Proposed poll

Re the caps and title case, I asked Aleandr and he says I should ask you about this. I am considering launching a new information poll at WT:TITLE, to get a better idea of where people stand on the changes that Born2cycle has proposed. I have drafted a poll in my user subpage at User:Dicklyon/Recognizability poll. I'd like to post this to WT:TITLE soon, if you think it won't be disruptive to the ongoing process. Casliber I think your words are being used out of context, and perhaps you should look in detail at the discussions at WP:AT which have since last November discussing the use of capitals obliquely.

The question has repeatedly raised by Tony1 etc at Wikipedia talk:Article titles titles should include more wording to make it clear to a reader what the topic is about. But that raises lots of questions about Wikipedia:AT#Precision and disambiguation, for which there has been a broad consensus for many years. During these discussions it became clear that there had been an edit to WP:AT last year that had been a simplification of the words that unintentionally had had changed the meaning of "Recognizability". It was proposed that this change be reverted. There is a detailed account of this at User:Born2cycle/DearElen.

There have been two polls on this specific point. The first one had a clear consensus and the second one was 17 in favour with no dissent for near identical wording: "Recognizability – Is the candidate title a recognizable name or description of the topic to someone familiar with (though not necessarily expert in) the topic?"

• Poll 1 (21 December 2011) consensus that would be confirmed in poll 2 -- BTW notice who initiated poll 1 and that it was initiated although there was the same consensus emerging in the previous section.
• Poll 2 (24 January 2012) 17 in favour no dissent.

Now your here is being used to justify another poll that does not include the wording that has clearly emerged as the consensus wording (and if I were not assuming good faith would say that it seems to be a repeat of the tactic used when poll 1 was launched). I have suggested that this most recent poll is collapsed as we clearly do not need another one and there is a perfectly good summary at User:Born2cycle/DearElen, and your comment is being used to justify continuing with the poll (hence I why I write I think that your words are begin taken out of context). -- PBS (talk) 23:28, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Core Contest

Pakistan FAC

Hi, I was advised by one of the reviewers to ask active FAC editors to review the Pakistan article's FAC at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Pakistan/archive1‎. It has been out for nine days, the problems mentioned in the start were fixed but there have been no further comments. There was a question about a dispute that occurred after the nomination, I've explained about it on the FAC page that there's been no consensus for it on the talk page and the current version is as of consensus. Black mamba

This is a decent article but it just needs a little tweeking. It would be a shame if it was delisted. It's well sourced, contains no original research. It's broad in its coverage, it's neutral and unbiased. Images are relevant to the topic and all are tagged with proper licenses. The prose is the biggest issue and I believe a little group effort put in and we'll have this article in shape in no time. There are some other issues with the article but nothing that can't be corrected or re-written. I left this message in the reassessment page: Talk:Black_mamba/GA2. Just to say that I have had a look at your final point at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Rwanda/archive2 regarding the foreign relations, and expanded the paragraph a bit with references to France and Uganda. This part actually proved harder than I thought it would as there is not a vast amount of published literature, and I was worried that it would end up sounding like a series of bullet points if I tried to detail the histories of relations with every country. Thanks for the credit of another personal DYK, ... that Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was the soloist in a recording of Max Reger's Requiem with the Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg in 1990! DFD was the first singer to impress me for life, and I sang in the premiere of the organ version of the Requiem, "Seele, vergiss sie nicht" (Soul, don't forget them) in the Marktkirche, will never forget that experience. Core Contest

Hi I just spotted you had revived this but appears too late. I proposed to Jimbo and the foundation a while back to introduce a Core Contest for Article of the Month every month funded by the foundation. the core contest motivated us to slog our guts out to produce whopping articles like Deforestation in Brazil, Middle Ages etc. I think if it was well advertised it would lure in new contributors and also get more of the regulars working on the most important articles. I see you have Sue Gardner on board as a judge, but is the current contest funded by Wikimedia Australia or something or the main foundation? Because its something I'm very interested in helping promoting and think it would be of great benefit to article growth and improvement. Thankyou so much for doing that. I think Amazon vouchers as a prize would be the most value though as editors can buy books to use as a sources and feed back into the project. The core articles of course are priority but I was also thinking about a similar DYK of the Month scheme to try to attract new editors and more articles! Yes, the thing is is advertising. We need to publicize it as much as possible. The fact I wasn't even aware of it says something.. I would say if we advertised it in a banner at the top of pages like a "Fancy winning $xxx of Amazon vouchers? Then enter our monthly Core Contest competition and have a go at writing! WikiCup 2012 March newsletter

We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.

Congratulations to Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!

It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Harassment of editors and Arbcom transparency

On my talk page at User_talk:Russavia#Comment_from_AGK, there is a discussion between myself and your fellow Arb User:AGK, concerning an issue which came to the attention of Arbcom. As the various links and diffs show, many editors saw the recent RFC/U against User:Fae as harassment, at best, and as homophobic harassment, at worst.

AGK firstly stated that he "voted" to ban Delicious Carbuncle, then has "corrected" himself to state that he merely was in favour of the Committee reviewing the case; either way there was opposition on the Committee to either banning Delicious Carbuncle or even reviewing the harassment that Fae was being subjected to.

As an Arb, the community elected you to represent the community for the community. The Committee time and time again pushes on editors who come before it that transparency is essential in our editing; in fact, transparency is one of the key tenets of this project, however the Arbcom often does not act in the same transparent way that it (and the community) expects of the community itself.

AGK states on my talk page that one can only expect a transparent hearing if a request for arbitration is filed, and states that most Arbcom business is conducted this way. This notion is somewhat correct, but it is also very wrong. As the committee time and time makes a point of stating that community transparency is essential, the community also expects the same of the Committee -- at all times. The Committee also makes many decisions "behind closed doors", and when pushed to explain decisions cites various "get out of jail free cards" to avoid being transparent to the community-at-large. This includes decisions such as banning editors for things done offwiki which can't clearly be attributed to that editor, or unbanning editors with a history of socking, etc, etc.

In aid of this, and in the interests of transparency to the Community at large, I am asking that you answer the following questions:

1. Did you discuss the harassment of Fae on the Arbcom-l mailing list?
2. If you did discuss this on the mailing list, were you in favour or against the Committee reviewing the information?
3. If the discussion got to anything resembling a vote, did you vote in favour or against banning Delicious Carbuncle?

These are very simple questions which one is able to answer if they are truly for transparency both on the Committee and in the community in general, and I would expect that many in the community would be wanting transparent answers to these questions.

The last thing, it is of course Fae's choice if he wishes to request a case for Arbitration, but these questions are not being asked to have an end-run around the Arbitration process, but are being asked in the interests of transparency on a specific example that the Committee was aware of and refused to act upon. I would expect Fae and other editors (especially LGBT editors) would be wanting transparent answers here now, before deciding if they wish to act. Russavia ^{ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)} 07:53, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

(1) yes, (2) consensus on whether we're arbcom or govcom varies (ie.e dispute resolution vs user conduct review/both/which takes precedence) is still undecided. There are times that we'd accept cases if people requested a case, where we've not sprung one de novo so to speak (3) the issue here is a complex one in which evidence really needs to be examined systematically before proper decisions can be made - I only glanced at some stuff, and lacking anyone referring it to us didn't look further. The process was fine - there are a several references that need formatting, and [3] is not a Reliable Source I'd think. I suspect something has been published somewhere that the writer can replace with.

I often just roll up my sleeves and format the refs myself if they're simple. Anyway, just tidy (or get the writer to tidy) the refs. The other main issue is checking that the text reflects the sources but does not paraphrase them. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:46, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Banksia aspleniifolia

Hi, I saw your change to the "nomen dubium" statement on the Banksia oblongifolia page, and am still puzzled. The description looks okay, I think, it includes some leaf shape description, at least, so it isn't one of those "the plant is pretty" or "it has a different DNA sequence" problems that don't qualify as descriptions. The paragraph on the wikipedia page is still, I think, difficult to read, so it would be good to rephrase it or shorten it. What did you decide the problem was with the description? Thanks. It wasn't me that had a problem with the Description but Alex George who published a monograph of the genus in 1981. He wrote that the description of the leaves was insufficient to diagnose the species as the description could apply to some other species found in the same area. Furthermore the material that was used for the description has been lost, so it is unclear whether what Salisbury had was oblongifolia anyway. All australian authorities have followed George thereafter in this. Given our role at wikipedia is to reflect/report opinion and not create it, that's what I've done (personally I liked the name aspleniifolia...) Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:36, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I am glad you brought that up - as I had not realised it mentions the leaves are hairy underneath. The other issue is how Salisbury was perceived (i.e. negatively) on account of his getting Brown's work and publishing it before Brown himself and trumping him on names. I think there is still a problem here, as it sounds as if Salisbury's names are being ignored, but they are actually validly published according to the code. I don't see Salisbury's work listed in Appendix VI or the names listed as rejected. The phrase used in the text is " he concluded that it does not diagnose the species to the exclusion of others and is hence not a validly published name" - i.e. George concluded it is not a valid name as if it is, then it has precedence. I'm guessing it is nomen illegitimum on basis of 6.4 something here, but none of the links fit really. The issue is 32.2. "A diagnosis of a taxon is a statement of that which in the opinion of its author distinguishes the taxon from other taxa." - now, George feels that the description is insufficient diagnosis, which is a prerequisite for valid publication, yet there is not link to what it should be called if it fails this criterion....Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:51, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Yesterday I had an editing conflict with you when working on the Etymology section of Western Jackdaw. I tend to make all the alterations in a paragraph or section before saving it which makes a conflict more likely. I propose restricting my editing of the article to the morning here - in practice that means times between 6.00 and 12.00 as recorded in the "History" of the article. If we cooperate on this it will prevent conflicts and unnecessary duplication. Conflict resolution

People started editing and re-editing the genre for the band Combichrist so to avoid an editing war, I placed a tag by the genre and asked users to sort it on the main page. 89.244.71.38 (Who keeps changing their IP, and has stated so) has ignored the request and reverts the edit each and every time I ask hin to sort it on the talk page. He's been abusive on the talk page, and has said he'll keep reverting the edits, rather than debate the issue properly, as an adult. Each attempt has been ignored, so I'd like to request semi protection for the Combichrist page so it can't be abused by random ip's like the user has been doing, as it's the only way to end the editing war and stop him posting abuse. WikiCup 2012 April newsletter

Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score.

65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Matthewedwards (submissions) and Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year.

An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo is a large cockatoo native to Australia. It is more common in the drier parts of the continent. Five subspecies are recognised, differing most significantly in beak size. Although the more northerly subspecies are widespread, the two southern subspecies are under threat. Adult Red-tailed Black Cockatoos are around 60 centimetres (24 in) in length and sexually dimorphic. Males are completely black in colour, excepting their prominent red tail bands; the slightly smaller females are black with yellow barring on chest with yellow grading to red spots over their crest, cheeks and wings and have yellow-orange tail stripes. The species is usually found in eucalyptus woodlands, or along water courses. In the more northerly parts of the country, these cockatoos are commonly seen in large flocks. They are seed eaters and cavity nesters. As such, they depend on trees with fairly large diameters, generally Eucalyptus. Populations in southeastern Australia are threatened by the reduction in forest cover and by other habitat alterations. Of the black cockatoos, the red-tailed black is the most adaptable to aviculture, although black cockatoos are much rarer and much more expensive outside Australia. (more...)

Ye-eah, mostly (depending on which editor you ask as we both know there are sections of the community with a less-than-sanguine opinion on DYK). Depression (mood)

Hi. Somebody has raised some pertinent questions on Talk:Depression (mood). I'm not sure I agree, but I think they deserve a better informed response than I can offer. I've had serious concerns about the article all along. I've been trying to keep it a simple directory to the relevant articles, but feel there's something not quite right about using DSM/ICD descriptions from the syndromes to define the mood. Don't know. Anyway, if you have any thoughts, they'd be very welcome. Maybe, if there's substantial literature on dysphoria, we could use that for the basis of the definition of the mood - they seem to be interchangeable terms. Western Jackdaw

I am in agreement with Andrew Gray that by using lower case letters for jackdaw but uppercase for Western Jackdaw the article is anomalous. To say "A jackdaw and a Rook" seems wrong. Would it be a good thing to capitalise jackdaw throughout the article? I'll be happy to do so if you think this would be best. Alternatively we could replace "jackdaw" with "Western Jackdaw" throughout the article or "Western Jackdaw" and "jackdaw" with "Jackdaw" throughout. (I tend to think the last idea might be the best - the bird to me is a jackdaw not a western jackdaw, a term I have never met before.)

I've basically finished working on Cactus; there's always extra that could be added but I think all the main topics are covered. Growers will always want more (and sometimes add poorly sourced bits I have to remove), but I believe what is there now is adequate and is within WP:NOTMANUAL.

A cockatoo is any of the 21 species belonging to the bird family Cacatuidae. When I joined Wikipedia, and added Unreferenced parts, I was told that I needed to find references before I add any information, which I have carried through until today. I guess the point I'd like to make is you often never know what folks are doing IRL (I've burnt pancakes while ducking back to the computer to revert or add something), and sometimes folks are busy. Also if it looks plausible and it's a pretty accessible topic, maybe just have a google and see if you can add sources sometimes. It makes this place a whole lot friendlier. Hello, How are you? I need your help. I thank you your help in the articles. I ask you: Can you find more people willing writing in tropical trees, genera and families? I ask you if you could enlarge some articles making better known this group of trees in Wikipedia, adding links to genera and families and writing information and asking people if they are interested in writing about topics as tropical trees articles, tropical forest articles or botanical or biodiversity articles. Do you know Wikipedia forums that could be interested about these type of articles? They are welcome too. I thank you very much.

I am from Spain and my mother language is not English language. Many country side areas, and Natural areas and Living beings are in Countries where population cannot collaborate with Wikipedia, but their Natural World and its highly economically valuable species are very important too in the human knowledge and developtment of the mankind. People should have information because these matters are important, not just a curiosity only. This unknow world is from Poles to ecuator, in unoccupied oceanic areas closely to Europe, in Deserts as Sahara, or whatever. But to me the main aim is to gather the abundant information disperse about living communities and living beings that have existed for millions of years because they are disappearing and in 20 years they will are not longer exist. Echigo mole again

A sockpuppet account Jello carotids (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) who has already been blocked for trolling on the WP:AN thread that another user opened on Echigo mole has been blocked as "sock troll" by FPaS. He also opened a SPI report on me similar to that of a previously blocked sockpuppet of Echigo mole, having located legitimate alternative accounts, used either for collecting information on the use of vodafone IPs for socking or collecting large numbers of rough diffs as a preliminary to submitting evidence on arbcom pages. Jclemens has not run a checkuser on the blocked account Jello carotids. Instead he is suggesting that my collapsing on AN and reversion there and elsewhere, which are similar to those of mutliple other users, are a sign of battleground behaviour. He has restored the SPI report on me deleted by FPaS. On 29 March, Southend sofa (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) made a similar report which was dismissed by several administrators as without merit. Southend sofa, because of a set of anomolies in their editing related to other sockpuppet accounts of Echigo mole, was blocked indefinitely as a sockpuppet of Echigo mole 2 weeks later by DeltaQuad. When the SPI report on me was listed, one of the alternative accounts in use for the arbcom review was listed and all the raw diff files were present. 3 days later, since the rough diffs were still needed, I coalesced the rough diffs into one file in a new account that was reported by Jello carotids, identically to Southend sofa. Jclemens seems to be militating to change the way serial wikihounders whose sockpuppetry shouts out through a megaphone are treated. He seems to be doing this in only one specific case, where he favours the sockpuppet, known for continued harrassment and wikihounding of an established user for 3 years, to the detriment of that established user. WikiCup 2012 May newsletter

We're halfway through round 3 (or the quarter finals, if you prefer) and things are running smoothly. We're seeing very high scoring; as of the time of writing, the top 16 all have over 90 points. This has already proved to be more competative than this time last year- in 2011, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 was the lowest qualifying score. People have also upped their game slightly from last round, which is to be expected as we approach the end of the competition. Leading Pool A is Cwmhiraeth (submissions), whose points have mostly come from a large number of did you knows on marine biology. Pool B's leader, Grapple X (submissions), is for the first time not our highest scorer at the time of newsletter publication, but his good articles on The X-Files and Millenium keep him in second place overall. Miyagawa (submissions) leads Pool C, our quietest pool, with content in a variety of areas on a variety of topics. Pool D is led by Casliber (submissions), our current overall leader. Nearly half of Casliber's points come from his triple-scored Western Jackdaw, which is now a featured article.

This round has seen an unusually high number of featured lists, with nearly one in five remaining participants claiming one, and one user, Muboshgu (submissions), claiming two. Miyagawa's featured list, 1936 Summer Olympics medal table, was even awarded double points. By comparison, good article reviews seem to be playing a smaller part, and featured topics portals remain two content-types still unutilised in this competition. Other than that, there isn't much to say! Things are coming along smoothly. Aaah right, ok, I see where you're at - I was going to suggest a reasonably sized railway station, but looks like London Paddington station is already a GA. Looking through your contributions, I see Great Western Main Line as not a bad choice but already buffed up a fair bit. Articles like Chippenham railway station are good too -they are often quite small so easy to get everything written on - see Herne Hill railway station which is now a Featured Article as something to aspire to (and copy). Wessex Main Line is broader, so might be a good one too. One thing to do is to go to a local library to get a local history book, which will give you a massive advantage and you can slot in masses of detail. I like this idea as it is one way wikipedia improves what is online by adding to it, rather than folks just doing google searches. Anyway, lots of choices. Do you have any local history books? I was the reviewer of HH railway station on it's GA review! And I don't have any history books on things like this, but I tend to use google and things like that! You could enlarge about this topic in Wikipedia forums that could be interested about these type of articles. They are welcome too. I thank you very much. Really there are few people interested in botany and you can find information in other Wikipedias or translate information from other languages. If you are not very interested in write about botany or your friends are not interested, you can tell them, that botany is a good way to practise another language and learn about vocabulary.

Jackdaws and frogs

"My" jackdaws are keeping me well amused. I notice that one young adult has a leg band so it must have arrived from elsewhere. As I cross the yard, I throw the jackdaws a handful of hen pellets when I am going to feed the hens. In anticipation of this, they congregate nearby and the boldest ones land on the ground near me. They actually prefer small bits of the dry extruded complete food I use for the dogs. The other day I threw a single hen pellet to one and it picked it up as if to eat it and then dropped it again, clearly signalling that it was disappointed that it was not dog food!

• 409 new editors participated during the entire pilot period, with about 40 new editors participating in the Teahouse per week.

• New editors who participated in the Teahouse edit 10x the number of articles, make 7x more global edits, and 2x as much of their content survives on Wikipedia compared to the control group.

WP:DYK question

Hi there. I already submitted Drowned God to DYK here, but then I noticed you were one of the active admins for DYK, and since we've recently had some tangential interaction at the Ankheg AfD, I thought I'd ask you about my nomination. Are exceptions are ever made for articles that don't technically hit the five days/5x requirement under certain extenuating circumstances? If they aren't, I'd like to pull down my nomination and see if I can somehow squeeze more content into the article in the next few days, but I'm afraid I'm about at the limit of the sources I've found. Re up late for the draft

I could say the same for you ... up very late! :) My excuse, however, is that I am in Canada (where it was not at all late), wending my way to Wikimania, mostly without Internet access. Wanted to publish the article before arriving. It took a lot of research to get those sources. Best look at item 2 of the Wikipedia:The_Core_Contest#Rules - my thinking was we'd take it on a case by case basis, but there is no black-and-white - for vital articles 1>2>3>4. Core articles...hmmm, somewhere between 3 and 4, but underrepresented articles (such as food, particularly healthy food and staples etc.) might get some kudos. But a whopping improvement of a lvl 4 might trump a so-so improvement of lvl 3. Having three judges will help here.....One reason I kept it short was to keep it fun. Excessively long articles

I think you are very public spirited and dedicated to helping others and the good of Wikipedia! With regards to the Bivalvia FAC, thank you for your help. I have split off the 2010 taxonomy section. On looking at the instructions on how to do a split, I see that 60k is thought to be big enough for any article and 100k probably excessive. The trouble is that in trying to give comprehensive coverage, articles inevitably get longer. Bivalvia is well over 100k and so is Frog. In looking at the latter and how it could be reduced in size, I wondered about splitting off the Locomotion section. What do you think? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:34, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Hah, you think those are long....have a look at Betelgeuse....Major depressive disorder was my longest FAC I think. I think if you've added everything you think you need to frog, then copyediting might help a little - but it is still an ok size. Frog (by Dr PDAs tool) has 55 kB (9335 words) readable prose size, and bivalvia has 53 kB (8873 words) "readable prose size". They're both fine. So, I saw a bot moved the DYK for piercing point to the 'waiting' list, and I got a credit on my talk, and a credit got placed on the talk page claiming an appearance on 26 June 2012, but I can not find it, either on the main page or the page Wikipedia:Recent_additions/2012/June#26_June_2012, as is claimed... am I missing something? WikiCup 2012 June newsletter

Apologies for the lateness of this letter; our usual bot wasn't working. We are now entering round 4, our semi-finals, and have our final 16. A score of 243 was required to reach this round; significantly more than 2011's 76 points, and only a little behind 2010's 250 points. By comparison, last year, 150 points in round 4 secured a place in the final; in 2010, 430 were needed. Commiserations to Pool A's igordebraga (submissions), who scored 242 points, missing out on a place in the round by a whisker. However, congratulations to Pool B's Grapple X (submissions), whose television articles have brought him another round victory. Pool A's Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second overall, with an impressive list of biological did you knows, good articles and featured articles. Third overall was Pool D's Muboshgu (submissions), with a long list of contibutions, mostly relating to baseball. Of course, with the points resetting every round, the playing field has been levelled. The most successful Pool was Pool D, which saw seven into the final round. Pool B saw four, C saw three and Pool A saw only the two round leaders.

A quick note about other competitions taking place on Wikipedia which may be of interest. There are 13 days remaining in the June-July GAN backlog elimination drive, but it is not too late to take part. August will also see the return of The Core Contest- a one month long competition first run in 2007. While the WikiCup awards points for audited content on any subject, The Core Contest about is raw article improvement, focussing heavily on the most important articles on Wikipedia. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
