Question from Litkyd (08:36, 9 October 2023)

Hello, who is my mentor here,

can I upload my picture on Google --Litkyd (talk) 08:36, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Litkyd, thank you for your question. Google, as a separate search engine, is unaffiliated with Wikipedia, and any images published on the internet may end up being visible on a Google search. Did you perhaps have a question about uploading images to Wikipedia? Liamyangll (talk to me!) 23:09, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Waterbottle001 (19:56, 16 October 2023)

how do i edit or create an article --Waterbottle001 (talk) 19:56, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Waterbottle001, thank you for your question. To edit an article (assuming it's not protected), just click the "Edit" or "Edit source" button that appears near the top of the page. I see you've already created your own user page, so you already have a little experience with editing pages. The Wikipedia Adventure might be useful if you want an introduction to editing, as is the introduction page at Help:Editing.
To create an article, you will first need to be autoconfirmed, done by having your account exist for 4 days (already done) and getting 10 edits (8 more as of now). Writing your own article might be difficult (even I haven't successfully made one yet), so I'd recommend getting some more experience before writing your own article. If you're really interested in doing so, however, reading Help:Your first article is essential. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, Liamyangll (talk to me!) 04:20, 22 October 2023 (UTC) [reply]

Question from Assistant247 (19:32, 21 October 2023)

Where is the "move" title to change a page title when you've had your account for more than 4 days and done more than 10 approved edits to alternated pages? --Assistant247 (talk) 19:32, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Assistant247, thank you for your question. I assume you're asking about the move button. After you become autoconfirmed, it will depend on the Wikipedia skin that you're using:
  • On the new Vector 2022 skin (the default for new users now), you will find the "move" button under "Tools", which will either be a button near the "Edit" button or on the sidebar.
  • On the legacy 2010 skin (if you're still using that), you will find the move button if you click the "More" button on the top bar, close to the "Edit" button.
You could also use the search bar and type Special:MovePage/[page name here], but this would naturally be a lot slower. If you can't find the "More" or "Move" button, there's a chance that the page is move-protected.
You should review the policy on article titles before moving a page. If you believe the move would be uncontroversial, go ahead and move it, or list a request here if you can't move it yourself. If you're not sure about a good title or if you're not 100% sure of your decision, you could list your request at requested moves. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to let me know. Question from Thatptr (13:23, 22 October 2023)

Hi! I want to start writing about stuff that happens in Zimbabwe, but i cannot find find what wikipedia declares a "reliable source" in Zimbabwe. Do newspapers count? What online news sources can i trust? PS: I made a wikipedia account for dark mode, then i realized that people write on wikipedia, i wanna help Zimbabwean Wikipedia grow :) --Thatptr (talk) 13:23, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Thatptr, thank you for your question, sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. The English Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources can be found here, and its section on newspapers can be found here. However, to clarify generally (quoting the page), news reporting from well-established news outlets is generally considered to be reliable..., while news reporting from less-established outlets is generally considered less reliable..., so try and ascertain how prominent a news outlet is. A reputable author or a recent date of publication also contribute to better reliability, but be aware of possible bias or opinion in such articles (that's just a good general rule of thumb for all sources). I hope I answered your question — if you have any further questions or need more clarification, feel free to reply. Good luck on your Zimbabwean endeavours! Question from Dr Varun Bansal (05:56, 1 November 2023)

Hello. My article goes under sandbox so i want to publish it in public --Dr Varun Bansal (talk) 05:56, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dr Varun Bansal, thank you for your question, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. You need to be autoconfirmed to be able to publish articles to the mainspace, which means (in your case) making another six edits. Alternatively, you could request an article review through the Articles for creation process, which seeks to provide assistance to new users when creating articles. However, I see three of your four edits are deleted — was your sandbox deleted? If so, it may have been tagged for speedy deletion, indicating its contents may not have been suitable for the encyclopedia.
I must warn you that writing your own article might be difficult as a new user (even I haven't successfully made one yet), so I'd recommend getting some more experience through regular editing before attempting this difficult task. If you're really still interested in doing so, reading Help:Your first article is essential. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reply. Thanks, AviCapt (talk to me!) 04:08, 13 November 2023 (UTC) [reply]

Question from Jeromefeldman (18:34, 30 January 2024)

Hi,

I want to propose a new topic "scientific mystery" .There is none now, but there are many instances in existing articles. Any wisdom?

Thanks, Jeromefeldman --Jeromefeldman (talk) 18:34, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jeromefeldman (18:51, 31 January 2024)

Hi,

I want to add a new article on "Scientific Mystery"; there is not one already, but asking it yields hundreds of uses of the phrase. Also on Google, the phrase yields ~490,000,000 results.

I assume this qualifies as support for the new entry, but how do we get this established?

It is possible that I contributed years ago under the name Jerryfeldman, if that matters.

Thanks in advance, Jeromefeldman --Jeromefeldman (talk) 18:51, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Short description

Hello. How did you notice this edit? Do long short descriptions show up somewhere? Ss112 01:31, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ss112, yes, long short descriptions (over 100 characters) are automatically categorized into Category:Articles with long short description as they are considered excessively long and require attention. Shortdesc helper will also generate the full short description below the page title, allowing you to see just how long it is in a glance. In the case of Henryk Górecki: Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs), the short description suggested by GhostInTheMachine was of a much better length than the auto-generated one.
