It's there now. Naturally, those are important issues that are rightly placed here. For discussion the talk page is the place but if you are able to source some facts or research then in the article is fine. Tesco

They do indeed rent out DVDs. It's another rebranded exercise (like they do with Tesco mobile phones, which is O2) - in this case it's LoveFilm rebranded as Tesco DVD Rental. I've added a ref to the article. --Oscarthecat 22:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Tesco, Southport

Couldn't believe it when I saw that picture of the Tesco in Southport! Was on a vacation in Liverpool in March and we visited Southport several times, I swear I saw that Tesco everytime we drove into Southport. [Cognate with early modern Dutch, Dutch regional (West Flemish) nesch, nisch soft (of eggs), damp, sodden, foolish (16th cent.), Gothic hnasqus soft, tender. A connection with Old High German nascon and its cognates in sense ‘to eat dainty food or delicacies’ (see NOSH v.) has been suggested, but seems unlikely.

I agree that my observations of this usage (by my mother and by friends in Manchester and Yorkshire) are 'original research' but they are nonetheless true and form part of their ordinary modern-day language. I have restablished the headings style as per the example in WP:MOSDP#Longer lists and repeated the small reorganisation e.g. air taxi to transport which seems appropriate and also Taxi (advertising agency) to a more prominent position (I have recently moved this from TAXI so it need to be found easily). I have left the red links as you suggest. I have also removed some exisiting piping.
My apologies for one explanation, piping links is okay when titles of things are being italicized. I should have clarified it before, and will take care of fixing it. The piping section of the MoS lists such exceptions. As for the section headers, the section mentions that for excessively long list, section 2 headers are appropriate; the list of articles at Taxi seems to be verging on that length, but the way you have put it looks nice now, so it should be good. Taxicabs in Mexico City

Hello TerriersFan,

I would like to contribute to this article section, however I don't know where to start and neither hace the time to do it. Taxicabs in Mexico City is currently a very complex subject. It involves a whole load of political and social issues, ranging from the cost of a Taxicab service licence to the corruption of the authorities and tolerance of 'pirata' taxis. Most information is very hard to source, itself beeing common knowledge among citizens of Mexico City, but commonly unavailable on the media. There are some points that must be covered to make this a moderately good section.

-History of taxicabs (taxicabs in mexico have changed a lot troughout the years and continue to change). -The 'Pirata' taxis -Safety condiderations when boarding a Mexican taxicab. (very important, not every taxicab is safe) -Mexican taxicab fares -The aesthetics of the Mexican taxicab.

On August 18 you deleted a post I made about the tolerance of Mexico City police and the unions who provide legal shields for 'pirata' taxis. You deemed the information as POV and unsourced. Unfortunately it is not a POV, it is a fact that everybody is able to confirm asking almost every person in the city and almost every cabdriver. This information is hard to source, however if you can speak spanish you can check here:

Also, I added an image of a taxicab in Mexico City, at first sight it might appear a joke. However, modifications to taxicabs are commonplace. In fact, most taxis on the city have some form of aesthetic enhancement.

I am glad that the article whose split you carried out (and I proposed), is getting better every day. Thanks for your continued effort on this article which I believe is relevant for the community.

Well, it was closed as No Consensus To Delete. There were only three commentors, besides the nominator. Image copyright problem with Image:TaxiCab.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:TaxiCab.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

Image:TaxiCab.jpg was taken from the Russian Wikipedia where it is Изображение:TaxiCab.jpg so the copyright status will be on that page. Also Image:USACab.JPG comes from another Wikipedia with the name Εικόνα:DSCN1386.JPG TerriersFan 22:33, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
First, on general copyrights: {{wikipedia-screenshot}} can only be used if you take screenshot of some Wikipedia page. It can only be used of images of Wikipedia website. It cannot be used on photos of objects. If you copy and image from somewhere, you need to maintain the same copyright status, identify author, and provide link to source so that your claims could be verified.
Second, on USACab: if you go on description page on EL Wikipedia, you will see that it was copied from EN Wikipedia, Image:DSCN1386.JPG. Therefore, I added speedy deletion template to USACab as it is exact duplicate.
Third, on TaxiCab: if you go to Russian description page, you will see that it does not have a copyright tag either. It has a long description that I cannot read or understand. Either case, it should be extremely easy to get a free & clean copy as taxi cabs should be abundant in UK and you (as far I understand) live there. YellowDot 01:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

In the same site, the directions page clearly refers to the title as above. If you do a Google on "Old Trafford Cricket Ground", it produces several finds. Palmer Bus Co.

Hello, and thanks for your note. I deleted this because from the information available, it is a school bus company, of which there are many in Minnesota. The article from which I deleted it does not deal with specialized transportation such as school buses. As I understand Wikipedia policy external links should be few in number, and while I am do not doubt that Palmer is an important company in its field it did not seem particularly relevant or notable to the article's subject. Please study the template which says "If this page does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice". Once I fixed it I was entitled to remove it. Women's Eights Head of the River Race

I notice you nominated this article for deletion - your concern was that it was a non-notable university race.

The WEHoRR is not a University race at all - although many universities do take part. It's actually a national event - and probably the most important head race for women in the UK. It is the women's equivalent to the Head of the River Race. Nearly 300 entries were received in 2006 from clubs all over the UK, and many others from European clubs.

As such, I've removed the "prod" template - it most definitely is notable, however the page was only created a couple of days ago, and is in a very fledgling state. The page now also falls within the almost equally fledgling rowing WikiProject, so hopefully it'll receive some attention soon. Richard B 01:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Sorry about the previous vandalism from 216.106.185.169 for E-Mail spoofing. We understand this is a serious issue. If you can (I am not sure how it works exactly) please disable 216.106.185.169 from editing wikipedia. This is something one of our employees seems to have done, as this is a place of business we do not need people editing wikipedia at all. Due to the nature of our work we cant just block it as non-filtered internet access is required for employees to do their jobs. So if its at all possible please let us keep viewing wikipedia open but block us from editing (if you can.) There is no policy in that two attemts has now failed twice to establish one (a third attempt is underway!). However, what I was quoting was consensus from very many AfDs. Elementary schools do get deleted from time to time but no high school ever has been; they are considered to be significant in the community. The practice that I would recommend when you see one of these empty articles (which appear quite often), and if you don't fancy stubbing it, is to redirect to the school board article (if there is one) or else put a one liner in the locality article and redirect there. It is a question of law not policy; see Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Whilst this Act does not specifically mention images the rules encompass them. Whether this particular image needs a release is a grey area and a matter of interpretation. However, we should play safe and not take the slightest risk of putting the Project at risk for sake of an image. There is, though, a further consideration - these days many parents are (rightly or wrongly) becoming more protective of their children. Posting recognisable images on the Internet, without suitable releases, is not socially responsible. As for reinstating the image unilaterally, that would be a bad move. merged taxi articles

Hi Terriers Fan - I agree with your assessment that the NYC taxicab article shared a lot of overlap with the US taxicab article. However, the New York City taxi is something of an icon in its own right. Taxis in Singapore and Hong Kong have specific articles about them. Given the high degree of regulation and uniqueness of NYC taxis, and their status in NYC's transportation mix, it makes sense that NYC taxis have a specific article covering them, too. Also, after merging the NYC taxi article into the US article the result is too lengthy and cumbersome and begs for breaking down the article in sub-articles again.

The best way to resolve the problem of overlap is to edit the content of the articles. The US article should discuss generalized, national issues, while the NYC taxi article should cover issues specific to NYC (of which there are many).

For these reasons I'd kindly ask you to undo the merge and address your legitimate concerns by editing the texts of the two articles. (I have just spent many hours overhauling the Transportation in New York City article in much the same way; yes, it takes time, but the final result is better quality.)

Saint Monica's Church, Barre

Just to let you know - I moved the article to Saint Monica's Church (Barre, Vermont) because article titles should reflect the actual name, with disambiguation in parentheses (as with Montgomery High School (Blackpool), above). I don't really see how parentheses are more "ugly" than a comma. I realize there's variation in current titling for churches in this regard (see Category:Roman Catholic cathedrals of the United States for examples), but Barre isn't a well-known location, and the inclusion of Vermont in the title helps readers grasp the region more quickly. Category:Roman Catholic churches in Iowa, for instance, runs more uniformly toward parentheses. I wasn't trying to step on toes, just reaching for titling uniformity; IMO, St. Monica's Church, Santa Monica tends toward confusion as to whether you're indicating a location or a transliteration. On the Picasso page they use an exemption for pre-1922 art however the Dali image uses a 'fair use' licence which I have just tracked down. After I have added the new licence it would be helpful to add a short analysis of the painting since the fair use applies to an article that includes a 'critical commentary'. HTH. You're probably correct. That book is the same source for the Stonewall Masonic Lodge article. The "first recorded health program" paragraph in roberson HS is verbatim from the book that Blueboar has posted in the AfD (p. 31). Specialist School/College status

Just a quick one in reference to St Thomas More High School for Boys AfD, being a specialist college doesn't actually mean you're any good at that subject - it's purely a money game. A school decides they're going to be 'specialist' in some subject or other, and then has to raise £150K of sponsorship from local business etc. If they achieve that, the money is matched by the Government for 3 years (£450K!) OK, after 3 years the Govt can turn round and say 'actually, your results in Maths (or whatever) are rubbish, we're taking the status off you', but what school would turn down the cash in the meantime? As an example, my wife used to work at a school which was a specialist Performing Arts college. Don't give up on that! It would be such a boon to the community if we could solve this. I'm optimistic that somebody will hit on something acceptable enough to both sides at some point. Would you be interested in allowing all schools through an article on each school district, with subsections for the individual schools? For many US schools that would be a way forward provided really notable schools (and there are some :-)) retained their own articles. It wouldn't work for UK schools because Local Education Authorities, the UK equivalent have several times more schools and the articles wouls be too unweildy. List the IP at WP:AIV. They usually require 3 prior warnings. However, IIRC the IP is using the same text as previous IP vandals so if you link in with the earlier IPs they will probably block on the next occurrence but, if you don't fancy that, then put on the warning template. I saw you Americanized the dates on the Virginia Tech massacre. Actually, if you wikilink them they will change formatting based on a reader's prefs. The way forward is to keep a tally and if he removes similar material 3 times in any 24 hours place a warning as I did and then for a fourth event take him to WP:AN3. I would normally offer to do this but I'm going to be offline from now for the next 18 hours (sadly, real life has intervened :-)). A couple of points, don't forget to cite the diff for my warning to him here and quote the diffs (these can be found at the top of the pages that you quote} for the reversions rather than the pages themselves. Hi, student societies, as an alternative, have the facility to be merged into the university or student union articles. There is no claim of applicable secondary source of bio information; and hosting a radio show certainly doesn't go anywhere near the notability criterion and that's the only claim in the article besides a very brief statement of birth and education.

I think you're confusing me with some sort of rabid deletist.  :-) Take a look at my contributions-- if you discount the obvious nonsense, vandals and spam, my CSD either lead to quick deletion or spur/scare the author into making uninformative two-liners into real proto-articles. As I state above, the speedy procedure is for clear cases only since there is no opportunity for consensus. In both these cases I think that a Prod would have been a better option. My view is that 'Welsh TV and Radio personality' is sufficient assertion of notability to make a speedy inappropriate (the notability bar is much lower to avoid a speedy than to survive an AfD). Having said that, I agree that the article lacks the necessary secondary sources (my knowledge of Welsh is simply not up to the task of assessing the many Ghits) and notability is marginal which is why I have listed it on AfD and it may well get deleted but that is a different issue. Hi there. I'm curious as to why you removed the deletion request from Ruwantha Cooray. Even with the new (old) information, it clearly does not pass the notability criteria for athletes. As there are no specific criteria for tennis players (it's on WP:TENNIS's list), that's the best criteria we have here. The fact that most of the substantial contributions to the article have come from User:Ruwantha2006 also points to WP:AUTO. The speedy delete procedure is deliberately tightly defined since it allows deletion without consensus, and is only for the clearest cases. To avoid speedy deletion the bar is deliberately set much lower than for an AfD. In my view, the article asserts enough notability for the speedy procedure not to be applicable - I know, for example, that some editors consider an ATP ranking enough for notability - even if it fails WP:BIO. No problem! Let me explain. It is possible to create a disambiguation page by editing the redirect page that you created. However, it would have caused a row - there were dozens of incoming links for the soap opera so converting the The Edge of Night to a disambiguation page would have meant that dozens of links meant for the soap opera would have gone to the DMB page and would have needed to be reset. I do agree that the method I have chosen gives your page a lower billing but it will save a lot of folks a lot of work and protect you from aggro - my prime purpose :-) HTH. I'm just wondering why you said that you would take out the lyrics. They are actually the words to a poem by Tolkien as listed in the article, so therefore, they should be allowed. Missing White Woman Syndrome

As much as I'd love to live in a realm full of teddy bears and gumdrop ponies as you apparently do, I use Wikipedia to report the cold, dark facts of planet earth.

First off, the majority of the discussion on “Missing White Woman Syndrome” in the McCann article points in favor of leaving MWWS as it is. I don’t know where you’re getting your statistics.

Like a doctor, a writer for an encyclopedia cannot let his personal feelings get in the way of his work, or else there will be room for mistakes. This is okay, you are still learning.

I know it’s difficult to see the coverage of McCann’s abduction simply as a result of media capitalism and “Euro(white)-centrism.” Perhaps we can leave MWWS in the article, but note that it is just speculation (we’ll need a notable source that says this, of course.) -MM 5/16/07
