Balkrishna Page Deletion

It would be great if you could kindly restore the page and tell me the sections which sound like promotional. I would remove them though they all are facts and have strong references. Didgeri (talk) 15:44, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Please also explain the rationale for deleting an article unilaterally without anyone nominating it for speedy deletion, and without review at AFD? WP:G11 should be for unambiguous promotionalism. There was some puffery there, but the article as a whole wasn't existing on Wikipedia for the unambiguous purpose of promoting the topic. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:51, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Please go away and stop enabling spammers. The article was deleted by Bbb23 then re-created by an SPA. Guy (Help!) 20:04, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Can you please tell what content did you find promotional. If you have deleted only because "The article was deleted by Bbb23 then re-created by an SPA" then it is not logically correct. It is my humble request please tell the reason and help me restore the pageDidgeri (talk) 06:56, 14 April 2017 (UTC).

Why the page "Balkrishna" has been deleted???

Hi!! Please let us know why the page has been deleted. Whenever I used to get time, I was adding things to this page. He is infact among the richest billionaires as per forbes. Didgeri (talk) 12:21, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Nolo

I decided to delete this rather than to revise it based on the feedback at the discussion at WP:RS/N here: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Nolo.com. You'll probably want to check out that discussion if you have not seen it, since it had to do with your blacklisting of Nolo.com. The editor of the AN/I also came to my talk page to discuss the post to you that I just deleted, which is why I pinged you there. --David Tornheim (talk) 04:56, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Removing references

Hi! Could you not at least place a cn tag when you remove a reference as you did at Red Turban Rebellion (1854–1856)? A thought: once you have consensus that a particular journal or publisher should not be cited here, why don't you just blacklist the link and let a bot place a notification on the articles? That'd give people time to decide how to make good the damage, and presumably save you a mass of work too. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:31, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

  • It's already on the reference revert list, it should not have been there. I review every edit, if the statement seems likely to be challenged then I usually rmeove it. here are only a small number of things you can do when removing a bogus source, and I am routinely told that whichever one I do, I should have done another one. SOmetimes people give me multiple conflicting instructions at once. That's just the way it is. Guy (Help!) 18:33, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Undisclosed paid editor Variation 25.2

Mamadoutadioukone was socking and from the looks of his edits, also an undisclosed paid editor. Doing some cleanup after them, I noticed this. It's odd to come across his edits where Vipul's team was active. - Bri (talk) 19:06, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Hmmm. I am not a huge believer in coincidences... Guy (Help!) 19:09, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Yeah it is odd. This too, considering. [1] Bri (talk) 23:32, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

JPFO links

Rule 11 of WP:ELNO allows for recognized authorities to be included. JPFO published these videos and has given permission for them to be broadcast on You Tube. Ditto for the other links. Looks like an exception to the general rule preventing Blogs and You Tube videos is what applies to these links. Have restored these links. Thanks. Miguel Escopeta (talk) 15:30, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Not really, no. That does not make it reliable or significant. Guy (Help!) 16:51, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Spam in refs and the like

Hi, good work on the Econlib spam. I have recently noticed a significant number of links being added in refs/bibliographies and the like to Amazon.com, as links to extracts where you also get the oh so wonderful chance of buying the work from Amazon. An example is in the article Historiography of the British Empire, you can see what I removed here. Do you think this is worth raising at AN, or is it perhaps something you would be interested in taking up? Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 23:10, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Oh hell yeah. This is a massive pet peeve of mine. I would like to see a bot coded that would remove all Amazon links from all articles other than the one on amazon.com. Guy (Help!) 23:19, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
+ Jytdog (talk) 23:26, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I've raised it at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam#amazon.com. DuncanHill (talk) 23:43, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Well now my removals of the amazon spam are being reverted. I don't want to get into edit wars. Can we get a site banner saying "Amazon - sponsored by Wikipedia" going do you think? DuncanHill (talk) 20:13, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Question

Please see [2]. For some reason, there seems to be increased activity at this article which had to be semi-protected at one time. There was a bit of confusion with the naming of the city, which myself and another editor worked through without issue, but there is a rather persistent editor who keeps reverting citations and/or links to the reports for whatever reason. I really don't have time for the back and forth games, so if what they're doing is indeed acceptable, I trust you will let me know. Thanks in advance...Atsme📞📧 23:28, 15 April 2017 (UTC) Issue resolved.Atsme📞📧 03:02, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Please explain this edit. – S. Rich (talk) 21:22, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

WP:CANVASS. The user is now indefinitely blocked. This is obvious. Guy (Help!) 07:10, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. But I can decide for myself whether I've been improperly canvassed, and decide for myself if I want to respond. Also, even if the user has been indeff'ed as a sock, I'd like to know what messages s/he has sent me. With these "obvious" factors in mind, I endorse your decision to go off of sysop status. I, too, sometimes face a bit of stress when the editing gets hot and heavy. My Wikibreak was refreshing and I hope you will come back refreshed as well. – S. Rich (talk) 04:23, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Have a good break

Try the påskbord!

...from the tools, and relax, for instance with a Påskbord! We need you and your tools, so I hope it won't be too long before you reclaim them. Doing without them for a while now and then is surely a good idea, though. I've done it (I mean, even apart from the time I let Bishzilla use them), and it was wonderful, except for not being able to look at deleted pages. Inquisitiveness is a big part of my character, it seems. Bishonen | talk 17:57, 16 April 2017 (UTC).

This is about this. Oh! Yes. I hope you are able to refresh and reclaim the bit soon. You wield it so well! Jytdog (talk) 22:02, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Oh, no!! I was not aware. I wish you well and hope you enjoy every minute of your much-deserved rest. As I requested of you in the past, a snippet of your favorite solo performance would be very much appreciated, and held in high regard. Email, please? Atsme📞📧 03:01, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
  • I've needed a break from it before too, and it did me a lot of good. You've contributed a lot here, so there's nothing wrong with putting yourself first for a while and relaxing. I look forward to seeing you back and refreshed when you feel ready. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:13, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Spring Harvest, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Blacklist of Concise Encyclopedia of Economics

Your edits to History of macroeconomic thought removed all references that used links to the online version of the Concise Encyclopedia of Economics. Apparently, you removed citations because you perceived them to be a part of link abuse (User:JzG/EL abuse/Econlib). I don't know the specifics about spammers linking to the CEE, but I added the citations you removed. I am not a spammer. The CEE is one of the many sources I used as the primary editor on this Good Article. The CEE is a reliable source regardless of the ideology of the group that hosts it online. Your edit [3] removed articles by Clinton-appointee Alan S. Blinder, Nobel-winning Democrat Thomas J. Sargent, Republican Keynesian Greg Mankiw, and several other respected economists from across the ideological spectrum.

A second edit you made removed ELs to EconTalk podcasts hosted on EconLib. These included in-depth interviews with some of the most influential economists including Milton Friedman and Chris Sims. A rather adversarial editor even called the EL section one of the best features of the article Talk:History_of_macroeconomic_thought/Archive_1#DSGE, but you felt you could do some "pruning" based on the host of the material.

I haven't seen much evidence that there was a wide-spread spamming problem that warranted blocking EconLib, but, even if there were, there is no excuse for retrospectively removing all links to any material in the EconLib domain. Especially links used in non-spam citations in a GA. You haven't just blocked spammers and removed spam; you have purged all usage of material based on the ideology of the host site. I am decidedly not Libertarian, and I dislike almost everything the Koch brothers fund. But, if they want to spend money on an encyclopedia with articles by Sargent, James Tobin, Christina Romer, etc., I'll take it.

Please remove your blacklist of Econlib, or at least restore the non-spam usage of materials on the site.--Bkwillwm (talk) 18:14, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Thomas J. MacMaster

Hi! I notice that Thomas J. MacMaster was deleted as being an unlikely search term. I found that it was used in the credits sequence of the Canadian documentary about A Gay Girl In Damascus, so I think if a source if found for the full name it should be restored WhisperToMe (talk) 19:12, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Email

JzG, I wish to email you because I need to warn you of a new possible threat of spam to the articles you and I previously worked on. If I discuss it openly, there might be covert attempts to cause disruption and WP:SPAM. Can I email you? Let me know.--Taeyebar 22:01, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

JzG has been on a wikibreak since 16 April 2017. The fact that "Email this user" is shown in the sidebar on this page is sufficient reason to think that sending an email would be fine, although there might not be a reply if the recipient isn't available. You can also contact anyone active at WT:WikiProject Spam. Johnuniq (talk) 00:51, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks John. But this is a more special case. Spam does not only mean spam links. There is also the danger of unsourced advertising, which by my help, he managed to catch. I will try the email feature.--Taeyebar 00:03, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Lyndsey Turner

Hey JzG

I am currently trying to improve Wikipedia's coverage of British theater makers and noticed you have a page held off for Lyndsey Turner. There isn't much online about her as she seems to avoid doing press interviews and so on but she is certainly a formidable force in theatre and should be represented on the site. Could I perhaps persuade you to allow me to create a page for her?
