Cholesterol side chain cleavage page

Hi, I have a question regarding an edit you made on the Cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme page under "Pathology". First as a note, I changed this to reflect that several examples of lipoid CAH caused by P450scc mutations do exist. Second, What do you mean by "More often but still rarely, the mutation may cause one of the subforms of congenital adrenal insufficiency."? Are you suggesting that you can have adrenal insufficiency due to a P450scc KO w/o any symptoms of lipoid CAH? Do you have a reference for this? Thanks, Skingski (talk) 16:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm terribly sorry, but feel dizzy and have some numbness in the left hand each time I try to think; have some strange attacks of some illness.. Going to the docs right now but no results yet.. I'll definitely look up the issue when I feel better, maybe in the evening. --CopperKettle 09:14, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First message

Hello Copper Kettle,

I've read your post to the discussion page for the deletion of the Reelin hypothesis of schizophrenia and I must say you seem to have a marvelous ability to express yourself in English. Your writing is better than that of many of us who are native speakers. Thank you for your contributions to the English language Wikipedia.

Thanx, Ande! I wish you good health (seeing from your info that you're having a nerve disease). Get well soon. (0:

I hope to contribute some more. My wish is to adorn the reelin page with some graphics - photos of brain structure and drawings from scientific articles, but I'm at a loss yet concerning Wikipedia's policy on copyright.

Reelin and TLE

Hi CopperKettle, I've been to the reelin page from the temporal lobe epilepsy page, and it does look like this might be a good link to TLE. I'll wait a day or two for feedback from some of the other editors, and then will start to add to and improve this. Do you have the pdfs of the original research you cite on this? If you do, would you mind sending them to edhubbard AT gmail DOT com (I've also posted this on the TLE talk page)? Edhubbard 14:10, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to hear that my work was useful, Edhubbard! I cite two papers, of which one is available only as an abstract: Reelin deficiency and displacement of mature neurons, but not neurogenesis, underlie the formation of granule cell dispersion in the epileptic hippocampus, the other has a free full text online:Role for Reelin in the Development of Granule Cell Dispersion in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
Alas, I have no PDF's of the articles.
I'm not much savvy in the area of epilepsy, so I haven't really burrowed into these findings.. Maybe one should try searching PubMed with keywords like "reelin granule cell dispersion" or "reelin epilepsy". I'll try to, don't know when however. Best regards, --CopperKettle 14:27, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to neuron articles

I just wanted to thank you for your recent edits to Betz cell and other neuroscience related articles. May I also encourage you to make a few big edits using preview rather than lots of little edit? I know that it is more work, and I have been known to use the microediting approach myself on occasion, but it makes it a lot easier for other editors to see your accomplishments and build on your contributions. -Selket Talk 17:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi CopperKettle,

You've done a lot of quality work over a long time...Any interest in adminship? I'd be happy to nominate you. — Scientizzle 20:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the opinion and the offer, Scientizzle! I did not know what admins do exactly. So I've read the Wikipedia:Administrators.. and then the Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship and it seems that the admin is expected to be acquainted with the tools and to be willing to use them. That might distract me just now from building up the neuroscience\psychiatric-related content at the Russian Wikipedia (there's a lot to be done), and finally pushing the Reelin here to the "star status". But maybe sometimes I will self-nominate, because my bilingualism could be useful, not mentioning my sharp mind and... Well, I'll think of it, thank you again! --CopperKettle (talk) 04:27, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. While your work to-date hasn't overlapped too much with the standard bureaucracy areas, you've got a long editing history that suggests you'd likely be a net gain to the project if you ever choose to try...I understand, however, the concern about it being a drain on content-building time. Keep up the good work, and let me know if you're ever interested because I'd be happy to help you out. Cheers, — Scientizzle 17:52, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
O.K, I'll let you know if the thought of adminship will tempt me. --CopperKettle 05:26, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, sorry, we don't have a relevant template for villages of Chelyabinsk Oblast (even those which are administrative centers). With over 1,200 villages in Chelyabinsk Oblast, you can imagine such a template would be quite long, not to mention useless :) I suppose we could create a template with all of the administrative centers of all districts, but, again, I don't see much practical use in it. If you have any other ideas, though, I'm open. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 21:45, January 20, 2009 (UTC)

FA deletion

I needed to delete the main page FA to clean up the history, so I created a temp copy with caps in the title, redirected the main page template to the copy, deleted the main article, restored it minus several revisions, and then reverted the template back to point to the restored main article. Only then did I delete the temp copy. Tim Vickers (talk) 03:19, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reelin query

Hi there, I have a bit of an odd query here. If you can help me with your expertise in just a few minutes, I'd be very grateful. If not, don't worry about it... I'm searching for an example where a gene/protein article on WP contains information that is not yet contained in GO annotations by professional curators. I figured that given your clear depth of knowledge about reelin, you might be able to spot something. I've pasted the GO annotations below for reelin (both human and mouse). Do you see any missing functions that could be supported by a specific PubMed reference?

GO:0000904 cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation
GO:0001764 neuron migration
GO:0004712 protein serine/threonine/tyrosine kinase activity
GO:0005509 calcium ion binding
GO:0005515 protein binding
GO:0005576 extracellular region
GO:0005578 proteinaceous extracellular matrix
GO:0005615 extracellular space
GO:0005737 cytoplasm
GO:0007155 cell adhesion
GO:0007275 multicellular organismal development
GO:0007411 axon guidance
GO:0007417 central nervous system development
GO:0007420 brain development
GO:0007626 locomotory behavior
GO:0008233 peptidase activity
GO:0008236 serine-type peptidase activity
GO:0008270 zinc ion binding
GO:0010001 glial cell differentiation
GO:0016787 hydrolase activity
GO:0018108 peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation
GO:0021511 spinal cord patterning
GO:0021800 cerebral cortex tangential migration
GO:0030425 dendrite
GO:0042403 thyroid hormone metabolic process
GO:0045860 positive regulation of protein kinase activity
GO:0046872 metal ion binding
GO:0048265 response to pain
GO:0051057 positive regulation of small GTPase mediated signal transduction

Again, please disregard the question if it would take you more than a few minutes to think of something. (BTW, I could have swore that I left a message here before telling you how awesome the reelin article is, but apparently not. It's always the example I show when I promote the Gene Wiki...) Cheers, AndrewGNF (talk) 20:36, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Seems to list a lot of functions, even the "response to pain".. Maybe.. "modulation of synaptic plasticity and memory"? (PMID 16102539 ; PMID 17359920) And.. regulation of NMDA-receptor development (subunit shift: PMID 15987942 PMID 17881522) and maintenance of NMDA-receptor subunit composition? (PMID 19430527) Thank you for judging the article so high. If another function suddenly comes up to me that is not mentioned, I'll let you know; on the other hand, some that I mentioned may easily go under "brain development" or some other name.. --CopperKettle 02:25, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
These are fantastic examples, thanks much. I may be pushing my luck here, but it would be even better if I could include another example where the referenced article was older, say before 2000. Any thoughts?
Just to give you a little context, these examples will go in a grant proposal to continue Gene Wiki development. I want to first illustrate cases where the references in the reelin article will help curators assign new GO functions, and the above examples will work perfectly for that. If they exist, I also want to illustrate cases where an expert in the field would find it 100% obvious from the older literature that a gene/protein as a certain function, but where the systematic annotation efforts have missed it because they've only started curating articles in the last 5-7 years. Anyway, thanks again for the examples above, and let me know if you have any other ideas. Cheers, AndrewGNF (talk) 04:24, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your efforts in keeping the project going! The RELN gene was only discovered in 1996.. but I'll try to remember or find examples dated earlier than 2000. Best regards, --CopperKettle 06:15, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a couple of refs to reelin's role in regulating connections in hippocampus and entorhinal cortex: PMID 8985248 and PMID 9952412. The articles are published before 2000. However.. I've just added them, so unsure if that counts. Grant-proposal reading guys might object. Will look for more. (0: --CopperKettle 12:45, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely perfect... These examples will be excellent illustrations. Many thanks! Cheers, AndrewGNF (talk) 19:41, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The odds are low that

you have any interest in women's basketball. However, the individuals in three articles I have contributed to, Tina Charles, Sue Bird, and Asjha Jones are competing in the 2009 UMMC Ekaterinburg International Invitational. (I know it started yesterday, I hope it is not just a one day event). Again, I know it is unlikely that you have interest, but I saw that you are in that city, and just had to say something.SPhilbrickT 23:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Maybe later I'd start one of the pages in RuWiki, but I indeed have low interest in sportspersons.. But if you create a stub of reelin in some foreign language, I can change my mind.. (0: --CopperKettle 02:29, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Hey, that reelin article is quite impressive. No, I don’t have a prayer of converting it to another language.
However, I do see that it has an impressive list of citations, which makes it quite a nice article, but also makes it difficult to edit with the seas of reference data interspersed with main article text. The new WP:LDR citation style moves much of that material down into the reference area. I’d like to take a stab at trying it, to see if it would be an improvement. If you are open to looking at it, I’ll do a couple sections in a user subpage, so it won’t affect the article itself. I’ll try this weekend, unless you are familiar with WP:LDR and have already decided against it. I do see you using a clever technique to separate the references from the text itself. Very nice, I hadn’t noticed that elsewhere. So one the one hand, you might decide the problem isn’t a big problem. On the other hand, you clever idea means you are interested in the separation, so you might want to see what I can do.
I also note some white space in the middle of the article, for example in section 5 (Function). I took a quick look and didn’t see why. I guess you want the text next to the relevant image, but I’m not sure that makes the appearance better. In any event, very impressive article, and I’d like to take a shot at making it better.SPhilbrickT 13:51, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good evening, Sphilbrick! I looked and consider LDR style quite a great idea, thank you for notifying me of this. (0: If there is some awkwardness in the looks introduced by the free spaces, feel free to remove them. Best regards, --CopperKettle 14:24, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a stab at converting a couple sections, and we'll see if you think the improvement is worthwhile. SPhilbrickT 14:58, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed change to Reelin

I proposed a change to the citation style of the Reelin. I think it would make the article easier to navigate for editors (with virtually no change for readers). However, the effort to make the change is not trivial, so I would like to get feedback from editors before attempting a conversion. I've posting this message to editors who have a fair number of recent edits to that page. Conversion done. Looks like I made an error on one ref that you picked up. I made a couple errors as I went through, but they usually manifested themselves as a redlink error - I fixed all those as I went along - not quite sure why I missed that one. Nice article, BTW, if I haven't said so before. This is a classic example of what makes WP a special project - more than enough information on the subject, in a coherent article, to educate a layperson on a subject, and plenty of references if you want to learn a lot more.SPhilbrickT 13:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your wonderful contribution! A virtual handshake from me. (0: Reelin caught my attention when I stubled upon a multimedia lecture by Erminio Costa (no longer online). I was amazed to know that there may exist some real clue into the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders.. So the article was built from the scratch by the layperson (smile), as I was reading more and more about this and other proteins. (0: I do wish that some layperson gets really hooked, say, on DISC1 or NRG1; would be great to see common knowledge extended. I have nominated Inhibitory Control Test, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Inhibitory Control Test. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Licensing problems with Oak of Mamre

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Oak of Mamre, please note that retroactively to November 1, 2008, Wikipedia can no longer accept text content that is only licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. Text content must be released under at least the CC-BY-SA license, and preferably the GFDL. Please see Wikipedia:Licensing update for more information. A tag has been placed on Pelageya Khanova requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ukexpat (talk) 03:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Psychiatrick (talk) 14:58, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will delete you but beleive me that the lists were meant just for my consumption and I've never really considered you a real antipsychiatrist, only using the description in a general way. Forgive me if this description has offended you. I deeply value your work at Wikipedia. Due to my bad physical condition (neurological muscle spasms and mental confusion while reading\writing\thinking, general weakness; a tumour in my left hemisphere may be a cause, or some neuro-endocrine malaise - I've had strange untypical diabetes for over 10 years now) I have no strenth now to investigate your case in full. Best regards, --CopperKettle 10:57, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article “ru:Базалья, Франко” and many other articles in the Russian and English Wikipedia stemmed and developed from stubs created by you. The Russian admins cherish your article “ru:Шизофрения” as the apple of their eye. Your informational influence on the Russian and English Wikipedia was considerable. Please include me back in your lists under the indication “human rights” if you want to watch my contributions. I don’t ask you to investigate my case but I think you should know that the Russian Wikipedia is under the admins and their banhammers beating users who describe political abuse of psychiatry and foreign mental health systems. I understand what means “a tumour in my left hemisphere.” This may cause bad physical condition, and this cause is much more probable than diabetes. Solutions: tomography and eradication of tumor. In addition, chemotherapy is often (but not always) used. You are needed for people… or God. Psychiatrick (talk) 15:30, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages

Dear Author/CopperKettle

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address edited an article on Leukodystrophy. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance.Hydra Rain (talk) 15:38, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge of RELN gene and Reelin Protein

Hi! I just saw that you merged the items human protein Reelin (Q13561329) and the human gene RELN (Q414043) on Wikidata. The gene and protein items should not be merged, as they follow a well designed data structure [2]. What we are implementing here is to populate the GeneWiki info boxes exclusively from Wikidata, therefore we need Wikidata gene items attached to Wikipedia gene pages If you merged other gene items to protein items, I would ask you to undo the merge. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Custom signature fix needed

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error, specifically formatting tags that are in the wrong order.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Change the signature as show below, or make other edits to make the signature appear how you want it to appear.
  3. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Current signature:
<font color="000066">[[User:CopperKettle|<b>C</b><font color="CC3300">opper</font><b>K</b><font color="CC0000">ettle</font>]]</font>

Fixed signature:
[[User:CopperKettle|<b><span style="color:#000066;">C</span></b><span style="color:#CC3300;">opper</span><b><span style="color:#000066;">K</span></b><span style="color:#CC0000;">ettle</span>]]

More information is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures or respond here. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:07, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This fix is still needed. Please take a moment to copy and paste the new signature into your preferences. Some of your recent edits added syntax errors to talk pages, which now need to be cleaned up by other editors. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:36, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oops! I'll fix it now. Thank you for reminding! --CopperKettle (talk) 13:40, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Riboflavin

In English Wikipedia, statements of fact require references that meet WP:MEDRS standards. For your rare conditions additions - which I reverted - you had provided Wikilinks. Content at those articles may be adequately referenced. You could then copy content and references as long as you make clear in your Edit summary attributions to the sources of the content. Hi David! The first condition is called riboflavin-responsive exercise intolerance, it's self-evident that it is responsive to riboflavin. For the second condition I provided a reference with 13 cases and a review of literature. What else was needed? --CopperKettle (talk) 16:55, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here: Riboflavin-responsive multiple Acyl-CoA dehydrogenation deficiency in 13 cases, and a literature review in mainland Chinese patients. Why did you delete it? --CopperKettle (talk) 16:58, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Quote from a 2008 review (Bruno et al., PMID 18769256):

Less severely affected patients might present with progressive muscle weakness and LSM mainly in adulthood and are responsive to riboflavin treatment (riboflavin-responsive MADD).

--CopperKettle (talk) 17:03, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If I add a ref to this 2008 review, will this count a proper reference? As for riboflavin-responsive exercise intolerance, there are no reviews yet, because it's rare and was only discovered in 2016. But the very nature of the disease is expressed in its name. --CopperKettle (talk) 17:06, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion on this is that the references for rr-MADD justify adding that as a rare condition, but the evidence for RREI - a case study - does not meet MEDRS standards despite there being a Wikipedia article of that name. David notMD (talk) 12:29, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see! I agree that the use of secondary sources is the golden standard. But the MEDRS standards were created to help weed out suspicious and unfounded facts. If a disease is rare, but in several case reports have been described as reacting drastically to treatment with riboflavin, to the extent that it was named "riboflavin-responsive", well, I think that's one good exception to the MERDS standards. Years may pass before enough cases accumulate to warrant a review (a secondary published source). --CopperKettle (talk) 13:21, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
