Ref changes

I've been using the Wikipedia template filler to modify/create cite journal refs. This reads from PubMed which is probably why your author list was shortened. It's standalone - currently, so people or the DOI-Bot will touch the article refs - so a longer author list shouldn't be touched. If the omitted author has a Wikipedia entry, and the article doesn't otherwise link, you could add a link in the ref. From my layman's/programmer viewpoint populating the PMID, PMC, DOI and article URL links where available are important . —Preceding unsigned comment added by RDBrown (talk • contribs)

  2. I was surprised to not find mention of the FDA press release and new rules at DS-talk. That talk page has been active the last year, with no mention of what sounds like significant improvement. And where did I learn about this? The url is in an edit summary by an anon at Melatonin; I just picked up the ball and ran with it. I've considered registering and think it's unfortunate that their is a certain stigma with anon users but I enjoy the quasi anonymous state that goes with just an IP. We're in the process of finding a new content writer and providing well researched, unique content for sleep sections discussed. Food Supplement Merging

Well, it looks like Food fortification, Food supplements, and Nutrification could be put into Dietary supplement as subsections or incorporated into the article. I'm wary of getting rid of Food additive, Food processing, Nutraceutical, and Bodybuilding supplement because they seem like different ideas (and bodybuilding supplement is already pretty well cited). I've been trying to read up on how-to merge articles. Too complicated. I can't even figure out if the help of an admin is needed, or not. So I'm asking for help to either do it -- or help me do it.

Photoperiodism, Long day plant, Short day plant and Day neutral plant have been proposed merged for well over a year! All discussion is at Photoperiodism.

It is quite obvious that the three day-plant stubs should be merged with one another. Most of the info in them would fit quite nicely into a table. They all have blank Talk pages. Merging them should be "easy" and not controversial except for agreeing on a title suggestion. (Long, short and neutral day plants, maybe?)

There's some question about whether those three should all be merged into Photoperiodism. The idea of dividing Photoperiodism in two, Photoperiodism (botany) and Photoperiodism (zoology), has some support. (I'm getting cold feet on that one, because of the few organisms which would fit in either both or neither. But if all the articles are merged into one, some zoologist(s) should get active and not let the botanists take over the topic altogether!)

In any case, it is silly that articles carry merge templates for over a year. Let's get something done about this, thanks. - Hordaland (talk) 11:07, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Nope, no admin needed. You need one to complete a merge if any of the pages are protected, but otherwise you just move in the content you want, delete that which is redundant or no longer relevant, leave a redirect at whatever titles no longer have articles, and state what has been done in all edit summaries and on whichever talkpage had the discussion (and the final merge target, if different). Retargeting the pages that redirect to the new redirects is helpful. I will go merge those three to Photoperiodism now if you will clean up after me (I am not a botanist; all content will of course still be available under the history tab). Just check the (cont.) link on my signature to watch. I will leave the question of splitting the article by kingdom to those who know the topic. - Eldereft (cont.) 12:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Sure :-) many animals flower in the springtime! Think of all those with drab white feathers and fur in the winter who spring into bloom in the spring. --Because of the shorter nights, of course. Even people bloom as winter depression recedes.
This is the 2nd time in my wiki-career that I've used the {help me} approach to a problem, and I'm just as impressed this time as last by the quick, knowledgable and helpful response! Thank you!

Thanks for your input and your kind reply on my talkpage. I'm not a pulmonologist, but I've asked Axl (talk · contribs) to have a look as well; he's more into respiratory disease (as evidenced by his hard work on lung cancer).
The most straightforward test to exclude OHS would be a venous bicarbonate level, as suggested by Mokhlesi 2007. If that's <27 then OHS is fairly unlikely. But I don't give medical advice, I just point out what I've read :-). JFW | T@lk 19:46, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes the scary thing is they say that ADHD is the best researched condition in pediatric psychiatry. All this well most trials are less then 4 months and only one is of two years. It more reflects how miserable the evidence base is for psychiatry rather then how good the evidence is for ADHD. --Doc James (talk) 15:23, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I've been walked through this before, but still don't dare do it: changing the name of an article.

William C. Dement is a very well-known researcher in his field, and his name always appears thus (except by convention in some journals as Dement WC.) The name of his article was recently changed to William Charles Dement. I asked about this on the article's talk page, and got support for my position. I asked the user who'd changed the title to change it back, here, but got no response at all.

Would someone please change the article's name back to the version Dr. Dement himself always uses? Thank you. - Hordaland (talk) 12:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I assume that is what you are referring to when you say "someone says..." Regarding your fix of the vandalism. You did fine (thank you!). However, it appears to me that you removed the material by laboriously checking contributions and then searching for the text in the current version and deleting it. There are cases of old vandalism that require such methods because intervening edits have made a revert impossible. In this case, though, you could have simply done a technical revert by simply clicking on the page version in the history before 58.165.113.152 edited the page, then clicked "edit this page" and then saved. The only thing you would have had to do manually is your removal of whitespaces, which appears to be from an earlier edit than the main vandalsim you fixed. See Help:Reverting#How to revert. Thank you for your work on wikipedia, and I appreciated your comment. I have replied on that page, but in short, I think the first definition I posted from International Dictionary of Medicine and Biology could definitely be consistent with what you are suggesting, that a medical procedure is "An activity directed at or performed on an individual with the object of improving health, treating disease or injury, or making a diagnosis." In that definition, the person doing the "performing" is not specified; therefore, it could be the patient, or it could be the doctor, etc. What do you think? Can I ask why you added original research or misrepresented the refs to the major depression article? The refs are on prescribed users. The neutral term long term use covers both prescribed and drug misusers. Thank you for your message. I wasn't talking about the tweaks to the grammar. I was referring to reverting edits back to a similar version that I had just reverted a user. You changed it to say "when abused" and "benzodiazepine abuse". The refs are talking about prescribed users who long term use caused major depression and also as part of the protracted withdrawal syndrome. Though logic would tell you that chronic drug misusers would also get major depression, so I used the neutral term "long term use" which covers both long term/regular use or misuse.. The refs weren't on drug abusers. That was my problem with the changes.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 20:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Mwalla is a repetative vandal who constantly gets in fights on parxoetine page and has had the page locked at least twice, alters comments people make to make them say the opposite of what they said (which was why they got blocked today), uses sockpuppets and is currently blocked for 1 week. He has a habit of annoying people by following their edits if they revert their vandalism and changing their edits to "get back at them". This was why I reverted mwalla. There is a lot more to mwalla and their sockpuppets but won't fill your talk page up. Now it seems people "assumed their edits were "good faith" on the surface without realising the background and are now reverting my edits back to their edits without reading the refs and going by a hunch that I am the one in the wrong, which is what earlypsychosis editor did and now you then sided with earlypsychosis and assumed he was right. It is pretty frustrating but understand that it is just a mixup. It isn;t just me there are at least 4 editors who have been harrassed by mwalla in various ways. Rhythms

Adding new categories / sub categories? This I've never done. There is a Category:Rhythm which includes musical rhythms. I think its name should be changed to Category:Rhythm (music).

The article Ultradian was previously in Category:Rhythm, all alone of the biological rhythms. I think it should be in a new Category Rhythm (biology) along with Circadian rhythm, Infradian rhythm, Menstrual cycle and others, existing and future; Chronobiology is a fast-moving field.

Is that a good idea? Whether both the music and biology versions should be subcategories of a main Category:Rhythm, I don't know. Can someone tell me how it is done, or show me a page with very clear instructions? Thank you, Hordaland (talk) 17:10, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I feel sorry for the poor guy. He's obviously feeling very stressed and upset now (he's stating as much on xeno's talk-page) and he's not thinking clearly. What else explains the deletion of his/her own userpage and longstanding comments on that page after I submitted a linked statement to ArbCom? Did Scuro think that ArbCom wouldn't check the diffs? I'm banned from his Talk page (I respect requests like that), so I can't warn him that if he goes after me, he's probably dead meat. That warning wouldn't be self-interested, I had two-thirds of the community going after me a few weeks and days ago, I've been gone after by experts, and I really DGAF, except for regretting the disruption, I'd rather see editors editing articles than fighting each other. I'd rather have Scuro around as a critic to help keep the article from spinning out in some different direction, but there is a limit.
