New page reviewer granted

Hi Liamyangll. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 19:02, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Article for deletion

Hi, my name is Emery. Looks like you're proposing my new article, SimplePlanes VR for deletion due to unreliable source. Can you explain why the article proposed for deletion more detail, or can you move it to the draft? Thanks. Emery Cool21 (talk) 13:00, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi Emery Cool21, I came across SimplePlanes VR while patrolling new pages. I couldn't find any sources on the exact topic that were reliable enough to be added to Wikipedia (see here regarding that), and as such, I was doubtful of the article's notability (i.e. is the subject "important" or "noteworthy" enough to have an article on Wikipedia).
However, your article hasn't been deleted - rather, redirected by another editor to SimplePlanes instead, which was probably the better choice. I'm a pretty new new page reviewer, so thanks for reaching out to me. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to let me know. Liamyangll (talk to me!) 07:46, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Amos De Amo on Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 (06:38, 19 June 2022)

Hello how to put pictures in the pages --Amos De Amo (talk) 06:38, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi Amos De Amo, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm assuming you're talking about this edit here. Images can only be added to Wikipedia articles if they are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons first, and local files (images on your own device) cannot technically be added to Wikipedia articles directly. As it looks like that is what you did there, I've reverted your edit as the image did not successfully display.
Uploading images to Wikimedia Commons would take way too long for me to explain in one reply here; I would recommend checking out WP:Uploading images, a page that will tell you most of what you need to know. It can be a lot to understand, so please feel free to come back if you have any more questions. Thanks, Liamyangll (talk to me!) 07:46, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello AviCapt,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11149 articles, as of 14:00, 12 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello AviCapt,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Question from SF135 (13:25, 28 August 2022)

Hello and thank you for your help. Would it be possible to remove a citation from a text if it has been placed there ill-intentionally to deliberately cause harm? I have also been trying to add a more neutral and positive citation to a text but the change keeps getting discarded and I have received blocks warnings. I am actually trying to improve the content of a page. Would you kindly help? Thank you. --SF135 (talk) 13:25, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi SF135, I understand your concerns with the article about you and know you're just trying to help. Unfortunately, no single person may dictate what any article says, even if they are the subject. Articles are written collaboratively by the whole community.
I've taken a quick look at the source you've tried to remove and it appears to be a reliable one that is usually trustworthy. The source likely wasn't put there in bad faith - however, I can't verify the contents of it as it requires payment to view. I noticed the source was published 16 years ago - maybe it's just outdated? Could you let me know which parts of the source are incorrect and which changes you wanted to make?
In the meantime, I would advise against editing the article further, as doing so would constitute edit warring under the three revert rule. Consider also bringing this up on the article's talk page if any other issues arise. Thanks, Liamyangll (talk to me!) 00:21, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
Dear Liamyangll,
thank you very much for your reply and understanding. I happen to know Joojay. who is actually particularly familiar with my work. Choosing the only negative review I have ever had is no coincidence on his part and I am afraid that having had that review on the page at the beginning of the text for more than 4 years has been quite damaging sadly, which is the intention. Wikipedia is an amazing source and if it is not possible to remove that citation, which I would like to, I would definitely like to add a positive one from the same exhibition next to it:
Sholis, Brian. “Luisa Lambri – Luhring Augustine,” Artforum, Summer 2006, p.352,353: https://www.artforum.com/print/reviews/200606/luisa-lambri-43783;
Here are other texts and reviews which are helpful and relevant to the subject, which I would like to add at the bottom of the page:
Lambri, Luisa. “500 Words: Luisa Lambri.” Artforum.com, 31 January 2017:
https://www.artforum.com/interviews/luisa-lambri-discusses-her-work-about-and-in-the-met-breuer-66278;

Would you kindly make this changes for me, as I understand it is best for me not to make them?
Thank you very much for your time and attention. They are much appreciated.
I do often use Wikipedia, and I am very thankful for your support and time, and for the services it provides.
All my best,
Luisa SF135 (talk) 10:08, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi SF135, thanks for sharing your concerns. I would like to give sort of my personal view on this. Firstly, most artists and pieces of art has gotten criticism. One of my favorite bands, that is generally considered good by critics, has a quite critical review on one of their albums. Although the review by that New York Times critic wrote was quite negative, art is ultimately subjective, one piece of negative criticism is quite a good amount to get if that's the only one you've had. I don't think much people will read the reference. I usually don't really look at references when browsing Wikipedia and I doubt many users would access it anyways due to the paywall.
On the more policy related side, as previously mentioned, no one owns an article, even the subject themselves. We operate based off consensus from editors. Multiple editors had objected to the removal of the citation. Removal is now unlikely without a discussion, and further attempts at directly removing the citation may result in your account being blocked. Additionally, because you are the subject of the article, you should not edit it directly, per the talk page notice added by Joojay... and guidelines. If you want to edit the article, you should request someone to do so and declare a conflict of interest yourself. If you want a second opinion, as you "happen to know Joojay", you should probably ask them about it. You can also consider getting consensus on the talk page of the article, pinging the other editors who have previously reverted may be helpful to getting a discussion started, but I don't think you'd get a much different response. Justiyaya 11:14, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply! I don't mind the negative review. It was very helpful at the time. I also have a lot of respect the author and often read her reviews. I understand why that particular citation was chosen by the Wikipedia user at the beginning of the page though, and suggested other reviews and citations to add to the page. Thank you for your advice! SF135 (talk) 11:55, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from Todd K Royar (09:29, 30 August 2022)

How can i put a picture in this page --Todd K Royar (talk) 09:29, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Todd K Royar, welcome to Wikipedia! You'll first have to upload your picture to Wikimedia Commons, as images on your computer will not work. The instructions are too complicated for me to put down here, but you can see here for a tutorial and click here when you're ready to upload.
If you've already uploaded your image, putting a picture in an article is quite simple but still too complicated for me to go into here. There are tutorials which help you to insert your images though: if you're using the source editor, see here. If you're using the visual editor, see here. If you need any further clarification, please don't hesitate to reply here. Liamyangll (talk to me!) 11:34, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
