Peer Review for the 84 Bus Route

Hey guys, Great page so far! Things look good as a whole, but there are a few kinks that need to be worked out.

1. Include a visual map of the route. Someone who isn't native to Vancouver isn't going to know where the bus goes after reading your list of streets. In fact, the first thing I'd do after reading your article would be to pull up Google maps to view the route.

2. First Paragraph: The route is in service seven days a week.

3. On the list of stops you have in the box on the left, make sure to add the appropriate suffix (e.g. St., Blvd,) after the street name. It is confusing to read Ontario as a stand alone name.

4. The Eastbound stop at Ash Street is Moberly Road. Make this change and include it as "Ash St/Moberly Rd"

5. There are only two stations, not 19. There are 19 stops, but a "Station" is where the bus resides and is "stationary". Use the same terminology that Translink or CMBC does.

6. History: Show the numbers of ridership from UBC during peak hours to properly present the rider congestion problem. Someone who hasn't stood in the busloop in the pouring rain for half an hour during rush hour will not understand how big of an issue the congestion at UBC is.

Hey guys.

So I can see that the way you have organized the page is very similar to how the 99 B-line page is organized, which is a great starting point. There were a few things I noticed that might help you improve your page:

1.) even though the link "express' in the first sentence directs you to a page for buses, I would still through the word bus in there somewhere.

2.) Second sentence I would say "at UBC" rather than "in UBC". Also could provide the link to the UBC wiki page.

3.) I agree with Dominique that the sentence will "serves Vancouver" needs work. It's not really necessary to add that last part.

4.) I noticed that on the B-line site they mention that the buses are articulated to allow more passengers. I know that the 84 is not, so you could talk about that and maybe the reasons why it's not. Can the route not accommodate bigger buses? Do they not have enough? Or is there not enough passenger traffic? That kind of thing.

5.) the first sentence of the second paragraph should read "the route is IN service...", rather than "the route is AT service.."

6.) I don't know how much information is out there and I know the route is much newer than many, but you might be able to expand on the history section.

7.) For the "4 stops and transfers section" you could add much more detail about what is located around each of the individual stops. See the 99 B-line site for how much detail they provide.

Overall I think the page just needs more information added to it, but I do think you have done a great job of incorporating features that are included on other wiki pages.

84 Express, Biol 345: wiki page review (Dominique)

Hello, here are my suggestions, cheers!

In the first paragraph: "Going west, the route goes along Great Northern Way, 2nd Avenue…and serves Vancouver. The end part of this statement is awkward/confusing since all these places are in Vancouver and then you say "and serves Vancouver."
Provide more information about the specific stops such as what buses they connect to.
Provide more detail and references for the history section, especially the last 2 sentences.
Other possible pictures could include the UBC Bus Loop and/or VCC Clark Station.

Biol 345: wiki page review

I guys,

First off I would like to say that making a page for the 84 bus is a great choice and it really deserves a page of its own. However, I think there a few things that you could possibly add to enhance your page:

1. First and foremost, it would be great to see more pictures on your page. ie. more of the bus, the route etc.

1. There in the image on the right – indicating the bus stops of the 84 visually. The image also mentions the Expo Line and Canada Line. It can be misleading into how exactly the two skytrain lines are connected to the 84 bus line – especially for people not familiar to Vancouver transit. If you could indicate the connections between the stops and trains ( possibly using arrows or lines) it would be easier to follow and increase clarity.

2.. Some of the intersecting stops on the 84 route did not have further details besides naming the stops itself. It would be interesting to read about what is nearby each stop- whether it be another bus route, stores, shops, schools etc.

3. Make sure to reference this sentence: "With UBC as its western terminus, the 84 was implemented to relieve pressure from the 99 B-Line at Commercial-Broadway Station by diverting some of its student traffic. (reference)"

4. in the “84 stops and transfer points” section of the page – it is was hard to differentiate between which stops were in east vancouver vs. west vancouver and between the actual stops themselves. This was because all of them were bolded and made it difficult for the reader to figure it out on first glance. I would suggest keep the west van and east van markers bolded but italicize the actual stops.

5. it would be good to see information about the compass card or fares - specifically about the 84 bus and whether it passes through different boundaries of fare zones. It would be great if you could create redirects to external links about the boundary zones or other wiki pages about this issue. It would better to link them using wiki-unique coding such as: "

" - it has the "wiki formatting" style

6. You mentioned how the 84 bus line was created to relieve the pressure of commuter traffic on the 99 line. It would be great to see (stats) how the traffic on the 99 line has decreased or how the 84 has helped. It would also be good to see how busy the 84 bus line is in comparison to other transit bus routes.

7.It would be good to add what happens to the route and bus in the event of extreme weather- ex. snow

There are a few resources I think you can add to help make the page more useful for viewers:

a) a visual map of the 84 bus line route would be extremely helpful for visitors – ex. link to a map

b) a resource/map showing the transit routes of all of Vancouver, demonstrating how the 84 bus connects to other routes.

I hope you take these thoughts into consideration!

Good page guys but a few improvements will make this page better:

Instead of UBC say University of British Columbia

Include statistics within the article i.e. how many people use the route per day etc.

As demand and ridership for the 84 increased. Numbers? How much did demand increase by?

All of your references are from the Translink website? You need to do a little bit more digging and come up with some alternative sources. Are there any bad things about the 84? Things about it that could be improved? Is congestion a problem for the 84? Poor transport links to UBC and how the 84 helps/does not help that?

You need to expand on the history of the 84 using sources other than Translink itself. Do some digging and don't just use the first few webpages that come up after a google search.

With these improvements this page will make a great addition to Wikipedia!

The advice above is excellent - you should follow all of it in revising your page.

Some other points: Explain what UBC and VCC are - consider readers who aren't students and don't live in Vancouver. Give a general description of the neighbourhoods served in the introductory paragraph - colleges and schools, and the major 4th-avenue shopping area, youth hostel and beach area. At the UBC end riders can connect to those little local-neighbourhood buses. Explain what Skytrain is. Create links back from relevant Wikipedia pages about sites served by this bus. A real route map would be great - could you draw the route on top of a screenshot from here: http://www.maps-for-free.com/?
