Good work on expanding Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli and adding lots of sources! --Apoc2400 (talk) 21:16, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References

References for medical article are essential. Some of the content added to diarrhea was unreffed and thus removed. Cheers. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:56, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cut and paste

Please do not cut and past as this is potentially a copyvio. This text

"Currently, two vaccines against the disease are licensed for use and several more are in development. Safety and efficacy trials in Africa and Asia found that the currently licensed vaccines dramatically reduced severe disease among infants in developing countries, where the majority of rotavirus deaths occur. Where they have been introduced, rotavirus vaccines are making a major impact—slashing hospitalizations due to rotavirus, while also reducing hospitalizations for diarrhea of any cause. Rotavirus is less prevalent among unvaccinated children, as well, suggesting herd immunity as an indirect result of rotavirus vaccine introduction" Is exactly the same as http://www.path.org/vaccineresources/rotavirus-info.php --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:25, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Research which is ongoing

Typically goes at the end of article per WP:MEDMOS. Thus moved there. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:28, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This ref does not work? http://www.who.int/vaccine_research/diseases/diarrhoeal/en/index4.html#Intro --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:30, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to be working for me. Are you still having problems with it? ChildSurvival (talk) 18:48, 3 May 2012 (UTC)ChildSurvival[reply]

Ref does not support

In this edit [1] you add this ref http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=11100619 to support this text "Current death rates have come down significantly to approximately 1.3 million deaths in children annually, largely due to the global introduction of oral rehydration therapy." which it does not. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:52, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This does not appear supported either "More than 450,000 of those are due to rotavirus in those under 5 years of age, 85 percent of whom live in developing countries.[1]" Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:04, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The correct reference for 1.3 million is this 2010 article from The Lancet available at http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(10)60549-1/abstract.

The correct reference for "More than 450,000" is this 2011 article in The Lancet available at http://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099%2811%2970253-5/abstract.
The correct reference for 85 percent: WHO. Global networks for surveillance of rotavirus gastroenteritis, 2001–2008. Weekly Epidemiological Record. 2008;83(47):421–428 available at http://www.who.int/wer/2008/wer8347.pdf.
I'd like to update the text with this information. What do you think is the best way to do that to avoid futher back and forth? Thank you! ChildSurvival (talk) 19:02, 3 May 2012 (UTC)ChildSurvival[reply]
Okay thanks. Will update. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:05, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay have updated the page in question. On your previous attempt the references where not in the right spot which got me confused. Thanks and welcome to Wikipedia. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:26, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you!

Thanks for your work at Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. Pediatrics is an under-loved section of Wikipedia.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Copy/Paste. Please be careful.

Hello User:ChildSurvival. I'm glad to see someone taking an interest in some of the diarrheal disease articles. However, please be careful that as you update information you don't copy and paste wording from other sites as you may have done in this edit to Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli. Your wording

"Results from the Global Enterics Multicenter Study confirmed that ETEC remains within the top four pathogens causing moderate-to-severe diarrhea among children in Africa and South Asia".

is nearly completely identical to the following from path.org.

"Results from the Global Enterics Multicenter Study (GEMS) confirmed that both ETEC and Shigella remain within the top four pathogens causing moderate-to-severe diarrhea among children in Africa and South Asia."

This one is also cutting it pretty close. Your text:

"Currently, no licensed vaccine targeting Shigella exists, though several are in various stages of development."

is perhaps a bit too close to the text from Path.org which reads:

"Currently, no licensed vaccines targeting Shigella or ETEC exist; however, vaccines against both bacteria are in development."

The same language is in your edit at Shigella. The edit to Shigellosis had the most language that sounds identical to the wording at Path.org. I went through and tried to delete language that looked as if it had been copied and pasted. Only in the Shigellosis case did I revert the whole edit. Of course, we all want to improve the coverage of infectious diseases/global health/diarrhea here on Wikipedia, and your edits were largely huge improvements. But please, please be careful that in a rush to improve an article you don't accidentally take wording directly from another site. I hope you decide to stick around and keep improving pages here. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to leave me a note here or at my talk page. Happy editing. Ajpolino (talk) 05:01, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
