Polish-French relations
Hi Piotrus. You are off to such a great start on the article Polish-French relations that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. I was wondering, maybe you know about a Polish scouting organizations in Galicia "Stsheltsa Ogzhelets, Zwionzek" (not sure about spelling, I transliterated from Uk.). Unsuitable applicant
Ha ha (laughs nervously, runs off and hides behind the bushes)! From your cautious tone, I expect you've guessed that I'm too tunnel-visioned to be suitable for that job. It's very flattering that you thought of me, though. The truth is that, while I adore burying myself in books and editing articles until I am blue in the face, I can't think of anything more boring than administrative duties. I know that makes me selfish, and I really admire the admins for all the work they do (without which I'd have no articles to edit), but that's the way I'm made, I fear. Hello. I noticed your prod tag on this article, and I have removed it. I believe this player meets the notability criteria for professional footballers, and I have cleaned up the article a little bit to indicate notability (i.e., he has played in a fully professional league) although I'm struggling to find sources since I don't speak Polish. PBS assumed ownership of the articles and is fanatical about "reliably" sourcing just everything. If something's not in his books, it' "not reliable" and he will delete (even the really, really obvious things - including these wjere it's explained on their own pages, for example the fact the HJ were young and the VS old folks).

DYK updating
I wonder if you could make your DYK updating debut? Because we always seem to lose ground on weekends. I am not there so I can't really help, but this past weekend we went from the five day lag to a six day lag and before that, we went from a 3 to a 5 day lag. Article existed. In the furure I suggest google search in wikipedia site, with different transliterations, too (like, [ dyachenko site:en.wikipedia.org] ). I detected quite a few duplicate articles in this way, especially in arabic/persian names, which can have dozens of spellings and variants. ... I find them similar to each other; in some regard the French version is more neutral, as it makes attributed claims. Neither version uses citations, BTW ;-) Here goes an abstract of the fr version, 4 paras respectively.
- Weygand sent to Poland where the war is at its critical point.
- French intervention helps win the battle of Warsaw [maybe this straightforward claim is not the best wording in fr, but look at what follows]
- The role of Weygand is deprecated by some Polish officers. [comment: here goes one murky sentence that I spotted in enwiki too. In fr it's more understandable as attributed: "Some *Polish* *officers* deprecated the Wyegand's role by claiming that Poles won the battle themselves before the mission could return and make its report". In English this puzzles me, as it says "indeed, the battle was fought and won before the mission could return and make reports". This does not make sense to me, given its context.]
- This view (i.e. "minor role of Weygand") is shared by well-known historians of the subject, as e.g. N. Davies. *French* *historians*, while admitting that he's role wasn't crucial in fighting (as he wasn't there), still put an accent on his role in reorganizing and instruction of the Polish army and remark that the Polish aircrafts were piloted by Americans and French.
BTW, in the English version I spotted some general unfriendly tone. It's you who wrote it? ;-)

He is turning a discussion into a mess. Please see for yourself his edits there. he was also edit warring on keeping a lengthy peace he pasted there when I replaced it with the link. The page is already a mess. In order to be able to have any progress in the discussion, we must be sensible. Not only he repeats the same thousand times and ignores questions on topic. In addition to this repetitive rant, he pastes external text not accepting even the replacement by external links. Diluting editor's exchange of opinions by kilobytes of text only obstructs the discussion. So do repetitive statements pasted in every section. - Also, it is inappropriate to unilaterally rename historical articles to Polish names given: a) they have English names and b) this is English Wikipedia. Polish Wikipedia is that way. I think you honestly and truly need to acknowledge things like this, on the talk page (which you seem to be avoiding) before you initiate problems by changing articles around to forms that have little or no support in scholarly literature:
I don't see a consensus or a vote to keep it at Krakow, so I made a bold move and changed it to Cracow, which was backed up with evidence from the Encyclopedia Brittanica. I see no rationale for this move and for others in the history where a reversal of a well-intentioned editor's move goes without so much as an edit summary. I have always tried to assume good faith, but I am finding it to be increasingly difficult. I do not think, Piotrus, that you are showing NPOV. I had faith that you would turn a better leaf and work toward a better English Wikipedia and made note of such after you came to talk to me on my talk page. I have been silently been observing various shenanigans with regard to English/native naming and I found it to be an incredible affront to my intelligence to be told to have the Krakow article moved first before moving anything else. Increasingly does not mean overwhelmingly. Indeed, the EB uses "Republic of Cracow" and that name is all but discounted for the sake of the location of the article on the current city. Unbelievable. Prośba o tłumaczenie: WP:ASSESS na język polski
Witam.
Zapewne mój login i wkład nic nie mówią, ale jestem z pl.wiki i przygotowuję po cichu pewną pracę/raport. Mam zamiar przeanalizować w niej system oceny artykułów i możliwe rozwiązania, także przykłady z innej wiki. W związku z tym zwracam się z serdeczną prośbą o tłumaczenie tutejszego systemu oceny. Czy jest na to szansa? Pytam, gdyż rozumiem problemy czasowe. Najpóźniej potrzebuję mieć tekst ok. 15 września, gdyż muszę go jeszcze przeanalizować. Zwracam się jednak ze swoją prośbą tu, gdyż najlepiej przetłumaczy tekst człowiek, który się na tym zna. W dodatku mam pytanie o wersjach tego systemu dla różnych Wikiprojektów, bo coś takiego też zauważyłem.
Mam nadzieję, że ten tekst nie będzie wyrzucony za użycie języka polskiego... Jednak w języku angielskim nie potrafiłbym jeszcze opisać sytuacji.

It doesn't really matter whether all of my articles are affected or only some of them. Wiki's like a restaurant: it doesn't really matter whether you find a fly in every meal or only in the dessert. - Better yet, wiki is like a town where you can visit all sorts of restaurants with different cuisines. Plenty of Polish pierogi bars, pizzerias, stylish French bistros, English fish'n'chips eateries, and so on. However, there's only one Lithuanian restaurant with flies in every dish and a psychopathic chef running with his knife from one bar to the other, just to kill some clients here and there.
- Perhaps it's my problem that I like Lithuanian cuisine and would love to visit the restaurant. Yet, apparently I shouldn't. And I shouldn't even get near, as it's dangerous. The only remedies I know are to either kill the crazed chef (but I'd have to do it alone as there's nobody else to see the problem), open up my own Lithuanian restaurant (impossible, as the crazed chef would kill me) - or move to another town. I chose the latter option. I regret it, but what could I do?
- In other words, I can live with the fact that outright violation of wiki's rules is accepted. My skin is thick enough to stand an insult or two every now and then. I could also live with the fact that there's a bunch of idiots who make Wikipedia a place where extremist views are preferred over stable, impartial knowledge based on sources. However, I've simply had too much of both at the same time. The Lithuanians want to reinvent their own history and write it from scratch, convincing the entire world that there is only one true vision - that's fine with me. But I don't want to be a part of such a project. I have a name to defend and I can't risk that some day someone's going to point his finger at me and say "Look, that guy was among those who wrote all that rubbish". It's an either-or situation: either all of us accept the rules and try to make this project a great encyclopaedia, or there's no place for my name on the list.

- No, it's not all I like. But it's a significant part of what I like. And I'd rather be active in places I fully enjoy than in places I enjoy only partially. Wikipedia is not my country, I can chose to take part in it, or chose to stay away.
- You're right, which doesn't change a thing. When a psychopath goes berserk on the streets it really doesn't matter whether people condemn him in their conscience or not. What matters is what he does - and whether he remains unpunished. In other words, as long as he's out there, I'm staying away. No need to waste my time and my nerves. Sure, not all food is bad here, but the bad food in this particular corner spoils all the fun, at least for me. Perhaps giving up Lithuanian cuisine would be a nice option, but why exactly should I? Why a honest, decent editor should give up subjects he's interested in and leave them up to idiots who have little to no knowledge, but plenty of complexes, will to fight and delusions? Does it make WP a better place? Nope. Does it make me feel more happy? Nope. Does it make them feel at home in places they shouldn't be welcome in the first place? Yup.
- Perhaps one day the bunch of hammers will grow up or someone will finally force them to abide by the laws of Wikipedia. Until then it's not a place for me. - On dodaje nieprawidłowe interwiki - robi interwiki z okrętów (po stronie angielskiej) powiedzmy Balao (czyli II wojenny typ gdzie powstało 132 okręty) robi link do typu włoskiego który stanowiły dwa ex-amerykańskie Balao. Włosi sobie te dwa okręty nazwali od pierwszego typem Evangelista Torricelli ale ten raczej niewiele ma wspólnego z np. drugowojenymi okrętami. Po prostu robi link z 2 okrętów do 132 . Włosi jeszcze (przynajmniej niedawno) nie mieli tekstu o całym typie Balao - więc po prostu ten link jest nieprawidłowy. A ja nie jestem na tyle często na en wiki żeby tego przypilnować zeby nie dodawał tych interwiki. Już sie na tyle zrobił cwany ze do polskiej wiki nie dodaje - więc ja tego bezpośrenio nie widzę. Ale to co on robi mnie strasznie irytuje. Mógłbyś mu coś napisać na dyskusji i przypilnowac te trzy teksty ? A food for a thought
Regarding recent discussion at Jimbo's talk page, similiar issues and patterns at Occupation of Latvia and Soviet occupation of Romania and so on, I came to belief that indeed they are certain specific issues regarding the history and articles concerning members of Eastern Bloc that touch us all, no matter if we are Ukrainian, Pole, Romanian, Lithuanian, Estonian Latvian or Russian. Also-despite this there seems to be little cooperation between those editors and exchange of information, that would vastly expand the quality and value of articles concerning our past and topics involved with it. Perhaps a message board for History of Eastern Bloc would be in order where editors concerned could engage in discussion and coordinate improvement of topics associated with the issues involved. Dual names
I expect there will be move wars about which goes first, just like the unhappy Bozen-Bolzano nonsense, documented on WP:LAME; at that point you should see which English uses. I would bet the cheese is known by an Anglicized name, probably closer to the Polish than the Slovak, since more Poles have immigrated to English-speaking countries; but I don't know. With all the respect, you are not correct. As an author of this box, I made this table to list all historical settlements in the region. Darwinek bases his opinion on a marginal and incomplete table on the Czech Wikipedia. So, what Darwinek thinks does not really matter much, as his conclusions are based on wrong information. As I said already, I have much more experience as far as this topic is concerned than about anyone still alive – see my contributions to various books on the subject. Regards L. G.

Hey - so I was planning on reading over Kiev Expedition just now and likely passing it - but I just noticed the huge discussion going on. I'm required to review it tomorrow since tomorrow will be a week since the hold tag was placed on- but the problem is if I review it now I might have to fail it because the article has to be stable. Why do critics think it is a memorial to victims of the holocaust? And do they mean just the Polish holocaust? The critics' views could perhaps be quoted here to make this clear, because it is not obvious to me from the description of the texts that they refer to the holocaust specifically.
- The fact that one of them was taken from a Gestapo prison wall was a major factor in peoples' interpreting it in that way, coupled with the overwhelmingly sorrowful mood of the piece. - We have to be careful. Because there's a feeling in Poland that emphasis on the holocaust, however essential, may obscure the fact that a vast number of non-Jews died or were imprisoned in Poland too. And Gorecki may share that view, which might be why he resists the holocaust interpretation. He may be lamenting the war dead, Jew and non-Jew alike. I don't think the fact that this was inscribed on a Gestapo cell necessarily connects this to the holocaust. The Gestapo were responsible for largescale arrests and interrogations of the civilian population as part of the Nazi administration of Poland, a major undertaking. However, this could all be fixed by a direct quote or two from critics. Shall I ask a Polish editor to comment?qp10qp 12:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Its a "known bug". The software people say they have a fix, but not installed here yet.... but I'm not chasing it... I think its 97% OK and I can live without the captions. Front page day is pudding day
Oh, dear, the lead is turning into a pudding. This is a perfect example of how articles deteriorate. Someone adds a superfluous detail to the lead ("several calls to do so"). Someone else decides, without reading the rest of the article, where that point is expanded and referenced, to add a "citation needed" tag. Someone else comes along and helpfully references the point, adding all sorts of other details too, just to nail it home, without taking into account the need for a sense of proportion in the lead or the fact that all this is already covered and referenced in the body of the article. And the lead now says that the Soviets delayed because Warsaw hadn't yet fallen, whereas the body of the article gives a number of reasons from a range of sources. I don't think I'll try and sort this out until after the 24 hours, because good concise prose in the lead is a fine art and cannot be attempted while swatting flies, with one foot in a swamp. This experience convinces me that maybe it's best to cite everything in the lead in future: some people obviously don't realise that it's a deliberate style choice not to cite too much in the lead, particularly those people who start editing the lead before they've read the whole article. :(. qp10qp 15:26, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
