Disambiguation link notification for October 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Heisman curse, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Tim Brown and Jason White. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

BVI elections

Hi Legis. No problem – I'm interested in elections in all countries! And might I also thank you for your very thorough articles on BVI elections! Another editor and I have had a mini-project for some time to try and identify elections in pretty much every country (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums/Elections and referendums) – do you think you could help on the BVI or any other countries? Cheers, Number 57 09:44, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Happy to help. I have a number of out of print BVI history books in my library. Also - no reason you would know this, but - the BVI is presently going through a process with NYU whereby people are flying down and digitising a lot of the old paper records which have just been sitting locked up in a vault for a couple of centuries,[1] so hopefully once those become accessible to the public, that will open up a lot of missing info. --Legis (talk - contribs) 01:32, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Conflict of interest - Shelby Tucker

I recently spent several hours in the public presence (a busy hospital ward) of Shelby Tucker, a man of considerable erudition, education and charm, and considerably more egocentric self-aggrandisement, who never missed an opportunity to announce to all casual passers that "those Wikipedia people have built an article about me." and "Google me, Shelby Tucker." His eloquent domineering speech pattern and character was identical to the article, such that as I read the written phrasing I could still hear the man himself. I have no reason to raise doubts about the integrity of the words, just the anonymous conflict of interest, lack of third party verification, whether he is sufficiently notable under WP:AUTHOR criteria, and if this is relevant to the sock-puppetry investigation into User talk:Orakologen. Unsound mind listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Unsound mind. Since you had some involvement with the Unsound mind redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Mr. Guye (talk) 00:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

No problem at all. I didn't actually create the article - it came to my attention because it was flagged as an "unreferenced and uncategorised" article when it was created. So I just tidied it up a bit and put in some categorisation. But it looks like you have done a lot more work and considerably improved it! Welcome to Wikipedia and keep up the good work. --Legis (talk - contribs) 08:50, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Some errors in Guy Garman article

Hi Legis, I have spotted a few problems in the Guy Garman article.

  • The claim that commercial and military divers exceed the recreational/technical scuba record depths on scuba is extremely unlikely, and is not referenced. Commercial and military diving to those depths is usually saturation diving, and to the best of my knowledge, always surface supplied. It would be illegal in most if not all European countries and several other countries with a developed diving industry to allow dives to that depth on scuba. I can't speak for classified military operations, but have serious doubts. The logistics are just plain impractical, never mind the totally unacceptable risk.
  • My calculations for gas consumption at 370msw are nowhere near 17000 litres/min. I don't know what your assumptions were, but standard commercial practice (IMCA) is to allow about 40 litres/min RMV for a working diver, and we know from experience that is generous. 20 litres per minute is reasonable for low work loads. At 370msw ambient pressure would be 38bar, so even at 40 lpm, gas consumption would be 38 x 40 = 1520 litres free gas per minute, and an Al 80 holds about 2250 litres free gas when full.
  • My estimate for a bottom gas for that dive would be about 2 to 3.5% oxygen, 0 to 8% nitrogen and the balance helium, This is a low viscosity and low density gas. Not a big problem for WoB with a good regulator, even at that depth - saturation divers breathe similar mixes for long periods. The technology of helmet demand valves is basically the same as for mouth grip DVs.
  • Heat loss would be a big issue with helium, 3mm wetsuit and 4°C water. Not surviveable in my opinion, but it seems it didn't get that far.
  • How quickly was he planning to descend? it doesn't mention it in the article. No limits freedivers descend fast using a sled and release it when they get to depth, so there is no great technical difficulty with a fast descent from that angle. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 14:55, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Peter. Will try and take a closer look at those issues and tidy them up. --Legis (talk - contribs) 16:46, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Attorney General of the Leeward Islands

I see you've put together an article listing the Attorneys General of the British Virgin Islands. Before that office was created, there was an Attorney General for the entire Leeward Islands group. I have not been able to find anything on Wikipedia about that office, nor have I been seen any list online of persons who held it. Do you have access to such a list, and if so, would you consider putting that on Wikipedia? Thanks. David Cannon (talk) 05:41, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll take a look and see what I can find out. I am sure that I should be able to dig that up somewhere. --Legis (talk - contribs) 13:21, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated! David Cannon (talk) 15:25, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Penalties in English law

Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 19:38, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Legis,

If you're around, could you take a look at the DYK section of WP:ERRORS? It's about your DYK hook. (1) someone is suggesting a re-word, and (2) I have to admit, even with the reword, I don't really understand the hook (possibly my weakness, not the hooks, but I (usually) consider myself at least as intelligent as the average reader)... any chance you could think of a way to reword for a more general (or international) audience? --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:56, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Recent edit to GUE

Hi Legis, I was checking this diff and see that the ref involved {O'Brien, B (2007). "DIR is AOK". Diver (DIVERNET: Diver magazine online)} is a dead link. I Googled it and found you may have originally added the the ref, or at least I found it mentioned on one of your user pages. Is there any chance you have the ref and can check if the change is supported by it? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 19:09, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Gosh, I have no idea. I will see what I can find... but that was a long time ago. If the link was to a magazine and it is now a deadlink, that sounds fairly irremediable. --Legis (talk - contribs) 20:31, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Attempt to nominate Local authorities swaps litigation to be a Good Article

Legis, I thought you'd want to know that your attempt to insert an entry for this nomination at WP:GAN was immediately reverted by the bot that assembles the page. If you wish to nominate the article properly, please follow the instructions for doing so at WP:GANI.

Before you do, though, I strongly recommend you read through the good article requirements page to make sure your article meets all the criteria. In particular, I noticed that the article fails to meet the criteria of 1b related to the Manual of Style—it definitely doesn't adhere to the lead section requirements. An article of this length should have about three paragraphs, and needs to summarize all of the sections of the article. In general, it shouldn't need to have reference citations in the lead, since the material should be cited in the body of the article. (The exceptions are for quoted material in the lead, and for controversial statements that should be cited wherever they occur.)

Best of luck with your nomination! BlueMoonset (talk) 22:42, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
