

I think I've fixed the date formatting by adding System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = New Globalization.CultureInfo("en-US") to PluginManager.Initialise(). Have set my Windows to French language and am doing another tagging run with logging now to test it. --kingboyk 18:08, 3 December 2006 (UTC) PS If you haven't already, could you add User:Kingbotk/Plugin to your watchlist please?

Thanks Reedy Boy and Kingboyk for the speedy plugin. It works great!!! — Lost(talk) 14:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

RfC on Mitsos

Hi. I'm acting as advocate for an editor who has been having issues with Mitsos. As part of the DR process, we have opened an RfC in order to get community input on behavior that several users feel is uncivil and biased. Seeing as how you have interacted with Mitsos in the past, we would appreciate any input you may have on the matter. Please visit the Request for Comment page and leave your thoughts. Thanks very much, Bobby 16:08, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Using AWB

Hello, you should preview the effects of using AWB before committing the changes. For example, in List of religions the AWB removed all the links in the titles; while this is usually a good thing, it isn't applicable to pages which are just links because there are no other locations to link to the term. Regards, -- Jeff3000 18:26, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. Like you said its usually a good thing, and didnt realise those links were needed on that page Reedy Boy 19:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Alexandre Frota

Hi. I notice you've made edits in the past to the Alexandre Frota article. I've expressed several concerns about the article on its Talk page; please take a moment to read them and help edit the article to meet Wikipedia policies and guidelines, or it may be deleted.

(If your edits were strictly of the maintenance variety, and this information doesn't interest you, please pardon any perceived intrustion.)

Typo amending

It's great that you're sorting out some of the horrendous typos that litter Wikipedia, but please take care with anachronisms. With this diff ([9]) you amended a direct quote of a centuries-old text. It so happens that there are a few of us working hard on the Chess article currently, trying to make it worthy of its FA status (it was in a terrible mess) so your edit was noticed, but many articles aren't particularly watched, which makes it all the more necessary to be careful when using a tool for automated typo amends. Cheers. --Dweller 11:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Cheers for bringing this to my attention. I'll ask the developers of AWB to exclude typo fixing in the blockquote areas. Reedy Boy 11:43, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Good idea! Thanks --Dweller 12:20, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I think it would be better if you just tried to pay attention to the edits you make with AWB. You made an edit to Backgammon which was labeled as a typo correction, but actually just changed the name attribute of a ref tag. Please see WP:AWB for AWB usage guidelines. ptkfgs 17:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I am partially keeping a watch on it. It gets confusing with some stuff being on the actual page, and some on talk pages. Im awaiting to hear from steve to see if im ok to do some re-arrangement of that. As for actually looking at the errors, I think the only current outstanding bug is as you reported about the logs. Which im unable to currently look into as my pc is being a pain and wont load the IDE... Reedy Boy 19:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
As I said on the talk page, it's kind of a design issue rather than a bug, as I always give the second session on the same day a new name. However, it's quite a bad design idea and needs to be made more user friendly. We can talk about it on MSN.
Thanks for tidying up the plugin page. The new versions table looks wonderful, except that it Firefox 2 it's defaulting to a label of "Hide" but with the content already hidden.
Please go ahead and make any changes you see fit to the plugin page. The only proviso is that the section containing news about releases should be on the main page, because I ask users to watchlist that page to check for updates. Beyond that, feel free to tinker away! --kingboyk 08:17, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Proper noun?

What is your basis for capitalizing "united kingdom" ==> "United Kingdom" with reference to ancient Israel and Judah? I don't believe anyone uses "United Kingdom" as a proper noun to refer to the resulting state (though perhaps I am wrong, in which case I'd be genuinely interested to see a reference for that), but, in any case, "United Kingdom" with caps strongly suggests the present-day UK, so I would hesitate to use it even if some author has: certainly most don't. - Jmabel | Talk 06:19, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

This is a built in 'typo fix' in Regextypofix. It will be capitalised based on the United Kingdom being the UK - ie england.. It will be based on most uses of the full uk would be referencing the uk... Reedy Boy 13:53, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
