WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 3

Greetings! For this month's issue...

We have demos!

After a lengthy research and design process, we decided for WikiProject X to focus on two things:

  • A WikiProject workflow that focuses on action items: discussions you can participate in and tasks you can perform to improve the encyclopedia; and
  • An automatically updating WikiProject directory that gives you lists of users participating in the WikiProject and editing in that subject area.

We have a live demonstration of the new WikiProject workflow at WikiProject Women in Technology, a brand new WikiProject that was set up as an adjunct to a related edit-a-thon in Washington, DC. The goal is to surface action items for editors, and we intend on doing that through automatically updated working lists. We are looking into using SuggestBot to generate lists of outstanding tasks, and we are looking into additional options for automatic worklist generation. This takes the burden off of WikiProject editors to generate these worklists, though there is also a "requests" section for Wikipedians to make individual requests. (As of writing, these automated lists are not yet live, so you will see a blank space under "edit articles" on the demo WikiProject. Sorry about that!) I invite you to check out the WikiProject and leave feedback on WikiProject X's talk page.

Once the demo is sufficiently developed, we will be working on a limited deployment on our pilot WikiProjects. We have selected five for the first round of testing based on the highest potential for impact and will scale up from there.

While a re-designed WikiProject experience is much needed, that alone isn't enough. A WikiProject isn't any good if people have no way of discovering it. This is why we are also developing an automatically updated WikiProject directory. This directory will surface project-related metrics, including a count of active WikiProject participants and of active editors in that project's subject area. The purpose of these metrics is to highlight how active the WikiProject is at the given point of time, but also to highlight that project's potential for success. The directory is not yet live but there is a demonstration featuring a sampling of WikiProjects.

Each directory entry will link to a WikiProject description page which automatically list the active WikiProject participants and subject-area article editors. This allows Wikipedians to find each other based on the areas they are interested in, and this information can be used to revive a WikiProject, start a new one, or even for some other purpose. These description pages are not online yet, but they will use this template, if you want to get a feel of what they will look like.

We need volunteers!

WikiProject X is a huge undertaking, and we need volunteers to support our efforts, including testers and coders. Check out our volunteer portal and see what you can do to help us!

As an aside...

Wouldn't it be cool if lists of requested articles could not only be integrated directly with WikiProjects, but also shared between WikiProjects? Well, we got the crazy idea of having experimental software feature Flow deployed (on a totally experimental basis) on the new Article Request Workshop, which seeks to be a place where editors can "workshop" article ideas before they get created. It uses Flow because Flow allows, essentially, section-level categorization, and in the future will allow "sections" (known as "topics" within Flow) to be included across different pages. What this means is that you have a recommendation for a new article tagged by multiple WikiProjects, allowing for the recommendation to appear on lists for each WikiProject. This will facilitate inter-WikiProject collaboration and will help to reduce duplicated work. The Article Request Workshop is not entirely ready yet due to some bugs with Flow, but we hope to integrate it into our pilot WikiProjects at some point.

I'm sorry, this is my first article in the English Wikipedia, I may have missed some of the factors. The main mistake is absence links from non-English language.

At this point it is corrected. To the list of external sources added two TV shows with artists (including one devoted entirely to him) with national Bulgarian TV, two broadcast with National Bulgarian Radio, several interviews given to various publications and publishing houses in Bulgaria. If that's not enough, I can find other links.

In addition, fixed other minor bugs (internal links to other pages, etc.)

Moreover, this section requires adding a subsection "Bulgarian watercolor painters" to "Bulgarian painters." What do you think? (I plan to write a few articles about the Bulgarian watercolorist)

I agree with principle "one nick is one account", but in the rules says:

Editors who want to use more than one account for some valid reason should provide links between them on the respective user pages (see below), with an explanation of the purpose of each account or of the relationship between them.

I have the same nickname with different writing - in English (Elena Elk) and in Cyrillic (Элена Элк) because I am the editor of the English Wikipedia, and the editor of Russian and Bulgarian Wikipedia sections, where articles are writed in the Cyrillic alphabet.

As soon as we started the discussion, I immediately pointed to you my second nickname, that is, it seemed to me I act correctly.

If this is not so, I would like to understand whether can join the two accounts into one with preservation of the contributions of both and the date of occurrence of the oldest account of them? And if possible, who can do that?

Another contested PROD

Re: Webster, Sheffield, Fleischman, Hitchcock & Chrystie

Hi you proposed this page for deletion on 7 April. I only noticed the PROD now, and the page is already deleted. I was the author of the page. Unfortunately I can't see what I wrote so that I can justify its existence.

I believe the page should continue to exist for the following reasons:

1. There is a detailed Wikipedia biography page for the law firm's founder, Bethuel M. Webster. 2. A link from Bethuel Webster's page to his law firm's page seemed helpful. 3. The former mayor of New York, John Lindsay, another prominent person with a Wikipedia biography, was also a partner of the Webster Sheffield law firm 4. It received regular coverage in the New York Times, a prominent newspaper. 5. Numerous defunct law firms are covered by Wikipedia articles, and defunct law firms of the United States is a recognized category. 6. Numerous defunct New York City establishments are covered by Wikipedia articles.

Can you please tell me what I can do to reinstate the page (beside writing it again), or appealing the PROD?

Vandalism for Rosa Raisa

Dear Piotrus As a member of the WikiProject Poland, I would like to inform you about the constant vandalism of an unregistered user in the article called Rosa Raisa. Without sources, references or bibliography the user is changing the nationality and name of the character that the article is based on. Additionally the user also deleted all the categories at the bottom relating to Poland. I simply asked if he/she could include sources that support the argument, but this did not happen. I personally do not know the answer (the argument is about the nationality of Rosa Raisa; whether she declared herself Russian-Jewish or Polish-Jewish), but the user also threatened to report me simply for asking about a source.

Oliszydlowski is flagrantly misrepresenting what happens. I DID provide the full reference, citing the authoritative book published by the US academic press. Even after I provided the reference on his talk page (which can also be found in the Wikipedia article on Rosa Raisa'se), Oliszydlowski again refused to respect the fact about this soprano. I used my IP address because I didn't have the Wikipedia account at that time. Now I have created it to report his abuse of Rosa Raisa's page. Oliszydlowski needs to provide his documented sources for his claims. I have already provided mine on his talk page. Resorting to misleading words such as "vandalism" is unethical, especially when lying that I didn't provide any source. See Oliszydlowski's talk page and the full citation of the book about Raisa I provided earlier today. Shameful! Your edit for Simon Segal

After the administrator Ed Johnston suggested Simon Segal as an example (or similar) for someone born in Bialystok in the 1890s, you went to Segal's page to insert "Polish-Jewish" for his identity. You referenced it to a general book (not his detailed biography). Note that other general books identify him as "Russian-Jewish". For example, Maren Tova Linett, "Modernism, Feminism, and Jewishness" (Cambridge University Press 2007, pg. 8): "Simon Segal, a compassionate Russian-Jewish painter." Another example-- Lilian PizzichiniI, "The Blue Hour: A Portrait of Jean Rhys" (Bloomsbury Lives of Women, 2010): "His name was Simon Segal. He was a melancholic Russian Jew" I have not removed your edit but assume that you would do it in the light of these alternative designations of his ethnicity. Świerszczyk - Notable?

Hi Piotrus, I have recently finished going through unassessed child lit project articles and have commenced going through their stubby low importance articles (starting with the last ones of course:)). I have just placed a notability tag on the above article which you created in Nov 2007. It has had a ref tag since April 2008. I went to the polish wikipedia to find some useable references but their article doesn't have any references either. Are you able to find some references, I have started a google search but as most of the pages found are in the Polish language which I don't know it is pretty slow going, or would it be okay to put it up for afd? thanks. Hi Piotrus, here is another one you created in June 2007. Again, nothing has really been added since then, I have added notability and ref tags. Again, I have checked with the Polish Wikipedia, where the article has a reference tag. It does have a reference but is unverifiable as its not online. Similarly, can it be improved or should it just be put up for afd? ps. sorry but the wikilab list of stubby/low Child Lit articles has at the end of the list articles with non-English so not sure if there are more Polish ones. WikiCup 2015 May newsletter

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by India The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Belarus Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Thanks for putting in the word secret. I do think that makes it better, although the page seems to have been reverted.

Probably it has to be worded very carefully, to the effect the Congress and its staffers have not been given access to the wording, while corporate lawyers have.

I appreciate your work in trying to make the article more illuminating within the constraints imposed by the system.

Hi there,

Sadly, I'm useless when it comes to inline references - I only manage the English-only ones reasonably because of the Make Reference Tool https://tools.wmflabs.org/makeref/ and because I can read English (and sadly not Polish). When I'm translating (c/- enthusiasm and Google Translate) I'm often lost and can't read what the text is referring to. Fortunately, the people who did the original amazing Polish version of Tchorek Plaques, came back and added the references back in. So they might be more help to you than me - sorry!

Peace race U23

Hello Piotrus, I must say im really new to wikipedia and i dont understand all the usual fluff around, and dont understand why to delete [Peace race U23]. The race is new and separate race, which is hoping to follow history of [Peace race] but is not the same as world of cycling has evolved since end of era od "amateur" category and so on. In just three years it moved to Ncup category (same as Avenir) and as such it needs separate page where community will be definitely working on this article in future. The user guide has more information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has created new interfaces for the link and citation tools, as well as fixing many bugs and changing some elements of the design. Some of these bugs affected users of VisualEditor on mobile devices. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. The worklist for April through June is available in Phabricator.

A test of VisualEditor's effect on new editors at the English Wikipedia has just completed the first phase. During this test, half of newly registered editors had VisualEditor automatically enabled, and half did not. The main goal of the study is to learn which group was more likely to save an edit and to make productive, unreverted edits. Initial results will be posted at Meta later this month.

Recent improvements

Auto-fill features for citations are available at a few Wikipedias through the citoid service. Citoid takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. If Citoid is enabled on your wiki, then the design of the citation workflow changed during May. All citations are now created inside a single tool. Inside that tool, choose the tab you want (⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-auto⧽, ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-manual⧽, or ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-reuse⧽). The cite button is now labeled with the word "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" rather than a book icon, and the autofill citation dialog now has a more meaningful label, "⧼Citoid-citeFromIDDialog-lookup-button⧽", for the submit button.

The link tool has been redesigned based on feedback from Wikipedia editors and user testing. It now has two separate sections: one for links to articles and one for external links. When you select a link, its pop-up context menu shows the name of the linked page, a thumbnail image from the linked page, Wikidata's description, and/or appropriate icons for disambiguation pages, redirect pages and empty pages. Search results have been reduced to the first five pages. Several bugs were fixed, including a dark highlight that appeared over the first match in the link inspector (T98085).  

The special character inserter in VisualEditor now uses the same special character list as the wikitext editor. Admins at each wiki can also create a custom section for frequently used characters at the top of the list. Please read the instructions for customizing the list at mediawiki.org. Also, there is now a tooltip to describing each character in the special character inserter (T70425).

Several improvements have been made to templates. When you search for a template to insert, the list of results now contains descriptions of the templates. The parameter list inside the template dialog now remains open after inserting a parameter from the list, so that users don’t need to click on "⧼visualeditor-dialog-transclusion-add-param⧽" each time they want to add another parameter (T95696). The team added a new property for TemplateData, "Example", for template parameters. This optional, translatable property will show up when there is text describing how to use that parameter (T53049).

The design of the main toolbar and several other elements have changed slightly, to be consistent with the MediaWiki theme. In the Vector skin, individual items in the menu are separated visually by pale gray bars. Buttons and menus on the toolbar can now contain both an icon and a text label, rather than just one or the other. This new design feature is being used for the cite button on wikis where the Citoid service is enabled.

The team has released a long-desired improvement to the handling of non-existent images. If a non-existent image is linked in an article, then it is now visible in VisualEditor and can be selected, edited, replaced, or removed.

Hello friends! We have been hard at work these past two months. For this report:

The directory is live!

For the first time, we are happy to bring you an exhaustive, comprehensive WikiProject Directory. This directory endeavors to list every single WikiProject on the English Wikipedia, including those that don't participate in article assessment. In constructing the broadest possible definition, we have come up with a list of approximately 2,600 WikiProjects. The directory tracks activity statistics on the WikiProject's pages, and, for where it's available, statistics on the number of articles tracked by the WikiProject and the number of editors active on those articles. Complementing the directory are description pages for each project, listing usernames of people active on the WikiProject pages and the articles in the WikiProject's scope. This will help Wikipedians interested in a subject find each other, whether to seek feedback on an article or to revive an old project. (There is an opt-out option.) We have also come up with listings of related WikiProjects, listing the ten most relevant WikiProjects based on what articles they have in common. We would like to promote WikiProjects as interconnected systems, rather than isolated silos.

A tremendous amount of work went into preparing this directory. WikiProjects do not consistently categorize their pages, meaning we had to develop our own index to match WikiProjects with the articles in their scope. We also had to make some adjustments to how WikiProjects were categorized; indeed, I personally have racked up a few hundred edits re-categorizing WikiProjects. There remains more work to be done to make the WikiProject directory truly useful. In the meantime, take a look and feel free to leave feedback at the WikiProject X talk page.

Stuff in the works!

What have we been working on?

  • A new design template—This has been in the works for a while, of course. But our goal is to design something that is useful and cleanly presented on all browsers and at all screen resolutions while working within the confines of what MediaWiki has to offer. Additionally, we are working on designs for the sub-components featured on the main project page.
  • A new WikiProject talk page banner in Lua—Work has begun on implementing the WikiProject banner in Lua. The goal is to create a banner template that can be usable by any WikiProject in lieu of having its own template. Work has slowed down for now to focus on higher priority items, but we are interested in your thoughts on how we could go about creating a more useful project banner. We have a draft module on Test Wikipedia, with a demonstration.
  • New discussion reports—We have over 4.8 million articles on the English Wikipedia, and almost as many talk pages as well. But what happens when someone posts on a talk page? What if no one is watching that talk page? We are currently testing out a system for an automatically-updating new discussions list, like RFC for WikiProjects. We currently have five test pages up for the WikiProjects on cannabis, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and Ghana.
  • SuggestBot for WikiProjects—We have asked the maintainer of SuggestBot to make some minor adjustments to SuggestBot that will allow it to post regular reports to those WikiProjects that ask for them. Stay tuned!
  • Semi-automated article assessment—Using the new revision scoring service and another system currently under development, WikiProjects will be getting a new tool to facilitate the article assessment process by providing article quality/importance predictions for articles yet to be assessed. Aside from helping WikiProjects get through their backlogs, the goal is to help WikiProjects with collecting metrics and triaging their work. Semi-automation of this process will help achieve consistent results and keep the process running smoothly, as automation does on other parts of Wikipedia.

hello @Piotrus: thank you for your comment yes of course newspaper articles have been published. I know where to look, will need to go to the library and find archived copies of newspapers from the 50s and 60s (unfortunately Google cannot index such old hardcopy newspapers and magazines).

Proposed deletion of Mercator Medical S.A.

Hi Piotrus, I would like to recreate the article which was deleted - Mercator Medical S.A. I think that it meets criteria and it is notable because Mercator Medical is the first polish company which has done industrial investment in Thailand, have plans for investing more money in Thailand's area. It has 1% of sales of medical gloves globally with an appetite for more. Mercator delivers gloves to 45 countries across the world. Mercator expands on the US/Africa market in near future. Hello. I noticed your edit of 23 March 2015 on Islamic State of Iraq, mentioning a "C-Class" qualification. Can you explain to me where and when and how such decisions are reached or decided, especially also in this case? As long as I don't know the answers to that, I of course can't yet say whether or not I agree with this quality sign. Could you be more specific as to the deletion of Janek Ambros? I made the page for him and he's had more than one event, having directed the upcoming documentary "Imminent Threat" with Academy Award nominee James Cromwell that will be in theatres September 4th and produced "Ten Thousand Saints" a film staring 4 time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, and Asa Butterfield. This is among the more than twenty independent/art house films he's made for nearly half a decade.

About the title War of the Polish Succession (1587–88)

Dear Piotr, perhaps you remember me…yet we don’t are in contact for a long time. In short, I got an e-mail from the French Wikipedia asking me to translate this article from English to French. Even my French is pretty rusty nowadays I did it as better as I could in order to help. My poor French is not the issue here. The title is.

French Wikipedia administrators disagree with it too.

Reading the Talk page I saw you disagree with the title too. Unfortunately this article is not in Polish Wikipedia. Also, it was already translated to Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian and Iranian… always with the same title (unfortunately).

Some fool—probably a middle-school pupil in Italy—keeps dumping random Italian scientists into the "List of multiple discoveries".

He obviously doesn't understand the concept of "multiple discovery", described by various sociologists, including Robert K. Merton.

I'm tired of trying to enlighten him and constantly reverting his idiocies.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team have been working on mobile phone support. They have fixed many bugs and improved language support. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving language support and functionality on mobile devices.

Wikimania

The team attended Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City. There they participated in the Hackathon and met with individuals and groups of users. They also made several presentations about VisualEditor and the future of editing.

Following Wikimania, we announced winners for the VisualEditor 2015 Translathon. Our thanks and congratulations to users Halan-tul, Renessaince, जनक राज भट्ट (Janak Bhatta), Vahe Gharakhanyan, Warrakkk, and Eduardogobi.

For interface messages (translated at translatewiki.net), we saw the initiative affecting 42 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 56.5% before the translathon, and 78.2% after (+21.7%). In particular, Sakha improved from 12.2% to 94.2%; Brazilian Portuguese went from 50.6% to 100%; Taraškievica went from 44.9% to 85.3%; Doteli went from 1.3% to 41.2%. Also, while 1.7% of the messages were outdated across all languages before the translathon, the percentage dropped to 0.8% afterwards (-0.9%).

For documentation messages (on mediawiki.org), we saw the initiative affecting 24 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 26.6% before translathon, and 46.9% after (+20.3%).  There were particularly notable achievements for three languages. Armenian improved from 1% to 99%; Swedish, from 21% to 99%, and Brazilian Portuguese, from 34% to 83%. Outdated translations across all languages were reduced from 8.4% before translathon to 4.8% afterwards (-3.6%).

We published some graphs showing the effect of the event on the Translathon page. Thank you to the translators for participating and the translatewiki.net staff for facilitating this initiative.

Recent improvements

Auto-fill features for citations can be enabled on each Wikipedia. The tool uses the citoid service to convert a URL or DOI into a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. You can see an animated GIF of the quick, simple process at mediawiki.org. So far, about a dozen Wikipedias have enabled the auto-citation tool. To enable it for your wiki, follow the instructions at mediawiki.org.

Your wiki can customize the first section of the special character inserter in VisualEditor. Please follow the instructions at mediawiki.org to put the characters you want at the top. 

In other changes, if you need to fill in a CAPTCHA and get it wrong, then you can click to get a new one to complete. VisualEditor can now display and edit Vega-based graphs. If you use the Monobook skin, VisualEditor's appearance is now more consistent with other software.

The team will be changing the appearance of selected links inside VisualEditor. The purpose is to make it easy to see whether your cursor is inside or outside the link. When you select a link, the link label (the words shown on the page) will be enclosed in a faint box. If you place your cursor inside the box, then your changes to the link label will be part of the link. If you place your cursor outside the box, then it will not. This will make it easy to know when new characters will be added to the link and when they will not.

On the English Wikipedia, 10% of newly created accounts are now offered both the visual and the wikitext editors. A recent controlled trial showed no significant difference in survival or productivity for new users in the short term. New users with access to VisualEditor were very slightly less likely to produce results that needed reverting. You can learn more about this by watching a video of the July 2015 Wikimedia Research Showcase. The proportion of new accounts with access to both editing environments will be gradually increased over time. Eventually all new users have the choice between the two editing environments.

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Scotland Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Philadelphia Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4. Somerset Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5. Washington, D.C. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6. Somerset Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7. United States Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8. England Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

Dear Piotrus,

Michael Gericke is worthy of a Wikipedia page. He is a senior partner of Pentagram, widely considered to be one of the most important design firms in the world. Many if not most of our other partners have biographies on Wikipedia. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, the world's organization of distinguished graphic designers. He has designed many iconic symbols, logos and graphic systems.

We have been adding additional information and citations and working to expand the biography.

I work for Michael and I understand the conflict of interest, but it is our hope that others will build on and expand the bio.

I appreciate your help and ask that you not delete the biography.

Proposed Article for Deletion - CaratLane

Hi Piotrus! Thank you for looking at the CaratLane page. I am writing in response to your message and proposed deletion of the article. The reason you put forward was because it did not meet the general notability guidelines. The second time I submitted the article in question for creation, it was accepted in terms of notability i.e. it met the requirements of significant coverage, reliable secondary sources (all newspaper and independent third-party sources.) This was supported by members of the help group from where I had asked for guidance at that time and the wiki editor who rejected the article previously, in addition to the next wiki editor who approved its creation. With feedback from the help group and the first wiki editor, references are links from various independent, third party sources including VCCircle, The Hindu and Business Standard

The recent edit to the already published CaratLane page was with regard to a 3D Application which is a new feature in the jewellery buying market in India. This is a change from the traditional method of going to a store to buy jewellery. This news was sourced from International Business Times and the Business Standard. If this edit is a problem do let me know how to improve it. CaratLane has been in the news more since this article was created and I am working on adding the new information to the page - I hope this will contribute to bettering this page. I will be happy if you can take another look at it once I am done with the edits and provide any suggestions.

I could accept the quote without a reference to a peer-reviewed publication. However, during a FA nomination I was several times reminded that no primary source can be cited without a connected reference to a secondary source (either by the quote or in the text). Dr. Julian represents a particular hybrid as a Polish/Italian American artist & art educator. Should she be in a different category than the present one? Saw the proposed deletion on Fiksu and wanted to respond. I thought the extensive list of secondary sources cited -- including what should be reliable secondary sources such as Inc. (magazine)., The Boston Globe, The Boston Business Journal, and VentureBeat -- would establish notability? Many of the linked references are substantial pieces of coverage of the company. I'm Cydevil38. The linked source is an online version of Encyclopedia of Korean Culture by Academy of Korean Studies. There are paper and digital versions available, but I don't have the page number for it. A more detailed online version is here[4], but from there, a specific article cannot be linked. From that version, the author is 신형식(Hyungsik Sin). It has three references, which are Samguk Yusa and two secondary sources. I'm sorry for the delayed response. Here are some contents that can be added. One is a content removed by Ogress due to lack of citation[6]. In the Korean version, it is cited from "신종원, 단군신화에 보이는 樹木信仰, 韓國史學史學報 8, 5-22 (2003)". It should be noted that she also removed Hangul name of the article, and then specified that it is within the Korean peninsula. Specification of a location of Shinshi is, to say the least, not cited.

To go further, it is part of a section called "Meaning". Korean contents are as follows:

  • 신시는 신정시대(神政時代)에 도읍 주변에 있던 별읍(別邑)으로 삼한의 소도(蘇塗)와 같은 성격의 신읍(神邑) 또는 성역으로 해석된다. 또는 지명이 아닌 환웅을 가리키는 인명으로서 삼한의 신지(臣智)와 같은 존칭이라고 해석하기도 한다.(cited from 이병도, 《한국사 -고대편-》, 진단학회, 을유문화사, 1959년).
  • '신시'를 글자 대로 풀이하자면 '신의 시장(저잣거리)'이다. 신시를 신의 도시로 해석하는 것이 종래의 설이나, 시(市)가 도시의 개념으로 사용된 것은 근대 이후므로 신시를 신불(巿:슬갑 불; 巾-총4획)로 읽어야 한다는 주장도 있다. 불은 고대말로 현재의 땅이라는 뜻으로 '벌'이라는 현대어가 남아 '벌판'등으로 쓰인다. 후대의 서라벌, 신라, 서울과 같이 필요에 의해 자연적으로 생성한 형태로 보기도 한다.(cited from 신종원, 단군신화에 보이는 樹木信仰, 韓國史學史學報 8, 5-22 (2003)).

The bold part is the content that Ogress removed. Additional Korean contents are a bit complex, and I don't think I have knowledge in field to properly translate it. You can find a lot of English sources in these searches[7][8].

As for my linked source, I can't find the page because it's online. It can be cited as an online source, with a bit more information like the article's author and publication date of the Encyclopedia.

Surprised to see that my article, June Julian, has been deleted. I never had a chance to make the suggested corrections, nor vote or add my comments to the articles for deletion discussion. Can you please reinstate it so I can make those corrections. Besides having a recent exhibition sponsored by the US Embassy in Italy with supporting press links, and now having her work currently being considered by curatorial review in several major museums, I was attempting to get additional verifiable citations for her published work.Additionally it was in the process for review by WP: Women Artists. hi Piotrus, he meets following criteria: 1 sources - articles about him and reviews of his pieces appear on major austrian websites for music, german newspapers and austrian state tv website. his work was subject of radio broadcasts in different countries. 2 was commissioned to write major orchestral works for theatres and concert halls run by german, swiss or austrian state (f.i. only other polish composer who received commission by the viennese concert hall was - as far as i know - penderecki) 3 has won several competitions not established for newcomers

it is also in my opinion notable, that his work is regularly performed worldwide. his music has been performed in more then 20 countries on all continents (except of the antarctica), which is exceptional under polish musicians born in the 80s (but also earlier). by the way, you can find a number of articles of polish musicians on wiki, which - imo - don't meet the criteria and/or have no references from reliable sources. and there is no {notable?} entry or discussion about this topic. greetings, ute73 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ute73 (talk • contribs) 07:12, April 17, 2015‎ (UTC)

Barnstar related question

I am a graphic designer and I create various Barnstars for Wikipedia which are not yet made by any one else (some are here below)-

But the problem is that these are 2.0 version thus they are not listed on Barnstars list. I mean I am not saying that mine is the best and should be listed, just asking if they should be added to the list or something other than the 2.0 version guidelines should be followed and then it could be added to the list?
