Happy New Year, Eagleash!

Team nicknames

Personally, I think team nicknames should be avoided wherever possible in the body of an article - partly because we are an encyclopedia, and partly because not every reader will be familiar with the nicknames. "John Smith began his career with Arsenal and made his debut for the Gunners on 2 January 2017" could easily cause confusion! GiantSnowman 14:58, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

spider bite vandalism

Hi, thanks for spotting this. I have ascertained the source of the problem. I used a shared computer to make the edit and discovered that some droll person had been playing with the firefox word replace function, thus automatically changing words on the page prior to submission. Very difficult to spot. I will check for this sort of thing when using a strange computer terminal in future. Thanks again.Edaham (talk) 06:56, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Difficulty in adding a Wikipedia Commons image to my article

Hi I have been trying to upload a Wikipedia Commons photo of Newgate prison onto my article ( Lancelot Cooper) which you are editing but I do not understand the instructions although i have attempted to do this several times. There is one jpg file with the heading Newgate West View by George Shepherd. I wonder if you could kindly help. Thanks! Alantaylor17 (talk) 13:21, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

@Alantaylor17: Hello, I have added an image I found on commons...I think its the right one. I have put it close to the mention of Newgate. If you want to move it, copy the whole thing to your preferred location, but don't put it at the top of the page or top left of a section. Eagleash (talk) 13:47, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Great. Thanks a lot! Alantaylor17 (talk) 14:23, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Lancelot Cooper

Hi I note that you have finished editing this article. Is there another layer of review before it can be accepted or rejected? Thanks Alantaylor17 (talk) 09:27, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

@Alantaylor17: Hello, editing is never finished! The page will have to be 'curated' by a reviewer before it is fully 'live'. As indicated in the review notice, this may take some time. Eagleash (talk) 09:50, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry at large

Hi. Don't be alarmed. I have just opened an investigation here: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gallura. I just mention it because one of the articles the suspected sock created has also been substantially edited by you. I am fully aware that you are not involved, but you might like to have a look anyway.Deb (talk) 12:30, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Eagleash. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "Honda CB125 TD Superdream".

In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. TopCipher (talk) 14:20, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Yeah brilliant...it's six months not six weeks. Last edited 14 February. Got it restored. Eagleash (talk) 23:40, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

my article

why do you keep leaving a notability sign on my article, he is clearly a west ham united first team squad member who has multiple appearances ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by D60ks12 (talkcontribs) 18:46, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

@D60ks12: The notability tag was placed by Egghead not me. The player has not yet made a League appearance for the club so technically fails WP:NFOOTY which requires that he has played in a fully professional league (emphasis on 'league'). Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Also as a minor point please do not refer to articles as 'yours' ...see WP:OWN. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 18:54, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Yes he has, emphasis on Europa "League". i clearly state it and cite it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by D60ks12 (talkcontribs) 16:18, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

@D60ks12: The notability tag (again) was placed by @Egghead06: not me. (Pinging Egghead so he can join the discussion). The player has made one appearance in an inter-league competion against a team from the Andorran League. Please read WP:NFOOTY and also this part of the professional leagues page. I believe Egghead is correct in placing the notability template. If you disagree please discuss it further with him and in the meantime do not remove the template until the issue is resolved. As the player fails notability in apparently both his and my opinion, the article may actually be eligible for nomination for deletion. Eagleash (talk) 16:38, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
I don't agree with the notability rules as they exist and am an inclusionist. I would allow more articles on a wider ranger of players. For that reason I've added the tag and not prodded it for deletion even though he has zero games in a pro league. Other editors here are not so lenient so be prepared to have the article deleted.--Egghead06 (talk) 20:52, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, this was an inadvertent edit conflict – how did that happen? Please revert if you think it better. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:02, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: The Surprise, telugu short film

Hello Eagleash. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on The Surprise, telugu short film to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. ~ GB fan 10:18, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

@GB fan: Thanks, no problem. I thought there was something in the CSD about non-notable creative works where none of the artistes were themselves 'notable'. But, on reflection think that may be with regard to music pages. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 10:26, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Category:2000s automobiles

This category is meant to "Automobiles that were produced in the 2000s — from 2000 to 2009." its quite simple, all car articles has been categorised this same way, its very clear how the cat is explained, if you want changes wrtie to wp:automobiles and dont change just one car model article, because all car articles are in same way >Typ932 T·C 04:55, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

Lol you are funny? all is not some, all car articles are categorised that way and its right way. 2000s mean all cars produced between 2000-2009 , its very clear there is no way you can misunderstood it (>Typ932 T·C 07:28, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
Last comment on this, but you are wrong, if cat explanation says "Automobiles that were produced in the 2000s — from 2000 to 2009." there should be no problems to understand it. (>Typ932 T·C 09:53, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

Advice

I hope I'm not bothering you. I need some advice though. I have thought about creating a page on Dinah Liddell from Alice In Wonderland but I don't want to get a warning if I do. I don't even know how to upload images so I've been looking for people to help me. Do you think I should create the page? Ive done research on it for so long and I haven't found a page just for her. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 19:33, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

@Dinah kirkland: No problem. However, I am slightly confused by the name Dinah Liddell? Alice's Adventures in Wonderland#Background gives the names Lorina, Alice and Edith for the three daughters of Henry Liddell. I can't see a reference to a Dinah Liddell in that page. Alice Liddell already has a Wiki page. So, I am wondering who Dinah Liddell may have been and more to the point whether a Wiki page would be justified. Making a page in in good faith is unlikely to get you into 'trouble'. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 19:59, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Well she was the cat that Alice owned and not the Cheshire and I just created a draft for it. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 20:15, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
@Dinah kirkland: Right, I see. Seems a very minor character indeed. I reckon you might have difficulty in establishing notability in the Wikipedia sense. The correct book title is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland which should be italicised. If you intend to continue working on it, have a look at the list of characters on that page (which do have articles) which may help you to develop the page along the same lines. Most importantly you will need sources to demonstrate notability and for verification. Overall, I would say that a redirect is probably the best you can expect in the long run; sorry! Eagleash (talk) 21:09, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
I will sometime and grazie! Dinah Kirkland (talk) 21:11, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Oh and the reason I only called it Alice In Wonderland and not Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was because they have video games called American McGee's Alice and Alice Madness Returns, then there's the 1951 Disney movie Alice In Wonderland. Despite the 19th century book and the old British film having the original name i needed to make it so everyone understood because most only understand the name Alice In Wonderland not Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 13:14, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
@Dinah Kirkland: You will need to have the title correct if the page should make it to mainspace. See Gryphon (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) for example. That page also has the book title italicised...see the mark up there for how to do that. Eagleash (talk) 21:31, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Alright thank you. Me and BlbAtp will work on that sometime. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 21:39, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Wrongful Edits

I made some edits to the Italian profanity page that were correct and someone changed them. When I reverted said edits they just changed them again. I asked why they did it and I didn't get a response. The only reason I am so defensive on this is because I am Italian and know what it means and I get very angry when someone puts down the wrong meaning. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 20:03, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

@Dinah Kirkland: I'm probably not the best person to ask really. I note you made some attempt to contact the other editor which is the correct thing to do. What you should not do is continue back and forth removing each other's edits. This is edit warring and will easily get you blocked, the merits of the edits notwithstanding. I think you need to provide a reliable source for your version, (which should be cited in line per WP:REFB) then the other editor will have to provide evidence for what they wish to add. Personal knowledge (original research) doesn't count for anything on Wikipedia, everything has to be (or should be) verifiable for the reader. I will, however, drop a note at the other editor's page. Eagleash (talk) 20:45, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Alright thank you. I wasn't thinking when I deleted their edits but then I stopped after the first time. I think the best thing to do now is leave it alone and move on for now. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 20:47, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

about Draft:Zebronics

Hey, i saw your comment there. I received a similar email initially asking for contact details. When I refused to share them and asked him what he wanted, he told About this wiki draft which he wants to be accepted into main space. I tried figuring if he is trying to buy favour for his company by indirectly asking in a joke. He denied fortunately. When I had a look at his draft and restored the old decline templates and comments, removed the logo from commons and told him not to contact any editor, he starts abusing by saying that I'm not an Indian. I'd suggest not to reply to such emails at all since his intentions are clearly to get a free wiki page to promote his company. Yashovardhan (talk) 03:54, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

@Yashovardhan Dhanania: Thanks for your message. I have not replied to the eMail. Clearly he has contact details (Wiki eMail or TP access). Eagleash (talk) 04:34, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Did you receive the email through the email this user feature on Wikipedia. In that case, his user account could be found and his access to use the feature removed. I received the email via the contact page on my blog. Yashovardhan (talk) 04:37, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
@Yashovardhan Dhanania: Yes via Wiki eMail. My initial thought was that he might want to ask about AfD or otherwise deleting the page as it was the same day (or the next) that an AfD notice was misplaced at the page. Eagleash (talk) 04:46, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
I think we should start a WP:ANI discussion since the way he replied to me later (when I refused to help) is indicative of the company trying to use Wikipedia for promotion. Not to forget that the page has been deleted 4 times. I've already asked Primefac for help in this. Yashovardhan (talk) 04:53, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
@Yashovardhan Dhanania: Personally, I would not go for an ANI at this stage (just my feeling). If he's been told to stop the behaviour and has done so then ANI might not be appropriate. I note that the draft has been submitted again, and rejected again. It cannot continue to be submitted repetitively without improvement. This is WP:TE and maybe it should go to MfD with a suggestion that it might be salted in view of previous deletions. Eagleash (talk) 22:04, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

Dear Sir/ Madam, With all due respect I want to inform you that I only corrected the heights of the cricket players which had wrongly been depicted before. I have been seeing those for about a year now and wanted to correct them. I am glad that I got the chance today. But it was quite disappointing when I came to know that you reverted them. I have been watching cricket for over 15 years now and have ample amount of knowledge about the game. Wikipedia has become the most sought after knowledge material on the internet now-a-days and everyone looks up to it in order to know about their sports icons. All I did was playing my part in ensuring that the people do not read wrong information on Wikipedia. Thanking you, Regards, User. Partha27596 (talk) 15:03, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Abner Article

Hello, I'm the IP who raised concerns about the Abner page on the help page. I've made this account to try and be of more use. Thank you for your help so far in this matter. I've made a fuller statement on the talk page of the article, but essentially I've now started going through the references to the article, and all seem to be being misused. There are false quotes attributed to them, and none of them mention an author called Henry Abner. Further, I can't find any record of his novels online, with the exception of the self-published 2016 release.

Indeed, I can see no online record of such an author existing apart from wikipedia itself (and it's derivatives and mirrors), and the promotional stuff surrounding the 2016 book.

I'm sorry to bother you like this, but I'm new to wikipedia and could do with a steer on where to take this next. Landscape repton (talk) 13:46, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Edit warring

I merely put my edits back in because the other editor had deleted my contributions, including gallery pictures and referenced material, without consulting me prior to that and has done this again. I edited his comments about the early Silver Dawn because he is factually wrong and his reference did not support his statement. After all Wikipedia is nobody's personal property. I really have the impression that you are partisan if not identical to the other editor and/or do not have enough time to go through this (sorry for your illness). I see your editing on the Erik Stocklin article. User Jameslawrence19 is changing the age back to 28 years old. I've tried warning Jameslawrence19 a week ago or so, and he just won't stop. I'm not sure how to stop this, because there are sources for the correct age, but Jameslawrence19 just ignores them and edits it back to age 28. Paige Matheson (talk) 18:55, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

@Ohmemam: Thanks. I see you've submitted the page. The review process is often backlogged and pages can be reviewed in anything from a few hours to several weeks. So be prepared to be patient. 16:55, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Eagleash, I'm just working on an update for the Johnny Cartwright article and am trying to do the career stats table. i see from holmesdale.net that he made 12 apps (scoring 1 goal) for Palace between 1961 and 1963 but it doesn't break down the stats for those two seasons. I noticed that you have previously cited "King, Ian. Crystal Palace: A Complete Record 1905–2011. The Derby Books Publishing Company. ISBN 9781780910468." in articles. Could you do me a favour and have a look to see if this breakdown is in there please? If not, could you suggest anywhere else that might have it? Many thanks, Nzd (talk) 15:37, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

@Nzd: 1961–2: 7 League, 1 FA cup. 1962–3: 4 League (1 goal).
  • Ref: {{cite book|title=Crystal Palace: A Complete Record 1905–1989|first1=Mike|last1=Purkiss|first2= Nigel |last2=Sands|publisher =The Breedon Books Publishing Company|pages=216–9|ISBN=0907969542}}

King agrees;

  • Ref: {{cite book|title=Crystal Palace: A Complete Record 1905–2011|last=King|first=Ian|pages=340–3|publisher=The Derby Books Publishing Company|ISBN=9781780910468}}. I prefer Purkiss but they seldom disagree! Eagleash (talk) 15:55, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
Awesome, thank you! Nzd (talk) 16:13, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
@Nzd: No problem. I've changed the appearances but I'll leave it to you to decide on what refs to use. holmesdale.net usually has total 'caps' not just league. It's not wholly reliable being a bit of a fan site. I've never used it as a ref but frequently as an ext link. Eagleash (talk) 16:19, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi Eagleash, I've updated this now. The Palace info is bit light though. If you have anything you could add, particularly about the two coaching spells, that'd be great. Thanks again. Nzd (talk) 19:30, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
@Nzd: Despite Cartwright's important role in the successes of the '77–'79 youth teams and the players that emerged therefrom he does not gain much coverage in the various Palace histories. I could add a bit about where & when he made his debut but that's about all I think. I do not know why his CPFC career was so limited or why he ultimately left the club. It's one of those 'mysteries' where there may be more to it than meets the eye initially perhaps.
On another note the referencing needs a bit of tidying. You only need a ref name if the ref is used more than once (like the ref No.1)...I removed some unused ones yesterday. If you use 'cite web' it is supposed to be 'website' rather than 'publisher' written exactly (lower case) as in the URL but without 'http' or 'www'. If you wish to cite pages from a book in short form as with 'Belton P209' this is written as an 'sfn' and the full citation goes into a 'bibliography' section; see WP:REFB#Footnotes, notes, and references for more information. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 20:14, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I'm planning to do a bit more work on this so I'll sort out the ref format then. Nzd (talk) 22:18, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

CEX.10

Concerning CEX.IO, I have removed the link you requested. This company is a Scam and stealing thousands of dollars from investors every day as well as mis-using their validation data to commit Identity theft! Don't just take my word and my experience, the information is all over the Internet just do your own research. Please perform proper due diligence, not just copy and paste from the company's own website, which is what a lot of bloggers do, which just exacerbates the problem.... Literally thousands of people have been scammed by this company in the last few years. I personally had US$1000 stolen, but others have lost much more. Some so called "journalists" have been fooled by the fact that they send a lot of e-mails out. All they contain is excuses, and more phishing attempts to gather more personal info.

Evidence and reports of their Scams and misdealings are all over the Internet including but not limited to :- TRUSTPILOT REVIEWS - https://www.trustpilot.com/review/cex.io EXCHANGE REVIEWS AT CRYPTO COMPARE https://www.cryptocompare.com/exchanges/cexio/overview MORE REPORTS OF THEFT AT Bittrust http://bittrust.org/cexio

Just search on google for CEX.IO Scanm, or CEX.Fraud to find 1000's of similar reports

Please STOP the scammers removing my updates

Sorry I am not an experienced Wiki Editor, just trying to get the information out there to help people not have their money stolen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CyborgX (talkcontribs) 03:24, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Almost a a year

It's been almost a year since I awarded you an award for being one of the most outstanding contributors to the Help Desk. You've been consistent throughout; and an inspiration. Just dropped in to say hi and to say it's a pleasure to see you around. Lourdes 04:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks... :P Eagleash (talk) 16:34, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Apologies

Accidentally rolled back your edit on Tanya Burr; I've reverted my revert, just wanted to explain. Cheers, --Jack Frost (talk) 09:33, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

No problem. Eagleash (talk) 16:34, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

28 October 2017 - Help - topic - your alerts

Next to my name on the top line is an icon for 'Your alerts'. How to you send an alert to an individual. Anthony Staunton (talk) 05:42, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

@Anthony Staunton: You can contact another editor by leaving a message at their talk page or by WP:PINGing them as I have done here. 'Alerts' are to notify you of actions performed by editors at a page where you may have an interest, E.g. if an edit of yours is reverted, and are typically generated automatically, where appropriate, by the software. Eagleash (talk) 05:55, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Note This discussion was moved from the help desk. Eagleash (talk)

Thank you for your answer. I think I should have asked 'How do you WP:PING'. I want to say thank you to an editor who picked up a typo, I do not want to go to his talk page. I want to ping 'Thanks for amending fact to face'. Anthony Staunton (talk) 02:27, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

@Anthony Staunton: Please see WP:PING for full instructions. (I note there was a 'typo' in my original answer). You can of course only ping from a talk page (any talk page...your own, as I have done here, another editor's or an article page). You cannot send something equivalent to a 'text message'. You can however click on the 'thank' button next to an edit in a page history. Eagleash (talk) 02:40, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

JACKIE Oliver

Do you know how to read The article was good on Jackie Oliver or he had his head on it I do not understand such behavior not to put information ???? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.140.18.15 (talk) 18:08, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Be kind in judging, and gentle in hearing.

If the page already exists then delete it so I can create it again, the way my brain wants to see it ready. Or you let me edit it even if it goes against all of Wikipedia's politics. And I will insist on it even if I have to create another thousand accounts. Why do I need the full page for my work and if I was born in the well said city, winning the contest at adolescence about her story I know more than any creator or editor. There are only one photo and data scattered there, the page doesn't exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Debfdaumas (talkcontribs) 02:15, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the advices

Hi Eagleash, I just wrote on your talk page in order to thank you for the advices. I can assure that the Mclaren's pages modifies were just lexical and well-faith, but as beginner I still have some difficulties in understanding what's possible with this marvelous website. However, your interest in helping me really made me happy. Fererossoverdi (talk) 21:10, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Fererossoverdi

IP Address

Dear Eagleash,

I got a message of you upon my complaint that I lost my talk-history with Wikipedia. You mentioned the changing of IP addresses. I totally didn't know.I thought that when an Internet-provider gives you an IP address it remains the same as long as you are with him. This is not true?

Kind regards,

J.P. (Jan) Clifford 145.129.136.48 (talk) 15:34, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello Jan,
No, addresses can change, with varying degrees of frequency; see IP address#IP address assignment. There was recently a somewhat disruptive (now blocked) editor at one particular Wiki project who used over 250 different IPs in 18 months, sometimes more than one per day... All geolocated to the same 2 or 3 locations with different ranges used depending on the area. Only one address was used more than once. Eagleash (talk) 17:13, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
