Masako Katsura

Hi Freetrashbox. You cannot imagine the amount of effort I put into finding her date of death. I even know the exact date, but it was gotten from a relative, so could not be used because it was original research. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me the page number from the book, the original Japanese text providing the date, anything else it says about her death, and the translation. Thanks much in advance.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:53, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fuhghettaboutit, I found that year from Byrne's advanced technique in pool and billiards(in Japanese), p.210. But only year, not date, it was written in footnote, perhaps by the translator or the publisher. "註:桂マサ子は1995年にその生涯を閉じている (Masako Katsura closes the life in 1995)." --Freetrashbox (talk) 14:08, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much. Wonderful to have this after all the problems it caused on the featured article nominations. I used the English language version in sourcing the article (I own it) and it doesn't say, so I know it was added by the Japanese translator/editor. Thanks again.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:14, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics

Hello @Freetrashbox:,

Upon a closer look at A General Survey of the Somaliland Protectorate (1944-150), the source does not state that the Musa Arreh lives in Wadamago, with p.168 noting: [...] the north-east area covered by Habr Yunis represents a comparatively small part of the tribe living in an area living amongst Habr Toljaala and some Dolbahanta.

Page 168 also states:

Musa Arreh: part of the Jibil [sic] Adan graze around Surud and Sur near Erigavo. Most of the Musa Arreh graze from Arori to Tuyo, Haro Hagari, El Dader, Balleh Wein and Ain.

This supports my point, which is that the Musa Arreh do not reside in Wadamago. As for Dayaha, I'm working on that as well. Dabaqabad (talk) 17:32, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your explanation above would be easy for the reader to understand and there will be no problem. (What I see as the problem is that you have edited your edit as home wells = inhabiting in this context while you have deleted mine as Those clans are not mentioned as the inhabitants of the town but rather use its well. )
However, your explanation is insufficient to prove that Musa Arreh does not live in Wadamago. The map on the right shows the location of Wadamago in relation to the grazing area of Musa Arreh described in the book. Wadamago is located almost in the center of Musa Arreh, very close to Balleh Wein. Considering the wide range of activities of nomads in those days, it is reasonable to assume that Musa Arreh has also resided in Wadamago.--Freetrashbox (talk) 23:52, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Notice

The article SSC Movement has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article does not meet notability requirement, as it lacks significant detailed coverage in reliable sources. Searching for "The Unity and Salvation Authority of SSC" yields exactly five results, including the Wikipedia entry. "SSC movement" + "Somalia" has two results on Scholar. And although some results do show up on Google Books for "SSC movement" + "Somalia" [2] there is no significant coverage that addresses the topic directly and in detail per SIGCOV. Additionally, the article is pushing original research with little to no backing within reliable sources, e.g. the map included in the infobox. Lastly, and this may be out-with the scope of the AFD, the inclusion of the OR map follows a pattern observed repeatedly in behaviour of long-term vandal Middayexpress where an OR map is uploaded or edited on Commons using a throwaway account [3], and then later inserted into a Wikipedia article using a different account to evade scrutiny [4], this was discussed at length here: User:TomStar81/Horn_of_Africa_disruption. --Kzl55 (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Kzl55 (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of SSC Movement for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article SSC Movement is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SSC Movement until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

Hello Freetrashbox, and I hope you're doing well 🙂 While this is a reusable template I have used to contact you, it's not an automated process, and I really think you should join WikiProject Somaliland if you haven't already. Judging by the fact I see I gave you a barnstar before I even really knew what WikiProjects were, I think your interest and knowledge about Somaliland and its related topics would really help out the project if you joined. Merger of information in Las Anod and 2023 Las Anod conflict

I've put some work into 2023 Las Anod conflict. It could be better for us to move information from Las Anod - mainly the blow-by-blow war info (hospitals, daily skirmishes, casualty counts etc).

Ideally we keep a summary of all info as a section in the Las Anod article. That section can have the 2023 conflict as a Main article.

How does this proposal sound to you?

We could get 2023 Las Anod conflict in Wikinews or maybe the main page :)

I have only written about events that I think are particularly important to the history of Las Anod, but if reciprocal links would make it easier to understand each article, I welcome such edits.Freetrashbox (talk) 23:34, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Link you used

Hi User:Freetrashbox You used this link: 5 and typed Saad Musa, but the link doesn't state that they inhabit Lughaya district.

This is what it states:

"The Habar Awal is one of several subclans of the Isaaq. Members of the Habar Awal make up a majority of the population in the northern and western parts of the Woqooyi Galbeed region of Somaliland. This includes towns such as Hargeisa, Berbera, Gabiley, Wajaale, Arabsiyo, and Kalabaydh. There are also many members of Habar Awal living in the northern parts of the Togdheer region, especially in and near the towns Sheikh and Burao."

Why did you choose this source to add the Saad Muse when the source doesn't state it in anyway?

MustafaO (talk) 00:55, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, it's my mistake. I fixed it. Thank you! Freetrashbox (talk) 01:28, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't fix it, you used this: 6 which is Wikipedia. It states so in the article. It's a recycled article of the same Isaaq page on Wikipedia. It cannot be used as a source for itself. Could you remove that section completely? That would be fair
MustafaO (talk) 01:33, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Freetrashbox
I noticed you removed it. We already have a discussion on the Awdal page. Let that be sorted out. I want to take it to arbitration to put it to rest soon.
MustafaO (talk) 01:36, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Freetrashbox
You now used a source where the author himself states that there is not much clear information regarding the western tribes (Esa, Gadabursi and Habr Awal). One user already spoke about that specific source on the Awdal talk page: "On page 176 7, the authors explicitly state the limitation of their own study is the lack of information they have on the western Somaliland clans. They rely heavily on Cox whose work was published in 1894, a 130 year old study next week, not on actual settlements but on nomadic clan movements." “Comparatively little is known by the writer of the western corner of the Protectorate (Esa, Gadabuursi and Habar Awal)”. 8
MustafaO (talk) 04:22, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added the information that the author does not know much about the area. Freetrashbox (talk) 04:57, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
