Hi. THanks for your message. I spent hours fixing bad information and links. I believe it is important to be accurate and there were so many glaring inaccuracies. I don't understand how this can be construed as non constructive. The Wikipedia strives for accuracy and objectivity. I hope you have a great day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonbrauer1968 (talkcontribs) 6:59 pm, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Path slopu, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

William Mariner was an Englishman who lived in Tonga from 29 November 1806 to (probably) 8 November 1810. GOCE June newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC.

Current events

Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests.

Drive and blitz reports

March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020.

Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist.

WikiCup 2020 July newsletter

The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

 • New York (state) Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
 • Botswana The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
 • England Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.

Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, Denmark MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Palestrina

Hello, I was writing an article about Palestrina, and I corrected the wikipedia entry because it had wrong citation. The composer didn't have Libera me written on his coffin according to the book that was given as a source. He had engraved his name and occupation. His composisition to to "Libera me" responsory was only sung during his funeral. Please correct that, or give another source that proves the tomb encryption. I'm not writing this to be negative, I just want the data to be accurate. I'm writing my masters thesis on the piece "Libera me" so if You know a different source that proves this anecdote please write me back With regards Karolina Zuk

Swaminarayan Sampraday

Hello, I found your talk page and wanted to see if you had time to check out this article Swaminarayan Sampraday under the Gunatit Samaj section.

I want to propose the following edit:

The Change (Update Section):
The Yogi Divine Society was established in 1966, by Dadubhai Patel and his brother, Babubhai after they were excommunicated from BAPS by Yogiji Maharaj. The brothers were expelled after it was discovered that Dadubhai illicitly collected and misappropriated funds and, falsely claiming that he was acting on the organization’s behalf, led a number of young women to renounce their families and join his ashram under his leadership. Dadubhai believed Pramukh Swami, was against him and persuaded the BAPS trustees to remove him. After Dadubhai’s death in 1986, an ascetic named Hariprasad Swami became the leader of the Yogi Divine Society. The Yogi Divine Society became known as the Gunatit Samaj and consists of several wings: namely, Yogi Divine Society, The Anoopam Mission, and The Gunatit Jyot.Yogiji Maharaj's images and prior gurus are displayed at all Gunatit Samaj temples.

I don't understand why the response to the allegation cannot be included. The main source being used is page 66 of this book https://www.google.com/books/edition/An_Introduction_to_Swaminarayan_Hinduism/tPkexi2EhAIC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=dadubhai&pg=PA66&printsec=frontcover.

You told me to ask for your help. Here I am. How do I link words to articles that do not have the same title as the intended word? This Guy Can Edit Articles (talk) 10:39, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

@This Guy Can Edit Articles:Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like this place. Yes, you can always ask me or any other user for help. I would like to share you some tips also.
 • You can link to any article in wikipedia using square brackets like this Name of article.
 • You can read more about this in the page Help:Links
 • If you want to use another name which is not the name of article in wikipedia, link like this Name you want. That is use a vertical bar "|" (the "pipe" symbol – see this page for how to type one) to create a link while labelling it with a different name on the original page.
 • Also, when starting a new conversation, always feel free to start as a new section (see the example above). This can be done by clicking New section tab.
 • Always remember to sign your post with four tildes ~~~~.
 • If you have any doubts, feel free to ask me or any other users. Also there is a space named Teahouse for asking help from volunteer editors.

Thank you.--PATH SLOPU 12:22, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Nathan For You 'Other influence'

The edit I made on Nathan For You wasn't a test, it just makes more sense to not bother with an entirely new section for 'Other influence' which is just one sentence that is also about the programme's real life influence, as with the previous section 'Publicity'. Even the title 'Other influence' is clearly a continuation of the previous category.194.207.74.116 (talk) 13:11, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

You already reverted that edit! Regards.:-)--PATH SLOPU 03:42, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, how can I make my signature as colorful as yours?

Hi, Path Slopu,
I am a new Wikipedian, and after seeing your signature, I was amazed. I went to the Wikipedia signature tutorial, and after doing some stuff in my signature, I found out that the signature editor text field just wouldn't put as much signature code (written in HTML; I know a bit of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript). It seemed like it wouldn't accept that much characters. How did you do it? My signature code (the code that I want to put into the signature code text field) is the following:

<span style="color: #008B8B">F</span><span style="color: #DAA520">r</span><span style="color: maroon;">i</span><span style="color: #F08080">e</span><span style="color: violet;">n</span>d<span style="color: #008B8B">5</span><span style="color: #DAA520">0</span><span style="color: maroon;">5</span>

Did you use external CSS or whatever? Thanks. Friend505 11:55, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Look at my previous post. I cannot get each character to have a different color. Since there wasn't enough space, I could only let the last four characters, "iend", be non-color and have the original color of the link, which is blue. Your signature looks great. Could you please tell me how you did it? Thanks. Friend505 11:56, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
@Friend505: Hi greetings, you can customise your signature as mentioned in WP:CUSTOMSIG/P. Also, do not exceed the number of character as mentioned in WP:SIGLEN. I didn't use any extra techniques. Just changed in preferences. One by one colouring may not get worked due to large markup size. But you can colour them in pairs, triplets, etc (as you wish). Also, there is another way to customise your signature, but personally I won't recommend it and it's a discouraged one. You can create a signature subpage on your userspace and place a subst: template in custom sign field (I tried once) (eg:). It is vulnerable to vandalism and may not satisfy SIGLEN policy. But you can do it as you wish. All the best! Thank you.--PATH SLOPU 12:15, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
@Path slopu: Oh, thank you so much, Path Slopu. Yeah, I hadn't noticed that the colors in your colorful signature came in pairs or triplets. Thanks. Friend505 12:18, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
@Path slopu: Thanks for your help, Path slopu. I hadn't seen any signature subpage stuff anywhere else, even in the custom signature tutorial. I have already successfully added my colorful custom signature, which is shown in my signature at the end of this post. Thanks. Friend505 13:44, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
And, actually, about what you said about vandalism might be occuring on the page. Well, when I become an admin, I can protect my own user page, which will probably protect user subpages. This will only allow auto-confirmed or confirmed users to edit stuff in my user page. Thanks. Friend505 13:45, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi greetings, please read WP:SIG#NT- there is some ideas related to above mentioned usage of substituted templates in signature. I am again saying, it is allowed but discouraged. Thank you, PATH SLOPU 13:51, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Friend505, Hi greetings, you do not need to become an admin to request the protection of a page. There is a page (WP:RPP) for requesting the protection of pages. You can request the protection of any page, if it get vandalised. If you want to protect your userpage against vandalism, you can either ask an admin or ask at RPP. Probably the request will denied if there is no trace or threat of vandalism. Thank you. PATH SLOPU 13:55, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Also, there is no need of pinging me (or any user) in their talk page. Please feel free to ask, if you have any doubts on editing. I am willing to help. Thank you. PATH SLOPU 13:58, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, Path slopu. Good idea; I only need to request a protection of my user page if vandalism starts to occur, since there would be no reason to protect if everything is good. Thanks. Friend505 18:04, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Friend505, Hi, also, please feel free to reduce the size of your current signature. It's now 342 B. According to SIGLEN policy, the signatures should not exceed 255 B. However, thank you so much for the contributions. Also, please remember to participate in TWA. Regards. PATH SLOPU 03:03, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
@Path slopu: Thanks for the advice, Path slopu. However, since the size of the signature is simply a suggestion/recommendation, I have decided not to follow it. However, I am required to follow the rule of the color contrast of my signature being at least 4.5, since the rules are defined by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Mandruss told me about this after I changed my signature to become colorful. I then changed the colors to make the contrast at least 4.5. If you would like to take a look at our discussion, please visit the bottommost section of my talk page. Thank you. Friend505 10:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Yep, I apprehend the decency that you depicted in every sphere. Thanks for ur new suggestion as well. You deserve a barnstar as well. Regards, SHISHIR DUA (talk) 04:10, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Copy-past

What if the bio is the same? I mean its for Constantine Ganosis how I can write it in the way that I can since he told me ro write it exactly like the other sites? Unfortunately, I don't have the right to make any change to this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thecganosis2 (talkcontribs) 10:03, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

 • @Thecganosis2: Simply put, content copied from official bios, especially those written by the subject themselves, are simply not appropriate for Wikipedia. I'm sorry that you seem to have entered into a business agreement to do something that Wikipedia's rules do not allow, with an apparent misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is and how it operates. I'm afraid that the specifics of your arrangements are left between you and the subject, and you will need to find some way to explain the disappointing news to them.
Wikipedia is a volunteer written encyclopedia, and not an extension of social media. If the goal of the subject is to promulgate their official bio, written to their liking and specifications, then they should do so elsewhere. There is no shortage of social media outlets for them to choose from, but Wikipedia is not one of them. GMGtalk 12:16, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
