RFC template / Legobot explanation

The reason you had trouble with Legobot is that it scans for a signature to identify the end of the RFC-body, and it uses the timestamp to decide when the RFC template is "expired". Editing that date could trick Legobot into doing what you want, but that may be considered confusing or misleading to people. There is a better workaround to extend an RFC. If there are multiple timestamps on the same line, Legobot will use the last timestamp. So an explanatory comment (and signature) can be added directly after the original signature.

However extending the duration of this particular RFC probably wouldn't have improved the result. If you want, a new RFC would probably be the better option. Alsee (talk) 11:48, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Could you help me see what is notable about this chemical? All the refs indicate is that it exists and has various physical properties, as evidenced by database and catalog entries. There's also no evidence that the sock who added the notability tag was doing so in a problematic way. Wasn't blocked at the time, wasn't using multiple accounts on this article, wasn't a part of a pool that disrupted articles, etc. DMacks (talk) 14:36, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

fiction about categories aren't really about those things

Category:Fiction about the Solar System and the rest don't match now. Shouldn't it be "Fiction containing" instead of "fiction about"? Just because something takes place somewhere, doesn't mean its about that at all. Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress is a video game where you briefly visit the worlds in the solar system for a small part of it, it certainly not about the solar system though. The old title name of Category:Solar System in fiction made more sense. Category:Fiction about Algol has the Phantasy Star video games and other things that take place there, but aren't really about it, it just a name of a location. Movies and whatnot are the same, it not about the location. Dream Focus 04:31, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Element colors

Here you mention element category colors i.c.w. WP:A11Y. To me it looks like this is not the subject of the ANI, so I am here to write about the coloring.

1. Of course, current coloring is problematic.

2. Apart from ACCESS, there also plays the question of "what to color" (today it's category, state of matter, occurrence, in a main PT; plus wl-blue).

3. Most complicating is: nine+unk categories to color, which is huge (few degrees of freedom).

Recent months my attention for ELEMENTS was drawn away a bit, but I have put up the frame of "Periodic table graphics", to develop better colors. It's at WP:PTG (Wikipedia:WikiProject Elements/PTG). It has a single talkpage, and is intended to contain (in the object pages) un-signed statements: as a WP page. Also other PT graphics should be cvovered.

It should contain design principles (lots of WP:ACCESS), ELs, refs. Also the talkpage to develop these pages. And more graphic PT topics but category colors. That's all ;-)

With that, we can redesign these colors. (btw, "pastels" might solve a lot, but imo they are not expressive enough to make the cell-to-legend-or-vv recognition). -DePiep (talk) 00:11, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

So, my question is, what do you think? WP:PTG. Setup, go live at WP:ELEM, design! ? -DePiep (talk) 01:12, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Okay, but it needs updating for the recent decision to adopt the 2010 category scheme with no unknown category. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 10:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Hi, Your edits like [3] have caused lots of trouble here. To be clear: I am working blisters on my fingers to give us a sound base for the color development. At least, I'd prefer if you make contact about planned changes. (Working simultaneously on the same template set will never work). Second, I'd like you to communicate about your wishes in this. (btrw, I'll revert the categorisation) as it breaks templates. -DePiep (talk) 19:22, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Our major PTG approach

Hi LP03, I appreciate your involvement with WP:PTG. I am here to ask on "How shall we proceed?"

The bad cat colors are an old trouble, though I/we never took the time to attack it thoroughly. For me, that is because the requirements & issues & problems are huuuge. Multiple disciplines A11Y, W3C, CB-colorblindness), few degrees of freedom -- having 10 categories, etc. (Of course the right reply here is: stop doing it on you own! This is WP!).

For the technical stuff, we can find solutions like templates & processes (checking CB?).

My question in general is: how do we bring the PTG into strong solutions? Not just these "2020" colors (difficult by themselves enough), but also inspiring other wikis to follow us! Creating a color set that serves CB! Setting an i18n standard! For this, we need to have good and strong (color) design guidance & checks.

To be clear:

  • How and when shall we go public with PTG (=to WT:ELEM), and create a formal Task Force? (one or two weeks?)
  • How do we develop and discuss proposals? For example, I have design ideas myself, so how & where do we cheCk&discuss those?
  • What do we need to make it great? Like, external websites, othEr checks (quantitative, qualitative), Webdevelopers-help (invite Wikimedia designers?).

Details, about individual sets, we can talk about elsewhere. This is about the grand PTG route. Talks can be here, at my Talk, and preferably at WT:PTG of course.

Have a nice edit, -DePiep (talk) 21:54, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

New CSD for mass-created articles

Agree that this should be a criteria for speedy deletion. Wording might be "Mass-created article made without first seeking consensus per WP:MASSCREATION". Let me know if you start an RFC or whatever to do this and I'll support. I also think mass-creation needs to be something flagged up at NPP so it can be stopped early (e.g., more than 25 creations in 24 hours? 50 creations in 24 hours?) as the later intervention comes the worse the clean-up task is, and should be flagged even for autopatrolled users, not least because it might be a hack/vandalism. FOARP (talk) 09:35, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

@FOARP: Proposed wording:

This applies to books, content categories, files uploaded locally, mainspace editnotices, portals, and articles which make no credible claim of significance, that were mass-created by an automated or semi-automated process without community discussion or against consensus, and which have no substantial edits beyond creation.

Any revisions before I share my proposal at WT:CSD? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:52, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Frankly I'd drop the "automated or semi-automated" bit. The link to "Mass-created" anyway gets into what that means, and you see people saying "I wasn't using any tools! I was just laboriously typing everything out and creating articles every 90 seconds that way!", which ultimately shouldn't make any difference (per WP:MEATBOT) anyway. Your proposal, not a problem

Hi LaundryPizza03, I was one of the people who voted against your deletion proposal on WP:CfD. You got a lot of... negativity in the responses so I wanted to come by and say that that was not my reaction. I learned about your proposal from you, when you notified us on WikiProject:Horticulture (and I assume you did the same on a hundred other pages), so obviously there was nothing nefarious about it. You suggested it, we voted against it, nothing went wrong. (I replied saying I was voting against a "good faith stupid mistake." I hope that phrasing isn't a problem. Someone said that was uncivil, that I should not call you stupid. I had written that assuming you would understand what I really meant and that I was deescalating the comments. Hopefully you got that as it was meant. If not I can edit the comment.) It wasn't a big deal. An editor going through pages/cats and having opinions about them, sometimes wanting to delete them is what we all do every day... Invasive Spices (talk) 18:13, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

In fact, that is one of the more Kafkaesque aspects of the whole banning process under Wikipedia, that an appeal is "available" but it is effectively out of reach. 2001:8A0:67CE:CB01:1AB:D528:DC99:AEFF (talk) 15:58, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Which user are you? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 16:39, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
My guess is [4], and it's true the ban notice didn't explain how to appeal. EEng 18:16, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

New Sock Investigation

Hello,

Can you open a sock case? If you look at the user edit history of Outlander07 (talk · contribs), all the edits that Nair finds are done. In 2016, user Rebtman (talk · contribs)[5]was a user with the same personality. It was blocked by the Nair caste editor in the past.[6]It is an old user but may have come back years later. Even though the old user block has been found, a very similar edit method can be found between them. Now Outlander07 is doing destruction and other caste edits on many ips, the same edits are [7][8][9] and rebtman did the same here [10][11]. one of which is ip. Outlander07 Sock currently has a page to check.[12] Would you like to give a sock after reading the user history of Outlander07? 106.208.10.29 (talk) 08:21, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

No, but I've got a boomerang: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/എപ്പോഴും രാജാവ്. You seem to be the same user who filed this SPI report, behavior-wise. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 09:50, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

So if you have any doubts I have no complaint in checking me too. 106.208.10.29 (talk) 12:21, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

I Have Evidence To Back Up That My Sources Are Reliable With Reference To Space NukesChantern15 (talk) 06:03, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Chantern15

The AIAA is accredited by the ANSI as seen here: [1] I would also like to add that this study shows up in the usra here: [2], which is overseen by 114 Universities as seen here: [3]. Not to mention that the usra is affiliated with NASA and is under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences. It was founded by James E. Webb. I hope that this helps to some extent in clarifying that my intention is not to post links from unreliable sources.

The Amazing World of Gumball

As listing the nationality of a multinational production is discouraged, would it be fine to simply list the show as British? Only a small amount of voice acting work is done in the USA, the majority of the production is done in the UK. For example, SpongeBob Squarepants is not considered an American-Korean production despite animation being done in Korea. FanOfGumball12345 (talk) 00:19, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

I Worked Through Fringe Concepts To Arrive At A More Reasonable ConclusionChantern15 (talk) 06:30, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Chantern15

I hope that you can look at my conversation with DeathLibrarian here: [4] and see that while I started with a Fringe supposition, I worked through various logical possiblities and DL and I arrived at a more plausible and Earthly explanation. I hope that this can finally clarify that while I'm interested in Fringe concepts, it does not mean that I'm divorced from the scientific method. I wish to make a distinction that my engaging with Fringe subjects does not mean that I automatically endorse them, it just means that I wish to work through them in a scientific manner. After all, if we sacrifice curiosity and exploration for comfort and surety, all science would stop. I hope that this clarifies my stance for you. :D

I've begun a new CfD discussion for Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States; see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 September 18#Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States. As you participated in the previous discussion earlier this month you may want to take a look. All the best, – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:05, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Zr(O2CR)4?

Looking forward to seeing evidence for this compound. --Smokefoot (talk) 14:38, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Evidence? A scientific paper isn't evidence? I note that I moved the article in question to Zirconium propionate because all GScholar hits were under that title, not "propanoate". –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:07, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
No: a "A scientific paper: isn't "evidence". You might seek out some mentor (or maybe another editor) who is a chemist and can explain that many "scientific papers" make claims that are unfounded. The situation is prevalent, esp in industrial literature where the focus is often on the app vs niceties of structural proof. But thanks for the response, I understand the situation better now. Rollback granted

I have granted the "rollbacker" permission to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, contact me and I will remove it. Good luck and thanks. -- TNT (talk • she/they) 04:34, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Tendentious editing

Regarding your edit summary here, I find this an odd assertion as I have never seen the reverting of sockpuppet posts as being regarded as Wikipedia:Tendentious editing anywhere before. Rather, removal (or striking) is quite a standard procedure. I would appreciate it if you could explain why you considered it tendentious to the point where you sought to restore it. Best, CMD (talk) 23:27, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, I did not know that. How did you know they're a sock? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 00:17, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
I'm very familiar with the user in question, and the timing of that edit compared to socking on other pages. On that page specifically the very fast post in response to my edit combined with the edit warring back in by proxy IPs is a general eyebrow raise. The specific edit in question also had a classic lie about no blocked users, which aligns with the issue you independently noticed where their sources don't actually support their text. Edits on American Decline

In regard to the reversion of my edit on American decline regarding Paul Kennedy and his position on the subject, I had thought that the inclusion of the Wiki link to his book upon which my addition was based would be enough, but on further reflection, I think you were correct, and additional information to supplement the edit was necessary. Even though it's a small addition, I have been critical of Wiki in the past for loose references and statements made based on opinion rather than a more factual objective basis, and I think that being punctilious in this regard is all to the good. I've given it a second shot, hopefully successfully. Sych (talk) 23:19, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Recording artists by label categories

Hi, you closed this CfD as rename in December, but it doesn't look like it was ever completed. Do you know what needs to be done to get that finished? Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:10, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: I thought that XfDcloser would handle it automatically. Should I file a request at WP:AWBREQ to clean this up? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:19, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
Yes, that surprised me too. I don't know the best way to handle it. Can they be listed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 05:00, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
Only administrators can edit that page, so I have posted a notice at AN. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 16:30, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello, LaundryPizza03,

I wanted to alert you to kind of a fluke that exists. For some reason, when User:Ts12rAc moves a page from main space to draft space, he doesn't leave behind a redirect but a blank page. He is also listed as the page creator of that page and makes the only edit to it. But the page should be tagged as a CSD R2. We're not sure why this happens when he uses the Draftify script but it might have something to do with his status as a global rollbacker. As far as I know, he is the only editor who this happens to but it can be confusing and since you do so much patrolling, I thought I'd alert you to this peculiarity. Thanks for all of the work you do, LaundryPizza03! Liz Read! Talk! 00:19, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, how implementation of Turing machine is ok, but implementation of Lisp that is something extraordinary is possible SPAM? Did you even look at the pattern itself. It's something more complex than everything on this page. jcubic (talk) 11:20, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, I misjudged. A quick inspection of the link found no evidence of a COI, so you're off the hook. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 21:38, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I removed your G14 from the page as it is not a DAB, but a redirect. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 04:20, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

G14 applies to redirects that end in (disambiguation) and point to non-disambiguation pages. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:27, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Mercury (planet) is not a DAB, and First planet does not end in the word (disambiguation). Happy Editing--IAmChaos 04:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
You're right, I meant to delete First planet (disambiguation). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 04:41, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism again

User talk:Romancatholickochi has been indefinitely blocked since July 2021 for making POV edits on Pesaha appam page as discussed in the talk page of the article. You had resolved this and restored the page to the last good version back in 11th July 2021. Now the same POV vandalism edits are being done again with a new account (User:Hewhoknowsitall ) It seems to be the same person with new account. There is continued vandalism. Please see recent edit history. Could you please look into this. Thanks Belgdn (talk) 13:48, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

@Belgdn: Can't do anything directly about it except revert the bad edits. Next time, just file a report at the appropriate WP:SPI thread, in this case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Romancatholickochi. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 15:42, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
